[Q] Nexus S 4G [SPH-D720] flash to MetroPCS - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, you guys! I've been stalking these forums for a long time and now I have a problem where I will need your help. Now, before I get slammed for it, I've searched these and other forums for what I need, I've Googled for hours and hours on end, I've emailed people, and I still can't find a fix to my problem. OK, enough complaining, here is my problem: I bought a Nexus S 4G a few months ago for only $120. I planned on getting it flashed to MetroPCS through their MetroFlash program. I went to their corporate store, and they said they couldn't flash my phone for legal reasons, but they directed me to a man who could flash my phone. I go to him, and he wants $150 to flash it, I say hell no and decide to do it myself. I'm regretting my decision now because ( A.) CDMA Workshop is hard as hell to learn ( B.) There is almost no support out there for this phone.
Anyways, I want to know, has anyone been successful in flashing their NS4G to MetroPCS at home? If you have, please enlighten me! I've been brain-****ting myself to make this work. Right now I'm stuck at the part where I write the ESN. I can read ESN, but when I try to write it, it says "Failed.. ESN has not been changed." I can read/write everything else, except for ESN. I have unlocked it through the SPC and the Internal Security Password. Another issue I'm having is that when I try to read the memory, it gives me an error message saying, "Process is stopped. Phone does not answer" "Process is stopped at: 0000:1000"
This process is too hard, and I call on the great minds of XDA to help me out! Please, all and any information will help! I will love you forever! Thank you in advance!
Edit: I'm using CDMA Workshop 3.8 Trial Version by the way!
Edit: I forgot to mention, everything in this thread is hypothetical and for educational purposes only.

For legal reasons xda forbids on esn hacks. I don't know where you would get help on this but post it if you find something.

Did you search youtube?

Why do you need to change the ESN? That's illegal anyway.
You can follow the Cricket instructions over at howardforums.

Yes I did, and I messaged several youtubers, but sadly no one wants to help me without charging me, which sort of defeats the purpose of doing it myself.

I need it to transfer the ESN from my MetroPCS dumbphone to my Sprint Nexus S 4G. I'm trying to get the NS4G to work on Metro. Also, can you please link me to or help me find those instructions? The search function over there is weak and I can't find anyone who has information on flashing a NS4G. Thank you so much for guiding me in the right direction though!

I think the point is that the process is universal, no matter what phone you have

I agree, the basic process is universal but right now I can't find help for my issue, and even in forums for phones other than the NS4G, I can't find anyone experiencing the same problem. I could use any and all the information I can get right now, because the NS4G doesn't have any readily available simple tutorials for it to be flashed to MetroPCS. There are tutorials for Boost, Cricket, and PagePlus, and I have tried following those, but run into problems with those as well. I'm at a dead end and need help

You don't suppose to change your ESN. You call your carrier and Activate the ESN on your carrier, all you really need to do is load Metro PCS prl.

My friend has an EVO flashed to MetroPCS. I thought it was neat. There is also a thread where someone went to craigslist to find a person to flash an Epic 4g. You may find something there. Keep us updated, please. And if you figure it out for yourself, more power to ya

i'm looking to do the same thing but not to MetroPCS... i have another carrier i would like to flash to but it's a new carrier and there's NO INFO online for flashing to them... and they're online so i can't go to their store to flash this... what info would i need to get this ball rolling??

Just pay to have it done by someone who knows what they're doing. I got my NS4G flashed for $40 including 1st month of service.

Not to bring up an old thread, but I can't get CDMA Workshop to read my donor phone's MSL :/ Any Suggestions?

Sorry for really late reply, but if you're still having this problem, have you sent the SPC unlock code through CDMA Workshop yet?

Lol I had a forum member help me out with this almost step by step to the point where he helped me get everything working except data,, but I had to eventually go to a guy from Craigslist to get data working. I wish I could give him credit but he wants to remain anonymous. You know who you are! Anyways, I feel terrible for not keeping you guys updated I'd like to make it up to you guys by helping you guys flash your phones or anything related to phone flashing:thumbup:

First off, the guys are right you have a read comprehension issue.
Next, considering this you probably shouldn't be on XDA or MoDacO.
Lastly, let me point you in the right direction... I hope..

Finally, when you fix your phone after reading the forum post go ahead and send me $100 for helping you out... lawl.

Typical XDA assholes at your service. People wonder why some don't like XDA. Hopefully the thread linked to gets you back on track.
Thanks to my fellow xda-ers who speak out against this bad behavior. Why do you guys feel the need to be mean? It's not funny and it makes you look the fool to attack people just to be a jerk. Please refrain. This is the best forum around except for the haters.

Dude, if you still need help... keep asking. Someone here will help you.
In my view, they failed in doing what they purposed to do.. to show this guy as being stupid. All they accomplished was revealing their own immiturity. Oh, look! I didn't spell immaturity correctly.. Oh please, by all means.. show me how awesome you are by pointing out how stupid I am.. Idiots..........
No matter where we go.. We'll always be confronted with the egotistical morons of society...
Thanks I admit I should have read more into it.I was pointed in a general direction to get the CM7 rom off my phone but never told how,was just told it was simple.Sucks because now im stuck with the o2x firmware on the g2x,It works but i have no signal and all this LG bloatware
I rooted Thursday. This is the third root I've done myself. I paid to do the Evo, it was too complicated.
I'm really funny when I do it. I'm soooo scared. I'll read every single post 10 times...literally. Talk myself in and out of it....read a few more times. The reason I'm scared is if something goes wrong, I'll be lost...I'll have to read the suggestions ad nauseum again, be terrified to try anything (LOL) and it'll take a month to figure out.....cause thats how I roll.
But rooting the G2X was pretty easy. Once you've been rooted, you kind of always have to be.
I hope someone can help you. I'm sure I've read that screw ups are fixable. That its hard to brick this phone doing root. Don't quote me on that one though.
But for others. It really is pretty easy doing the root. Just read read read....if I can do it, you can. Believe me.
this is what i did to my phone sadly
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1007825
i'm assuming you meant you flashed a new rom but can't get back to recovery, in that case search youtube. lets HOPE you still have stock backed up. i'm also assuming you have the optimus 2x rom saved, why?

Should this even be posted here? Also judging by the poor wording your phone has a sim card where as the mes does not. So you are crap out of luck as the mes is a cdma phone to begin with.

HTC Issue, Hope you guys help

So right now were trying to make sure that the future of HTC's phones dont get knocked out because of the encrypted bootloader they are trying to force upon us so im just writing this to you all to make sure that the XDA members know whats going on and I was wondering if you all can help us out, these are the details:
right now i'm sure your aware of what is going on in HTC's facebook page and i wanted to know if you
would read up on what is going on and show that everyone is wanting this to be unlocked.
This first link is the petition that were all signing to show to HTC that we are wanting this:
http://www.groubal.com/htc-bootloade...nd/#signatures
We want more to know about it so i was reaching out to all of you right now.
this second link is the conversation that a member who started this had with a sprint rep on facebook, it shows that sprint is not the one responsible for the locked bootloader and that they are not trying to push for it.
https://www.facebook.com/sprint/posts/156658601067283
This last link is just what xda is thinking of it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1094914
we know that they made a statement but we want to make sure that they know that we all want this to be unlocked
So pass this along and let everyone know what is happening! thanks for your help!
The links are dead. I think this is a bogus post. Admins, please review and close this thread if it is.

No surprise with future HTC phones getting locked and/or encrypted BLs. Pressure from carriers are finally getting to HTC.
Someone from XDA will crack 'em.

Seems like sprint isn't pushing this on them though, based on what i've seen with this info it seems its HTC's part here that they want to protect their Sense UI most likely. but you can help and try to change the future because that's not something i want and i'm sure no one in xda wants this either

It appears that you cut the links from another post wherein the tag get's abbreviated (the ellipsis in the middle) but the actual href is valid. You should always right click the link and "copy address" (or however it appears in your browser) instead of selecting the text directly.

Sim unlock count tries

Ok there are a lot of intelligent people, developers and what not on this forum and I am very sure someone has to know... is it possible to reset the unlock code tries on our android devices? We are able to do so much do I really hope it is possible (im asking this for my Motorola Backflip). I have no intention of rooting or unlocking my infuse right now.

Dont mean to be mean on you but.... why did you post something for your motorola backflip here
You come asking for intelligent people and good devs... if you ask on the Infuse forum.... probably they know about the Infuse right...
Still you probably are spreading the question on various forums to see if you get help on any? idk :S
And far as i know if you exceed the limit of tries it will "freeze" the phone and you gotta go get it unfrezed or get the freeze code to unfreze it lol and im not sure ALL phones have a limit in trys.... anyways... they are almost always about 10 tries... why would yo use them all?? are you GUESSING the unlock code??
Pay 20 dlls to have a database searcher business get you the code...
here try this one:
http://www.gsm-unlock.com/
or this one:
http://www.gsmliberty.net/shop/
or hey why not:
http://www.gsmunlock.com/
But dont guess the code... its 99.99% you will use those 10 tries if you guess it... and also only samsung hides its network codes withing each phone as far as i know... so call motorola... call att call tmobile or whoever carrier you got on the moto backflip and ask for the code they should be able to guide you man.
Hope its something.

It should be the simple matter of acquiring an NTelos Sim card then inputting the correct APN settings.
