Update coming at midnight - G Tablet General

Hey guys, I just got off the phone with Viewsonic Technical support which I called in reference to any G-Tab updates and according to the rep I spoke with there will be a minor update rolling out at midnight fixing some bugs and such.
I also inquired on any major android updates and he said that there had been a meeting recently and he believes that yes there will be an update to a newer version of android but he did not have a time frame on that.

Any idea if it's midnight ET?
My device is still sitting on 2967 (as it has since last week) and I'll be checking, thanks! I'm not holding my breath, though - he might have been talking about 3588 - did you talk to Joe? He told me it was going to be 3588 in the OTA updater tonight / tomorrow.

I'm honestly not sure what his name was, and im assuming he meant ET as I'm in Pennsylvania haha. He said it was just a minor update bringing around bug fixes and such but that a major android update was coming but he had no ETA on that one. So, let's see what actually happens

You know roebeet i talked to the same person.. I asked him what the version of update it was and he was like i am not sure. They have no clue what they are doing there. I also asked him if i can speak to the team that is in charge of developing the honeycomb and he is like i am not sure who it is. I told him if the update is going to be 3588 or newer and he was like its possibly 3588.

Thanks - Joe had an accent (Russian, I think). My guess is that he was talking about 3588, as I bet most of their calls have been Woot and TD users using old firmware. But it would be nice if they actually had something new.

Great...just got my tab all setup the way I like and it's stable. Gawd gotta get ready for another wipe...jks. hope this works for everyone as I will be getting it as soon as it's available.

Well when I called today 4:30 CST on "updates", they have to call me back. 7:30 now and not a word. If anything, the "update" will be 3588 is my bet.

Yep that was the guy... LOL.. Roebeet i had a question for you.. Is there anyway to enable the Over air update on the TNTlite 4.40. Not sure how i do that but this will let me know if the update servers are back on line if there is a new update released.
well the other option is that i can always check back here and i am sure all the devs are waiting for a new release anyways..

I will post something if it's newer than 3588. I've had my device sitting and waiting for the OTA updater for like six days, now. Even if the OTA updater was eanbled on TNT Lite, I'm pretty sure that it wouldn't work because of the build.prop changes I make.
Mods are a different story, however. I wasn't expecting anything new so if they pull a rabbit out of their hat this week, I really don't know what I'll do. My GTAB mods at XDA are frozen, as of this afternoon - I'm not going to alter that decision. Sorry about that.

Still no update...old or new! Got my TD gTab yesterday they seem to be the same stock as the woot ones with 3389 on them. Nice to know that VS is so committed to our user experience. I'm really enjoying 3389! lol
I'm hanging at stock for a week or so to see if any screen/charger/hardware issues pop up.

Viewsonic still doesn't have their act together. No update available as of 9:30am EST and I am running an older firmware from the Woot deals

Same - I'm purposely went to 2967 stock and I have been waiting (im)patiently for them to fix this for many days, now.
Actually, I will be calling at ~12:30PM ET -- I have a work conference call just prior to that, but I will fill this in. I'd like to hear the latest excuse that they will give me.

Usually when a company is BS'ing its customers with a phony deadline, they'll put it more than 24 hours into future. This new Viewsonic CS company must be amateurs.

They seemed to be doing something with the server this morning as the collecting information dialogue ran for 40 or 50 seconds before saying I was up to date at 3389. Normally it only runs for 2 to 3 seconds when the server is down.

Called CS - "they are still working on it", no ETA. I will set aside 10 minutes a day to call them until this is fixed. Suggest that everyone try to call them so they know that this is important.
I know that users on mods don't need it, but there are stock users here and for them it's important. Especially the TD ones stock on build 2967 or older.

I called as well and spoke to Joe again.. Let me tell you they are complete retards. I don't think they know what they are doing. I called about the update server and he is like it should be up by today or tomorrow and then he said it should be up any minute.
Then i asked him about my power adapter buzzing lightly. Not sure if anyone else is experiancing this. I told him can we do a swipe. Like they send me one first so i am not without a charger and he would not respond correctly. I asked him if i can speak to someone higher than him and he would not transfer. Not sure what is going on.
But is anyone else getting a slight buzzing when you plug your wall charger in to the wall and when the green light on the adapter lights up. You have to go close to the charger to hear it.
Let me know.

Yep that it.. When the room is completely quiet you can hear it well but when you are busy and not thinking about it you would have to take your ear to it and you will hear this high pitch buzzing but it still charges. it could be a little transformer in the unit that is making that buzzing noise.. But atleast i am not the only one.. Thanks GOD

gps fix by end of sept and froyo in few days to months

Just got off the phone with samsung. Tech support said gps fix for sure by end of sept. And froyo as soon as a few days to no more than few months. Also the update will come straight from them no att involved. Sept. 21
Fro-noes!!
Froyo update. As soon as a few days to no later then a few months. Thats like me saying, Yeah........Ill get back to you Mr. President. Within a few days, but no later then 4 years when your run is over with. Garenteed!
Every time someone calls Samsung or walks into an AT&T store and asks about fixes and updates, we get a slightly different answer. A dozen calls will yield a dozen different answers. The reality is that none of the people you can get to through the normal channels will know diddly squat about the actual release schedules. If we're lucky, the better than average rep/support tech will hear something about it a few days before it happens at best.
To get the real schedule, we need inside information. We need a Deep Throat! Someone on the test team at AT&T and someone on the dev/QA team at Samsung.

What if the dev/QA team at Samsung/ATT doesn't even have a schedule yet? This may sounds crazy but it is possible.
Remember that Galaxy S UK announced their Froyo update schedule 3 months ago. US division, on the other hand, still hasn't announced anything. Is it reasonable to assume the wait for Froyo update will be at least another 3 months?

I have been checking the Samsung site nearly daily for a week or so because their tech support also told me it would be available on their support site. However the last few days my bookmarked page is 404 and drilling down through the web site comes up dry also on downloadable Captivates stuff.

In all likelihood, it is part of their deal with AT&T to supply certain updates within certain time frames -- standard practice. It will also need to be factored into Sammy's development schedule as it sounds like their devs are going to be quite busy with different Galaxy S updates. There's probably only a couple dozen people who actually know first-hand what those dates are.
Few months...sounds like next year to me. Hopefully not, I really want Froyo on it.
whats the huge advantage of having 2.2? really whats so big about it

OMG I'm currently downloading something from the update menu in the phone.
Update: OMG It just finished the download and is 50% through the update.
Update: OMG it went to 100% and said "update is failed." Is this because I'm rooted?
Update: Unrooted to try again and it don't let me re-update. The "check once/24hrs" deal is bull**** yO` Screw you ATT

Call up CS and ask for an offline firmware update, please

The more of us who call them, the better. I just got off the phone and made my voice heard. (866) 501-6405 and they are open today (Saturday).
Issues with an OTA update, imo:
- You can't get an OTA update if your device is doing a FC in the acore process (and this has happened to me, as it has with others here)
- You can't get an OTA update if your WiFi is borked. Again, a common issue.
- It needs to be released TODAY, not on Monday. People are starting to shop this weekend for pre-BF sales!
They need to supply a downloadable update.zip with instructions on how to use -- we know this is possible as we already have them, although I haven't figured out how to wipe data yet. I suspect there's a way, we just need to figure out the syntax.
CS is great but unfortunately they have no control over this. But, as device owners, we can make our voices heard and if enough of us call maybe their management will reconsider this BAD decision that they are making. I even offered to deploy a recovery image for them, if they could supply me the UAT firmware and the syntax to wipe /data.
I want them to succeed. We all want them to succeed. I hope they reconsider this course of action.
Here's the problem, they don't care about how many people call and beg for an update. Its all a marketing ploy.

I think it might make an impact if enough people call. It depends on the company, of course - but I work in a field where priorities are set by the number of user tickets. The more tickets, the more weight on the priority. It's possible that VS is the same.
Their OTA decision is a terrible one and they are shooting themselves in the foot. I basically told them that they can expect a massive amount of returns because the OF is so bad and unfixable without a manual firmware update which they have yet to offer.
Those problems are more than likely what is fueling their decision to not release an update just yet. They may not have enough people complaining. I completely agree with you and if I had one I'd call myself. The thing is, like you said, it' up to the company. Hope things work out.

Too bad we don't have access to an email address or webform. I think more people would be incined to submit something that way as opposed to calling for fear of being stuck on hold or something. I've made my share of calls to them though. +1 on their success!
I call them and was told the same thing. The official update will be out on 11-22. I ask them about the market and was told it will be the PocketGear market and that they will have the same apps as the android market. I doubt that because I did a few searches and could not find some apps. I guess we'll see.

Pocketgear is a fraction of the real market, but they are probably clueless about this and were sincere in telling you that.
I see no reason why they can not release it now. Seems an arbitrary point now and less runway to help. Their CS have been using XDA as an info resource. Why stop now?
I offered to do UAT, but so far they have not taken me up on the offer.
(UAT = user acceptance testing. It's the point in the production release process where you roll it out to a small number of people to confirm that it's functioning as expected and then it's signed off to release to production).

I spoke with a very nice and attentive CS person. I stated they will need to provide a link to the rom package, so people can download with their computer if need be. I hope they appreciate how big this is. Even phone carriers provide rom links for connectivity reasons.
One biggy I got was Flash is NOT in this update, so we are best to avoid the update and wait until a version is modded and confirmed to work with both Flash and the proper market. Pocketgear is weak. Fixes include mapping corrections and wifi.

The manufacturers of the ZT-180 were in direct contact with at least one XDA-Forum moder. Because of that, subsequent firmware releases were vast improvements over the poor initial release.
ViewSonic could learn from this, and I hope they do.

Man, I was going to call them today. But I got called in to work on a watermain break. After that I watched my Wisconsin Badgers beat up on Michigan. I'll try to call Monday.
With the money I made working the main break, I could buy another tablet!

I just saw this message now. Its late Sat Night so I can't get through now I am not sure if they r open tom but I will try and call. If I can't get through I will call first thing Monday.
After doing a soft reboot my system seems very glitchy now none of the video on flash runs smooth where this am it was flawless. Even small low res stuff stutters and my system seems to catch and get stuck constantly.
I will give them a little time to work the bugs out but if I don't see reasonable attemps at software improvements next week I will return it and probably just settle for an Ipad.

You'll have to wait until Monday.
In all fairness, while the ergonomics of this device leaves something to be desired, this will be their second update in less than a month. While I disagree with some of their choices to date, I'm trying to be optimistic that this is a good sign of things to come.

New update next week? A little rant also

I had random shutdowns and went through all the troubleahooting over the phone and when I went to turn it at their warranty center per the phone support, the tech at the warranty center did a master reset and said the randon shutdowns are a software glitch with an app i downloaded. (it was looping the boot sequence over and over untill i pulled the battery on stock jh7.) I also mentioned my gps hasent worked since day one (august) and he said an update is coming this week to fix that i said that the last update was supposed to be the fix he says this is the fix. So maybe this week? By the way he said i have a 1 year warranty and if its not right they will replace it. At what point are they going to be replacing our phones?
Sorry but had rant a little its getting a little annoying now
We hear updates are coming almost every week. I will be glad to see it when it comes but I will not get my hopes up. I will believe it when I see it or in this case download it.
Agreed, they will tell you what you want to hear to get you out of their face. It's customer service 101 (I was a golf pro for 16 years so I know).
Bottom line is if you are unhappy with the phone he told you your have a year to replace. If you are insinuating they are going to replace all our phones because of the GPS fault, you got another thing coming. Right now they are more concerned with selling new phones for the holidays. When that rush is over then maybe they worry about making anything right.
My two cents.
has samsung all together abandoned this phone in favor of the newer nexus s? I sure do hope not.
we are waiting on the carriers to release the Froyo update... they have had them for awhile now... more than likely expect the release in Q1 of 2011
i doubt we will get an update
seriously, i'll be a miracle if samsung does end up fixing these issues. they have been present since day one.
Samsung has released Froyo to the carriers for the entire SGS line. We are waiting on AT&T, not Samsung.
As far as the GPS goes, the Rogers Wireless Captivate has a GPS that is flawless by all reports. Samsung claims they released a fix for the GPS. Based on these two pieces of information, I think we are at AT&T's mercy on this too...

I think I'll hang out til about a week after 1/1 for an "official" 2.2..then I'll spend some time reading up on these forums on what/how to flash 2.2 and see what happens. I'm not a tinkerer, and IMO the stock Captivate is great-GPS works fine, I don't have any major needs for anything more, but it is tempting
We don't really know if AT&T has the final build or not. But the Samsung Twitter account still says 2.2 by the end of the year

Yeah, the holidays will have them hoppin' to sell and that means customer service can easily go by the way side.
BTW, since it costs the gov't 1.67¢ to produce a penny..your two cents worth is actually 3.34¢ worth.

Out of curiosity what app did you download that was causing random shutdowns. I'm having random shutdowns now, when my battery is around 45-46%. But I noticed that it doesn't happen when data connections are turned off.

Nothing in particular; facebook, memento pro, xda, astro, slacker radio.... Ect ect. I have been running stock for a while now and i have no idea why it started. I just noticed my pocket kept "launching rockets" repetedly and found my gone looping a boot. Thats the main reason i was going to return it. But alas it hasent had any reboot problems since. LG sending out software update to fix g2x

LG is sending out a maintance upgrade for the g2x to correct all the software glitches that have been causing rebooting etc. this update will hit middle of may..SO, everyone hold tight, LG G2x will reign supreme, no need to replace
Do you have an official link, post, pic, or proof? I prefer to build my hopes on company made promises.
Is this based off the stock 2.2 rom?
Why not just fix the 2.3 leak and release that
i went to tmobile store today amd multiple store managers at different stores comfirmed that LG contacted them and said a maintnance update is coming out within a couple weeks, to fix all the devices.....I believe this to be true based on probability 3 different managers from 3 different stores told me this, when i was trying to exchange the device.....i got it exchanged and my manufacturing date is 4 /26/11, anyone else have one made that late
LG is retarded. I was calling them because of a headphone compatibility issue and they guy didn't know what the g2x or the p999 was. This was a rep in LG's mobile accessories department. I told him I was embarrassed for him.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I was at a local store just yesterday after work asking about the camera issue, and there was no mention of it. I've made multiple calls to t-mobile customer service line and same deal there.
Any details on the fix, what issues it will resolve etc? My camera basically takes pictures/videos but the screen goes DARK and you can't exactly 'preview' anything. Same deal with any other camera app from the appmarket or barcode scanner apps as well.
Store mentioned other customers have reported the same thing, but no resolution yet...
the weird thing was i had to go to multiple stores because almost everyone was out, but not saying anything to any manager, the one said LG sent them a message that a maintnance update was scheduled for g2x in midmay to fix rebooting, freezing, and all other glitches. So i went to another store, and i said NOTHING about it, and then to my suprise, the manager there said, dont worry we just got notice that a maintnance update is coming out midmay as an ota update to fix g2x. Then i called another store, and the lady manager there said yes i heard that too... at that point, i was so happy, because folks, i didnt say anything, so how did all of them know.......
Weird.... I have absolutely no issues with my g2x, and honestly I am not going to do any upgrades unless it the official gb release. My only gripe is the BS battery drain issue, which I wish people would stop making excuses for.

If they operate like any of the companies I've worked at, the managers probably go to monthly or quarterly regional meetings. I'm excited about the update though. Thanks for the tip for sure. Hopefully our devs can roll this into their ROMs fairly easily. I can't wait to see what future OTA updates can do!
there is a report about an lg o2x update online. i've seen nothing about the g2x so far. hopefully these reps are not mistaken.

I ordered a replacement to see if I can get less screen bleed and I got a 4/28 one with much worst screen bleed that u can see during the day so Im returning the new one and keeping the 4/26 one which rocks!

I've never had less than 60mb of RAM free at any given time. Not sure a RAM hack is needed on this phonee.. Seems to handle its memory wonderfully.

Yeah, I don't understand the RAM concern either. Seems to be a small obsession with this guy; he started another tread whining about how "handicapped " the phone is because it has so "little" RAM. I really think he just doesn't understand how Android allocates memory...
My G2x was fine no reboots or freezing. Then I flashed Eagles Blood and I was getting frustrated with the keyboard lag so I reverted back to stock from my nandroid back up and now I have had one reboot, it has frozen when coming off the charger twice now. Kinda wish I would have never flashed a custom rom.... I am hoping this is legit and everything gets patched and is ready to rock again!

lol, you put too much faith in customer service. people were actually sent replacement g2's for their g2x.
UK Version
Hey everyone, thought I'd register to chime in.
The UK version of this phone was released with its own LG skin so it makes sense that LG would release a patch to correct their own custom made skin (the problems that people seem to be having in the UK are reported to be much much worse then the G2x).
Don't expect the same patch to be released for the G2x because there is no LG skin on it. The patch for the G2x should be an android update.

Weird.... I have absolutely no issues with my g2x, and honestly I am not going to do any upgrades unless it the official gb release. My only gripe is the BS battery drain issue, which I wish people would stop making excuses for.

I had major battery drain issues phone was lasting only 6 hours and I ended up doing a factory reset and now my phone can last all day! I can unplug the phone at 2am wake up at 10am and use the phone , fb, gmail, web browsing, and youtube all day and still have 40% left by midnight.

Even though the G2x is not running LG's interface, I'm pretty sure LG still has a hand in the updates. Just like T-Mobile will also have a hand in the updates.

[Q] TMo's announcement GB update coming "soon"...?

I do not live in the USA and English is not my native tongue. Could someone with good English knowledge explain to me the definition of the term "soon" in Tmo announcement regarding the GB update?!?!?
Thanks everybody!

Soon means whenever they get around to it. Which so far has been sometime in May, "Before Summer", this summer and prior to armageddon.
There really is no way of knowing until you wake up one sunny day and find that you have a notification that you have a software update.
Hope that helps
Replies in this thread should be interesting.
Soon in this case means, whenever t-mo decides it is ready to release.
**** in one hand and wish in another, see what fills up first.
What they said...
If you have a G2x, your best bet would be to root and then flash a rom of your choice. Then wait till TMO does release the new software and it's massaged by our outstanding devs.

Yes I live in Europe and I got a G2X from the USA and I pray to God everyday not to have any issue with the phone before this "soon" update arrives to fix all these bugs people complain about. I rooted it and run it on EB 1.05 for me works perfectly!, up to now at least!
I used to be up in arms about the update, but now that CM7 is basically stable, everyone should just run that. Arcee has done an incredible job with it.

Thanks. Does CM7 have any known issues? Does everything work? I heard that the thing with this update is not the GB itself but LG drivers which should fix the issues. And since I live in Europe I have no way in the world to send my G2X back in the States to get another one if this one freaks out.

The battery drivers are fixed with CM7 and the only thing that doesn't work is A2DP, so if you need that, flash EB.

I'm sure everyone else's reply will be far more helpful than mine. In the US, where we tend to legalize almost everything, soon means, we are working on it, but can neither confirm nor deny an actual release date. Soon means, yes, we have a release date, but will not publicize that date, because if something goes wrong and we miss the date, everyone on XDA will sue us. So, soon means, soon, the near future.
To some, soon means tomorrow, or next week. To others, soon will always mean, not soon enough. To me, I received my phone on June 13th. I still have alot of time before soon becomes worrisome to me. Others received their phones in April. Soon has a different meaning for them.
Suffice it to say, LG had a plan when they released this phone. Most likely that called for a summer release of GB. To me, it very much looks like, they are still on track for that release. Whether that meets others expectations of 'soon', hard to say. You can debate the merit of whether speaking plan truth or being vague are the proper courses of action. I will instead remind everyone of some historical events that illustrate what I am saying.
Years ago, Microsoft promised to release their Operating systems, when they are done. Eventually the big joke became, by how much they will miss their release date. Virtually every program they released, missed the estimated release date. The public outcry, was tell us when, then just release it. Microsoft eventually shifted their style of this, and announced a release date and promised to hit that date. And they did. The public outcry was, how can you release something that is not finished?
Though almost everyone agrees there are things wrong with the G2x, by industry events, its probably no worse than many other releases. There are MANY people that claim no issues other than perhaps battery life. If the truth ever was realized, problematic devices most likely range in the less that 5% range. One needs only visit forums of similar devices to realize that whats going on with this device is going on with other devices. This device is no better or worse than others...except for 1 thing...you own this device.
I suspect LG had a 90 day window for the update plans, which puts it around the mid July range. One of the forum members very nicely predicted July 17th, several weeks ago. Most of this is all industry standard.
Is 90 days soon? Is it soon enough? Or is it totally unacceptable? Soon enough, people will read this post and tell me I don't know s**t. But its too soon to tell about that. Soon I hope to be able to eat Breakfast. But no matter what, we'll soon have our answer. But, will it be soon enough?

Do you think couldn't they have just waited a bit and in stead of Froyo released the phone with GB right away? Is it just the urge to be first dual core on the record at all cost no matter what, or is it normal? Just to say, I am totally satisfied with my G2X and I do not regret getting this phone.

I like you alodar1. I usually agree with most of what you say.
But I call BS on this part of your answer.
There were two different threads that took polls. One ended at about 2 out of 3 bad before IT closed and the 2nd was at around 1 in 2 last I checked. Even accounting for the oft posited fact that most here are power users and that's why they are here complaining, that's a LOT MORE than 5% bad.
I take issue when anyone tries to say that there are not real problems with most of the G2X's.
You may think I'm a whiner or I returned my phones for no good reason (I know better), but there is no changing the fact that I got four bad. Some were way worse than others, but they all had real problems. My last one seems great and my daughter got a great one from the get go. But there are a lot more than 5% of G2Xs that are bad.... a lot more. A lot of other people beside me are on their forth or fifth one. Others like my daughter got good ones from the get go.
I'm a fan. I am not keeping my Sensation. It cannot compare with the G2X. But I believe way more than 5% are bad.

Smart and business needs are usually 2 different things. Could they have waited? Maybe...but LG is a big company...they probably had this release scheduled for several months. Would it have been wise....maybe...but consider testing resources and planning to get to a release, and look at the other phones in their release lineup....you might realize that there was no room for to wait.
Years and Years ago, my wife argued against me getting a computer....wait she kept saying. One day are argued and ran out and bought a 386. She didn't say a word. But the next year, the 486's came out, cheaper than the 386 I bought the year before.....and she said to me...see, I told you.
Thing is, she's right, it was better and was cheaper. But that kind of arguement never fullfills itself...because there is something new everyday.
We take our phones to heart...they are an investment and we want to believe we make the best choices for us. When it looks like maybe we didn't, we spend time justifying why we did something. Thats where expectation gets in the way. We pulled the trigger and got what we got. After the remorse period, it was ours...most people, for 2 yrs..while the contract runs out.
But we can only expect companies to what is right and best...we know that their interests and ours are different. Should they have waited?? Why? They just released the Revolution...and the Thrill is coming out next month. waiting for the G2x would have only delayed those releases.
Remember, the bottom line is not quality and satisfaction, but rather, $$$.

A2DP is Advanced Audio Distribution Profile
A Bluetooth profile (mode) for streaming audio, such as from a music phone to headphones.
Compared to profiles such as Headset and Handsfree, A2DP supports stereo audio, and is one-way instead of two-way.

I think we're on the same page, whether you believe it or not. If we took a poll of how many power users are on XDA it would be a high %. But, LG did not only sell only to XDA members.
We will never know the actual number of G2x's sold. Nor will we ever know the actual number of bad devices. We can only go off of what we see in forums and reports around the Internet. I recognize that many or the reports are 'retweeted' or reposted from single sources, making a problem appear more prevalent than it actually is. If we were talking about Paris Hilton or Lindsey Lohan, the term would be sensationalism.
The bottom line is I would never indicate to you that your problem is trivial. Its your problem and its important to you. Period... But in the same aspect, don't trivialize my point that there are many people without problems. This does not make your issue less important.
I have read virtually every post and poll here in this forum. I beg to differ. From my reading, for every How many people have a problem device poll there is, there is a poll that says, how many people do not have a problem device. Its this type or realization that helped make my choice to buy this device in the face of the reported problems.
My 5% number is an off the wall number. What ever industry standard is for a definition of a problem device, should be used. I simply do not know what that number is. But I bet 5% might be high. I also bet that the G2x did not hit that number. I bet that LG recognized a problem with the release and took steps to fix it. I bet that is why we see Temporarily Out of Stock on the TMO site. I bet they have figured out how to solve the problems and most of the problems are software based....or, they would not have stopped most of the replacements from going out. I bet the G2x is still and will be a defining device in the lines of the Nexus one.
If my statement in any way painted you as a whiner, I apologize. Certainly not my intention. But I do realize that people get tired of others saying they have problem free devices. Just as they get tired of people saying, they are on their 4th replacement. At best it should be a wash. To me...I wonder...why did my device turn up ok...and yours did not? To me that is a mystery. There are good devices out there...why the difference.
I used to work in Mobile Device support. I used to take great joy in working with my friends and their phones. If they have a problem, I'd give them steps to fix it...and just watch them do what they were supposed to do...and 9 out of 10 did not follow the steps I gave them. Does that mean they are wrong? Or my instructions were bad?
On the Dell Venue Pro forum I worked with a guy that had HUGE problems with his device. I had him send me his device when he was in a bricked state. I had his device working in 5 minutes. After a few hard resets, I was satisfied the device was ok. I used his device for 24hrs and did NOT experience a single problem. I sent it back him. Within 24hrs he was complaining. Why?? This was a device I had in my hand and actually used as my own ....and an hour in his hands there were problems???
does that mean he did something differently than I did? Does his body chemistry short out electronic signals? Is he an undercover alien that is incompatible with Dell Mobile devices?
Who knows...but my phone works...many phones work. If the number of bad phones was much higher than what I said, I guarantee the response by LG would be different.
No way is it just 5% bad, it HAS to be more.
My wife and I both have "bad" phones, and if the chance of getting a bad phone is 5% (random distribution), there was 0.25% chance of us both getting bad ones.

Makes you wonder doesn't it. Could they have possibly ignored all the issues? Is their testing standard, not catching the issues? Or of all the devices they tested, did the issues not show up?
First time to this forum I searched for an issue list. I went down the list. After reviewing the list, I bought my device anyway. My theory was, if the reboot issue was so prevalent, why was it not caught. The answer I came up with ...it was a bad lot.
Other issues I looked at:
-Battery Life: all phones today have this issue. Truth is, there are ways to make it better. There are virtually no way to make it great. When I charge my battery I want it to last all month. I'll accept till dinner time.
-Screen bleed: No idea what this issue. If I have to change the normal settings on my phone to find it...its not a problem to me. This is a personal decision.
-Overheating: First...its dual core. Second, every phone I've ever had has overheated. Pull the battery , start again...does it stop? For me...every time.
-Dust under the display: Man, I wear glasses. Life is a blur. I like big, large letters. I don't see dust if I fall down.
-REbooting: Every phone I have ever had has rebooted...at least once. Sometimes it shuts off. If it continues, I replace it. If it still continues, I calmly get the company to exchange the device. The best way to do this, is in person. In person and able to reproduce the problem for them. Faced with proof, they will almost always do what's right.
Even looking at this list, bought the device because I know there is no way that any reliable company misses that stuff. It had to be limited and it had to be contained. If you want to be it was a conspiracy....then no forum post can help you.
