Ok, it's said that we are getting the Pyrimid, We are def getting the G2x and now it seems the LG 3d phone passed the fcc with tmo 3g bands and is the first dual core dual channel phone.. I really would like to get a phone that dual core when they are available but with this att deal it doesnt make sense to buy a new phone. From what I read ATT plans on using the TMO 3g frequencies for it's LTE network which means current tmo 3g phones will no longer work as 3g. Granted this is going to take a while to happen but does it really make sense to get a new device now or even in a few months when there is a possibility it wont fully work in a year? hmmm

I'd look at the HSPA+ bands. I think they are doing to be coming out with ATT and T-Mobile bands included. IF that is the case then jump on board.
Apparently the G2X will have ATT hspa+ bands as well

Lol so when this is all going down (if it does) I might migrate to the G2X..looks like solid hardware to me. I love my mt4g tho. I'm sad to see the big launch phone for their 4G advertising have its life span altered. Granted according to most the fact stands that we have a year before the deal even possibly gets approved and even then we're talking 2013-15 before tmo 1700 mhz is completely shut down.

I was planning to upgrading from MT4G to Pyramid as MT4G for me was never official upgrade as it was quick replacement due to my HD2 being stolen. Now don't confuse upgrade and replacement with plan and insurance BS as I do pay my phone direct and paid $750 for Leo1024 got it 4months before it came out in TMoUS officially and paid $450 for MT4G.
I for one will not support TMobile and pay for HTC Pyramid even when if its has quadband radio and will support on AT&T. If the POS panzy dutch mofo's are selling it I for one will do pure boycott and I do hope they lose so much money that AT&T don't buy TMo as it looks very unattractive. I know I am very angry ATM as I am screwed both ways click here for my #1 reason can you call that double penetration?

With or without contract? Make sure this is what you want as you will soon deal with DeathStar if you don't switch to someone else. I do miss the 4.3" and most device that does have it on GSM are SamSUX based or HTC based on CDMA so I was looking forward to this until the BS merge of at&Tmobile.
Hi,
Unless I'm reading something wrong on the HTC Sensation's specification page, it looks like it does not support HSPA+ or AT&T 3G bands:
Network
HSPA/WCDMA:
* Europe/Asia/T-Mobile US: 900/AWS/2100 MHz
Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE:
* 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
Network bands in regions other than Europe and Asia Pacific may be different, depending on the mobile operator and your location. Please check with your mobile operator.

Yet Engadget calls it the "HTC Sensation 4G" with HSPA+. There is no mention if it would support AT&Ts network as well.
The next phone I get will have to support AT&T's bands as well, as I don't want to replace it at the end of the merger, if it occurs.
Can someone clarify this situation? Are there two sensations?
The Sensation does not support AT&T's network. So far, the only model that's been produced works for T-Mobile in the US, and T-Mobile only.
As for the HSPA situation, I find it hard to believe that the Sensation doesn't have HSPA+, even though their own site simply says HSPA.
Their press release calls it a "4G" device, so I think the spec is a typo.

A phone of equal class from AT&T would be the Atrix 4G. Pretty sure nobody wants to choose between an encrypted bootloader or being stuck on 2G. :/

Well the merger wouldn't complete for at least a year from now, so there's no telling what devices would be offered by then. But yes, AT&T does not have a good track record when it comes to openness; so, I'd prefer something like the G2x to anything AT&T would likely offer. True, I would need to take an AT&T phone eventually if I want to stay up to date, but I'd like to avoid that for as long as possible.
If im not mistaken, the european version isn't 4g, but it will be released to tmobile USA as the sensation 4g. I'm assuming it will be equiped with a hspa+ radio.
its 4g acording to htc
http://www.htc.com/www/product/sensation/specification.html
Network5
HSPA/WCDMA:
Europe/Asia/T-Mobile US: 900/AWS/2100 MHz
Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE:
850/900/1800/1900 MHz
It is equipped with a HSPA+ radio since its capable of 14.4 mbps. HSPA only goes up to 7.2 mbps if I'm not mistaken.
Right you are. what may be causing confusion, is the fact that on htc's spec sheet it never refers to it as hspa+, nor does it call 14.4Mbs 4g. It's listed next to 3g. Guess they dont consider that 4g speed, which would also explain why tmobile USA is rebranding it as sensation 4g.
I asked HTC and they replied that it does not have AT&T 3G bands. However, even if you sign a 2yr contract for the Sensation in summer, there is a lot of time left before AT&T shuts down AWS bands.
When AT&T merged with Alltel it took a while before they shut down Alltel bands and they gave customers comparable smartphones. Chances are, the phones handed out by AT&T will be better then Sensation because the merger won't happen for a while and smartphones age very fast.
The merger is ~18-24 months away. Even phones that will come out in 12 months will be much better than anything that's on the market now.
http://www.att.com/mergers/alltel/index.jsp
There is a Alltel customers thread on Howard forums and their best phone was Desire, the replacements AT&T gave them were not bad. Note that any Android phones that AT&T hands out will have 3rd party apps disabled as well as crippled upload speed unless AT&T changes this which I doubt they will.
HTC is retarded to not support the 850 band on all phones going forward.
They're going to be left in the dust if they don't support AT&T.

Actually they are smart. ATT already said they will replace T-mobile phones with new ones. If they support ATT bands then there is no need to replace them. If they don't ATT has to buy millions of phones from them. So sir good argument but you should understand business better

Why would any company make a great phone to be just thrown away n a short time. I think it's just wasteful, great hardware with no use. That is truely sad this day in age we can make expensive hardware and just toss it aside. Don't like it at all, I love this phone but why even build it without AT&T radio bands? As I said poor planning and very wasteful. Pisses me off that such great hardware gets tossed aside.

Why do you say that? They figure they will sell twice as many phones. Before and after the buy out. I think it is disgusting and wasteful to throw away such a great made piece of hardware. Very sad IMO that any company can just make a piece of hardware for basicly just a 6 month deal, maybe a little longer. This is the phone that the hard core T-Mobile customer has been waiting for. Now the damn thing is just about to launch and it is only good for a few lousy months. Freaken disgusting and pathetic. Why even bother, that is why anyone with any sense of responsibility would add AT&T bands to this hardware, doesn't even make sense to me. It is just so wasteful to me.
The buyout will take at least 12-18 months to complete. When it comes to large corporate mergers, there is a lot of regulatory red tape to be navigated. After the buyout is complete (if it's even approved to begin with), it will take at least a couple of more years for AT&T to repurpose T-Mobile's frequencies.
Relax, guys. We'll be able to use the Sensation for at least 2-3 years. Speaking of which, does anyone even keep phones for that long nowadays?
Here we are constantly being ripped off with old-gen single core processors, bloat, and slow updates while our friends in the UK have the Galaxy S II.
Try this experiment I witnessed earlier... Go to the official samsung website and browse, you will find re-batched galaxy s devices with a factory over clock, a different radio, and outdated os versions... All advertised as the best; meanwhile scroll to the bottom and change the country to the UK to be introduced with the Galaxy S 2 ad, with the option of various carriers and available to buy.
It might be a repetition of last year where we get our carrier-branded devices 6 months later, with bloat, slow updates, and stupid contacts.
I haven't an idea on how to import one of those beauties from Europe.. but I know for sure it won't come cheap with the euro to usd conversion rate, and the whole process of importing.

Must be really new to this as this has been the way it is done for as long as i can remember. You can get one from EU but it will cost alot and it is not Gonna work on ATT 3G unless you get it from Telstra which uses the same 3G bands as ATT. If you want to stay up to date then I would get an unlocked version from over seas.
Nothing new. All carriers there are GSM so the market is bigger with much more handset variety.

Quad band is not nessesarily universal. There are atleast 5bands that can be used but i believe that all the sgs2s have the att bands all around. The baddest AT&T Android device from a U.S. carrier is the Atrix and we have it here. So we're on par with what they have down there and our network speeds are faster mostly because it's not over saturated as theirs.

So in other words, no information whatsoever. Lazy HTC listed quad band GSM but forgot to include the 3G bands in the specs.
We can probably assume it's UMTS 850/1900, possibly also 2100 for roaming. No AWS. The only Big 3 devices to include AWS have been the pentaband Nokias.

Yeah Bell Mobility uses the same WCDMA bands as AT&T, you just need to carrier unlock it if the one you buy isn't already unlocked. Other than that you'll need to put in some APN settings but it's all a pretty easy process.
Just make sure you get the 850/1900 model (Bell, some others) and not the 700/2100 model (T-Mobile)

If you buy the T-Mobile version, correct, no WCDMA data will work. That's why it's silly to buy the wrong model. Canadian carriers use the WCDMA bands that AT&T uses. Even better, the Bell HTC Sensation doesn't even have a carrier logo slapped on it like the T-Mobile version does.
