I just spoke with Verizon customer service and they have no idea when or IF our Touch Pro 2 will get the Windows 6.5 ROM update.
They tell me this just as they released the same phone minus the external keyboard (Imagio) with Windows 6.5 already installed!
Guess we need to keep waiting.........
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
UPDATE: I sent HTC an email asking about the update and this is their response:
Thank you for contacting HTC about updating the Verizon Pro2 to Windows Mobile 6.5.
I understand wanting to keep the device up-to-date. Regretfully, HTC does not currently have a software update for your device. The carriers request all software updates for the devices that they offer from HTC. Once the carrier contacts HTC about updating the software or changes to the devices, HTC’s Research & Development Team work with same department from the carrier to create the software. When and update is created it is tested by the carrier and then HTC host the software on our web site for download by customers free of charge or at http://www.pcdphones.com/uts_downloads.aspx. The updates are individually adaptered for each device and carrier.
You can also visit www.hctwiki.com for self-help and to participate in a survey.
Thank you,
Kay

I wish their response was that Verizon was currently testing the new ROM. Instead, it seems that HTC has not even received the request from Verizon to get a new ROM ready....... Now I wonder if I should have gotten the Imagio instead.......
i think we are definately going to see the hspl before we see any stock 6.5 roms. and once we get the hspl then its all custom after that anyway. it woulda been fun to play with 6.5 while waiting for the hspl, but oh well
someone from ppcgeeks posted a reply from HTC Support saying they are just about to startdeveloping the new 6.5 Rom updates...so its gonna be awhile if that is true
I was talking to the Verizon guys yesterday and the one I was talking to said there were rumors of the end of this month, but it depends on something with Microsoft. I'm not so sure he understood what I was talking about though, so take it with a grain of salt hah.

yea verizon just told me the same thing this morning from vz customer service and tech support both said they see nothing in the system and know nothing about a 6.5 rom upgrade its a shame these carriers just dont want to put any effort into the phones

Agreed. I dont know what it is like at every carrier...but this phone (HTC TP2) is getting rav reviews and selling out here in the states.. I don't get the lack of motivation...

Here's the cynic in me:
A: They've already sold the phone, and they're selling like hotcakes so why change it... then again why put the effort in if they weren't selling? haha
B: Funny thing about them selling out, the local "Premium VZW dealer" (Not actually verizon) doesn't stock HTC phones and only stocks blackberries as they are easier to use... which is funny because they've lost selling at least three premium phones in the last couple weeks amongst my friends.
I am getting tired of winmo bashing.
I actually talked to their tech support a few days ago and he said that it was in the cards, but there wasn't an official date yet. Perhaps they're modifying the ROM for their services *shrugs*
Nah eff that, if verizon does some stupid modifying for there server, i really hope we get a hard-spl soon. I never really cared if we did itd be nice ofcourse. But thats why verizon phones suck so much is there damn way they do there stuff.
I would imagine that they would want to push out 6.5 to the few thousand people who have 6.1 Touch Pro 2's. I'm sure they don't want to have to support both 6.5 and 6.1 on tech support as it would increase costs. Hopefully, the hold up is related to tweaks HTC and Verizon are making to fix the annoying little things. Maybe we'll see the update when the TP2's get back in stock as they probably want all of them to be the same.
I just talked with a couple of verizon business reps and its rumored internally with the company that the 6.5 rom will be released the end of OCT. Microsofts website states OCT/NOV.

It seems to me a little weird that they all of a sudden where out of stock a few days before 6.5 and the new Imagio phone. I think like on the Storm they have just taken them out of circulation and when they return the new ones will have 6.5 and we will have a new ROM. This happened twice with the Storm when it got updates to the Blackberry OS. It was out of stock for 3 weeks when the current update was rolled out then all of a sudden it was in stock again and the update was on their site. I'm kinda wandering if when we get 6.5 we are also gonna see the phone having VCast TV like the Imagio. Its probably hardware capable. Of course its been out for three years now and its still only in the same 20 markets with a promise of more to come that entire time.
why
I don't think they're going to release 6.5 for the TP2 ever. Why bother? They can't even manage their own website half the time. Obviously they don't have the resources to upgrade stuff for 'free'.
Plus, even if they did, I wouldn't bother, assuming XDA cracks this bastard.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't it be HTC to release the update anyway??
Got 2 ROM ups for my Titan before, so..........

My previous Verizon phone was an XV6800 (Titan) and they came out not with one, but with TWO ROM upgrades during the time I had it, so I have hope that we will get the upgrade soon. Check this website, they have Vendors ROMS for many phones. Hopefully we will see the TP2 listed soon!

There will be a 6.5 rom update available for our phones. It's just a matter of when. Some say it could be another month or two.

Almost forgot to mention this as well, I had a titan myself, a very useful but unfortunately very underpowered phone. Anyway, in case anyone missed this, here's the estimated time for the 6.5 ROM updates for the TP2's

You stated exactly what I was going to say to him. With the XV6800 sure it was locked out of several things (e.g. GPS) and what not but all ROM updates were FREE to download from the site. Also as most have seen they have released the 6.5 ROM over in Europe, so it is only a matter of time before Verizon releases the ROM. Oh and for those that don't know it is Verizon who choose the date at which to release the ROM, HTC and Microsoft only provide the software.
Anywho...my TP2 rocks and I can't wait for the ROM to be released, 6.5 is an excellent upgrade from 6.1 as far as finger friendly, and touch screen go.
hi all,
i am about to get a new phone. this is one i am interested in. my question is do you think it is worth it or should i go for the tilit 2? if i buy the fuze, i do not have to extend my contract. although i would with the tilt2. according the device database, the internals are identical, the tilt however does come with 6.5. although i know i can get that here also. just thought i could get some input from all you other lucky fuze owners out there. thanks, i appreciate it.

I just got mine and haven't stopped modding it since, lol
First I'd have to say is play with both devices first before you make your final decision, it helps to know what you're getting with both. Next is, you can get 6.5 on both as another person has said, thought it doesn't have the official feeling, it works for the most part (think each 6.5 rom comes with its share of bugs and what not). Regarding the issue of the contract, I don't see what's so bad about extending your contract if you're going to get a device that you will be content with for a while ( the 2 year being locked in doesn't seem that much of a fuss to me since you'd most likely be with them till it's time to renew again). The only down side I see with contracts is the subsidy on phones that comes with it when you renew. If you play with both devices, are leaning towards the Tilt 2, and don't have any future plans for a new phone, then I'd say go with the Tilt 2, the bigger screen and official 6.5 I think would be worth it. But if you think AT&T might get some killer phones within 2 years (which looks like to be the booming thing right now seeing all these Andoird, WinMo, smartphones exploding on every carrier), I'd say get the Fuze, and wait till you get that phone you really like later on.
when will there be a HTC Arrive section added?

hi
hello...........
a post to say Thanks for the section =)
My upgrade is up May 1st, and this phone looks interesting.
Fair warning to those folks who are going to ditch their Android devices...there will be some things you will miss from Android. My suggestion would be to play with the phone in the stores prior to ordering it.
I got mine from UPS yesterday. I'm having data speed problems though.
Im new to WP7, but have been a long time WM user for over a decade. I have just ordered through wirefly the htc arrive, and will be learning the OS, as well as hacks. I currently am a huge homebrew Webos user, currently have a hacked Sprint Palm Pre Plus (hacked from VZ version) running Webos 2.1. If you havent used Webos you are missing a very very great OS. I myself love WM, microsoft and have used WP7 before through my job but not extensivly. I also would like info on the unlock Chevron method, and if the current version will work on the HTC Arrive since it has the update NODO preinstalled on it.

Anyword on the unlocked and the arrive yet?
FYI for all the Sprint HTC Arrive users, if you need a little more battery life I have confermed that the battery in the EVO does fit and work in the HTC Arrive. I also have a seller on ebay that is selling a 1800mhz battery (stock is 1500) with no need for a battery cover change, with a charging dock for $20. Heres the Link:

I really love the DVP form factor and I am getting tired of my Samsung Vibrant. Should I wait for a Mango device before getting the DVP? When will we get to see some of the new Mango devices? Will they have front facing cameras? I heard about a windows phone 7 device similiar to the galaxy sII coming soon, is there any truth to that? Thanks for the help.
No by the looks of the new phones that were leaked. I don't think that they will have no front facing cameras. I think WP7 is more focused on there OS than building a phone that is mainly focused on Skype. They might have bought them out but the OS is the most important to them right now. They have to catch up because they started so late. I would say go ahead and get u a WP7 device because all users will be able to get mango. As far as mango goes, they will be updating that constantly because they want the new version to succeed and they will follow up of whatever version they have next. Personally I think that they will keep all of the users updated to the latest versions of the OS. Windows phone will prevail. Rock on Microsoft!!!!!!!!!

We won't know the 1/2 of whats going to be released phone wise with Mango until we get a lot closer. I would almost guarantee at least one flagship from one of the OEM's will have a FFC. And they will probably (at least a good handful of them) be quite a bit more powerful than the initial release phones, so something like the Galaxy SII from Samsung is not out of the question. Mango is going to make this a pretty feature rich phone, and this is when they will really start pushing things (kind of like Android with the OG Droid).
I'd just hang on the the vibrant until then, or buy a used DVP and sell the vibrant till then.
Buy the DVP now...
Yeah I am thinking of buying the DVP on contract (I bought my vibrant off contract, and the DVP 8GB is only 80 bucks now ) and just selling it on ebay when the mango devices start coming. Hopefully dell will update the Venue Pro later and add a front facing camera and other cool stuff.
Do yourself a HUGE favour, read the dvp forum before buying this lemon: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=&f=799. Discussions are now about how we can get dell to take ownership of the issues they seem to want to sweep under the carpet, multiple returns of devices only to get the same faults with replacement ones. You are far, far better off staying with what you have or going with another WP7 device. Really.
If its only 80$ and off contract, I'd hit it !

If any more convincing is needed, read Dell's forums and see how they are ignoring the problems. You may be lucky but if you are not do not expect any support in any form from Dell. Also consider they were not among the OEM's listed at the Mango event, there hasnt been official word on whether Dell is definitely going to support Mango. JUST DONT DO IT!!! http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/mobile-devices/f/3824.aspx
What's the attraction to the DVP? the portrait keyboard only?

A friendly advise: Stay away from the Venue Pro. It has serious stability issues and routinely crashes. New Mango devices will likely launch in the month of October/November time-frame. Almost nothing is known about the new devices so we have no if there's front facing camera.
I am sure there'll be a Windows Phone from Samsung that has similar specification to the Samsung Galaxy S II.
I have an HD2 that I've used Mango on, and I do have to say that I enjoy it. But I always seem to find posts cropping up that the DVP is old, and that is just isn't that good anymore, and that you shouldn't spend the money on it unlocked or on contract. I realize that the hardware in the DVP is dated, and would be a "sidegrade" from my HD2, but the main appeal I have for it is that I want to get off the 80 dollar contracted plan on T-Mobile, and use their 60 dollar unlimited talk, text, and data plan on an unsubsidized phone.
The T-Mobile DVP can be found for 240$ bucks new right now...so I mean, what's really the big deal? I think that's a fair price considering the storage you get(8GB) and the premium build of the handset. Is the battery life decent with Mango now?
More reasons that I just happen to be attracted to the DVP include that it has a reasonably large screen with a keyboard. Most unlocked handsets are typically 3.7, 3.8, which don't get me wrong I'm sure there is a great market for those sizes, but I just find that anything less than 4.0 is too small. And the unlocked Titans are overly expensive in my personal opinion. Considering the Lumia will be AT&T exclusive...well that's just another problem. AT&T charges more and you get less than with a carrier such as T-Mobile.
What are your guys' thoughts and opinions?
I know there was one WP faithful who had his DVP as his sig and he seemed to love it. Cannot remember his name now. But on the other hand I have heard complaints. Here is a nightmare article.
If the DVP is going to run $240 unlocked, then why not look at your options? HTC Radar or the Lumia 710?
Im not really a fan of their screen sizes.
I always thought it to be the best looking of the first gen phones.
Never used it though.
There's some good advice here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473143
Since Mango, there really aren't any issues other than a few missing features:
-No compass support
-No Internet sharing
And then, there's not too much developer support at the moment, so there's no way to Interop unlock it.
But the major issues, like those mentioned in the article linked above, don't exist anymore.
Personally, I'll be using my DVP until someone else comes out with a Windows Phone with a portrait QWERTY.
Mind me asking where did you find them for $240?
Sent from my MIUI.us Sensation 4G using XDA App
Its certainly not a bad device, as long as you get one that doesn't have any of the issues that a lot of people seem to experience. Its a solidly built, unique, first-gen Windows Phone device.
Great for someone who just wants a device that works with no bells or whistles (aside from the great portrait keyboard).
If you are looking for a device to mess around with (unlock/ROMs/registry/etc.) then its probably not the best choice since there is little to no development work or support for the device itself.
There are other choices available, and better ones, considering that gen-two devices are out right now.
Still hard to beat that price though.

Sideloading XAPs is one thing. You can do that with any phone by simply paying the $100 for an AppHub account and getting an official developer unlock.
But to be able to do more (interop or full unlock), you're gonna need a device that has some people using it, and unfortunately, the DVP is not one of those devices. And with little help from Dell, you won't get much support in the future for the device either.
