The HTC Arrive arrives on the 20th for Sprint customers - but it's been out for quite a while overseas as the HTC 7 Pro, right?
was coming onto the forum to post this...ha
Preorded guys!!!!!!! Wirefly Accepting Sprint HTC Arrive Pre-Orders, Priced at $49.99
hi
hello...........
a post to say Thanks for the section =)
My upgrade is up May 1st, and this phone looks interesting.
Fair warning to those folks who are going to ditch their Android devices...there will be some things you will miss from Android. My suggestion would be to play with the phone in the stores prior to ordering it.
I got mine from UPS yesterday. I'm having data speed problems though.
Im new to WP7, but have been a long time WM user for over a decade. I have just ordered through wirefly the htc arrive, and will be learning the OS, as well as hacks. I currently am a huge homebrew Webos user, currently have a hacked Sprint Palm Pre Plus (hacked from VZ version) running Webos 2.1. If you havent used Webos you are missing a very very great OS. I myself love WM, microsoft and have used WP7 before through my job but not extensivly. I also would like info on the unlock Chevron method, and if the current version will work on the HTC Arrive since it has the update NODO preinstalled on it.

Anyword on the unlocked and the arrive yet?
FYI for all the Sprint HTC Arrive users, if you need a little more battery life I have confermed that the battery in the EVO does fit and work in the HTC Arrive. I also have a seller on ebay that is selling a 1800mhz battery (stock is 1500) with no need for a battery cover change, with a charging dock for $20. Heres the Link:

Hello I am new to the forums. I was wondering, I have the sprint TP2 and wanted to upgrade to the WM 6.5. Is it possible to do this? I was reading through the forums but was unsure if this was able to be done for the CDMA versions yet. If so what Flashing utility is the best to use and also what ROM and radio is the best. I have never upgraded before and could use your help. Thank you for your help
No. Not yet.

dude, don't be an ass. It's his first post.
Here's the skinny.
1. When the Official 6.5 update is uncertain. Though PCMag said 2010, I have a hard time believing that with the AT&T Tilt already selling with it. The windows mobile 6.5 update page says Oct/Nov for TP2, but we don't know if that means all versions. I'm guessing it means the different versions of it will be available throughout Oct and Nov. Just a guess.
2. Unofficial upgrades (hacked roms) to 6.5 are not possible for the CDMA version yet (Verizon and Sprint). In order to do it, you need the HardSPL bootloader. This is in development and hasn't been completed yet. When it does, we'll be able to load on any rom we want to the TP2. However, there might be a bit of a learning curve.
Let me know if you need anymore help (maybe PM me) and I'll be happy to.
Here is a couple of suggestions:

wonder why HTC since they releasing european version as we speak. Hope its soon 6.5 has so much better drivers.
I was speaking to the manager of North America via phone the other day. I know, but it was related to a few tickets I had submitted to HTC directly, and since they had not been resolved, he touched base with me directly via phone.
We went back and forth on an item or two about two weeks ago, and on Saturday I believe, when he called, I asked when it might be officially known when these updates would roll out.
He couldn't confirm what phones it would be rolled out for and when, but he said the official announcement would be in 1-2 weeks tops.
Hey, it's not accurate or a promise, but at least it's a window to deal with.

I too have been told by a reliable souce inside at sprint that it will be sometime in Nov. They have it now and are testing and tweaking it. They wont release it unless its ready.
On Microsofts web site they are saying it will be released October 2009/November 2009. I too just got my TP2 on Sprint and can not wait to upgrade to 6.5.
Below is the link on Microsoft's website where it say they will release 6.5 for the TP2.

Strange
I don't understand why HTC is having such a problem with this. Isn't the Imagio essentially the same phone? Other than no hardware keyboard and a 5 Megapixel camera?
Why can't they just cuplicate it for the Touch Pro 2?

Why do you assume it's HTC that's holding things up? Most likely, it's Verizon/Sprint. They have to customize and test the ROMs before releasing them. The ROM HTC released is for the unbranded European device which includes no vendor customizations.

I would have to say it is the carriers. They just released updates for the non-carrier phones. Carriers are well known for these issues.
This is now possible with Mighty Room, or the likes, http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=98
I just spoke with Verizon customer service and they have no idea when or IF our Touch Pro 2 will get the Windows 6.5 ROM update.
They tell me this just as they released the same phone minus the external keyboard (Imagio) with Windows 6.5 already installed!
Guess we need to keep waiting.........
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
UPDATE: I sent HTC an email asking about the update and this is their response:
Thank you for contacting HTC about updating the Verizon Pro2 to Windows Mobile 6.5.
I understand wanting to keep the device up-to-date. Regretfully, HTC does not currently have a software update for your device. The carriers request all software updates for the devices that they offer from HTC. Once the carrier contacts HTC about updating the software or changes to the devices, HTC’s Research & Development Team work with same department from the carrier to create the software. When and update is created it is tested by the carrier and then HTC host the software on our web site for download by customers free of charge or at http://www.pcdphones.com/uts_downloads.aspx. The updates are individually adaptered for each device and carrier.
You can also visit www.hctwiki.com for self-help and to participate in a survey.
Thank you,
Kay

I wish their response was that Verizon was currently testing the new ROM. Instead, it seems that HTC has not even received the request from Verizon to get a new ROM ready....... Now I wonder if I should have gotten the Imagio instead.......
i think we are definately going to see the hspl before we see any stock 6.5 roms. and once we get the hspl then its all custom after that anyway. it woulda been fun to play with 6.5 while waiting for the hspl, but oh well
someone from ppcgeeks posted a reply from HTC Support saying they are just about to startdeveloping the new 6.5 Rom updates...so its gonna be awhile if that is true
I was talking to the Verizon guys yesterday and the one I was talking to said there were rumors of the end of this month, but it depends on something with Microsoft. I'm not so sure he understood what I was talking about though, so take it with a grain of salt hah.

Here's the cynic in me:
A: They've already sold the phone, and they're selling like hotcakes so why change it... then again why put the effort in if they weren't selling? haha
B: Funny thing about them selling out, the local "Premium VZW dealer" (Not actually verizon) doesn't stock HTC phones and only stocks blackberries as they are easier to use... which is funny because they've lost selling at least three premium phones in the last couple weeks amongst my friends.
I am getting tired of winmo bashing.
I actually talked to their tech support a few days ago and he said that it was in the cards, but there wasn't an official date yet. Perhaps they're modifying the ROM for their services *shrugs*
Nah eff that, if verizon does some stupid modifying for there server, i really hope we get a hard-spl soon. I never really cared if we did itd be nice ofcourse. But thats why verizon phones suck so much is there damn way they do there stuff.
I would imagine that they would want to push out 6.5 to the few thousand people who have 6.1 Touch Pro 2's. I'm sure they don't want to have to support both 6.5 and 6.1 on tech support as it would increase costs. Hopefully, the hold up is related to tweaks HTC and Verizon are making to fix the annoying little things. Maybe we'll see the update when the TP2's get back in stock as they probably want all of them to be the same.
I just talked with a couple of verizon business reps and its rumored internally with the company that the 6.5 rom will be released the end of OCT. Microsofts website states OCT/NOV.

It seems to me a little weird that they all of a sudden where out of stock a few days before 6.5 and the new Imagio phone. I think like on the Storm they have just taken them out of circulation and when they return the new ones will have 6.5 and we will have a new ROM. This happened twice with the Storm when it got updates to the Blackberry OS. It was out of stock for 3 weeks when the current update was rolled out then all of a sudden it was in stock again and the update was on their site. I'm kinda wandering if when we get 6.5 we are also gonna see the phone having VCast TV like the Imagio. Its probably hardware capable. Of course its been out for three years now and its still only in the same 20 markets with a promise of more to come that entire time.
why
I don't think they're going to release 6.5 for the TP2 ever. Why bother? They can't even manage their own website half the time. Obviously they don't have the resources to upgrade stuff for 'free'.
Plus, even if they did, I wouldn't bother, assuming XDA cracks this bastard.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't it be HTC to release the update anyway??
Got 2 ROM ups for my Titan before, so..........

You stated exactly what I was going to say to him. With the XV6800 sure it was locked out of several things (e.g. GPS) and what not but all ROM updates were FREE to download from the site. Also as most have seen they have released the 6.5 ROM over in Europe, so it is only a matter of time before Verizon releases the ROM. Oh and for those that don't know it is Verizon who choose the date at which to release the ROM, HTC and Microsoft only provide the software.
Anywho...my TP2 rocks and I can't wait for the ROM to be released, 6.5 is an excellent upgrade from 6.1 as far as finger friendly, and touch screen go.

I'm guessing my october if they aren't any good android devices on t-mobile I have to go Win-Mo with the HD2

Good Question!!
On my last conf. call my manager stated that "Android is OLD", lol! Because of the lack of updates from 1.5/1.6 - 2.1.
As of right now, our focus is the Wins Mobile HTC HD2. When i say "our focus", i mean MY SALES TEAM in the Southeast, I am not speaking on the behalf of Tmobile in general. just only my opinion based on my sales team **disclaimer** lol!
NOw, the HTC Desire(only in the UK) can be purchased unlocked (699.99). As a 'rooter' I would rather buy the Nexus One and root the Desire ROM. As a customer, I would still purchase the Nexus One b/c of the price difference.

Every springfield other than Springfield MO is mentioned. Be a secret Ninja and get us some 3g news! Please?
I had the regular cliq before I got the xt, and I'll have to say they xt is WAY better. I never really complained about it running 1.5 because that's what it had when I bought it and I liked it when I bought it. Now I'm getting a little testy about not getting an android upgrade just for the simple fact that there are A LOT of new apps the require 1.6 or higher. It won't be much longer before 1.5 is dead altogether. It's like buying a brand new PC and it comes running windows 98 or something. Alot of stuff just won't work on 1.5 anymore so it's definitely time for an upgrade. I know we're on the list for an update and all that but they said that in March and it never came. I hope this Q2 thing is for real, and the XT is still running Blur version 1.3.11. Will that be updated before the android update? Does it need to be? I'm just wondering why the xt is yet to even get a Blur update. Just a few thoughts. I still really like the phone and after an update I'm sure I'll love it!!
Any way you can post the click xt's music player apk please?

I'm with you on that one. I'll have an HD2 soon as they're back in stock. I've been trying to get one for a month now. I got to play with a demo at the store and it was awesome..
I'm considering getting a Mozart, largely as a dev device to play around with. So I wanted to pick one up pretty cheap. Then I saw this one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160572515704
Any thoughts on it? The guys seems to be selling a few devices, each in this state. I presume this is Chevron unlocked and sideloaded with loads of stuff (apologies if my terms are wrong - new to WP7!). Would I regret this? Would it no longer get genuine updates such as Mango? Might MS block it altogether? I wouldn't be surprised if the guy got most of his info from here. Is he on here?
Thanks
Hey looks like a decent deal. However If you have about £50 more to spend i would recommend getting the samsung omnia 7 from german ebay, I got mine for £267 including courier delivery and thats the 16gb version, Already only have 4 gig free and only had it a week!! The extra space is well worth it.
They are unbranded brand new devices, mine updated to nodo as soon as i synced with Zune.

Hi there,
I finally decided to open a thread for discussing the matter above, because I do not want the thread for officially validated info here be flooded by discussion, whining and bashing.
So everybody is invited tell us here, if he thinks that HTC sucks or whatever about the HTC ICS update.
My personal opinion is, that they don't. It is normal that development is delayed, and deadlines are shifted. They have to deliver an update, that is working out of the box without feedback from community testers and iterations like the custom roms here. And this is not only valid for Android kernel and drivers but also for the Sense 3.6 stuff. The only thing one could really blame em for imho is that they don't communicate the delay. On the other hand it is clear why they do not. If they officailly announce it, it will be all over tech press and blogs and even "normal" users, will know about not only the guys here (who are a minority in global sales). And this would also give the Android critics a voice again, and HTC has definetly no interest in that, so they shut up.
So, you got a working devices, which is able of everything you were promised when buying it. HTC will update it to ICS, even though they don't have to and there is no technical need. This is why I can't understand all this frustration. Of course, I prefer to have the update sooner than later, but this is life.
Just my 2 cents.

My contract ended 4 months ago now. I switched to a 30-day rolling contract with Three as there is no phone out that that I really want. The S3 has nice specs, but I don't like the way it looks, and it's a bit too big. The HTC OneX has nice specs, but no removable storage, and it's a bit too big.
I have decided that my next phone will, I hope, be the next Nexus. I have got my hands on the NExus 7 tablet recently, and it's amazing - if they can do something half as good for the next Google phone it will be a winner.
The 'Customer Service' side doesn't worry me. As soon as I get my hands on something I tend to root it and therefore risk the warranty. As for the whole ICS thing - it doesn't really worry me as I have no doubt we'll get it in the end. I am far more concerned with how good the hardware is and how much support it gets from the devs.
I don't really mind - I've got ISC with CyanogenMod 9 anyway. It would be nice to get an official update though. For me, the waiting time doesn't matter. I'm happy with CM9/other ICS roms for now.

My 12 month contract its due up this month. How well HTC support their existing customers is going to sway my decision on my next phone, & at the moment I'm leaning towards a Galaxy S 3.

You know, it's not so long ago that HTC was the darling of developers just because they built the G1, G2 and Nexus One. Meanwhile Samsung owners were waiting until the end of 2011 for the Galaxy S to be upgraded from Eclair to Froyo - that's nearly a year after 2.2 first appeared.
Sony Ericsson used to get a lot of stick too for not updating their Xperia line, but the more recent ones at least got kind-of-official support for unlocking long before HTC's 2011 models.
To be blunt, I think all the manufacturers are as bad as each other when it comes to unlocking and official updates; which is why my next phone will almost certainly be a Nexus.

Hard to disagree - seems good sense to go to the source, not drink downstream
