I just got my phone two days ago. Came from droid, droid x, dinc all rooted. Unrevoked hooked it up for the dinc. Are they working on something for the inspire? I would like to get rooted and overclocked asap. But need more info.
Maybe this is what you're looking for?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961406
EDIT: The download seems to be pulled due to a small issue with the program. I guess you can keep an eye out for any updates.
Yeah, this is what I was looking for. But this gold card stuff bothers me. Not to mention I do not have the adapter that allows you to put the micro sd card into the computer. I would have to keep it in the phone and try to get it to work like that. Is that even possible?

Yes, you can keep the SD card in the phone and use the usb cord that came with your phone. You can use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970157 to help you create a gold card.
Thanks again man. I will have to look into all this and get going. I hear that when you root the inspire 4G, you disable the blocks or whatever ATT put on them to stop them from running the full data download speeds they are capable of.

Some ROMS come with HSUPA enabled. You can look here for some ROMS/Kernels and see what they offer. http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1018
I am kind of new to this rooting and ROM stuff. Came from the captivate and that was a piece of cake.
After reading lots of threads and lots of trial and errors, I eventually got the hang of it. After you root, you are pretty much set to customize your phone. Lots of luck.
The one click tool originally posted has been updated so it should do all you need need now after you create your GoldCard.
Ok, so I see there is a lot of root threads here already but I haven't really seen my answer. Is it really worth it? I know I can flash different roms (chics phone is rooted so I flashed hers) but I mean really? My battery life isn't to bad and my phone seems decent in speed (is it that much faster oc'd?) Is there a huge advantage stock vs rooted? Like the iPhone, you jb to have anything really, Android blows that out of the water right out the box and I'm or was an iPhone user since it first came out. Just don't know if I'm over looking something or not. Well that's my rant for the night haha.
Ok everyone's going to tell you to root lol. Its really a personal preference. As for ocing i found that it really smooths out the overall performance of the phone. I personally enjoy the custom roms. I think that is what the general thought will be. Also having root access lets you change things like boot animation and other system things like that. It really just makes the phone fully customizable and also allows you to remove bloat ware.

Of course it is. That's not to say the phone isn't great out of the box.....It is.
I didn't have the urge to root right away, because I was happy with the phone as it was... For awhile.
Then, I got sick of wading through ATT **** in my apps just to find the stuff I wanted. I wanted to back up my apps/data. I wanted amazon market...
So the most important thing for me was... Having CONTROL of my phone. I don't want to be at the mercy of ATT or HTC. It was more the principle of it.
Now, I've realized how much potential the device REALLY has, thanks to XDA devs, and being rooted gives you options.
It's up to you whether you want to do anything to the phone, but at least you have a choice in the matter if you're rooted.
My take is that if you can not leave well enough alone and want to squeeze out every possibility out of something then root. If you are going to just use the phone to make calls and messaging without concern for the little things (few extras like Netflixs etc), then don't bother. It it plenty capable being stock. To be honest (just my opinion) I really cant tell mine is rooted other than the few little custom features I added. It was smooth before and just as smooth now. I know one thing, my signal and data speeds have not change any....again just my opinion. Would I do it again, sure..its addictive. But then again I have a little OCD built inside of me
Thanks guys. What did you guys use to back your stuff up? I just bought titanium backup pro.... guess I shoulda read the whole thing before paying 6.88 lol. Also which method is better? The one click or hack kit? Any known issues with either? And I use a Mac but also have access to a PC. I have the hack kit on my mac but it recommends a PC to make a gold card. Does it not work well with a Mac or what?

The hack kit worked great on my mac. I actually had trouble on my boot camp so i swithed over to mac and finished it up. I did make the gold card with my pc. Tb is nice i have used it to remove bloat ware but not for backing up apps but it should do the trick. It will back it all up to your micro sd card though. So remember that when you go to make your gold card.

Titanium backup is an excellent choice, especially for apps, and the removal/freezing of bloat. Many people choose to do it manually, but titanium backup is certainly a worthwhile purchase, imo.
Just be careful backing up and the restoring system data with titanium backup when changing roms, as a lot of problems can occur when restoring old system data to a new ROM.
I personally used bubby's "simple root," what you refer to as "one-click," (there's nothing truly "one-click" about rooting this phone ), but the hack kit is more functionally capable in terms of other non-rooting, but related tasks you may need to do someday. Not to mention the usability of the hack kit has improved considerably from the time when I first rooted and chose bubbys method.
With the hack kit, you need to make sure you flash a proper, fully functioning ROM after you've completed it, as the ROM it leaves you with is not intended to be the ROM you keep on the phone going forward, as I understand it.
Yeah I meant the simple root. As for the TB I just downloaded, I can only use that after I root from what I gather. The hack kit won't open on the PC, it opens on my Mac though. Simple root opens on the PC fine so maybe ill just use that one. Haven't decided yet though. I'd like to just use one computer and not jump back and for. Oh another thing, since my chics phone is rooted could I just use that SD card to do mine as well or is it a good idea just to use your own SD card?

You can use tb to back up just not remove bloat ware without root if I remember correctly. The sd card you can use but you still have to make your own gold card its device specific.

Faster with potentially better battery life. But more importantly, you have absolute control over your phone. That is what brought me to Android in the first place. Root it.

Yeah, that's what brought me over too. I'm going to root it tonight if all goes well. Thinking of trying coredroid or leedroid. Or is there a better one I'm missing?

My understanding is that you can use the same gold card for multiple devices.
Perhaps I got my wires crossed when recalling the discussion about it... It might very well be the same *SD* card they were referring to, but I'm really inclined to think the same gold card is re-usable.
At the very least, now I'll have to go double-check.
Edit:
Here's the discussion I was referring to.
Once a gold-card, always a gold card--for any device that needs it.

Should definitely give Virtuous a try. Much like CoreDroid, but little smoother even. Double-tap to zoom on websites is almost always instantaneous, whereas on other roms, it tends to lag.

Hi forum!!
I've been a happy Samsung Galaxy I9003 owner for a while now, and I've always come to this forum for reference on any issues encountered. But right now I have an issue i'm having a hard time understanding, and it's quite a mistery.
Everything started when I downloaded the new Gingerbread update. The phone was wonderful, worked perfectly, but it had one little issue. I left it one night, and the morning after when i picked it up i saw that it was prompting for the initial data (language, use 3G-Wifi, etc). I completed the form once more, and it was back to factory...but in a weird way. Contacts were gone, SMS were gone, APNs were gone, WiFis were gone...but my apps were still there! They were even ordered alphabetically in the menu! Weird, really weird...Background was back to the factory one, icons on the main desktop were back to factory ones, ringtones were back to factory ones. But all my app configurations were still there, emails, gmail, market, corporate email...it was all there.
I discarded this as an issue with the Gingerbread ROM i installed (from Kkrraazzyy's post, the last one), so I downgraded to Froyo once more. Now, why would I ever want to do that?
Idiot me did not look into what version I was running. So I tried the version i remembered I had installed. Worked nice, installed nice...but....next morning...SAME ISSUE! Once more the initial configuration and the same thing...no APNs, no SMS, no Contacts, no nothing, but apps and configs, purrfect!
Now, what I did was move to other Froyo images thinking that I might have gotten the wrong one. I discarded 4 or 5 of them, with different things not working on my phone exactly.
So, after a bit of debating with myself, I decided to upgrade to another GB, but not the final version, a previous one. When i connected it to Samsung Kies, to restore my backup, Kies greeted me with a "I've got a new firmware for your phone...do you wish to upgrade?". I thought "Why not? Maybe if the Samsung software is performing the upgrade, then it might work, considering that i wouldn't be intervening and possibly not interfering with it. So it upgraded, took a considerable amount of time in comparison to ODIN, but it went through.
How did it go? Smooth as silk...everything was wonderful! Apps worked, hardware worked, phone run well...backup went in perfectly...i was so happy! Last night I was watching a movie with it, it was great! So i went to sleep with a happy smile on my muzzle, only to wake up this morning and find the phone with....THE FRIGGIN' START FORM ONCE MORE!! FFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!
Once more, no APNs, no SMS, no Contacts, no WiFi, no nothing!!! Back to factory partially!
So now i'm thinking...firmware is out of the question...is there any chance there might be something physically wrong with my phone by now?? Something like...I don't know...I haven't got the slightest idea. So i'm open to ideas about what this might be about..
Oh, a colorful note...don't know if it has something to do, but i consider it sporty to let you know about it. A weird thing about a Froyo version i installed, was that when you woke up the phone, it would show a red sign on the top saying "Internal SD memory removed". I was truly shocked since I thought that the internal memory could not be removed without the phone crashing. But well, i just discarded that data at the time as an issue with the image.
Ideas, anyone? If not, i'm guessing i'll just place it under my car, ran it over, and get another with the insurance...
I think I heared such problem once a time. Try in this way
1. flash kpe with all 4 files
2. flash kpm single file as pda file.
3. do factory reset
if it solve ur problem then its better for u. But if u still face internal sd card error problem then straight way flash stock firmware which is available in ur country & go to samsung center & tell them that suddenly this problem is occured. Dont tell them that u have ever flashed anything on it.

LMAO, I lol'd hard at your post regarding it went overnight FUU.
Firstly, the post was a little long, but interesting. Me gusta.
The problem could be the following
- What class is your SD card? Some tend to buy cheap ones, or some tend to offer when you get a SALE they pitch in a ****ty SD card that literally messes your phone. Made in Taiwan > Made in China. For some. There have been cases when the SD card has not been "ejected" properly the phone tends to receive this as a crash and default sets everything back to stock *Apple does this aswell*. But ofcourse I implore you to try using ANOTHER SD card. If your using one that used to be from a Nokia phone then you need to format that ****. Some files in Nokia cause issues with the Android, this happened when I first got my phone aswell. I would suggest getting one from branded companies, Kingston/SanDisk, IMO, Sandisk is the best. Cheap yet to the mark.
- What put me on edge was your contacts and messages being gone. Maybe it's SD related. Iunno.
PS: Don't use Kies. Kies is horrible. If 2 ugly trolls mated, Kies was probably the result.
To test: Use XXKPH/XXKPM Choice is yours, Don't know how to flash it? Link is under my sig, Remove your SD card. Use it for a day, Fill up the internal memory with atleast 500MB of stuff. Lastly? Pray that overnight the trollfairy doesn't swap your phone with a factory reset one .
Hey Misledz! Thanks for your reply!
About the SD Card, I'm using a Kingston Class 4, 8GB one. But the issue is presenting with "Internal SD Card". While i'm doing this with the phone, just out of precaution, i take it out and i haven't placed it inside my phone yet.
And the whole "Trollfairy" thing, it's starting to look like a viable explanation to it, LOL!!

@Collie, Well the problem happens at times when you don't factory reset. *2767*3855# that should get you in to a manual factory reset. The phone's internal memory sometime's has issues with that, You may however need to flash the latona file to repartition the drive. After the repartition, the flashing of the firmware and lastly, le factory reset. That should serve as a stable ground base
Kingston Nice.

About that, maybe I'm doing the reset in an incorrect way. I've been using Vol +, OK, Power to enter the second recovery mode and factory reset the phone. I don't know if this is the same as using the code.
Update on what I did:
I installed the last version of Gingerbread once more, flashed with Odin. This time i did not install any app or register in google, i just left it as it was. This was done saturday afternoon. At night, i took it with me, and i left it in my bag while I was at the club. When i got back to it, around 6 AM, it hadn't rebooted. So i went home, went to sleep, woke up at midday for lunch and....FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!
LOL the irony of the best order. Well did you try without the sdcard? That's your last option from your side, the next possible is getting the unit changed if you are under warranty, just don't mention odin, rather always blame kies LOL. If the end of the world happened, kies. World War 3,kies. There was a user who had the same issue reported like 5months ago, he had internal ROM problem where the phone failed to save the information it was given causing it to say the internal was corrupt? He ended up getting a new unit and found out later the unit he had previously was a faulty handset

SD has been out since day 1, since I started having this issue, first thing i thought is "this idiot is saving its own files to the SD instead of its own memory, and when it reboots for some reason it can't find the files and goes nuts".
So yes, i'm thinking about just taking it to the store and getting a new one...

I'm running the stock OS on my sidekick and am running out of memory on the internal SD card. It can't run the updates. I have only a handful of apps downloaded. T-mobile won't let me delete a whole host of stupid apps I never use. I went through and moved everything to the external SD card that would move (very few apps are willing to move, grrrrr). I even deleted the updates to all the stupid apps that can't be moved on the assumption that they always get larger over time (is this a correct assumption?) and turned off the auto en masse updating.
Anyway, I'm out of ideas. I guess this is a rant because I don't have much hope. It annoys me no end that the idea of android and having control of the device gets destroyed by the carriers.
Still loving the keyboard. I'd marry it if it was legal to.
[I just want a phone that does a few things reliably and I don't want to spend the hours I did with my last android rooting and re-rooting it, I added it up and it was 16 hours, at least, at 125 an hour for my personal time it was the single most expensive thing I've ever owned.]
Rooting this phone will fix your problem and will take a novice 20min and a pro 3-5min, choice is yours though

As demkantor said, rooting the SK4G is not very tough even for newcomers. Pretty straightforward and once you finish the process you can use those shiny new root permissions to delete things like the app-pack, qik-vidchat, and all that other bologna. Check the dev section and it's all there.
I agree, just root and install a lightweight ROM. It's not that difficult or time-consuming. Then you can tailor the phone to your liking. Or you can try Googling "android remove bloatware without root." Quite a few how-tos will come up, although I can't vouch for any of them.
Easy remove

I'm running the stock OS on my sidekick and am running out of memory on the internal SD card. It can't run the updates. I have only a handful of apps downloaded. T-mobile won't let me delete a whole host of stupid apps I never use. I went through and moved everything to the external SD card that would move (very few apps are willing to move, grrrrr). I even deleted the updates to all the stupid apps that can't be moved on the assumption that they always get larger over time (is this a correct assumption?) and turned off the auto en masse updating.

For the easy then, SuperOneClick works for root. it's super and one click for the sk4g. "Titanium backup" can then delete everything that has a neon pink icon (TMO bundled crap, there is lots) Most of the "neon pink" is safe to remove, please someone correct me if something doesn't fit the large generalization.
Should be less than an hour.
For your problem root the phone then update superuser an download /system/app an you can delte the useless apps from tmobile or stuff you don't use
Or you can install a rom which would fix a lot of problems
P.s. also after root download clean master an run it every few days go through an delete the bs stuff you don't use folders that were not deleted

When I putt he SD into my phone (currently running Paranoid KANG droid 2.32) I actually get nothing more than an occasional "SD has been removed" message. However, when I put the card into my old OG droid (running Cyanogenmod 7) i get the "unsupported file system" error. This has happened before, and I just had to wait it out before the SD recovered on its own. It is not doing this now. (yes I am an idiot for still using it despite my 32 gigs of internal storage). I have a feeling it is formatted as RAW due to a formatting issue, but I can't get anything else (pc or other devices) to recognize the card, other than my OG droid. So what I want to know, is if there is a way to force mount the card, or give a PC control over the sdcard path and force mount it some way through the PC (effectively turning my phone into an external card reader, because traditional methods don't work). I need a workaround for this, because there are dozens of pictures of my family, puppies, and friends on it that I don't want to lose.
Back up the card of you can, it sounds like it's dying on you. This phone really s3ms to kill cards, I've already gone through 2 32gig cards.
I had a 32GB Sandisk Ultra MicroSD card, and by chatting with Sandisk support, I am going to exchange my dead card for a working card. BTW, while you can, salvage the data you can, because it starts out like that, before becoming completely unusable.
I've went through two SanDisk. They are easy to work with, just get the ball rolling on the replacement.
Like the others said, get your data backed up as soon as you can.

wow. so now not only am I not able to use my phone on tmobile's 4g, I also cannot have external storage because the phone destroys it? what a tremendously idiotic piece of crap.
does anyone know about any apps or pc software that would help me get my data back? I have the card reader but the pc wants to format the card and so does the phone. I need, like, mad rescue gear.
thanks!
Wow... You can't use it on someone else's 4g because it was designed for a different network.
Also I've not had any problems whatsoever with my external.

Had 4 of these cards for a year now and not one hiccup. I'd say whatever is happening to them, its something you are doing to crap them, not the vendors. ALways backup your critical data, but if you treat these cards properly they will work and last as well as any.
No, you CAN use it on someone elses network, just not T-mobile as it doesn't do hdspa+ 1700, 1900... There's even a bounty out for that elsewhere on xda, to enable these bands, I believe it's currently at over $200.
And no, I'm not doing crap to the SD card. I've had it for over two years, used it on a different phone before that, never did anything different and it just died out of the blue. I'm not a noob, I would know if I had done something to it.
You would be pretty pissed off too if all your data was deleted, the phone you spent many many hours working to pay for did not work and when you ask for help someone blames you instead of helping. But I guess it's easier to blame than to help out right?
I get that part. However, don't get mad that it doesn't work fully for the network is wasn't designed for. That was my biggest part. I know there's a bounty. However, its been up for forever and nothing has come of it. I can't stand seeing people gripe about this phone because its not literally magic. Verizon's stuff is locked down, always has been, probably always will. Its a different radio/modem/antenna set than the tmo and at&t versions. It was meant to run on Verizon's network. Period.
