I Called Simple. They could not determine source of problem. Submitted ticket to Corporate Office.
Plan ends today. Lets see if it gets reset by itself. Will keep results posted!
We must have something in common. Hopefully more people post here so we can better analyze our situation...
I REUP last night thinking that the issue will reset once I started fresh, but I'm experiencing super slow speed.

You both are over 2GB data. Is there anything that says you will be throttled after 2GB?
I'm going to check the terms and conditions but it's unlimited data supose.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA Premium App
people always confuse the term "unlimited" Unlimited doesnt mean you can download as much as you want as fast as you want, it just means you will always have access to data. hence the term Unlimited Data. Check you TOS, or call the CS and ask what the Data Usage limit is.
Truly unlimited, but CAPPED!
For Your Information:
Simple Mobile piggy backs T-Mobiles lines.
T-Mobile Still offers Unlimited but, you get capped if you go over their 5Gigs.
But T-Mobile now has 59.99 unlimited plans and they lowered their 4G limit to 2Gigs.
They still keep true to their word, but they CAP YOU INSTEAD!!!
Simple Mobile follows T-Mobile standards.
Source: http://goo.gl/kDhtF
My reup has not taken place yet. Will post if cap has been removed after new reup!
Simple Mobile Caps you after 2 gigabytes usage of data!
Reup took place and internet is back at full speed
Conclusion:
Service was Capped (restricted up/download speeds) after 2 gigabytes of data services use.
Thanks to everyone that participated in the conduction of this problem and in helping to come to this conclusion.
Simple mobile cap
I believe that they cap you after you hit over 200 mb on your 2 gig limit, then they just throttle your network. I've been using simple mobile for about a year now and has happened to me twice. I've just gotton so use to wifi when possible like at home and work
Its 2.5gig now at 60

So it says that they wont charge us for downloading OTA update, but... my log says otherwise. ( the 13k kb ones are the OTA update download btw )
How come it ate up my data usage?
I previously had approximately 85-89mb of data usage for the month, but after attempting to download the OTA update quite a few times ( I was frustrated since it keeps telling me that update failed ), it showed up on my data usage log. Now AT&T tells me that I've used 159mb/200mb so far, and I even got a text this morning saying I've used 65% of my data usage for the month. ( I'm on the 200mb data plan )
What the heck is going on??? what if there's an OTA update in the future that are three digit long. If I go over my limit, I would have to pay extra $15.00 for another 200mb of data. @[email protected]
I went over my limit but if you call them they will credit your bill for the data used. It's still a hassle though. I think at&t is still new to the Android phones and the need for updates.
Shouldn't be foreign to em though. My wife has done quite a few updates with her iphones.

Someone from android forum told me this:

Same here I was connected to Wifi. AT&T reps are so dumb. I called AT&T regarding this and he says as per AT&T policy, OTA updates are charged. He also suggested that if I am concerned about AT&T charging OTA updates then either I should upgrade to 2GB plan or don't use smartphone at all.

Wow, that rep is a jerk!
I got charged 6 times on my account. I tried the OTA update 6 times and failed each time. so now I have 72 MB charged to my data plan... either Engadget got their story wrong, or both Engadget and AT&T are both lying...

iOS updates are all through iTunes right? This cuts AT&T out of the picture all together.

Correct. iPhones do not use OTA for firmware updates. You have to use iTune to download the firmware then update the phone. WP7 will be the same.
I had my galaxy nexus for a month and I couldn't stand sprint( even tho they have "unlimited data") so recently moved to T-Mobile whihapperently had best coverage . And I like the service for the time that I had it so far so I was checking my data usage and i saw the Android data usage is really high never happened on my nexus so I was wondering if anyone have any idea what could have been using ? Thanks

I've been having a similar problem on the two Moto Defys in my family. Onavo Count shows Motorola Blur as using data at the rate of tens of MBs per day even though no apps requiring data were being used. I confirmed the total handset usage with Tmobile and then tried using Go Launcher EX instead of Blur, and sure enough the mysterious data usage disappeared. I still have no idea why a stock launcher would do such a thing, but everything points to it. You're problem may be completely different, but I'd start looking into alternative system apps if it persists after a hard reset.

I know this is an old thread, but in case it comes up in a search for someone else, I had this problem and it was solved easily. I didn't turn off my sync for gmail, etc. I just went to Settings>Privacy> and un-checked the option to back up my settings. I think my phone was using cellular data to back up my apps and all their settings to google's cloud, which was causing my data use to skyrocket. Un checking that box solved it.
I bought the HTC one x because I got bored of my first Gen windows phone (I'll be back for windows phone 8).
I'm wondering if I can keep my windows phone around when I'm traveling for gaming, browser and possibly use it to make free data calls.
Skype is the only thing I found but obviously that costs money. And I'm fine with that but just wondering if it's possible thru another app.
Thanks

You can if wifi or if you tether it. Just ignore the message about the SIM when it comes up.
Look at go voice i think its called. IT's google voice.
Or get Tango.me

You can save your money with Skype. Just join a Bing Rewards (if you eligible), and by spending 3-5 minutes daily, you can earn up to $6-8 (Skype credit rewards) weekly (of course, not with one but five (eligible) accounts).
I'll not share ways to automate earnings but you may google for that

Never spent even penny for Skype, using up to 80 international minutes weekly

Been doing this since day one buddy. I know all about the bing rewards.
I spent about 200 points entering the lumia 900 contest and the rest (over 2000) went towards skype credit.
I'm a gold member so the 10% off helps too!
I'm not doing it through anything automatic. I don't cheat the system when the system is good to me.
Hmm, if you already found this way, why do you saying "Skype is the only thing I found but obviously that costs money" and asking for another solution?
4 example, if you calling in US, each buck give you about 40 minutes. So weekly you can earn approx. $8 in Skype credits what gives you 320 minutes of the talk time (in US).
I don't know how you're cheating the system but I have to do multiple searches using Bing everyday. And I only have one account. So it's not $8 a week.
Also, I'd rather use my google voice number but f there are no other options then I'm fine with Skype.

Hey, did I've used word "cheating"?
I'm not a cheater; also I'm not so cheap to look for the "free calls" - it's absolutely fine for me to pay for my AT&T contract, with excellent voice and LTE (3 GB) data connection (actually 'cause I'm a developer, my apps paying for my family contract and much more but it's a different story).
What I'm saying, it's an absolutely fine to have a 5 Bing Rewards accounts per household (read the MS rules!); also if you want to simplify (and automate) steps to earn rewards - there are nothing about it at agreement and rules. Of course if you not smart enough to do that - it's your own problem...
I just recently switched calling plans and the one I got has a 2 gig limit. Before the switch, I reviewed my data usage for the preceding several months and saw that I was consistently between 2.25 and 2.5 gigs. I figured if I cut out some of the heavy stuff like Pandora and YouTube I'd be fine and stay under the limit.
This evening my phone was having trouble connecting to the internet. But the 3G icon was up there, and I had a strong signal. But the signal bars were grey, not blue, indicating there was a network connection - but I just couldn't get online with it.
I finally thought to check my data usage and just about lost my mind after seeing Google Calendar has used over 1 gig of data in 5 days! How is that possible? What data is the calendar downloading? I can't imagine that syncing every once in awhile with the occasional appointment I might add could use up so much data.
The other apps, ones I figured would be the data hogs, were actually not. Facebook, JustPictures, and Google Play all used way less than the calendar. How is that possible? I'm attaching a few screenshots so you can see what I see.
So now I've got not data on my phone for the next three weeks because I've used it all up (or I should say the Calendar used it all up).
Anyone have any ideas or know anything about this?

Block background data.had a new phone use up 5gb in 4 days when phone was barely used.and carrier wouldn't tell me what did it.background data off its never gone over 600 MB's

Sent Via Carrier Pigeon
I'm planning on disabling the background data as soon as my plan renews. Hopefully that will prevent this kind of thing from happening again.
But I'm still wondering how the calendar can be using so much data. Isn't it just like syncing my email? Doesn't the calendar just check with Google servers for new appointments and download those to my phone? Even if it synced a lot, isn't the info being downloaded just text? How many appointments would it take to equal 1gig of data? I don't have that many entries on my calendar!
This issue hasn't bothered me too much until recently but is there a specific issue that I'm getting such slow speeds when I tether? On USB to my computer my max is 200kbs and when I use it as a hotspot, the max is 10kbs. I have pretty good LTE reception and amazing HSPA+ reception in my house. I've tried tethering with just 3G as well and still about the same. Is this due to the native tethering app that the Android system gives? Should I use something like Foxfi or something like that to see much more improvements? Without tethering, my data speeds are off the roof. Anyone with a solution to this?
i have no issue like that(unlimited high speed data plan). try playing with some settings or give tmo a call. on lte, and i always wirelessly tether, i see nearly the same as my data speeds, 30-50mbps download speeds while tethering.
How are you tethering in the first place? I thought T-Mobile only allowed tethering if you bought an extra plan?

no, all their simple choice plans include tethering. they are all unlimited tether except the unlimited high speed data plan, it comes witb 5gb tethering and is $80. im on an earlier version, i pay $70 for the same plan, but get only 3gb tethering
oh, its unlimited on all the smaller high speed simple choice plans because their speeds get reduced when they reach their limit. its limited on the completely unlimited high speed plan because we would all use it for our total home internet.

I used the "tether_dun_required" method to tether using my plan. I actually don't have subscription to T-mobile tethering. It's the prepaid plan, not the simple choice one. Is that the issue then?
