This issue hasn't bothered me too much until recently but is there a specific issue that I'm getting such slow speeds when I tether? On USB to my computer my max is 200kbs and when I use it as a hotspot, the max is 10kbs. I have pretty good LTE reception and amazing HSPA+ reception in my house. I've tried tethering with just 3G as well and still about the same. Is this due to the native tethering app that the Android system gives? Should I use something like Foxfi or something like that to see much more improvements? Without tethering, my data speeds are off the roof. Anyone with a solution to this?
i have no issue like that(unlimited high speed data plan). try playing with some settings or give tmo a call. on lte, and i always wirelessly tether, i see nearly the same as my data speeds, 30-50mbps download speeds while tethering.
How are you tethering in the first place? I thought T-Mobile only allowed tethering if you bought an extra plan?

no, all their simple choice plans include tethering. they are all unlimited tether except the unlimited high speed data plan, it comes witb 5gb tethering and is $80. im on an earlier version, i pay $70 for the same plan, but get only 3gb tethering
oh, its unlimited on all the smaller high speed simple choice plans because their speeds get reduced when they reach their limit. its limited on the completely unlimited high speed plan because we would all use it for our total home internet.

I used the "tether_dun_required" method to tether using my plan. I actually don't have subscription to T-mobile tethering. It's the prepaid plan, not the simple choice one. Is that the issue then?

Plan ends today. Lets see if it gets reset by itself. Will keep results posted!
We must have something in common. Hopefully more people post here so we can better analyze our situation...
I REUP last night thinking that the issue will reset once I started fresh, but I'm experiencing super slow speed.

You both are over 2GB data. Is there anything that says you will be throttled after 2GB?
I'm going to check the terms and conditions but it's unlimited data supose.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA Premium App
people always confuse the term "unlimited" Unlimited doesnt mean you can download as much as you want as fast as you want, it just means you will always have access to data. hence the term Unlimited Data. Check you TOS, or call the CS and ask what the Data Usage limit is.
Truly unlimited, but CAPPED!
For Your Information:
Simple Mobile piggy backs T-Mobiles lines.
T-Mobile Still offers Unlimited but, you get capped if you go over their 5Gigs.
But T-Mobile now has 59.99 unlimited plans and they lowered their 4G limit to 2Gigs.
They still keep true to their word, but they CAP YOU INSTEAD!!!
Simple Mobile follows T-Mobile standards.

My reup has not taken place yet. Will post if cap has been removed after new reup!
Simple Mobile Caps you after 2 gigabytes usage of data!
Reup took place and internet is back at full speed
Conclusion:
Service was Capped (restricted up/download speeds) after 2 gigabytes of data services use.
Thanks to everyone that participated in the conduction of this problem and in helping to come to this conclusion.
Simple mobile cap
I believe that they cap you after you hit over 200 mb on your 2 gig limit, then they just throttle your network. I've been using simple mobile for about a year now and has happened to me twice. I've just gotton so use to wifi when possible like at home and work
Its 2.5gig now at 60

I have a stock Rogers HTC OneX running the latest stock update 4.1.1. Not rooted, never had a custom installed on this particular device.
I am unable to use the mobile hotspot like I used to before the update. Both my laptops, my tablet and my TV can all connect to my HTC OneX with no issues. However, on each device, the connection is "Limited Connectivity" with no internet access.
I had originally thought it was the devices themselves and their settings. However, after using a friends device as a hotspot, each device connects perfectly with full connectivity. It has become obvious it is my OneX and it's settings preventing a full connection.
Here is where I ask you experts on how I may fix this issue.
Here are some SS of my current settings if it helps. Thank you for your help

Just wanted to follow up just in case other have the same issue as me.
After performing quite the bit of troubleshooting, I decided to call Rogers. Since the last time I have used me device as a hotspot, late fall, there have been two things that have happened. My data service got flipped over from HSPA to LTE and Rogers pushed out the HTC OneX 4.1.1 update. At first the tech was puzzled as my account seemed to be provisioned correctly. In the end, he removed tethering from my account, and reapplied it. This solved my issue immediately.
Before you jump in about Rogers and tethering; due note that Rogers USED to have a separate paid account feature for tethering. They removed this, and included tethering on all accounts, saying "data is data" which is a great thing. However, when rogers was ushering in LTE, originally they were NOT going to provision current users with HSPA data plans with LTE service. LTE data was going to be an extra feature you jumped over to for an extra cost, AND they were going have a separate provision code for tethering. This was shortly lived and just before LTE came out they announced that all data plans will be LTE compatible, with no extra charge so long as you had an LTE device. The old provision codes remained in the system and are supposed to be automatically added. Sometimes this does not happen or gets bugged causing my issue. This according the CSR Tech I spoke with.
TLDR; Out dated provision codes still in system and sometimes bug out. Rogers CSR reset my tethering feature and all is well and working.
I've seen a bunch of threads on enabling native tethering for VZW/ATT/Sprint, but none for T-Mobile. Any advice on how to enable native tethering for us TMO folks?
I would be very interested as well.

Again I am probably missing something but they need mod because tethering doesn't work. On T-Mobile tethering works with out any mods.....at least on my phone.

I am guessing because you don't have unlimited data, or you have been grandfathered in from an older data plan (which I was). Tmo switched my plan to unl when I upgraded to my previous phone 2 years ago. I was getting it fine when I was limited to 5gb, but when they "upgraded' my plan the last time, I lost the free hot spot option. For those who fall under this category, we now get greeted with the attached image. There has been similar hot spot blocking on ATT and VZW, but there are also workarounds in this section for them. I cannot find any that work for TMo clients in this scenario. My previous phone was a GS3 running CM 10.2. AOSP ROMs do not have the carrier check, so I was able to use this without issue for the last 2 years. Switching to XT1053 with stock ROM now causes this problem.

interesting, i recently switched to unlimited data and my tether works fine.
edit: looks like it didnt switch thats why i have tether
What unlimited plan do you have? I have the new one (simple choice i think) and I can tether fine. I've never actually gone beyond the 2.5gb limit, so I don't know if that's why you're getting the message.
I used to be able to tether on non-Kit-Kat on my Nexus 4. I switched to the Moto X running 4.4 and I am now unable to tether. I keep hitting a T-Mobile upsell page.

The T-Mobile framework-res.apk/res/values/arrays.xml doesn't have a value set for the config_mobile_hotspot_provision_app property. I was having trouble building framework-res but your thread provided the solution (deleting values-mcc-310-mnc-1; the other directory you said to delete wasn't in my framework-res). Thanks!
My last hope is the single reference to pcweb under framework-res/res/values-mcc310-mnc260/strings.xml. I swapped it for fast but my first attempt at replacing framework-res.apk failed--I need to recheck my steps and make sure I did the resigning and everything correctly. Hopefully I'll have some more time to do this tonight.
Okay guys, at least for now I've been able to get unlimited tethering via USB. This does require a paid version of FoxFi for PDA net. I'm unsure to whether or not the wireless tether works through FoxFi, currently sitting at 6.5/7 GB for the month so I haven't been able to test otherwise yet.
As usual with T-Mobile, you need to create a new APN and use IPv4. Then on FoxFi use USB tethering. On the PC client, be sure that you use the Level 1 Hide Tether Usage option in settings.
Build.prop was set for:
net.tethering.noprovisioning=true
It's extremely worth noting that I've done this on my ROOTED phone, with all T-Mobile apps removed except Mobile Hotspot, Device Unlock and visual voicemail.
My Account, money, TV, Lookout Security and com.t-mobile.pr.adapt and basically any other T-Mobile app is gone.
Please see screenshots for any other settings. Furthermore I'm not responsible if you mess anything up or if it doesn't work for you. Just sharing what I was successful with so far.
If I'm able to determine and wireless option I will post here as well, but must wait until my billing cycle reset. I've got an idea, but as this phone is brand new to me and just had a new baby on the 9th, it's been difficult to find the time to say the least.
Good Luck!

Sorry, 21st. As long as I do USB only I have no issues. Last night, I used WiFi Tether router to stream a few things through my roku 4, it hasn't seemed to increase my hotspot data, so that may be an option.

Is there a way to enable WiFi tether? With the unlimited tether?
I can't seem to share my WiFi capability through USB.... I do IT Work and is a vital function when reception is spotty....
Is there a option I missed or need to enable?

I did the same thing and my data jumped
Hey I was wondering if anyone could give me insight on this weird problem?
Using the same SIM in both, Both Native Hotspot on 2.4Ghz band, same servers and tried others.
My google pixel 2 isn't getting over 1 Mbps. But when I switch the sim back over to my pixel 1 I get over 10Mbps. (If I throw it in my LTE modem I get average 70 Mbps)

Pixel 1 *Left* vs Pixel 2 *Right* SpeedTest On Phones
Pixel 1 *First* vs Pixel 2 *Second*
Some kind of throttling on the Pixel 2 but not on Pixel?
I have the same problem. Tethering with the same Sim card through my OnePlusOne gives 15Mbps on my desktop, but it drops to 0.5Mbps while using through the Pixel 2 XL (regardless the carrier frequency).
USB tethering doesn't work at all, but I guess that belongs to another thread.
I'm having this issue too. No problems on my old Nexus 4. Same SIM card. I have unlimited data and never come close to my tethering banddwidth limit, so I'm not being throttled.
Anyone find a solution?
I've tried several solutions. Didn't make much difference, but I feel better about giving unlimited data to the tethering service (go to Settings/Apps&Notifications/Advanced/Special app access/Unrestricted data -- then from menu: Show System).
What did make an actual difference was getting the november security update. (Needed some trick for the update to show up on my phone.. T-mobile SIM out, original Verizon SIM in, update shows up in Settings/System update, Verzion SIM out, restart phone without any SIM, download & install update on WiFi, T-mobile SIM back). My WiFi tethering went up from 0.5Mbps to 13-15MBps (measured on desktop). Hope it helps.
Have the same issue - bumping thread
same problem, anyone found a fix yet? I just downloaded 8.1 but that hasn't fixed it.
VPN?
I was reading this thread and it reminded me of similer problems when using a VOIP app. I decided to engage a VPN first and all my speed and port problems went away.
The question for consideration is whether this would work for those using tethering and experiencing slow downs? The theory is that it the speed increases, then there is throttling by the carrier.
Thoughts?
For those it of you it might help a little. I did hours or research couldn't figure it out (have tried alot) . I just pretty much gave up and did the VPN trick. For those of you who wants to try it just download any VPN. I got a "modified" version of hotspot elite then added TetherNet from the store (YOU HAVE TO HAVE ROOT FOR THIS APP) and allowed my tether to connect to my VPN. The speed isn't 100% there but works..
Phone Speed is about 80 Mbps and tether speed I get about 20 Mbps.
and just incase any one asks I have the Tmobile 10gb high speed plan. At this moment I have used 2.35gb so I shouldn't be throttled yet incase anyone thinks that is the problem!
Has anyone tried calling their carrier to see if their phone is whitelisted for high speed hotspot?
