Does anyone knows if the famous bbm messenger for blackberry will be on android platforms anytime soon?
If there's a thread on this please feel free to let me know and please be kind enough to provide the link to it, thanks in advance

It has been asked across MANY different message boards... since Android was released. There hasn't been a breakthrough and, from what I've read, there's really no hope.
There were some articles on tech blogs late last year in which RIM were quoted as saying that they wished to bring their services to other platforms.
The rumour is that this means BBM on Android and iOS but so far nothing has materialised.
Whilst I can see why RIM want to embrace other platforms to try and retain some sort of relevancy in a market they're rapidly losing ground in, one wonders whether making BBM available to non-Blackberry users would just further the exodus of paying customers...
wow , looks like you just missed it , there was a buzz last month about it
see for yaself
RIM, mentioned that they're next OS update will allow android market apps to work on blackberrys and they're going to port BBM over to android AND iPhone.
Live Profile works across iOS, BB and Android. Works just like BBM with a pin. Free download from market.
I have my BB buddies on it.

just get whatsapp its so much better
RIM somewhat mention it..
but i dont know what app
i heard rumor, Rim will make it
for Android, iOS, Linux, dunna
its still not released yet,
for now i and most of my friends using whatsApp
Im using Whatsapp atm which is good. Be pretty cool if there was a BBM type app built in to work across brands though. Can't imagine that would do good for BB's sale's though...
BBM is one of the few parts that is holding RIM up. As far as BBM coming out for other platforms, we can only wait to find out.
cam
Whatsappppppppppening, Loooool, that's what I use, its good for what it does but obviously not as good as bbm, but if it did come to Android that would be brill

I think you must search in google just put the right keywords otherwise it wan't give you proper results
Here's hoping. BBM is ridiculously popular in my country. I keep trying to tell everyone that MSNM is the same ****ing thing and works across all platforms but they just won't listen.
Without BBM, RIM will only have it's email system going for it.

yea but is there an android app that can text to bbm. not a bbm app for android just one that sends sms to bbm??
What's wrong with texting...
Never live in the past but always learn from it.
For bbm to work on Android or IOS you would need to register your device on their servers and network. And unless RIM release an app that allows us to do that I don't think it will be possible. Or if a developer ports a the Blackberry software onto android devices it might be possible.
c'mon devs!!!!!!!!!!! port bbm to android pleaaaaaaassse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
bbm on droid!

Groupme: This has to be the worst app that has ever been designed for any platform. I understand that it's in preview but i've emailed their support atleast 15 times. Not even one reply. What the hell guys? You guys are owned by Microsoft (skype) for gods sake.
They recently released an update and it doesn't even include a mango update. It just adds live tiles, which don't work. Not even once.
Every time i open the app i get "Push notification ChannelOpenFailed error occurred. This channel does not exist but could not be opened. Try opening the channel again. (-2129589901) 0"
I've reinstalled the app 3 times. I've emailed their support, i've contacted them on twitter. They're just ignoring everything about windows phone. This is unacceptable for a company that is owned by Microsoft.
I know some people are going to say this is just an app and you can use the group feature in mango. No, i can't. This app uses data and it works with smart phones as well as dumb phones (via sms). The group chat feature in mango doesn't allow the other people to respond back and talk to each other. This is key for me. I have a group with some people and we need to be able to communicate with each other.
It's things like this that make me want to drop windows phone.
I love windows phone (you can check my post history) but i am really pissed off now. I'm tired of waiting for things to improve. Mango is excellent but it's 2011 and the platform itself doesn't mean anything. It's all about the 3rd party apps.
I mean, look at whatsapp for android and ios and then check it for windows phone. They say they need more time to develop a decent app. Mango beta has been out for months. What's talking so long? Skype? Words with friends? Where are these apps? Is it lack of motivation cause of the 1% market share?
I am seriously considering android ice cream sandwich if google can get their act together and make android as smooth and reliable as my htc windows phone.
trust me...you will find other things to complain about once you switch. The problem I see alot is that people expected a perfect platform. I got bad news for you...there is no such thing. Not Apple, not Android, not WP.
Dude, I know how you feel.
I will be switching my WP7 in the next months. Unfortunately, it's just not the moment. I dont want iPhone 4S, I want iPhone 5. And Android just sucks.
I have no options at all ;/

Sorry, but i never said i expected a perfect platform and i believe windows phone is still the best operating system for any phone. It's the 3rd party apps that are killing it for me.
Microsoft has literally tried to bribe people to develop for them but there just doesn't seem to any interest in developing quality apps.
The core OS can only take you so far. But for what it's worth, i think wp is better than ios and android. But android seems it's better overall.
If something doesn't work you can customize it and fix it yourself.
I used to put a new energy rom on my windows mobile every time nrg came out with an update, so i have no problems putting in the effort and time it takes to tweak an OS. Unfortunately this isn't the case for 3rd party apps. Which is why android seems like a better choice for me.

This right here proves you're an idiot. You hate the OS and want to switch but will only switch if the OS you're considering switching too can be as good as your current OS. See how stupid that sounds? You come across as one of those miserable people that can have a million positives but one minor negative is the end of the world for you. You will never be happy with an OS.
It makes perfect sense if you read the complete post. I said multiple times that wp as an OS is superior but overall android seems better because of customization and 3rd party apps, but i'll have to see what they do with ice cream sandwich. I wouldn't switch to gingerbread.
What part of that are you having problem comprehending?

so you think all apps on other platforms didn't take months and came out perfect when launch...please.
You should know better you are an early adopter to a brand new platform and it will take yrs to refine the OS...just like android and iphone...who took even much longer to reach the current stage.
Yeah i definitely overestimated the brand name of Microsoft.
The only reason android and apple took so long was because times were different back then. It was a new idea and a new way of things. Now, Microsoft has had time to learn from them and should have played things differently. Mango is how the phone should have been released.
I mean, even now, most apps that come out are released for app store and market. Take any bank, or any commercial app. It's just those 2 platforms. Hell, even my local bar has an android/ios app.
There is no awareness of windows phone. It's a shame because it's such a great operating system and it has the potential to be number one.

Its been almost a year since WP7 came out. This lack of awareness was not their in case of ios and Android phones.. After an year of iPhone we HD basically all big names apps in the market ... Android was slow but at least people were aware of that os... After 1 yr noone knows what WP is.

WP got more competitions at launch than iphone & android. At launch who was iphone competitor? At launch who was Android competitor beside Iphone. With that said...I agreed MS needs to upper WP7 awareness....so far it's almost non-existent.

Haha, didn't take a year for iOS to have an app store?
Because of one apps and you blamed the whole OS.
Let's me ask you a question.
Are there any mobile OS that have better built-in Social Network support like Windows Phone? And how many Facebook users out there?
And return to the question: You know WP7 is a locked OS and you still bought it, and now you scream out loud and say it is stupid because it can't install 3rd Apps? So, look like you aren't a smart buyer.
if you want 3rd Apps so bad, why don't you register for the Developers Account, and get it unlocked so you can install custom .xap?

after i read this sentence, you are no more than a stupid guy to me.
So, let's me ask you a question, when you send a messege to a group, everyone in the group will receive the same messege. but do they know how many people (which one, what are their numbers...) that you send that messege? And Why do they have to send it back to you and x people in your group?
For an example, you have a group of 15 best friends and you decide to throw a party tonight. You texted the whole group and invite them to the party, some will say "yes", some will say "no", so, why the hell the guy said "yes" even care about the guys said "no"? And is it necessary for him to know about it?
If you want group communicate, i would suggest to visit them instead, or you can do group Skype or simple just create a group chat on PC. Why? Because everytime you send one messege to a group of x people, you have send x messege totally and believe me, if you don't use unlimited plan and you have a long season of group chat on your phone, you will not happy with your phone bill by the end of the month.
If what you said come true, there isn't necessary to have a group chat feature in Skype, Yahoo or Windows Live Messenger, which can be done for free and 100x better on PC.

so you mean you can't access Marketplace or what?
Or you don't understand the "3rd Party Apps"?
3rd Apps is the apps that developed by individual or company that is not associated with the OEM, like you can develop almost and .cab by your old Windows Mobile 6.5, and you can do the samething with Dev Unlocked Windows Phone 7.
i just switched from android to wp7. i also had iso before android. android is a cluster f**k. have fun with all the buggy force closes

It's fine to blame the OS. The Developers didn't make the OS have only 1/3rd the API support it needed to support a ton of apps on release.
Microsoft gave them the middle finger and they took it at face value. That's why they're prioritizing WP7 at such a low place right now.
Because iOS/Android sales more phones have more users. It's more advantageous for them to work on Honeycomb/ICS/iOS5 app updates then work on WP7 ports.
People on this forum can yell and scream "we need AppX" all day and all night, but when you get thousands of downloads in the Andorid/iOS App Markets per day and dozens per day in WP7 the choice is clear which one goes on the backburner.
Also, all decent Android phones from Samsung and HTC come with Social Integration. TW4 phones come with Twitter/Facebook/LinkedIn integration. Samsung did People Hub before Microsoft decided what to call it. That's nothing to rave about. It's actually kind of embarassing that they tried to market that as some sort of new and innovative feature. We've already gone over this before. Same for groups.
WP7 did do some innovative things with the way it allows you to pin sublets of Apps to the home screen, but a lot of the marketed built-in functionality already existed for years. The main selling point of the OS is the user experience, not the features.

never mind .....
Feel like I am kinda bringing up an old fire that originally was bs.
That said there is new information to support this.
There have been screen shots of a test version of bbm (Who knows if they are legit). With that in mind Research In Motion is now releasing Android into their management services. This seems to bring the reality of BBM one step closer.
The burning question would then be will it be free, a one time purchase or a monthly subscription fee.
Would you be willing to pay rim a monthly fee for bbm?
No thanks
For me if you want BBM like all the little schoolgirls out there then buy a blackberry... no offence but I much prefer whatsapp anyway, its free and extremely reliable, I see no reason why ppl would pay for BBM which is only for blackberry (as of now) when they can get great apps like whatsapp and ping chat which are on 4 OS's (Android, Blackberry, IPhone and Nokia and more than likely WP7 now Nokia has teamed up with them)

Isn't Whatsapp like a one year trial or something
I would use bbm on android. Using Whatsapp is still kinda cumbersome compared to bbm. Love my android though and wouldn't go back to blackberry
i would not use it i prefer whatsapp for free sms`s over 3g and viber for free calls over 3g
It's a 'yes' from me.
I have corporate clients who are on berry with BBM and use group chat, so I carry one just for them.
So for me a plus is that I can avoid carrying a second phone about; therefore even a paid-for BBM on Android would probably end up saving me money.
The downside is that my BB practically never goes flat, whereas I generally carry (at least) two batteries for my sensation.

I'd use BBM on my Android since a lot of my friends over sea have Blackberry's.
Oddy enough Blackberry's seem to be pretty big outside of the states. However I wouldn't pay a fee to use a BBM app.
Catfiz
my first post ... maybe you can try this one Catfiz it's like BBM, search on Google keyword "Catfiz"
Not sure I would have a use for it anymore. It's been a little while since I had my Curve, but the one thing I didn't like about BBM was that at the time I couldn't turn it off. Maybe things have changed, but with most people I know on gchat, it just one more thing to run in the background.
If someone of your friends which own a BB cannot install third party applications due to companies restrictions (this is why several companies are still using BB... cause they can control employes devices and give them access to mail servers and other stuff in a secure way for them) it will be useful to use BBM over our android devices without the needs to buy a BB only to use BBM.
At the end you can choose to use it or not.
there's a need for devices that don't have some kind of data plan and are wifi only. I wanted to use whatsapp, but can't on my xoom as I have a wifi version. Pity as it sounded good.
sooo... we're now in April of 2013, is BBM for Android any closer to reality?

The iPhone is closed and Android is open.
Well!
That's the conventional wisdom about the dueling mobile operating systems. Apple's iPhone operating system runs only on Apple's iPhone (plus the iPad and iPod), and every app must be approved by the company before it appears on the App Store. Android, which Google gives away for free, runs on dozens of phones from many different carriers, and anyone can freely upload new apps to the Android Market without approval.
But that conventional wisdom is showing a few cracks, at least on the Android side. Take the flashy new Bing app for Android, announced today by Microsoft: It's not available to all Android phone users -- only the ones that use Verizon.
Shame
I think you don understand the concept of open source.

I don know where you pick up your knowledge about the mobile industry. *facepalm*
This is clearly an app problem and has nothing to do with the OS.
Your thread should be asking about bing app and not about android.
Email to the bing app team instead of whining here
Edit: there must be a reason why it is taken down from the play store. They might be repairing some bug. And the server might be down while they are fixing it.

You don't have to tell me what is open source...even the walls know the basic concept. The thing is that Google has lost the control of android...to me a mobile OS fragmentation is bad....Onestly I don't even remember the exact number of android devices that I had in my hands ...rooted and not, with Sense or Cyanogen or even MIUI and just one iPhone4S with Jailbreak obviously....the true is that the iPhone 4S just works...it just works..how many times to I have to say it...if just was a little bit bigger would be perfect....and one more thing I have Bing also on 3 Uk carrier while with all the android devices I cannot have it anymore....shame one more time Google-android because Bing's unavailability is not the only problem...I could write a book to report all the android's problem.....Yes Ok the Widgets are nice but is not the only thing that count....the eco-system is more important than widgets believe me.

ofcourse it is open..it is linux and linux is an open source..
@francomur99 , please don't insult people by calling them to brush their own brains . You should mind your language on this forum . And , if this is about the app problem , you should make a thread about Bing and don't make the matter worse by saying is it truly open rather than talking about the app . Because this is unfortunately not what you wanted to ask right? Do not say about others first , say about yourself first . Because , mainly people like this don't tend to know what they're doing in the first place . It is an open source btw . Did that solve your question ?

bugs has nothing to do with opensource or being openly developed.
its simply means anyone can use or abuse it (like you try to say). thats the deal with open source and environment.
its like a garden open to everybody and no one takes care of it, it dies at the end and no longer will be a garden where everyone is taking care of it together. Google only cares of the OS and drastic meassures someone make a hack to dial dirty numbers or so.
if android was closed like apple, you would see only what google wanted. you would get only that app google approved and yes, you would have only google phones out and it would become a gimmick like iPhone.
and winphone and other bada operating systems would gain more market value.
your specific Verizon issue is with Microsoft and another company, not Android or Google in this case, they just gave the option to restrict distribution, the choice is the developer of the product.
Here is a great article i just read that talks about some of the major problems with android right now.

Honestly I would love to see android be just android. All phones running the same version of android. I understand that no all phones can run 4.0 but every phone that runs 2.x should run the same version of 2.x, and every phone that runs 4.0 should run the same version of 4.0.
One of the biggest takeaways i had from the article above is that with apple, you are buying into a lifestyle. Everything is integrated, and the experience is the same across ALL hardware.
Heres to hoping for the best.
I'll jump into this flame-fest......
No one uses bing. Who cares?
That fragmentation nonsense is just hilarous, and is nothing more than a person trying to laughably say they are better than someone else because they chose to use a different phone.
17 year old emo kids who hang out at the apple store all day keep shouting that. What they fail to realize is that "fragmentation" = choice. If you want that "unfragmented" same old same old android phone, it's simple....buy a nexus device. Vanilla android right out of the gate.
But if you want "fragmentation" err, excuse me, what a normal person would consider *alternative choices* you can pick up any of the dozens or android phones currently sold that have carrier and manufacturer implemented changes. Some are subtle, some are very different.
In short, you are not superior to someone else because you drive a Chevy and they drive a Ford, because you use an Android and they use Winmobile, because you have a PS3 and they have an Xbox360. There is no better, there's only what a person prefers. For them. The worst kind of person in today's society is commonly believed to be a religious zealot, going around preaching to every one else how they are wrong because they go to a different church, or they go to one at all. They believe something, so they have to try and convince the rest of the world that what they believe is superior!
No one cares. Seriously, calm down, pour the kool-aid into the sink, and listen to what you are saying.

its linux , get used to it.
Linux got as example Kde , Gnome etc.. never been a problem or fragmented, so having different frontends on mobile is just a company trend, until Google takes on the task to control the mobil interface, and then you're lost like users with iPhone, no chance of changes onless you got apples approval.

Unfortunately your comparison doesn't work. I can install kubuntu and easily remove all traces of kde and replace it with gnome...try that with touchwiz

If this discussion is going to continue, please keep the flaming/name-calling/fanboism out of it. Debating the merits of different mobile platforms will go on forever, and almost always results in the issues I just mentioned. Let's try to not let that happen here.
Your concept of open source is funny lol

Here's a question... would you purchase a blackberry just to use BBM?
If you did, how many of your friends currently have a blackberry so that BBM actually becomes useful to you.
Yes the service is highly touted but I believe that RIM has realised that they cannot truly expect to hold on to their user base simply by keeping BBM exclusive. A cross platform chat solution is currently lacking, hence the popularity of whatsapp and other apps like it.
If anything I would say they should have done this sooner, however, maybe they were waiting until the released their new OS, with the belief that it does, now, stand a fighting chance when giving people the option of acquiring BBM one iOS, Android or sticking with RIM
Really?

And what about whats app usere ehh?
We may be overlooking the fact that BBM was popular *during* the Blackberry era, when RIM was the reigning king of "smartphones". Fast forward several iPhone and Android releases, I am not so sure RIM's heralded messaging app has the same appeal as it once did. Plus, many people have found a home with other apps like Facebook Messenger, Whats App, etc already.
Side note:
Their latest device the Z10 actually looks great and felt pretty snappy when I played with a demo. Like Microsoft, I think they have an opportunity to carve out a niche following.
Yeah!

Well to tell you the truth, users change their favorites every time..!! Remember some years before how people showed their back to orkut? :victory:
And chanced their favorite social networking site to facebook..!!
So it depends on the particular content on what capable it is........if it does make a great impact (BBM) in the android family then people will definitely "MIGRATE" to the BBM.
(mr admin move if thread is in wrong place thanks)
So bbm is going cross platform hurrah since I'm a former 9300 user, I loved bbm.
But how will it work? I know the app is free, but will you have to pay monthly for it or what? Like on BlackBerry you had to pay £5 a month to get bbm, how is it gonna be on android? and I'm on a contract so how will I pay this?

Good questions - but if the app is to be at all successful, it needs wide adoption, so I wouldn't be surprised if its free at least at first.
Useless idea. Genius invention named whatsapp that does it already.

answer to your question is the no it will want to compete with whatsapp, so it will have to be free or near free i.e 0.69p.
if they charged £5 no one would pay for it. i dont see why blackberry messenger and whatsapp dont merge together, but competition is healthy.
If the app is 69p that's fine bit is there going to be a monthly charge for it. That's how it was on BBOS (the app is free, but you have to pay a monthly charge of £5)

Surprised
I'm quite surprised that you had to pay Anything to use BBM...are you sure you weren't just paying your carrier? I had a Bold 9300 for almost 2 years and definitely did not pay a cent to use BBM. After doing some further research, I have not found a single post the suggests that anyone has ever paid for the BBM service.
On another note, I'm really excited to have BBM on my Android! I've come across quite a number of ignorant users in the forums - those who have never used/tried BBM before, and those who just 'stick with what they know' and don't care about anything else. There are quite a few advantages that BBM has over Whatsapp: Here are just a few:
1) Security: All BBM messages are encrypted when sent. Whatsapp messages are sent in plaintext, making them extremely easy to hack
2) Privacy: With BBM, you can choose who you want to add as contacts (through a BB pin system). If you post a status update about your holiday or add a particular profile pic, you don't have to worry about your boss, highschool teacher, or business partner reading/seeing it. With Whatsapp, your entire phonebook immediately sees everything.
3) Stability: With the exception of the once-off server breakdown debacle last year, BBM has always been the most stable messaging platform available. It just works
4) While it still remains to be seen on the Android platform, other tests have consistently shown that BBM is far more power-friendly than the battery-guzzling Whatsapp messaging system. Similar tests have also shown that BBM is far less resource-intensive
Obviously there are more, but these are the main points
countsch power

You dont need to pay monthly its free to download and use.
The only devices that require that are legacy BB devices.
BB10 doesn't nor does Android or Ios:good:
