I've taken a few videos during off peak hours. Hitting over 52mbps and about 6MB/s sustained when downloading a well seeded private torrent. Will post them in the same channel soon.

the speed is great!

Just read the Sprint's complaint thats basically trying to negate LTE's speed supremacy at the moment. It's kind of sad and delusional.

You simply plug in your phone to a Windows box and on your phone choose "Internet Connection Mode".
The service is free, but it's still unclear to me if it will stop being free after may 15th. I know that WiFi hotspot feature will be extra but I'm not sure about the USB tether.

Really i thought the mobile wireless hotspot was the only thing free for a few months? If memory serves me correctly doing what you just did by enabling "Internet Connection Mode"you are gonna get some big charges and I wanna say that feature has a 2gig limit and they will rape you on anything over that. Wanna say it falls under an actual data plan not even a smartphone data plan=giant ripoff.
Please correct me if I am wrong I just wanted to give you a heads up before you get a nasty bill if you are going buck wild tethering it up.

AT&T New Unlimited Data Plan!.. (10238976 MB allowace)

Has anyone recently checked their AT&T account in regards to their unlimited LTE data plan?
My features are correct when checked "LTE Smartphone unlimited personal add-on", selected
Usage data usage reports 545.64 of 10238976 MB
The ? mark bubble when hovered states:
"You have the 10238976 MB data plan. When you reach your data plan limit,
an additional 1KB will be automatically added at a cost of $null.
Your Data usage is current as of 09:06:34 11/20/2011"

That is 9,999GB. Do you really think you'll go over that? Computers use numbers; I'm sure its just some sort of visual representation, while also being ridiculously large to ensure you don't surpass it.

That sucks! Denver doesn't have LTE yet, but I decided to sell my Skyrocket on eBay. Didn't want to be throttled on the LTE plan when only using HSPA+.. I average at least 5 - 6GB a month.. wasn't going to stick around and find out if I reached the top 5% on the LTE plan, when only using the slower network.
I'll wait until more coverage becomes active and reaching the top 5% is a long shot!

There's not unlimited anymore because AT&T doesn't want it around, point blank. It has very little to do with the users. It's statements such as yours that justifies their actions and allows them to slide under the radar. Don't blame your peers, blame the company gouging you for profits.

Just another win for us Nokia fanboys!! Hell, the N8 has more usable features than most of the phones out now. LTE slowing down?

So now that a substantial amount of people are on Verizon's LTE network, are people's data speeds slowing down? In August, when I got my Charge, I was getting between 15mbps to 20mbps (speedtest.net) on LTE in the Madison, WI and Milwaukee, WI areas. I just ran a few tests today and got speeds between 5mbps and 7mbps. I know this barely affects day-to-day usage (unless you download large files and torrent like I do), but I am curious as to everybody else's speeds.
Mine have slowed down slightly, but not significantly. I do notice that I will get vastly different speed-test results based on what server I'm connecting too.
my 3g plummeted to the ground my 4g whitch is 15 miles north of me i am in utah btw is down roughly between 12-14 megs a few days i saw about 16-18 but not a huge difference for me but the 3g is killing me my sprint 3g was faster whitch i thought would not be the case...
What are you doing torrenting on LTE? Where's your home Internet connection?
I use my LTE connection but I barely use 3 GB a month. Most of the time I'm under 2 GBs.
Damn... no wonder why Verizon implemented data usage caps and gone away from Unlimited Data.

I'm seeing slowdowns, but they aren't consistent. Never below 5Mbps, but normally, I'm still 12-15.
How about not doing anything illegal?
You know that the MPAA/RIAA are on their witch hunts. It's not if, but when, they will find you and believe you me, they will find you and you better have your lawyer ready.
NetFlix? Amazon.com Music Store? Android Market? All of which allows you to consume your media in a legal way without the constant threat of a DMCA notice.
Thanks a lot, you ruined it for the rest of us who liked Unlimited Data from Verizon. Now, because of people like you we have to endure capped data plans and the ever possible chance that they will take it away from even those who have the Unlimited Data plan. Thanks a lot, at least I now know the kind of people to blame for this crap.
Psst: There are legal uses for bittorrent.
Not for nothing, but for the amount of money we blow on cell phone plans we should all be allowed to tether for no additional cost with unlimited data plans. We pay a flat rate for home Internet use with no cap, ranging anywhere from 30-50 per month. Verizon/other carriers should increase capacity on their towers or put up more to accommodate the usage.

Verizon is nothing but a company. That company is free to do whatever it thinks will result in the most profit. Now what do you think will make more money, charging customers who are with Verizon because they already have the best service more, or spending money on new towers to attract a few customers in that area?
If Verizon customers want to tell them to stop jacking up the prices, they do it with their money (like what happened to netflix).
Also, i did not ask for advice; i was just curious as to others' experience. If you want to go cry about unlimited data, go to that "100+gb /month" thread or get unlimited data as per foreversupra's thread.

I just got on the Verizon network about five days ago, and I'm astounded at the speeds I get on 4g LTE.
the only thing that matches my LTE speeds is my FiOS wifi but even when used side by side the LTE usually smokes wifi... I'm pleased with the speeds and the fact that its unlimited and I'm not trying to screw myself or others out of it so I keep my data usage pretty conservative

Since we're discussing torrents, has anyone noticed their upload speed being significantly slower than what you can get in a speedtest? As in if you're uploading a torrent at 3 AM, you might get 100 kBytes/sec, but on speedtest.net you might get 8 megabits/sec.
Does anyone know what would cause that?

Wind Users and Personal hotspot?

Anyone using personal hotspot with this phone on winds unlimited data?? i have the super smart plan just wondering if they would charge us for tethering? i know this may not be teh correct forum, but highly more people from wind are here so jsut want to know i might be switching internet at home so i want to know if i can use my phone till they reconnect it thanks
from everything i've read about WIND and a plan that has unlimited data, but does not specify tethering... you CAN do it and will NOT be charged. i have the holiday miracle plan so i dont care, but from what ive read you should be okay. maybe wait for another response but im pretty certain...
I'm on WIND, they have a "tethering add-on", all it does is up your data from 5GB to 10GB, but either way you can do tethering (without the tethering add-on), assuming you have a ROM that supports it (I dunno if the stock ROM has that option).
I do tethering on WIND without the tethering add-on, no extra charges. Just know that it says "unlimited", but your data speeds will be throttled once you hit 5GB
Hey i use it all the time. I've had multiple devices connected at the same time and never had any issues from Wind.
thats sick! what speed do they throttle it at? - i usually get 2mb internet speed in my area, its nice for light gaming ;3 and if anything my sister has teh exact same plan so could just do when my 5GB are up

If I remember correctly, the customer service rep said they cut the speed by half if you go over the 5GB, but this is from a while ago so I could be wrong. Either way, I doubt their speed is good enough for online gaming, it's terrible in my area but it works, so can't really complain

Tethering

If I use this rom HyperNonSense-v2.4 is tethering free or will I have to pay for it.
It should be free up to a point. Now what tat point is is really up to your carrier. If you are T-Mobile USA it will be free as long as you do not surpass the 2 GIG or 5 GIG soft cap you have depending on your data plan. But if you go over the soft cap the will try to make you pay extra for tethering. Now as far as other carriers go I can not give you any info on them as I am not familiar with any other carrier's policy.

Yes the will throttle/ slow your internet down bit if you do it more then onscreen they will probably monitor your device and see you are tethering and then notify you that you should purchase the tethering service (which just gives you more data). Now after this notification they will probably continue to monitor your de ice and after you continue to tether they will probably hit you with a tethering fee.
But do not worry too much as I used my HD2 for months as my home internet connection and barely e Dr got close to using 2 GIGs of data. Then again though I do not have 3g or 4g service at my home either so it would have been hard for me to use so much data tethering. So my best advice is to heavily monitor your data usage and not go over. Also if you get a notification via text message or other means from T-Mobile about tethering I would hold off on tethering for a little while.
Ok thanks for the advice. How do they actually know your tethering?

[Q] How do I stop network throttling?

Hi, I'm with three's "the one plan" that includes unlimited data and tethering. I'm using this as a substitute for my home broadband, I get around 20Mb/s for the first couple of hours I tether, but after a while my speeds are greatly throttled down to around 1.5Mb/s the second I enable tethering. Is there any way I can stop the throttling? It is really furstrating, thanks. I heard that xenonHD rom has a 3g speedhack that can bypass it?
No such thing as they are just throttling you based on the amount of data you've downloaded i'm sure. So after X amount of time they slow you down. Simple as that.
What about mobile providers that don't let you torrent at all, is there any way to work around that? Because as soon as you try and download a torrent it just sits and and doesn't do anything.

That can't be the case though; if I restart my phone or toggle aeroplane mode then my speeds got back up to 20Mb/s and remain at that until I enable tethering again, then my speed drops again.

Because the provider limits your tethering speed exactly for that reason, your trying to replace something like cable Internet with mobile data which would never work.

I don't think they do limit tethering speeds, because I can get a solid 20Mb/s on tethering for the first few hours, then it gets throttled.
Get a home connection then the problem solved.

And there's your problem. Mobile Internet is meant to supplement your broadband connection, not replace it. Just imagine what would happen if everybody ditched their home cable Internet connection and relied on their cellular service provider to consume all that data with their desktop/laptop. The networks would be overloaded, no one would be able to download or upload anything. That's why cellular providers have such stringent bandwidth caps on data and especially tethering. They're just not equipped to handle all of that traffic.
I think in Kitkat tethering can be detected by the service provider if used from android tether option. Try using 3rd party apps like easy tether or clockworkmod tether

Yeah that's what I was thinking, but I couldn't fins any third parry tethering apps that were any good, I'll give them ones you mentioned a try when I get home.
The reason I'm using 3g as my home broadband is because I live in the country side where I'm paying over twice as much for 2Mb/s broadband, when I could get 20Mb/s

Not sure, but this thread appears to be pertinent.
Three's T&C's don't mention anything unless you get near 1000GB a month...

I'd speak to them and ask them what's going on

I spoke to three technical support on the phone and he said I'm not being throttled and there is no fault with the network he also said that "three do not throttle the speed of any users". So I don't know what the issue is, I'm running cataclysm ROM and elemental x kernel, do you think this has anything to do with it?
Stock has the throttle thing in data usage.

Do you mean the "set mobile data limit"? If so i've always had that turned off. If you didn't mean that please could you elaborate?
I flashed my nexus back to stock image a couple of days ago but this hasn't fixed anything, still pulling my hair out here!
Yeah, the "set mobile data limit".
