Wind Users and Personal hotspot? - T-Mobile LG G2x

Anyone using personal hotspot with this phone on winds unlimited data?? i have the super smart plan just wondering if they would charge us for tethering? i know this may not be teh correct forum, but highly more people from wind are here so jsut want to know i might be switching internet at home so i want to know if i can use my phone till they reconnect it thanks

from everything i've read about WIND and a plan that has unlimited data, but does not specify tethering... you CAN do it and will NOT be charged. i have the holiday miracle plan so i dont care, but from what ive read you should be okay. maybe wait for another response but im pretty certain...

I'm on WIND, they have a "tethering add-on", all it does is up your data from 5GB to 10GB, but either way you can do tethering (without the tethering add-on), assuming you have a ROM that supports it (I dunno if the stock ROM has that option).
I do tethering on WIND without the tethering add-on, no extra charges. Just know that it says "unlimited", but your data speeds will be throttled once you hit 5GB

Hey i use it all the time. I've had multiple devices connected at the same time and never had any issues from Wind.

thats sick! what speed do they throttle it at? - i usually get 2mb internet speed in my area, its nice for light gaming ;3 and if anything my sister has teh exact same plan so could just do when my 5GB are up

If I remember correctly, the customer service rep said they cut the speed by half if you go over the 5GB, but this is from a while ago so I could be wrong. Either way, I doubt their speed is good enough for online gaming, it's terrible in my area but it works, so can't really complain

haha thats true, its 2mbs though and when iw as at eglinton stn i got around 6mbs/ so im thinking even if they cut it in half ill still browse normally which isnt bad and might be able to handle CSS? xD

Yup, increase coverage and speeds, lower the data cap in half, and use up your data in half the time! I think if I did the math right, I can cap out 5gigs in about 9hours of watching netflix via my playon app alone; which is about 20min a day for a given 30 day month. They should of kept the 10gig at least, considering EVERYTHING this phone does practically uses the internet.
Wow, I didn't know they did that. I thought I used mine a lot, but I just checked and I only use about 500-600 MB a month, lol

Yep, my wife and I have both been throttled and have unlimited. I hate TMO and can't wait to go to Sprint for real unlimited.
I never get close to this.. dont you have real internet, like 99.9% of the world, I believe even remote parts of Africa have internet.. you really dont need to tether your phone for everything.
wow wtf are you guys doing with your phones? tethering to your PC and broadcasting 1080p video on ustream?? My next billing cycle starts in 5 days and I've only used 250mb (I'm in a 4G area). I use my data A LOT too - youtube, surfing the web, market downloads, facebook, twitter, etc. I use an app called Line2 for my incoming/outgoing calls and text msgs which relys on my data and I still don't get close to 1GB.
I will tell you how I consume 5GB quickly.
I am an independent IT consultant where my clients don't allow access to their network with my machine. Therefore, I am tethered 12hrs every business day. Syncing a 3gb IMAP mailbox all day is a lot of data alone!
I consume 1GB every 3 working days.

Then you should have the common sense to have a better internet solution than tethering.
I've never run into the data cap, not because I don't use my data, but because I'm actually wise about it and don't carelessly burn bandwidth. Use Wifi when available, don't try to consume as much data as you can.
How many of these threads do we need about how the OP didn't bother to check usage or ***** about data throttling?

Hey, we have no data limits at sprint..
Except you'll be lucky to see more than 300 kbps in most areas during the day with 3g, and ~2-5 Mbps on 4g. We have people in the evo forum *****ing about the extremely slow network, ready to jump ship to vz or elsewhere.
I've come to the conclusion there is no ideal solution. Each provider is a compromise of different elements such as price, service, data, features, etc.
Common Sense? I was answering a question as to how one can get the to 5gb limit, period.
Common sense says Tmobile should have told me about the 5gb threshold when I agreed to a contract, and fine print is not acceptable.

Common Sense? You are expecting a Corporation sales person to be honest with you? They are interested in one thing and that is selling a product. They don't care if you get screwed in the end. They will just take your $200 ETF when you find out how much they lied to you... Well didn't disclose the TRUTH to you and you move on to the next corporation that does it to you in another way. That's what business has come to in America.
A warning would have been nice around 4gigs. TBH, if you say you use the web all the time and only have 4-500megs usage your lying. My biggest data drain went into streaming TV and music from my home server. I was unaware t-mobile even had a limit until i got the message saying I was cut off, because when i had my BB i would usually only average about 20megs a month usage. Hell, I ALMOST went with a 200meg connection, but didn't want to feel restricted so I went with unlimited.
These phones are beast, as they should be with a 4+meg connection! It just doesn't seem fair to offer us all these gadgets and offer us their TV packages and crap then take it away just barely into the month because we actually use what they advertised to sell the product!

On average my apps have been between 2-3megs each...
So at ~87 custom apps, that I have actually kept and not just downloaded to try, at 2.5megs each that's 217.5megs; a total which almost meets your usage so far alone.
Well, I'm in my first month with TMO and already got my 5GB notice. Isn't it nice. I get a ripping 20 KB/SEC on my best download but, usually around 10 to 12KB/SEC on AMERICAS LARGEST 4G NETWORK. That happened right in the middle of a SW update and their CRAPPY network could not even handle a text message and the download at the same time. They cut me down to 5KB/SEC and it took close to 2 hrs to DL 50MB. What a deal they are giving us. The big problem is the only company that I have ever been happy with is no longer doing business in my area. Lots to look forward to.

You simply plug in your phone to a Windows box and on your phone choose "Internet Connection Mode".
The service is free, but it's still unclear to me if it will stop being free after may 15th. I know that WiFi hotspot feature will be extra but I'm not sure about the USB tether.
Really i thought the mobile wireless hotspot was the only thing free for a few months? If memory serves me correctly doing what you just did by enabling "Internet Connection Mode"you are gonna get some big charges and I wanna say that feature has a 2gig limit and they will rape you on anything over that. Wanna say it falls under an actual data plan not even a smartphone data plan=giant ripoff.
Please correct me if I am wrong I just wanted to give you a heads up before you get a nasty bill if you are going buck wild tethering it up.

Technically it's not a lie. They do not limit the maximum amount of data you can use via the HSPA towers. However after 5Gb of data they throttle you back, as the person above me mentioned.
But it's not a lie, not a false advertising move, but it is very shady IMHO.

There is nothing you can do as they throttle you because technically they can and will sharp you traffic for heavy usage. As we discussed this long ago since 2004 we do have the technology in place to determine what you use your service based on the SPI/DPI capabilities on the server. At this point they just have QoS based policy in place which just changes your provision rate. Be thankful they are not disabling any service based on the user agent or injecting data stream on the transport layer.

i believe it was in the data/system folder (use root explorer, or the like).
You do understand that the soft-cap that is placed under account is throttling the provision rate of users from the server itself. As the data is not allocated in your device which would be subjected to alteration. Unless you mean a dir was created after you were placed on 128kbps.
A friend recommended it to me, is it a waste of time ?

I tested it back in 5-6months ago as I downloaded like 2.1-2.2gb porno on and applied it and it worked.

But someone that jumps from not even a gig to over 5 all of a sudden might raise a few eyebrows.

If you don't have the unlimited data plan, I wouldn't recommend using it. I used it and SIGNIFICANTLY went over my data plan cap and was billed overage charges.
I got busted with AT&T using an iPhone... convinced them I had no idea what tethering was or jailbreaking, etc so they let me keep my unlimited plan. Even let me switch it when I got an Inspire after telling me I needed a "4G data plan", even though they don't have 4G... morons. Anyways, I think I'll try it on here. Don't count on 10 gigs as a soft limit. Companies are working towards eliminating unlimited plans, and eliminating the one in a <many many> stray customers who hog bandwidth hardly make any difference.
in my town AT&T sucks, coverage is completely spotty, we just got 3G about 2 weeks ago and the coverage is unbearable, in my house i get no service at all but when i go in the middle of town it will jump between 5 bars with 3G to 1-2 bars with edge constantly but when ever i go to a city with good 3G im tethering to my mac constantly and my data never goes over 1.5 GB even though i have the unlimited plan
I used WiFi Hotspot once when my home landline internet was on the fritz for a few hours. It was a nice backup.

I get ur point. But u know I've seen many posts here in some threads where I saw people bragging that they used way excess of 10GB and even as a replacement to home internet service. I was only indicating that as long as one doesn't abuse the network, he/she should be good. Sorry if what I said sounded differently than what I had in mind.

Is there any way to do something to our phones to block throttling?

Seems to me like something would have to be pushed to our phones for us to be successfully throttled? I remember when I had the G2x there was a thread on flashing something that would prevent your phone from being throttled

At&t plan is Unlimited (if you have been grandfathered in - like me :-D)
You will have it running on 3G/4G speeds up to 3GB of usage.... After 3GB you will be throttled down to EDGE speeds... but it will still be unlimited, you will not be charged any extra!

Umm, I know this. I have unlimited too, but how stupid is it that we're throttled at 3gb when they have a non throttled plan at 5gb for $50? They just want us to pay more... so I want my unlimited plan to not be throttled, and was hoping there was something we could do on our end. I bet there is and I know someone will come up with something
