MetroPCS Latest PRLs Repository - EVO 4G Android Development

Well, as some of you know, I have my EVO on MetroPCS and have been with them (on and off) for a few years now. When I took my EVO over to Metro late last year, the PRL that was flashed onto my device by the rep was 02004, which is the same one that I had on my Vogue back almost 3 years ago . MetroPCS has since grown quite a bit, and it shocked me to see that not even doing *228 would flash anything later than this one.
So, as Google is always a good friend, I decided to search for a bit and found a site that contained the following PRLs:
http://www.idriss.us/tag/prl/
* 02004 (duh!)
* 03010 (extracted from Blackberry 8530)
* 03014 (extracted from Samsung Craft)
* 03015 (extracted from ???)
* 03017 (extracted from ???)
At this point in time, I am on 03017 and everything seems to be working properly. I have not tested 1x speeds just yet, but will shortly and report what I get. Hopefully, it gets better speeds than our beloved 02004.
To flash them in Sense roms:
On your phone keypad, dial ##PRL# (no need to press Send). This will ask you for your MSL (Master Subsidy Lock), which you can easily obtain by installing MSL grabber from the Market (free App). Now, if you are on Metro, your MSL is likely 000000, but just to be on the safe side, use MSL. Once you get past this, you will be prompted with a menu called "PRL", click on it and you will be taken to a "browse" screen, where you will tell your device the location of the PRL you are flashing. Select it, go back, press "Menu" and finally "Commit changes". The phone will reboot by itself and you will have the new PRL upon startup.
Enjoy

Soon-to-be TP2 owner questions

Hi
I am new here and will soon be getting my Telus HTC TP2 and unlocking it myself via mobileincanada.com i had a couple of questions:
will i have any trouble unlocking?
i am buying it used so do i have to clear the ESN before i can use it? or what should i know about the ESN?
can i install the apps, .cab files found in the other section? or do i have to find CDMA only apps? Do apps work for both GSM and CDMA?
can i reset to factory defaults from settings to eliminate the previous owners info and data? or is there a button key combination?
is there a way to make Opera the default browser on the Internet tab?
is there a way to apply a diferent theme without installing a different ROM (since i've read we cannot do that yet for CDMA)?
is there anything else i should know as a new owner/user?
this is all i can think of for the moment. any and all help is much appreciated
thanks!
1) CDMA TP2's cannot be unlocked as of yet, I know that the community is working diligently on it.
2)You can't "clear" the ESN, it's the electronic serial number unique to each phone, it's kinda strange that you're able to find one used already, what you should check to see is if the phone was reported stolen, so basically you need to call your carrier and check to see if you will be able to activate that phone on their network.
Here's a relate post on another forum (mostly regarding a sprint phone but same idea)
http://cellphoneforums.net/sprint-pcs/t224073-how-clear-sprint-esn.html
3)You can install just about any app you want as long as it's compatible or signed *scratches head* I think there's a tweak cab file on ppc geeks that enables unsigned apps here:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=78019
4)Yes, not sure what the button combo is for sprint but for my verizon tp2 it's
-make sure the phone is OFF
-hold the "volume down" (the button on the side with the "-" on it) AND the send key (green button)
-While holding said buttons, press the power on button (red button) and follow the onscreen prompts.
5)It already is.
6)You can always disable Touch Flo 3D from the Today options or even install SPB Mobile Shell (I think that's what it's called) for a different theme, but if you're just talking about normal windows mobile 6.1 today themes, just disable Touch Flo 3D from the today menu in your options screen (All settings) and install themes you normally would as with any other version of WinMo 6.1
7) Phone works best with a good data plan and just like any other windows mobile device, expect to do a soft-reset every other day. And be ready for people asking you if you got a new type of iphone or that IS an iphone or if your phone has anything to do with the iphone.
thanks for your quick reply however i do know for a fact that TELUS TP2's can be unlocked i just happened to come across one person who had difficulty. that's why i was asking.
actually here this is the people that do the unlocking and they have a video on there. if you pause at the right time you can see the IMEI which is strange to me since i though CDMA phones were supposed to have ESN.
Click here for the site that unlocks the TELUS TP2 and the video where you can see the IMEI and unlocking demonstration. its a youtube video but make sure you have the plugins or use an appropriate browser or something because i couldnt see it on IE but i could with Chrome.
actually looking at the video again there are 4 numbers titled:
IMEI
WEID (first letter a little hard to make out)
S/N (is this the ESN?)
P/N
im attaching a screenshot.
Hi subby! I think what's tripping people up is your use of the word "unlock".
From the article you posted, the summary states: "You can see how to enter the unlock code to unlock GSM on the Telus HTC Touch Pro 2 Worldwide Edition." This is talking about unlocking GSM.---
---When people in this forum talk about 'unlocking', they're referring to the ability to load a different Hard SPL, so that they can install WM 6.5 on the phone. These are two completely different uses of the word "unlock."
I'm not sure which one you meant in your original post, but the TP2 does NOT have a HSPL released for it. So, you're stuck with WM6.1 (until HTC releases WM 6.5 in a few days)
The phone's great, however. I'd def. recommend.

Can't Unlock Phone - Using Official Dev Account - RESOLVED

Ok, now I'm going into my third day with this phone, and I'm really struggling to find a way that it has made me happy. I mean, yeah, I like the OS and all, but Sprint still hasn't gotten back to me on whether they're going to send me a free Airave (I spend half the time in my home roaming). I had to reset the device yesterday to get it to connect to Marketplace - even though my account has never said anything but US (last time I left the country was in the Navy 21 years ago) - and even though I could connect to marketplace on Zune software, my phone wouldn't connect to it. Now I've got that working, by resetting the phone.
Now I can't get the phone unlocked. My developer account has been approved, identity verified, and the next step in my process is unlock my phone. I have tried all the tricks I've found so far: start phone, unlock the lock screen, turned off a bunch of services on my PC (like SQL, IIS, and more), reset my phone again, touch marketplace on the phone while connected so it says "connected" on the screen... Between all this and the lousy reception I get at home, I'm ready to just chuck this thing back at Sprint and say, "Thanks, but no thanks." The one thing keeping me from doing that is that Verizon is going to get the Trophy, and I want a phone with a keyboard. I've had keyboards on all my WinMo phones, and don't plan to stop now. I just wish this phone was available on VZW. I'm going to stick it out as long as I can, but iff I don't have an improved experience by day 28, Sprint gets it back... </rant>
Ok... Have I missed any other steps in getting this phone to connect to the Developer Phone Registration tool?
Have you tried following the directions here:
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Fo...s/thread/bfa70370-4926-4086-ad0e-febe716b8bf0
Yes, many times.... I never get past step 4.
Someone just told me an another thread that you have to be verfied through GeoTrust and to do that you must first create and submit an app that you have developed.
After you submit the app, supposedly GeoTrust will contact you via email and have you verify some personal information.
Make a fake app. That's all you have to do. Make one, then submit it. This will generate a claim number with GeoTrust. Trust me, I had to do this myself...
Have you got your certificate from msdn yet it takes a couple of days, once you get your certificate your account will be unloced

I just finished this. Hopefully by monday all will be well
My account has already cleared GeoTrust, and the next step is to unlock my phone. I'm not a student, but it wouldn't matter - I can't get that far. The reg tool doesn't even detect my phone.
If you're getting the dreaded "Check that the Zune software is running blah blah blah" message, this one is a PITA to deal with. From what I've seen poking around on the interwebs, it's hitting a good number of people. It happened to me too.
I have 2 systems that are identical hardware wise, and running 64 bit OSes.
I have 1 machine running a 32 bit OS (it's a much older system).
I was finally able to unlock the phone without any issues at all on the 32 bit system (after swapping out my phone and nearly a week of struggling with it) the very first time I tried.
I'm loving the phone, especially with it being unlocked, but it was a fight until I tried it on that last machine.
Poke Microsoft about it. The more they hear about it and the more information they get about it the faster they'll be able to fix it (that assumes the problem is even on their end).
I've heard using a USB hub (or if you're already using one then NOT using it) has helped some people. *shrug*
Thanks for all the suggestions - I appreciate them. I have yet to get my phone to get past the check zune... blah blah blah error, with the exception of one time. Here's what I did...
I reset my phone, got past the intro, added my live account, hooked it to the computer, let it sync with Zune (I had deleted the phone's proflie), opened the reg tool, and it found the phone. I entered my login info, and got the dreaded 0x64 error having to do with time on the phone.
Several posts I found had to do with people getting past this by using a different internet connection and finding success. Well, I have a rather odd internet connection going on. I live right behind my church, just beyond wireless range from the pastor's router. So here's what I have:
Scientific Atlanta DSL modem/router combo - pastor's connection
Buffalo high powered router running DD-WRT sitting on the platform (closest part of the building to my house), repeating the pastor's signal.
Buffalo high powered router running DD-WRT sitting in my computer room, repeating wireless to my house, and serving as wired router to the server and the HTPC.
Pastor's is 192.168.1.1, the one on the platform is 192.168.2.1, and the one in my house is 192.168.3.1, so they are all separate networks, each using the one upstream of it as a gateway.
So, given my success connecting to the phone, I walked over to church, phone still connected to the computer, connected to the pastor's router, and by this point in time, I can no longer connect to the phone.
I suspect that there is some update that Sprint is pushing that causes this problem, so I repeated the process several times, each time deleting the Zune profile, resetting the phone, going through enough of the startup to get to the settings, and putting it in airplane mode, then connecting in the specified order, allowing the new profile to be created, and still failing to connect to the phone from the reg tool.
Over on the App Hub forums, there are several of us with this problem, and a Microsoft team member said that they believe that it is something specific about the Sprint Arrive, and they are looking into it.
My main gripe about this whole thing is that since Sprint is a latecomer to the game, all the posts I'm finding about this are like six months old. Many people have overcome this problem, so you'd think that Microsoft would have figured out the problem by now, and fixed it.
I hope to get this figured out soon, as I am presently unemployed, and spent my $99 to join the App Hub, hoping to make a bit of money there until I get a job. I'm working on something, but until my phone is unlocked, I can't put my confidence in testing solely with the emulator.
Thanks for the tips guys. I do appreciate it.
I've heard really good things about the HTC arrive, I hope it works out for you. Who knows, it could be something NoDo related (because to the best of my knowledge those phones come with NoDo stocked on). I kinda hope it is, it would take the sting out of the fact that so many of us can't our hands on that update! haha ;-)
Yes, it does come with NoDo. It's interesting, takes a bit of getting used to, but it seems to work well. I love the phone. It feels more solid than my TP2. The only thing is that I wish the screen tilt wasn't spring-loaded. I got used to not using it most of the time on my TP2, so it's taking some getting used to on here.
Oh, frustration of all frustrations! I just grabbed my wife's phone and tried it for kicks. It took me all of 15 seconds to unlock her Sprint Arrive. So I know the problem isn't my computer. WHY WON'T MY PHONE WORK?????
(oh, and if it makes any difference, she's installed WAY more apps than I have)
did you try going to msdn?
My MSDN subscription has expired, but I have posted on App Hub forums. MS thinks it is something specific to the Sprint Arrive, but who knows?
If anyone else has had this problem, there is an official workaround posted on AppHub, but for those who don't have access to that forum, here's the copy/paste:
Re: Cannot register developer phone (HTC Arrive)
Reply Quote
Hi Folks,
There is now an understood issue with respect to the HTC Arrive that may be the cause of your problem. It can affect both developer unlock as well as the ability to update the phone. A KB article is in the works but here is the gist of it for developers having trouble unlocking the phone:
Windows Phone 7 Developer Unlock Tool cannot detect the HTC Arrive Phone
Abstract:
This article applies to developers of Windows Phone 7 applications who are testing their application using the Sprint HTC Arrive, model number PC93100, OS build 7389 or 7390. Developers may find that they are unable to unlock the Sprint HTC Arrive phone using the Windows Phone Developer Unlock Tool, for the purpose of deploying their applications to the phone for testing. This article offers a remedy.
Symptoms
The developer completes these steps to register the phone:
1. Registers through the App Hub as per the steps described in the App Hub registration walkthrough here.
2. Downloads and successfully install the latest version of the Windows Phone Developer Tools.
3. Owns an activated Sprint Arrive in which they personalize their settings (including date and time, and selecting a language).
4. Registers the Sprint Arrive with the same Live account they used in the app hub registration.
Next, the developer follows these steps for Developer specific registration:
5. Connects the Sprint Arrive to the developer's PC with the USB cable included with their device.
6. Ensures that the Zune software is running/open.
7. Launches the Windows Phone Developer Registration Tool.
8. The registration tool ultimately fails to detect the phone upon launch, reporting the following message:
"Unable to connect to phone. Please check that the Zune software is running and that the Zune's sync partnership with your phone has been established."
Cause
This occurs due to a specific state setting in the HTC Arrive that results in the phone not being able to make a desktop passthrough connection. This state condition can be mitigated by following the steps below.
Resolution
Use the following workaround.
1. If connected, unplug the phone device from the computer.
On the phone device:
2. Press the Windows button.
3. Press the right arrow button (on the top right of the screen) or swipe from right to left to expose the application list
4. Scroll to and select “Settings”.
5. Scroll to and select “Cellular”.
6. Select “Change Network Profile” and wait for this operation to complete (<-- this is a key step; you don't need to actually change it).
7. Press the Back or Windows key to exit the “Settings” menu.
After completing the above steps, follow through with the registration process:
8. Connect the Sprint Arrive to the development PC with the USB cable included with the phone device.
9. Launch the Windows Phone Developer Registration Tool (Zune software must be running).
10. The window titled "Windows Phone Developer Registration" appears which establishes a connection to the phone device and the following status message: "Status: Phone ready. Please enter your Windows Live ID and password and click Register to begin".
11. Enter the App Hub registered Windows Live ID and password, and then press the "Register" button.
12. The following status message appears in the window:
Status: Your phone has successfully been registered.

Thank you hopmedic that fixed it for me
this was driving me nuts and the info here solved it thanks
Thanks it worked.
Done the workaround, but nothing for me, still have the 0x64 error.
My phone was relocked after one year of AppHub. But now I can't unlock it again..
Also tried to deelete the phone in the device list on my account and use a proxy VPN network. I'm ttired of this. :/

[Q] OTA 1.63.xxxx upgrade only on T-Mo network?

So I've read here about people doing upgrades to 1.63.xxxx stock ROM, but whenever I run HTC update I'm told there are no updates :/
Do you have to be on T-Mobile network for OTA update/upgrade to work or what?
Sorry to tell you this but u have missed the update. I don't know no other way to get it but your not missing nothing. Hell I'm not even using the stock launcher so yea.

For the OTA, yes, you would have needed to be on T-Mobile. However, there are pure stock 1.63.531.2 as well as "tweaked/optimised/debloated" versions of that ROM now available here to download and install, if you're rooted.
I am running the MikTouch 0.7 ROM, which is an optimized version of the stock 1.63.531.2 ROM. It is fast, clean, everything works as it is supposed to work without any weirdness.
Thx for replies.
I can't get "MikTouch" or any other ROMs because I haven't "rooted" my phone yet. I never do anything if I don't fully understand "what it does", and since nobody have answered my questions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1659952 -
and being new to Android and to this phone - I only did what I did understand... so my phone is unlocked but not rooted yet (and still with s-on).
What I did to get OTA update:
- I removed my SIM card
- I removed my microSD card
- Shutdown the phone.
Then I charged my phone and removed battery for few seconds when it was full, and inserted the battery and microSD card back (also I moved everything off the card and formatted on my computer before I inserted it back).
- Entered hboot menu (volume down + power button)
- Selected Factory Reset
After phone rebooted and started up it asked me to setup gmail account- I wanted to follow this "setup wizard", but without SIM card there was no data connection and it seems impossible to finish it without logging-in to gmail first (? it seems that way?) so I just cancel it and I setup my home wi-fi connection, and once I saw wi-fi working I restarted the phone.
"Setup wizard" started again after reboot and this time I finish setting up my gmail account.
- Then I had notification about HTC update available. I run it, and after it rebooted itself 2 times (maybe 3 times, I didn't stare at it all the time) it wiped out everything (I think) because it started with "setup wizard" again, so I knew it must have updated the ROM. I went to my phone's About Phone -> Software number and sure it is version "1.63.531.2.710RD" now
I have hard reset it again ("factory reset") and am using it since morning.
There are few changes I have noticed so far.
edit: Main difference I have noticed so far: "Visual Voicemail" somewhat partially work with my provider (Wind does NOt have visual voicemail). By partially I mean that now when I have new voicemail I also have another notification as if it came from the person who left the voicemail, saying for example "(number) I have left you a voicemail (length of the message). Press 00021 to listen to the message or go to voicemail" or something like this. When I touched the clickable "00021" it went straight to this message in my voicemail - nice! - even though Wind Mobile doesn't have Visual Voicemail, so I guess it is some general GSM networks option I didn't knew about. Anyways, with previous software I never had such message or notification, phone simply showed usual Voicemail icon and notification only.

If you are "unlocked", you could easily flash CWM Recovery and other ROMS, it just requires an extra step since you are still S-On (flashing the boot.img through fastboot). Also, being unlocked means you can also easily root with just a simple flash. So, you could flash the MikTouch ROM and enjoy the same 1.63.531.2 level of service but in a more optimized and tweaked manner, that is also rooted.
But, if you're happy the way you are, then, "if it isn't broken, don't fix it".
Yes the MikTouch seems like the one I would love to try. I always prefer "minimal ROMs", because if I like the ROM I usually keep it forever and I don't want any obsolete app's "junk bytes" taking space inside the ROM image.
The stock 1.45.x and 1.65.x ROMs seem actually usable, but even though T-Mobile have crapped them with much less garbage (than what I usually saw in their Windows Mobile ROMs), there are still many "apps" I would like to get rid of. So yes, I would want to root my phone at least for "debloating" purpose.
Unfortunately most of knowledge and instructions here always assume the reader already knows more than "basics" about Android. But what is obvious to the devs actually often confuse noobs to Android like myself... That's why I'm still "stuck" unrooted yet.
For example:
You said "easily flash CWM Recovery" - OK, but what are the exact steps? (I have already asked this here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1659952 ) Not to mention I still don't know which recovery I should actually go with (CWM or "Stock") and why...

Since you are S-On Unlocked, you could flash CWM Recovery (version 5.0.2.7). That gives you much more capability, like doing a nandroid backup/restore. You would do that using flashboot. Obtain the correct recovery.img, do fastboot flash recovery recovery.img and then you're ready. From then on you can boot into HBOOT, choose Recovery and then flash ROMs or other packages, including the SU (for rooting). The Miktouch ROM is already rooted, so all you would need is to flash CWM, then the ROM. Since it is still Sense, as soon as I signed in with Google, it automatically synced all my apps and contacts, which is a nice bonus.

Samsung Stratosphere 2 - Verizon

Hello,
I want to buy Samsung Stratosphere 2 SCH-i415 from someone who got it from Verizon.
I don't live in US and I want to use it in other country. If I unlock it - can I use it with any mobile carrier?
Thanks
Hey, was looking around the forum for something else and stumbled onto this thread.
Maybe you've already solved this, but here's the answer is anyone else are looking;
First off, if the phone has been activated first time with a verizon sim card in the US already, it should be unlocked and ready for calling and sms. Verizon doesn't sim lock the phone, only lock APN's for GPRS/3G traffic (solution for that below)
Just bought this phone off ebay, got it to Norway and set about using it with a norwegian sim card.
First thing I needed to do was bypass the verizon setup wizard, as it just kept saying "non-verizon sim" and asking me to reboot.
The solution for this was remarkably simple, http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=36lfn9sBo70
"1. Make sure you are on the select language screen.
2. Tap bottom left, Tap bottom right, Tap bottom left, Tap bottom right, Press Volume Up Key in that exact same order. Watch video if you are confused.
3. All Done. "
Next is rooting, need to do this for the next steps;
Depending on what software you have (4.0.4 or 4.1.2), grab the system image from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2078615 (page 8 for 4.0.4, page 7 for 4.1.2)
Then we want to remove the annoying "non-verizon sim" notification;
Use Titanium Backup pro to freeze the app called "Setup Wizard 1.0" (the one with verizon logo on it, not the version 1.3 one)
Job done. Now you can freely use any sim card anywhere for calling and sms (afaik)
For GPRS/3G traffic you will need to add your APN settings, but Verizon has locked this menu, so we need another way in.
I used "APN Manager Pro" to add my carriers APN data, the app found it in the database and did everything for me.
There are probably other, free ways to do this (editing apn xml file manually and so on) but I found this app well worth the few bucks they charge for it.
If you want to do it manually there are some other guides around here, and googling will get you some hints too.
The only problem I have left now is trying to get mine updated to Jelly Bean, as Verizon only uses OTA update, and won't let me do it from Norway with a non-verizon sim card, but I have faith we will find a solution for this too.
Otherwise a great phone for the full-qwerty addicts out there :good:
Hey I in sweden using a swedish sim card and I got the gprs/3g to work somehow without rooting. I managed to upgrade the firmware via wifi, and I think that opened the apn settings. but my main question is if its possible to open the 4G cause it only has gprs/3G now. and I wonder if u also just get gprs/3g or do get 4g also?
It can't be this easy can it?

Next is rooting, need to do this for the next steps;
Depending on what software you have (4.0.4 or 4.1.2), grab the system image from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2078615 (page 8 for 4.0.4, page 7 for 4.1.2)
Then we want to remove the annoying "non-verizon sim" notification;

Great thanks! I will be testing this out later today. I hope it works!
confirmation
hey guys,
i can confirm i got this working on china mobile with some changes.
didnt find a database option in apn manager. i found the manual data here: (pm for link. not enough posts to make links apparently)
also found in order to get apn manager to save a new apn i needed to make it a system app with titanium.
also found, you dont need apn manager at all. if you go to settings ->more settings->mobile networks->access point names and then hit the "menue" button (three vertical dots at the bottom right of the phone), you get an option to add access point. fill out your info, and hit that button again, and you will see an option to save.
hope that helps someone else.
Look at the thread [Q] Rooting the Samsung Stratosphere II? (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2078615&page=27) at page 27 post #262 how to get a rooted image of MF1.
And in the same thread at page 31 post #305 how to get a rooted image of MJ2 which is currently (feb 2014) the latest ROM version for Stratosphere II.
Thanks to kado01 for his work.
I has been confirmed that the Stratosphere II can be rooted by the saferoot method.
Look in the above link at page 26 post #257.
Since version MF1 you can easily access the APN settings. So, no need to install any APN manager.
I have simply added the APN settings for my network provider manually and it works great.
And finally please take a look at the above thread at page 31 post #308 and the following to help kado01 get an unbrick file for his problem?
I can't do it because I am unable to upgrade my phone to MJ2 with the MJ2 bootloader because I don't live in the US and my phone is not activated on Verizons network. I can only install kado01's MJ2 rooted image.
Thanks.
Add new APN possible
How to add apn to verizon samasung galaxy stratosphere 2 i415 (Root required)
(I found this from some forum while I was searching for how to add APN for my brothers Verizon S3. It worked 100%. All credits go to the guy who posted it there. I didn't remember the address. And sorry for my bad english.)
Go to market install BuildProp Editor
Once installed find and open Build Prop Editor
Hit the menu button and select Edit
Scroll to the bottom of screen and add the following lines
ril.sales_code=LOL
ro.csc.sales_code=LOL
Hit the save button at the top right hand corner of the screen(looks like a disk)
Once this is done saving restart the phone
After restarting go to Settings>More Settings>Mobile Networks>Access Point Names>Menu Button>+ New APN
Add desired carriers APN info, when finished hit menu button and save
Power down and change to your desired SIM card if you hadn't already done so
Power back on and go to Settings>More Settings>Mobile Networks> Access Point Names (if done properly you should see the APN data you entered for your respective carrier).
Select the respective APN listing and then you should have working data
Congrats you can now natively add in any APN desired.

Boost Mobile LG Tribute 5 LS675 & LG G Stylo LS770 SIM Unlock

When I first got this phone back in March I bricked it the next day playing around with it. @petermg posted the firmwares for this device on July 24th. Luckily I kept it. Big thanks to him for sharing them.
This method also works on the Boost Mobile LG G Stylo LS770 which I have tested on AT&T, also.
Downloaded the files from the Sprint LG G3 SIM Unlock guide.
You will need:
a rooted device
Shortcut Master lite (in the Play Store)
Root Browser (in the Play Store)
files in attachment
1. Go to Settings/About Phone/Software Info and hit build number 7 times to enable Developer Options
2. Go to Developer Options and make sure Enable OEM Unlock and USB Debugging is checked.
3. Root with Kingroot
4. Download Root Browser from the Play Store
5. Open Root Browser, go to /carrier/apps and delete everything in it.
6. Copy the files from the attachment below to the same folder /carrier/apps. Make sure the permissions are set correctly. 'node.db' needs to be set at rw-rw 0660, 'node.db-journal' needs to be set at rw 0600. You can use Root Browser. I had no issues.
7. Now to go /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases and delete everything in it.
Now would be a good time to go to Settings/Mobile Networks/Network Mode/ and put it on GSM/UMTS
8. Power Down phone, put in your GSM SIM card, and boot on up.
9. Open up Shortcut Master lite and do a search for 'apn' without the quotes. We are looking for one that says Hidden Menu com.lge.hiddenmenu.ModemProtocol.ApnSettings. I attached a pic. Once you select it, you will need to hold down the recent windows button and choose New APN, or just select the one already there from Sprint/Boost and edit it. Your choice...
Once you are done adding/editing APN, don't forget to hit the recent window button again to save APN. If you just hit the back button, you will have to redo it. Once saved, then make sure it is selected. Your data should show up.
Things to keep in mind:
You might not get LTE. Sprint has different bands/frequencies than GSM.
You will get HSPA & HSPA+. I did a speed test on AT&T Go Phone SIM and was getting 12mbps easily.
I did a ##72786# BEFORE I did these steps. Every reboot it tries to do a Hands Free Activation. It doesn't mess nothing up, but just annoying. Also I get a message saying 'can't complete init setup due to GSM network' You can ignore that also. Also, since my device wasn't activated first, my hotspot options disappeared. I haven't found a way to put it back yet.
Signal Meter only shows 3G, but Settings/Status shows HSPA or HSPAP (+) (see screenshots)
I think the SIM card you are going to use has to be active? I tried a T-mobile SIM and didn't get no signal. My AT&T SIM was. Let us know, please.
To undo what we just did, just dial ##72786# in dialer. My Tribute 5 is bad ESN for Boost Mobile, so I can't activate it to get rid of the HFA or get the hotspot feature back. I'm sure someone here will figure it out.
I did do an extra step with Shortcut Master, but I don't think it is required. Its just another way to set the Network Mode to GSM/WCDMA/ when Boost Mobile actually gives us the option without leaving it out. Since it is a 'Global' Phone
Post your screenshots of some Speed Tests. Lets see what this phone is capable of.

Boost Mobile lg LS675
Hi, I have the exact same phone.. I did everything step by step all the way to where I'm to go to settings I did not get the option to select GSM. only LTE/CDMA and CDMA.
I rooted with kingo root, downloaded root browser, shortcut master lite, downloaded attach. files , deleted current files on /carrier/apps and pasted downloaded ones. I fixed the permission to node.db' needs to be set at rw-rw 0660, 'node.db-journal' needs to be set at rw 0600.. ,
I deleted the files on /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases.. Once I went into settings as suggested that's where i'm stuck since I don't have the GSM option. I will try to reset my phone to factory and starting fresh... hoping it might work. Any suggestions.. One thing I did notice is that once i restart my phone the files on /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases , re appear once I restart my phone.. If you can help me.. That will be so awesome!! If not I'll keep trying regardless.. Thank's in advance..
Okay so I was able to get it going following this similar steps..
1. root phone with kingoroot (2). download root browser and shortcut master lite from play store. (3) download attached files node.db and node.db-journal ( i placed them in root internal memory phone) (4) open root browser and navigate to /carrier/apps and delete original node.db,node.db-journal and replace with downloaded ones, hold each file and click on permissions to set node.db to rw-rw 0660, node.db-journal to rw 0600, (5). turn off the phone and add desired sim then turn the phone back on.(6).open shortcut master lite and search com.lge.hiddenmenu.jcm_only.networkmode. launch it. also I added to favorite and home not sure if its necessary but i did it. select LTE/GSM/WCDMA.. or select gsm only and then LTE/GSM/WCDMA and you will notice your sim connects to your network. Tested and working so far.. I will try apn and keep you updated.

Hi. if you want to change the icon 3g to 4g, just edit the ro.build.target_operador = SPR line, you can put ro.build.target_operador = att and reboot and see 4g. no matter which operator sim use. 4g icon always reflect

Nope. Page Plus is Verizon. They have to put the MEID on the account just like Boost/Sprint. If said MEID ain't in the Verizon system, they won't take it.
I rooted and unlocked my LG675 Boost. After putting my SIM card (MetroPCS) in the phone still says Emergency Calls Only. What did I do wrong? I followed all the steps mentioned above. I even have the APN set to MetroPCS.
Any luck with Tribute HD rooting and unlock? Any help is much appreciated.

Everything went great for me except for one thing. I accidentally deleted the original apn settings before i could edit in the ones I would need for T-Mobile. i can recieve MMS and voice calls but have no internet. Is there a way for me to see insert the settings I need without having to download and flash the whole Kdz file and start over? When I dial ##72786#, nothing switches back to default so I have to do everything in reverse but cant un-delete what is gone. I really appreciate any help. Thanks alot
Finally got it to work. Getiing good signal (talk, text,& data) using Family Mobile sim card. Thanks for the tutorial. Awesome

Hey. I wanted to help. If you successfully unlocked correctly, which it sounds like you did, you can use MetroPCS. However, you need to call MetroPCS first and let them know you are switching phones. You basically have to "ask for permission". This is why I hate Boost & Metro and never recommend the services to anyone. Metro will verify the imei is clean, then they will pair your sims iccid to the phone imei. After that your in business. Make sure you set your apn to get data working.
