Hi
I am new here and will soon be getting my Telus HTC TP2 and unlocking it myself via mobileincanada.com i had a couple of questions:
will i have any trouble unlocking?
i am buying it used so do i have to clear the ESN before i can use it? or what should i know about the ESN?
can i install the apps, .cab files found in the other section? or do i have to find CDMA only apps? Do apps work for both GSM and CDMA?
can i reset to factory defaults from settings to eliminate the previous owners info and data? or is there a button key combination?
is there a way to make Opera the default browser on the Internet tab?
is there a way to apply a diferent theme without installing a different ROM (since i've read we cannot do that yet for CDMA)?
is there anything else i should know as a new owner/user?
this is all i can think of for the moment. any and all help is much appreciated
thanks!
1) CDMA TP2's cannot be unlocked as of yet, I know that the community is working diligently on it.
2)You can't "clear" the ESN, it's the electronic serial number unique to each phone, it's kinda strange that you're able to find one used already, what you should check to see is if the phone was reported stolen, so basically you need to call your carrier and check to see if you will be able to activate that phone on their network.
Here's a relate post on another forum (mostly regarding a sprint phone but same idea)
http://cellphoneforums.net/sprint-pcs/t224073-how-clear-sprint-esn.html
3)You can install just about any app you want as long as it's compatible or signed *scratches head* I think there's a tweak cab file on ppc geeks that enables unsigned apps here:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=78019
4)Yes, not sure what the button combo is for sprint but for my verizon tp2 it's
-make sure the phone is OFF
-hold the "volume down" (the button on the side with the "-" on it) AND the send key (green button)
-While holding said buttons, press the power on button (red button) and follow the onscreen prompts.
5)It already is.
6)You can always disable Touch Flo 3D from the Today options or even install SPB Mobile Shell (I think that's what it's called) for a different theme, but if you're just talking about normal windows mobile 6.1 today themes, just disable Touch Flo 3D from the today menu in your options screen (All settings) and install themes you normally would as with any other version of WinMo 6.1
7) Phone works best with a good data plan and just like any other windows mobile device, expect to do a soft-reset every other day. And be ready for people asking you if you got a new type of iphone or that IS an iphone or if your phone has anything to do with the iphone.
thanks for your quick reply however i do know for a fact that TELUS TP2's can be unlocked i just happened to come across one person who had difficulty. that's why i was asking.
actually here this is the people that do the unlocking and they have a video on there. if you pause at the right time you can see the IMEI which is strange to me since i though CDMA phones were supposed to have ESN.
Click here for the site that unlocks the TELUS TP2 and the video where you can see the IMEI and unlocking demonstration. its a youtube video but make sure you have the plugins or use an appropriate browser or something because i couldnt see it on IE but i could with Chrome.
actually looking at the video again there are 4 numbers titled:
IMEI
WEID (first letter a little hard to make out)
S/N (is this the ESN?)
P/N
im attaching a screenshot.
Hi subby! I think what's tripping people up is your use of the word "unlock".
From the article you posted, the summary states: "You can see how to enter the unlock code to unlock GSM on the Telus HTC Touch Pro 2 Worldwide Edition." This is talking about unlocking GSM.---
---When people in this forum talk about 'unlocking', they're referring to the ability to load a different Hard SPL, so that they can install WM 6.5 on the phone. These are two completely different uses of the word "unlock."
I'm not sure which one you meant in your original post, but the TP2 does NOT have a HSPL released for it. So, you're stuck with WM6.1 (until HTC releases WM 6.5 in a few days)
The phone's great, however. I'd def. recommend.

Has anyone else tried this?
I wanted to remove the Vodafone customisations from my 750v so I tried the following: a hard reset (reset with power button on > 'yes' to delete all data); as soon as the power and screen comes back immediately remove the battery to interrupt the setup process.
The result? No VF splashscreen and 60MB (was around 48MB previously) of storage memory in addition to the program memory. The 750v seems faster. However, a manual setup of the data connection is required as is a registry edit to change the 121 voicemail button to my providers voicemail number.
I'm sure there are other changes too. I've still to test this properly over the next few days including a trip to a 3G area.
Excuse me if this has been covered elsewhere - I've looked but not seen anything similar.
It is funny, I have just recently heard people mentioning Vodaphone customizations like the splash screen. However, the only customization that I have on my 750v is the Vodaphone Business.tsk.
Yeah, i have a vodaphone and no stuff from them besides the business theme.... which i'm fine that way. That's odd, cuz i've got 66.31MB total storage memory

Does it now include MSN?
>Does it now include MSN?
No it doesn't
The only customization on my Treo 750v is the Email Setup link and the horrible gray theme. I have never seen such a lightly customized phone from a carrier, let along Vodafone. Even Vodafone device I have seen or owned has been branded to the point of instability.
If it wasn't for the Vodafone logo on the phone, you could swear you bought an unbranded device.
Same here guys,
After installing the latest Vodafone UK WM6 ROM, the only customisation I have is the Business theme, other than that, I couldn't find anything else to do with Vodafone which I found odd but believe me I'm not complaining.
Cheers.
German Vodafone - is it the same ?
Is the above mentioned for UK/ireland VOdafone branded Treo, or German as well ? i.e. will the ROM and update to WM 6 work if it is EN version?
thx
I am new to the world of PPC, I have used Nokias for the past few years. I bought the O2 XDA Zinc last weekend and have somehow managed to fudge up the OS. For some reason the contacts and calendar have disappeared and the phone boots maybe 1/4 attempts.
I am looking to upgrade to WM6 (or get my initial install back) and am wondering if anybody can point me in the right direction since there isn't a dedicated forum.
Thanks in advance.
Welcome to the forum.
Fortunately you can't permanently "fudge up" the OS on these devices unless you start messing around with ROMs. All you have to do is check the manual for how to preform "hard reset" and you will be fine.
In fact, chances are that if you go to Settings->System you will find a "Clean reset" or similarly named icon. Just click it and follow the instructions.
I am fairly sure there is no WM 6 for your device. Windows Mobile is not a generic OS. You need a specific ROM image for your device so unless the manufacturer makes one or someone "cooks" one you are out of luck (not that WM 6 is that great).
Trouble is though this site is called "XDA-developers" it mainly deals with devices made by HTC (used to be all of XDA brand) and unfortunately the Zinc is not.
Thanks a lot for the quick response. Unfortunately there is no information about doing a hard reset in the manual. By playing around I held the reset button and power button and it brought me to a "clear" screen which I ran. It defaulted back to normal but my contacts and calendar were still no where to be found.
i guess that was the "hard reset" according to O2's official site:
http://www.seeo2.com/product/XdaZin...ll&faq_id=2606&type=faq&category_id=445#q2606
Any suggestions?
Do you mean the contacts and calendar apps have disappeared or just the buttons on the screen?
Or do you mean you have lost your actual contacts details and your appointment details?
I mean the actual applications are gone. The icons are still in the start menu but nothing happens when you click on them. The today screen will crash if I use the calendar or tasks plugin.
Same here no luck of getting an upgrade rom for zinc since mine is a prototype, and the new rom is restricted to download.
any body can help?
I've just got my new 750V from Vodafone with WM6 to replace the 750v i had with WM5 and already there are a lot of things different. With my old phone you could safely put it in your pocket with dialling anyone as you had to press a two key combination to unlock it, the new phone activates by pressing just one button and therefore always ends up coming out of my pocket asking who i want to call or text or trying to open a program. Is there a way of changing which key/keys turn the screen on?
next..I used hidelogo and vjtoday on WM5 but on WM6 hidelogo does nothing although I've seen screenshots by other people who seem to have it working??!!?? vjtoday rmoved the bottom bar BUT it comes back on its on every now and then for no reason.
I'm struggling to find anyone who has WM6 on a treo to helps with these issues.
You'll keep struggling if you post in the wrong forum...
Try http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=322
Cheers
P.S. on your locking issue: try reading a manual (or just play around a bit with your machine), it is not really new in in WM6 either...
[Hint: settings, personal, lock; see also device lock in your today screen.]
Good luck!
Hi everyone!
I've been going through this ENTIRE forum, and countless others on top of dozens upon dozens of google searches, and I still haven't found a solution to my SMS timestamp error.
All the solutions offered up by people seem seriously promising, because they seem to help a lot of people, and that is what's kept me hopeful: that someone out there/in here can help me fix this problem.
Basically, I have an unlocked Fido Motorola Q9h, that is being used on the Rogers network. Never delved into flashing my device, cuz I was happy with WM6. Not to mention I'd got it tweaked to a very lovely point
Then a week ago, my phone locked up after I'd put my phone into airplane mode (I'd done this countless times before with no issue), and just would not let me turn the antenna back on. Nothing I tried worked, so of course I eventually caved and did a hard reset. That was when I figured I would give WM6.1 a try, seeing as how my device was gonna be starting from scratch anyway.
I flashed to an unlocked AT&T WM6.1 ROM, and went ahead with all the registry tweaks to remove all the bloatware. Phone is pretty damn clean if I do say so myself. I've got PHM on there, GPSID, CHome COnfigurator, and that's really about it.
After all that was said and done, and I got my first SMS, I realized the message was timestamped 4 hours behind. Every single SMS from every single contact shows timestamped 4 hours earlier. In the threaded SMS stream, my messages are timestamped correctly, but the other peoples' aren't.
Example:
Me (7:37): Send me a text to see if this timestamp issue's been fixed.
Steph (3:37): Okay =)
The strange thing is that MMS messages come in with the correct timestamp, and that is something that seriously boggles my mind.
Please, please, PLEASE. If anyone out there has some kind of suggestion, I would absolutely love to hear it. Here are the remedies I've tried that have had no effect:
-Installed DST cab from Microsoft.
-"TrustTimeZoneField" w/DWORD value of "0" minus quotations of course
-"TrustTimeZoneField" wDWORD value of "1" to allow the device to trust the provider's time just in case my phone was screwing up.
-"RcvTimeStamp" w/DWORD value of "1"
-tweaked some "NetworkTimeSync" (or something along those lines) entry to a value of "1" instead of its current value of "0," but nothing.
I'm at the end of my rope here guys and girls, so please, anything you can suggest that I haven't already tried would be infinitely appreciated
Thanks in advance everybody
although i dont know the answer ive got a thing for you to try
in the setting section make sure you regional settings are set correctly
Thanks Pilot, will double check those settings. Well, as per your instructions, I've double-checked the settings, and they're correct. Have my locale set as English (Canada), and nothing. Even changed it to English (United States) just to see, but to no avail.
*sigh*
I am almost at my wits end...Is there no one out there with a Q9h running the unlocked AT&T WM6.1 ROM, that's having the same issue??? Or even better, someone out there who's SOLVED the issue?
I've even called Rogers and they suggested a new SIM card, seeing as how I have the original SIM from Rogers, and I'm waiting on it. I've even tried my sister's SIM which is a new one, but nothing. Figure it HAS to be the ROM
Found a solution to timestamp issue with q9 & wm6.1!!!
Hi everyone!!!
I can't believe I'm actually going to be the person posting the solution to this problem, but I guess it's true that perseverance pays off
This post is in regards to the sms timestamp issue that I've noticed several people are having with the moto q9 once they upgrade to wm6.1 and are on a Canadian service provider.
***This solution involves modifying your device's registry, so if you do not feel comfortable or are unfamiliar with the process, please do not proceed with the modification. I will not be held responsible for any bricked/malfunctioning devices as a result of this tweak***
Use a reg editor (I used the free PHM registry editor), and navigate to:
-HKLM (HKey Local Machine)
-Software
-Motorola
-RilDrv
Now that you're in the RilDrv Folder, there should be a few more folders in here...don't navigate to any specific one, just click the "values" softkey (whatever it may be for your devices), and somewhere in the values that become visible, you should see one that says "LocalizedTimeStamp." Open that value and modify it's value to "0" (without the " " of course)
Reboot your device, wait 10 seconds, cross your fingers and toes, and restart your device. Once your device is fully booted, and seems to be functioning normally, send yourself a text message, and check the received timestamp. It *should* be correct (ie. a minute or two or less in the future of your sent timestamp). To be sure it isn't just for your own texts, ask someone to text you anything, and hopefully the result it yields will be the same.
I have only tested this solution on an unlocked Motorola Q9h from Fido, running the unlocked AT&T WM6.1 ROM on Rogers.
I serached for close to a month with no real viable solution, so I just kept poking and prodding at my registry. Yeah, kinda dangerous I know, but I was at my wits end with this little bug. Finally though, the time and investigation paid off
Hope it goes well for all of you out there who are having the same problem!
So through all this flashing and whatnot (wow this is so much better than the PPC6800) my Verizon TP2 has decided that its a T-Mob device, which I don't take kindly too so I have a favor to ask. First does anyone off the top of their head know what the "Device Model" of the Verizon TP2 is, I mean the like the official windows driver model name? Also if anyone running the stock Verizon ROM or when you plug into your computer and the picture in Windows Mobile Device Center is the Verizon phone, could you please look for a string in your registry it should be under:
HKLM\System\Platform\OEMString
Mine is showing HTC Touch Pro2 T7373, which is not the Verizon if yours isn't that please tell me.
Your assistance is greatly appreciated!

It's RHOD500
Mine Windows Mobile Device Center shows the VZW version as a pic, and the registry data is RHOD500
Well this is interesting, I changed the value and soft-reset and it sets it back to HTC Touch Pro2 T7373. I wonder if its pulling this value/info from a lower software area on boot? Possibly if the HardSPL or Security unlock did this or if I'll need to learn more about using a kitchen so that I could cook it in. Any ideas?
Mine is showing 'RhodiumW' in 'HKLM\System\Platform\OEMString\'. Prior to flashing, it was 'RHOD500' in 'HKLM\System\Platform\OEMString'.
I have the VZW Touch Pro2 and am running MightyROM 11/10/09 now.

Well I changed it to both RHOD500 and RhodiumW and it still changes it. I guess its reading from either EnergyROM, HardSPL, Security Unlocker, or the unlocked Radio?

Well I (obviously) used HSPL to unlock my phone, so you can probably scratch that one off of the list.
I didn't use Security Unlocker (but I did SIM Unlock through Verizon), EnergyROM or an unlocked radio. The only thing I did was; 1.) HSPL 2.) Flash MightyROM 11/10/09 3.) Install Hotfix CAB 4.) Activate 'Verizon Carrier Settings' 5.) Install MMS Cab (in that order).

To change the model name/number that is visible in Device Settings,
Try changing it in the ModelName.txt file in the Windows directory.
I'll try that and see how it shows up when I get home, what does your's currently say? Mine is "HTC Touch Pro2 T7373."
I changed it in the *.txt file to "RHOD500" with TC and soft reset, this changed the registry string to RHOD500 so apparently they are directly related. When I get home I'll see if it sticks.
That didn't work this time around either, any other ideas where the entry would be? After changing everything I deleted the ActiveSync partnership on both the device and my computer. I did a reg search for "T7373" and everywhere it popped up I change the "HTC Touch Pro2 T7373" entry to "RHOD500."
