I need HELP!!! noob here and i tried to flash froyo 2.2 onto my mesmerize like an idiot! had no idea what i was doing, so if the phone is unrepairable , its my own fault. please save the bashing on me, trust me i know im an idiot!! ok what i did was try to flash froyo 2.2 to my phone with odin 3 v1.0. I put my phone into download mode and it started to flash. about 2 minutes into it it powered off and now when i start it up it reads at&t world phone!! I flashed froyo 2.2 from a captivate onto my phone??? like i said total noob and i guess i deserved it. now when i start up the phone it thinks it is an at&t captivate. when i try to hook the usb up, it will connect for about 5 seconds and then power off. is there anyone out there that can help me? i will be eternally grateful to anyone that can help!

If you didn't flash anything to the phone part, you might still be ok. Go here http://ge.tt/2jDX1li and download the Mesmerize files then unzip them. Using Odin again put the pit file in the pit line and the tar.md5 file in the pda line, then put your phone into download mode and push start. If all goes well, you will just be back to stock.
i cant get into download mode the regular way. the only way i have found to get into download mode is to use adb download. when i do that, my PC will not recognize the phone. i get the usual connection sound from computer but that's it. oh and thank you for the files. now just gotta get the phone to stop powering off. like i said 5 seconds max then it powers off, arghhhhhh!!!!!! oh, and also for some reason after the disastrous flash, the volume up button doesn't work. if the phone thinks its a captivate, do i have to get into download mode how the captivate does with both volume up/down? thank you millions!!

You can try the volume up/down. If it is taking adb commands and still powering off, you may have a problem. Did you flash anything to the "phone" part or just the PDA part when you were flashing the captivate files? If you did, or you can't get these files to work, the only thing I can suggest is to use the free phone replacement. Just don't offer any explanation as to what happened.
ok i guess i flashed to the phone. tried all the download modes, phone dosent react. i can get to android system recovery, is there a way to load the stock mesmerize from the file you mentioned before in recovery? as far as the phone replacement goes, are you refering to the deal us cell has if you get it in your plan, or is there some other replacement yo are referring to?

Yeah I'm referring to the deal you get with the plans, hopefully you have the replacement plan or insurance. Either one should work.
If you are getting to stock recovery, and you can still run adb commands, there may be hope. You might be able to get Clockworkmod working, then you could flash the update.zip from recovery. After that, you might be able to flash a ROM and a kernel and possibly get back to normal.
You would have to push the files to root, then for CWM, then get the update.zip file from another person that already has it if you hadn't already gotten CWM working and still had it on your sdcard. Flash it, then flash a ROM and kernel.
That's a little over my paygrade at the moment, but I think that's what you would have to do. Hopefully someone else out there can help you a little more. I really hope you get it fixed.

Did you ever get this fixed?
not yet. i could fix easy if i could figure out how to keep my phone from shutting down after connecting to usb. it lasts about 5 seconds and then powers off. when i flashed it, i only got about 23% of the way done and the phone disconnected. i guess i has some sort of error or fail safe and shuts down? if i could figure this part out, i could use odin 1.3 to put it back to stock
Try talking out battery hold down volume down and plug in usb while odin is open it will go into download mode then use the mez odin files it should work merry christmas

I don't think talking to the battery will work. They are pretty stubborn. lol... damn phones and their predictive text.
That is correct that "TAKING" the battery out and hold only down volume button then plug in to usb and have ODIN already open and running, should work and also very important that you use PDA BUTTON ONLY....even thought you used PHONE EARLIER ....THE REPLACEMENT FILES FOR STOCK ONLY GO IN PDA....Dont want to make the same mistake twice....as it may seem that phone is the area that you messed up...the fix doesn't go there...PDA ONLY WITH PIT FILE TO MAP FILE LOCATIONS.....hope your Xmas present is a fixed mesmerize....

ok i finally got the captivate os off of it. i can get into download mode and i tried to flash back to stock using the file above in the post. i keeps failing on me. im using odin 1.3 and using both the pit file and tar. putting the .tar in the pda area of odin. please help?

my phone was running the official 2.2 update and i wanted to get back to 2.1 to flash a custom rom. it did a master clear just fine in ODIN but locked up at "DO NOT TURN OFF.." so i had to unplug it and restart, now its stuck at the pc to phone image and ODIN still wont flash it..plz help!
You're supposed to click 'Start' and THEN do Master Clear.
Remove battery so phone is off
Reinsert battery but leave off
Open Odin 1 click program
Hold volume up/down at same time, FOLLOWED by plugging phone in
You should be in Download mode
Click start & hope for the best

i tried that, it still just sits there saying do not turn off...
At this point I would suggest you buy a jig from someone on ebay or follow the instructions here for a cheap 99 cent jig

Fuct my cappy with odin. no download mode, no power, battery not charging/getting warm. I'm NOT a newb/noob/nub lol by any means. My question is if my bootloader is broken will using the jig even matter. I got a red screen when odin failed while flashing to 2.3.3 but it failed half way through after it seemed to be flashing fine. My concern is I just wiped everything of my phone. If so has anyone Jtag'd one here? I know about jtagbox.com/?s=CAPTIVATE and I'm an electrical engineering student whos done 360 jtag and router jtag for dd-wrt so im more than comfortable with it but I don't wanna spend hours if its for nothing.

Loaded this up last night.....not one issue to report. I happen to like touch wiz (as well as everything else) I hope you keep this ROM going in a stock like direction. Maybe if your plan is to change launchers etc you could branch off. Anyway....well done I love my phone!

Can you give me more details in regards to your question? Have you lost the ability to get into recovery? I had the G2X as well....CWM is flashed pretty much the same way as the LG (except without the NVIDIA tool)
Things are not far enough along to have a reboot option in the ROMS yet, try power tool or something like it, works fine for me.

I wanted to amend this after ongoing usage and say things are still running solid. I did notice a lower quality audio performance as compared to dknight. Not a major concern this early in the game by any means.
The audio capabilities on Android was and is the big reason I am here and not on I-tunes so i'm particularly sensitive to that area. I run completely uncompressed FLAC's (1411 kb bit rate) and have a 64gb SD card on my phone loaded to the hilt.
My work phone is a GNEX (with Black Ice and Axiom Morphr) streaming through Google Play so I have back up ...lol

You must install ClockworkMod Recovery before flashing a ROM. I'm currently using this ROM. I can still access ClockworkMod Recovery by holding volume up, volume down, and power button at the same time, then release after Samsung logo disappears. Don't flash ClockworkMod Recovery in ROM Manager. See the thread below to know how to flash it.

I have done all this to my G2x piece of crap so it not new to me. On my new phone the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G SGH-T769. if I hold down the 3 buttons, vol up/dn and pwr, remove battery all that stuff I DO NOT get the "WaRNING" or download screen. It will only give me recovery screen after the Galaxy splash screen. I have tried every method available. I have tried every unlock I can find, oneclick and unlock and even Odin but it needs the download screen. It will not see phone till it totally boots. Was hoping you had something to install thru recovery screen to get to download screen. Have not tried ADB yet but have not read everything on how it works or what to do. Really have not found much info on ADB way to unlock.
So since everyone here is a lot more advanced than I am figured I would ask. Seems only a handfull of Blaze devices will not go into download mode.
1. Turn phone off and plug to pc
2.proceed to hold both volume and power button simultaneosly. Keep holding down until phone vibrates then let go of power button and continue holding volume buttons.
3. Let go of buttons as soon as u get to the next screen then press vol up to proceed to download mode.voila
P.s. I have the same baseband.

no joy. this sux. tried every combo. exactly what you said. also tried removing battery... longer hold... shorter hold.. no sim or sd...throwing against wall while holding buttons. nothing works. all it does is continue to boot. :crying:
can there be a script or something written to do update from recover screen to make it boot to download mode? something..... or am I just stuck with jtag or adapter or whatever you call it.
What will adb do for me? can I root from it? will it help? I have not found instruct on what to do once in adb. found instruct on how to get to work but didnt see anything more. then again I did not fully look into it.:cyclops:

+ Download and install USB Driver for T-Mobile SGH-t769 Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G on your PC http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.com/downloadfile/ContentsFile.aspx?CDSite=US&CttFileID=5002142&CDCttType=SW&ModelType=null&ModelName=null&VPath=SW/201204/20120424041113815/T-Mobile_T769_Blaze_4G_USB_Drivers.exe
+ Download Odin 1.85 http://k0nane.info/rom/odin-185.zip
+ Download PIT http://shabbypenguin.com/k0/blaze.pit
+ Download Clockworkmod recovery TAR http://www.shabbypenguin.com/OUDstuff/Blaze4G/Clockworkmod-Blaze-4G.tar
+ Extract Odin-185.zip
+ Run Odin 1.85.exe and make sure that you check "auto-reboot", and uncheck all other options.
+ Click PDA and select the TAR you downloaded. Click PIT and select the PIT your downloaded. Uncheck repartition.
+ Connect your device to your PC
+ Remove the battery while holding down volume up and volume down buttons
+ Reinsert the battery and press volume up, volume down, and power button at the same time until your device has entered download mode.

Sorry. Have tried and tried. Total time trying this exact method and others over the past 2 days about 4 hours. Will not go into download mode. Have all of the above installed and ready to go on the computer. Can get odin to connect if phone is totally booted up in working mode but that does nothing for odin. Same with superoneclick and unlock root. The last two are not configed for 2.3.6 on blaze 4g or something so they will not complete the root/unlock.
If I remove battery with usb plugged in it will vib about every 3 seconds. Once battery is put in it stops vibing but once you hold button it will vib one more time then "samsung" comes across screen goes away then blaze spash on screen and it continues to boot. Never see "warning" screen or download screen.
I have no issues getting into phone from pc or phone connecting to pc. Just no download mode.
As I said i did not want to take over your thread with this and I feel I have taken up to much of our time as it is. Thank you for your help. Hope someone has solution soon. Thanks again.

Just tryin to cover all the bases here, but you should be holding both the volumes and the power button when you put the battery back in. Then be ready to release all to quick vol up when the dl screen shows up. You should also be connected via usb.

Flashed several ROM's over the last two weeks or so with no issue.
Never did a backup and restore.
Flashed a CM10 Invisitek(?) ROM today and didn't like it.
Before I flashed it, I made a backup of my XTC install.
Tried to restore that XTC and it failed.
Tried to restore again and it said that it passed and I rebooted.
Now, when you turn the phone on, it will boot up to Samsung Custom with a lock icon then flash the Samsung Galaxy SIII screen.
Once it flashes the second screen, it will go to a blank screen and that's it.
I've tried to get the phone into Download mode by pressing both volume keys, home and power at the same time and it boots as described above.

If you have a custom rom still on your sd card, try booting into recovery volume up+home+power and wipe data/ factory reset and then install zip from sdcard.choose your rom and flash.. that should be able to get you to boot up again. I had to do this when my phone would boot up and go blank after the sgs3 logo screen.
Do those two ROMs use different kernels? Because if that's the case, there's your problem. To my knowledge, CWM doesn't backup kernels, so restoring a nandroid wouldn't restore the kernel needed for that particular ROM to function. At least, that's how it was for my old Xperia Play. You needed to flash the new kernel before the ROM to ensure it would boot. With kexec, that's a little different.
But, I could be totally off base. Just throwing my limited knowledge out there for someone to maybe expound upon.

It makes sense for some phones, but it doesn't make sense that you're unable to get into download mode. Regardless of the incorrect kernel, you should be able to get into download/recovery mode. What is your device registered as when you plug it into your machine (such as QHSUSB_DLOAD)? Are you running Windows/Mac/Linux?
If your phone turns on you can get to Odin. Your best bet is making a usb jig. It's a special usb end that has 300k ohm resistor between two pins of the usb. When plugged in and the phone turns on it puts you directly into download mode. You can Google on how to make one from a usb cable and resistors from Radio Shack or mobiletechvideos.com sells them for $8.
Once in download/Odin mode you can re flash everything to stock.

Once in download/Odin mode you can re flash everything to stock.

This is your best bet if nothing else is working. I bought one from China on eBay last year for my GNex. I'm glad I've always got it.
Yea, I ended up having to jig it this morning when I got to the office and had access to my other tools. THAT got it into Download mode and allowed me to flash it back to stock. Bizzare evening for sure.

For the record...
To get into DOWNLOAD mode you hold home, power, and volume DOWN.
Volume up is for recovery.

I've seen the same issue, I was on Senergy and then tried to test CM10, I didn't like it and I went back to Senergy and I flashed it like normal way, however my phone stack on Samsung logo, after 15 minutes pressing all buttons then I was finally able to get recovery, reflashed senegy and it was alright, I Had very less battery, it could be that but not sure..

I had this same problem for a AT&T gs3 but I think my battery died and when I plug it in it won't charge. How can I fix that charging problem and then the start up problem?
Ok so made a big mistake and tried flashing back to a Gingerbread Rom after being on a Jellybean Rom. I know dumb. Now my phone is stuck on the samsung logo. I can't reach download mode or Recovery. On top of that my computer will not recognize my device. I'm hoping to fix this soon as possibe! Any help would be much appreciated!

Look for Heimdall suite and follow the instructions in the read me to reinstall the driver. Then use a heimdall one-click restore image. That should fix it.
You should be able to enter download mode no matter how messed up your phone may be..
Remove battery and place back in.
Hold both vol+ & vol- and plug in the usb already inserted to the pc.

Any ideas where to find those reinstall driver instructions? The main heimdall post in the infuse community does not have any instructions regarding re downloading drivers I believe. And no there is no download mode. I don't know how that is possible but it is. Download mode is not working on my phone.
I would also like to know the outcome of this, my phone also lost download mode. I'm not sure what happened, I was on the web and it just shut itself off and decided to bootloop itself.
I am almost 100% sure you can't lose download mode.

If your battery super dies it can be hard to get into download mode.

I had the same prob thought it was no download mode also but what fixed my problem was a restart of computer for the driver installation to complete .did you do that after installing the drivers?

My friend is unable to get his phone into download mode. His phone loops constantly from the Samsung screen to the CM screen and then back to the Samsung screen.
Pulling the battery and holding down the volume buttons does nothing. Connecting it via USB just brings up the battery screen, but that loops as well (shows the 'thinking' icon then the battery screen). Odin does not recognize it, not sure if he's tried Heimdall yet. But even if he can get that to recognize it, will it do him any good if the phone is constantly cycling power?
As others above have stated, it is not likely you have lost download mode, most likely not performing all of the correct steps. If you do the steps properly and there is no download mode you will need to buy a jig ($2.) , can be found on Amazon.
Once you can achieve download mode, follow qkster's Heimdall instructions, post 1 will get you back to stock GB, and post 2 will get root access again. If you have Kies installed, uninstall it before doing anything else as it is a source of issues.
Note that you must have the latest version of Java. Also, use the same usb port on your computer each time you run Heimdall, be sure that it is a properly operating usb port as well.

as Pony stated. The other reason we've been seeing the constant power loop is due to a stuck power button. You may need to take it apart and clean the power button.
Look thru the q/a threads...lately, the power button thing has been pretty common

Agreed! I've borked mine something awful before (namely, being careless and trying to go back to GB from JB) and losing IMEI, no recovery, etc. and could still get DL mode. I too had issues with Heimdall, albeit different, but if you use the same usb port (pull batt, plug usb in, hold vol. up/down....then put batt. in and continue to hold until DL mode)....go to control panel/system/device manager and find USB/samsung composite device, right click and update drivers. This is if Heimdall isn't working for you, use Odin v3 and flash GTG's back to stock. It will take you back to froyo unrooted. If Heimdall is working, like others have stated....be sure to have the latest java installed.
edit: If you can use Heimdall, it will prompt you to install correct drivers once you start the program.

Thanks guys for the quick replies (that I just now saw, lol... whoops!). His power button is actually broken on the board itself. He's made his own jig and gets it to boot up, but the phone itself is pretty much done as he's not able to do anything without the power button. He's looking at picking up a SII probably. Appreciate all the help though! :good:

Even with the pwer button broken, if the screen is still intact, a new replacement screen is closer to $135+.
He may be able to sell that screen pretty quickly for $75-$100.
His screen is trashed too, so he's pretty far up the creek without a paddle.
He's trying to sell it on eBay for parts currently. We'll see how that pans out.
