Hello everyone,
I couldn't wait to upgrade to the Thunderbolt but unfortunately I was still under contract so I just added another line to my account.
Long story short is I'm selling my other line (including my old droid 2 to sweeten the deal) However, until the line sells I'd like to put a dummy ESN on it. If anyone has an old and/or broken phone that they're not using anymore please PM me the ESN number. I would be very grateful and it would save me a little money.
thanks

They apparently won't do this anymore and they said I had to find my own I'm pissed off because I called in a few weeks ago and they told me this was possible. So please anyone with an old verizon phone. It would be a great help to me thank you.
Worse comes to worse grab yourself a $15 prepaid phone then just return it.

yes but I don't pay for data and other features on the line.
EDIT: the phone doesn't even have to power on it just has to not be on any lost/stolen ESN list.

EDIT: well not exactly wrong. You need to have data on smartphones but if you change the ESN on the account to a non smartphone the data package gets removed.

Call 611 back and try again. If not I have seen lots of cheap VZW phones on ebay...like $15-$20. They should work.
Just sent you a PM.
Or ask someone selling a phone to verify its a clean esn....not sure if that would affect the phone being sold though.

This guy I know had an issue with billing and got into a fight with Verizon. I think it is unresolved and he told them to go F themselves and did not pay the bill and moved on to T-Mobile. He is now selling his Thunderbolt. He has switched the 32GB sd card with an 8GB card (using it in his Tmobile phone) but is throwing in a nice case.
My question is if It's worth $100 and can Verizon refuse to activate it since there is an issue with it? Wouldn't the SIM card be connected to his account and they would not unlock it due to all the problems?
TIA
It will have bad esn if he didn't pay for his bill
Sent from my SHIFTAO5P using xda premium
yeah theyll put a flag on his account/phone, similiar to if the phone had been stolen. until he resolves the issue with verizon youll most likely only be able to use it wifi.
Unless the guy pays the bill off and the ETF the phone will be no good to you unless your gna buy it to use as a dev phone. and you wont be able to turn it on thru another company either so i'd say pass on that one bro.
thanks people.

I would still get it and sell it on eBay. I saw a Thunderbolt in good condition go for $408 and it was stated that it had a bad ESN. This was about a month ago.
What if I put the sim card from a paid up phone in his phone? I've been looking fornan experimental tbolt that I can switch my sim card back and forth with.
If that doesn't work with his phone I wouldn't dare buy a phone from ebay which could easily have the same issue.

Nope wont work bro. Its nothing like switching sim cards for a gsm network such as tmobile. If the esn is bad its pretty much no good unless you only use it with wifi.

There goes my whole experimental phone idea. Any phone that comes real cheap is likely to either have hardware problems or a bad esn. :-(

There's ways to work around the bad esn, they're just not exactly legal or condoned on xda.
No!
Get a brand new one, with the 40 gig memory card from Amazon for a penny.

That would be beyond my technical skills but I wouldn't want to entangle myselfbin any legal difficulties either.
it will be a bad esn and the esn is tied to the phone not the sim if i remember correctly

That's very sad, but there's probably nothing you can do except using a different IMEI and just using your SIM card in the One S.. blacklisted IMEI is blacklisted. There's a possibility it was marked stolen or lost, possibly for insurance fraud (claim as stolen, get new device for ~$100, sell 'stolen' device for $450, profit), or possibly for non-payment of bill..

You cant get a different imei. Long story short you are screwed. Try to sell the device for $200 the most that you can get
dude that is terrible !!
I would hunt that seller down and kill him, Or ring the police on him..
Try explaining to the carrier that blacklisted the phone whats happened, they will know who the previous owner is and they can get him done for fraud
I wouldn't just accept whats happened !! no way, not after paying $450
Or unlock it and use it on att :/ I hope this doesn't happen to me I've just traded my note plus a few.bucks for a.one s its been a week so far way to.many shady people now a days , but what I don't get if.u where using it for a.month shouldn't that imei be under Ur plan ?

I agree. I am assuming you called tmo to activate the new microsim card when you got the phone. And when you activated, that imei should have been put on your account. I suggest you ask tmo to clarify how this happened.

I would push it further with T-Mobile. I would ask to talk to a manager, and that manager's manager. Tell them you want to know who reported it lost/stolen so you can call the police for fraud. I would also insist on them telling you WHEN it was reported lost/stolen. If it was AFTER you activated the phone on your account then you need to know who reported, again, to report to the police.
I don't suppose you did any type of hand written receipt did you? I NEVER deal on craigslist (accept to sell). Ebay only, they have buyer protection.
EDIT: Then again, there may be privacy reasons that they cannot tell you who reported. Just sucks. You got the guys number still?
Always a danger buying a secondhand phone on Ebay or any other aution style site,
"Selling my Upgrade" then they claim on insurance then get another phone....big win for these people
How did you pay for it? and as someone else posted...did you get a receipt?

How much are you asking?
I'd also be interested... for a dev phone, or possibly a phone to pass on to erikmm. Price?
It's not blacklisted. lol. T-Mobile it still fully supporting it. Just no more OS upgrades. (Which we don't need anyways thanks to awesome devs.)

When they blacklist the IMEI, does it affect only T-mobile network or AT&T network too? Or any GSM networks, including MVNOs?

Both AT&T and TMobile have already activated the national device registry. That registry restricts any device reported as stolen from accessing any network. So the short answer: this phone is useless for anything more than a test phone or mp3 player.
as far as I know ericmm bought the phone to use as a dev phone.
Ok so I bought a phone off craiglist. I'm pretty cautious and had the customer service number and called Tmobile with the ESN/IMEI number. I asked them specifically if the person were to cancel their contract or if there was a contract or can anything that seller do in the future cause me problems and they said "NO". Now 7 weeks later the ESN is blocked. Do they keep records of my conversation? I had tmobile service and even have the time I called them since I still have the texts from the guy who sold it.
I called the guy and he said he would take care of it, but he could be just saying that then blocking my calls now so who knows. Has anyone had Tmobile fix the problems since they were the ones that said things would be fine? I called them and they said "no", but I didn't have the exact time and just realized I know the exact time and date I called them.
at the time you checked, it probably wasnt blacklisted, which happened after.

Yeah for sure. That's why I said is there any possibility that it can get black listed and they said "no". The lady yesterday on the phone said they don't recommend buying from a 3rd party. I wish the person I spoke to said that. I almost can't blame the guy who sold me the phone since I got off the phone with tmobile in front of him after they guaranteed no problems. :crying:

no, you should blame him, for not being truthful. he had the phone blacklisted or he "stole" the phone from them by not paying for it.

Is it black listed in foreign countries like Taiwan? How about mainland China. My gf can send to her family in China. So I can disclose it is blacklisted and maybe it's worth $150 to someone who can take it out of the country. My other friend is from HK so he can send to his brother.

no, just in the US. i dont think that canadian carriers are involved either.
Next time use swappa to see if it's being financed or not. If it's financed, don't buy it. It will tell you if it's fully paid off. It can't protect from it being a stolen phone, but it can help.

If it was originally purchased on a contract from EE, the buyer does not own the device for 6 months and thus does not have the right to sell it. It is listed on EE contracts. Also they are covered by Asset Watch which specifies the buyer may not have legal title to the device.
What this means I believe, is that if someone gets the Pixel on contract, then does not pay the bill, the device would be blocked.
Maybe it was an EE device ? If not i'm unsure but does sound blocked to me.

Sorry man. If you bought it used and it's backlisted, your only option is calling the police to let them know you were sold a stolen device to see if they can do something about it. But it's also possible it's not stolen. It's possible someone defaulted on a cell contract and the provider blacklisted it for that as well.
So basically. Nothing you can do.
