teamandroid.me beta - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hi, my name is Dalton, and I used to post on here a lot. Then I started a blog, and now I don't so much, as I spend most of my time dedicated to running my website. Speaking of websites, I just added a new one.
I am always looking for new and interesting things in the android world, but finding new sites and new things are getting harder and harder to do, as they are spread out so far over so many places, so I am trying to make them come together in one place.
I started teamandroid.me to be a sort of digg/reddit style link sharing site. Users sign up, and share their links. If they find a cool tutorial somewhere, or if they find some guys blog who does really good work, they post it. That way, eventually, you will be able to go to one site to get to all the really good stuff. It's in beta now, and I'd love to hear your ideas/comments. Should I take it down? Leave it up? Or just give up on trying to contribute to the community?

ROM(software?) Mirror: for torrent users(test).

Dear all,
I am in possession of a Kaiser and used some of the ROM's here. Now I am not a chef and prefer spending my time on other stuff. However I felled obliged giving a bit back.
Now I had an unused torrent-tracker on my website/server and was waiting to find something to put it to good use.
I am presenting a link to this Torrent-tracker for Firmwares/ROM's(if needed also some necessary CAB's).
http://tracker.homeip.net/tracker/
On the page there is a link/download for the client Utorrent v1.6.1 build 490. There is also a website(www.utorrent.com) with a way higher version, there is however some difference in opinion about versions above the v1.6.1 b490(discussions off topic).
This is however a test and will in the future depending more on the chefs willingness creating and uploading the .torrent and keeping secrets or sending me the ROM's and letting me do the work.
I will 1st put my effort in the Kaiser forum but if this idea is popular enough and requests will come in I will move a level up making the tracker available for the other forums with their ROM's.
I have already made a start with some of the popular ROM's and I will add more and more over time and naturally on request.
It will save a lot of time searching upload websites.
Reactions are welcome good or bad
For the Chefs:
Dear hardworking freaks if you like this idea and want to join this project take a short look at the following ways of sharing your hard work with all the other freaks.
1)- 1 have setup an FTP server and upload account for the Chefs. PM me for the link, user name and password.(all you have to do is upload your next ROM and I will do the rest)
2)- It is possible to upload the torrent to the tracker by your self. Again PM me for the link, user name and password.(you will have to create the TORRENT, upload it and share it.)
good thought, but
I like the good idea, but think that members will still want to download from the chef's website. Reason being, the chef's website will have a description and pics of their roms as well as easy updates & and discusion.
Additionally, the DL speed max'd at 24kbs, and the dl would have taken 45 minutes, versus the less than 5 minutes from the chef's choice of file server.
Again, I think this is a good idea, but without the army of seeders and a large following of members to dl the roms... good idea, but maybe not.
Great Idea!
Actually sounds a great idea in theory. Ive already tested out a torrent version for ppc but took too long.
The points STU makes are correct and I agree. I guess the idea would be great in theory and definately handy if using a TILT via WIFI. I found myself stuck without a PC / Laptop recently. I can imagine a scenario like this whereby the software COULD come in handy especially if the speed was acceptable on wifi.(lack of seeders to begin with?)
Good Luck and I for one would like to hear of how you get on with this project.
Best Wishes
Nick
@Stu_Can_Sam,
I welcome any argument and have to agree on some points like i am not sharing with a high upload. But you already pointed out the force/weakness of P2P-torrent is the many seeders.
For an idea that hardly started and placing judgment is a bit premature.
For any idea something can be good or bad after living it a couple of months not just after a day. Look at chefs cooking their ROM's, at 1st they are not always great but using the forum and people adding positive feedback makes their ROM's really great after a couple of versions.
So give it some time, people have to know it and getting used to the idea, and reading around in this community i guess people are not just "hit and runners" and will share their downloaded stuff way longer. We are not talking about movies of 4GB here so storage is surely not an option.
Very interesting....
I hear and feel what the others have said, but this could also serve as a way for others to "see" what others are using and potentially help to eliminate all the "What Rom are you using?/What Rom is best?/Who is the best Chef?/What Radio is best?/etc...." threads that keep popping up and polluting the forum. It could also potentially serve as the "perfect" alternative for all those that complain that they cannot use 1 file sharing service or another for X reason.
Of course, as with any torrent-based d/l, the overall speed would be determined by the seeders, but for some of us, this would be a great way to assist with information sharing. I myself have 5 PC's at home that serve as a mini farm when i am not at home or during the wee hours of the morning, when the network traffic in my area is lowest.
The only major downside that I could potentially see is that here in the states, more and more ISPs are moving toward bandwidth caps and penalizing those who go over their limits. I should know as I work for one. If a ROM were to become REAL popular, then i could see where this would get sticky, but other than that I would see no long term problem.
What I would suggest is adding a link back to the particular thread or post that the ROM originated from so that users can see what they are downloading or find out what is included in each ROM, with a heading of "Technical support and FAQs found here..." or something similar.
That's enough from this peanut gallery... NEXT!!!!

gTab Fans Website

I'd like to introduce everyone to a new website that I have created.
http://gtabfans.com
I have tried to create a website that will encompass as much information about the gTablet as possible. On this website you will find information about the firmwares, an installation guide (more to come soon, this represents a lot of work so far!), the market fix and a wiki with some very topical information.
I was getting a little tired of sifting through ages of forum posts to find out if a specific application would work, so I have created the Application and Game pages on the wiki.
I don't intend for this to take away from the community at xda-developers, I really like the atmosphere that we have created here. As such, there is no forum at gTab Fans. I simply want a nicer way of indexing the data available to us.
I am also looking for help. If you are interested in helping write guides, let me know!
I like it! Maybe it will help with the repetitive questions... Thanks for doing this....

You've inspired me -- I think a FAQ is in order
Nice easy to read site with easy to read new user info.
Nice job.
Nice! Looks really good count with me if you need help.

Right now I need help getting people to stop using the app/game thread and start using the wiki. If you want to help fill in some applications that you've tried, that'd be great.
Looks good! I suggest adding section for stock TNT, for those who don't want to go the modded route.
Jim
I added this section yesterday. Good suggestion.
I'm looking for more suggestions, I will be adding TnT Lite and CyanogenMod installation guides. These should be pretty much the same.
Great Site!!
Downloading Dungeon Defenders as we speak. I had no idea about the game till I saw it in the game section.
I registered and added some games and apps that I have used on my gtab. let me know if you need any help as I am a web designer.
Gtab fan site
Great idea
Very helpfull especially for newbies like me.
I have to apolagize I tried to add some games and I think I may have accidentally deleted some info.
I am obviously not a programmer but if there is anything i can help with let me know.
Wyngnut
No worries, that's what wiki history is for
I'll probably code a php or python script that lets users add a game and it just stores it somewhere in a database and then I can add them in batches.
This would give the users who feel comfortable editing the wiki directly that option and the form for people who aren't so comfortable.
Thanks
Yeah I went back and It was corrected so I added games and didn't screw anything up this time. I will keep updating it and checking it. I am curious to see if there are any more unreal engine games like Dungeon Defenders on the horizon.
Wyngnut
We now have a game/application form. Simply fill out the fields and I'll post it to the Wiki after I make sure no one was abusing it.
Thanks! Great site.
Man awesome site....It was just what I personally needed to decide on what firmware to switch too, I just got done flashing my g tab to tnt lite 2.2 then 3.1, but after seeing the write up on Vegan, I had to flash to it and man if anyone is deciding, IMHO Vegan is amazing....so much faster than tnt and has soft tab buttons for the home, back and options button so u no longer have to struggle or mod your tab find them again what a great website and idea. Really has the most common things that will help out newbs like myself, great job and keep up the good work, I would offer to help but being new I don't know how much help I would be, but if I can be any help email me at [email protected]
Thanks for all the positive comments!
Curious but what's wrong w/ the tegratab wiki? http://wiki.tegratab.com/index.php/Main_Page
Seems like you have all the same sections, accessories, roms, apps, etc wouldn't want people to call us 'fragmented' now would ya .
This wiki was created as more of a Games/Apps "database" than anything.. I agree, the tetratab wiki is quite good.
I like the idea of having a quick reference to what can and can't run on the Gtab. I've added a few games that I know work on Vegan B5.
Sorry if it's been asked but is there a way to register to the site. Be nice to avoid using Capatcha (sp?)

How do I develop roms/kernels?

Hi all,
I'm new to the skyrocket (coming from an Atrix) and I would really like to get into some development stuff. I have a tiny tiny bit of experience in java. but not enough to say I'm proficient. Where do i start for this device? This is a long term goal for me! input and support is welcome of course! thanks!
*I suppose this could have gone into the the Q&A forum.. though I felt this was more of a discussion..
i too am interested in this, and have been teaching myself Linux to start with and after i get that down i will move on to roms and kernels. i tried to jump right in and just follow commands others laid out, but when something didnt work or a comand came back bad or errors that i didnt understand. i chose to learn it the right way....lol
but there is a thread in the Dev section for beginers to start cooking roms, in no way is it close to developing a rom though.
first thing to do is search the forums.....there are tons of threads pertaining to what you wish to do. Being a themer I have several theme related threads bookmarked on my home machine which I can post for you but not really related to building ROMs and Kernels.
---------- Post added at 09:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:59 PM ----------
another thing to keep in mind, when you start reading and learning about building ROMs, every phone is different, things may not work the same....I think it takes a bit of understanding how to piece things together to really get something going.
doing themes is fun, but a lot of work (as are ROMs) so many images to change and .9s to mess with and then there are the xml edits which can be tedious.
it is a lot of work for ROM devs and Theme devs....I don't think either one gets enough credit for what they do.
@Mortem Tuam So we end up with the same phone. I couldn't find you to add you back on G+. I accidentally dropped a group, and couldn't get it back. Nor could I remember everyone in it.

Oh hey, I see a ROM dev.
Well, I'm learning myself how to make a ROM, and it's not exactly easy, but it's going slowly.
It's really just looking up what everything does, and trying it, and if it borks something, repair it.
Honestly, if you don't know how to make a ROM, like me, the best way is just to mess with files (NOTHING BOOTLOADER/KERNEL WISE), and learn.

Man, I wish there was an organized way to go about learning this stuff. I'm interested in getting started too but it seems like more than half the work is just digging up the sources to learn from.
.
freeyourandroid.com
It's a new site, I think it's maintained by some XDA members. It may be what your looking for.
Here is XDA's SassiBoB's take on their app. : http://www.xda-developers.com/android/freeyourandroid-app-review-sassibob-review-xda-tv/
Just use xda search and you will find plenty of devs who has really good guides on how to begin developing.

A call to arms!

Ok, I mentioned in annother thread that I am willing to learn developing so our phone dosent die. I've rrun into a bit of a hiccup in that I'm compeletly new to programming and I've either gotten no response or a negative one when I went looking for pointers. Fear not I am still not giving up it is just going to take longer than expected. So in interest of keeping development moving forward I'm putting out a call to arms. Are there any other aspiring developers out there? If so post in this thread what you are good at and what you can do. Perhaps we can collaborate and push out a rom in the near future. Personally I am an expert at graphic manipulation and can handle all of the ui, still working on the coding part. For everyone else, post things you would like to see and perhaps one of us could pick it up and run with it. Let's work together and make this work better than they ever thought it could!

Sigh..
We can't work together if you don't have experience with coding.
If you really want to get a spark, you need to get a promising build onto github. And, you will need experience and attention to detail. Nobody wants to help if you don't comment your code, keep good changelogs, and maintain a good readme.
So far, I don't see it out there.
Furthermore, I can't afford to spend hours working on something that won't pay my mortgage. Most of us can't.
If I hit the lottery, maybe I'm your guy. In the meantime, we can't work together without a leader.
And, let's hope the next developer isn't lacing every file with a bunch of jibber jabber about "don't kang my sh*t, bro." Because, a collaborative effort would require plenty of sharing.
Just my two cents.
I would love to see a new Sense rom. but this place seems dead. Coming from the G1 I was surprised to see barely any roms. Even though the G1 is a ancent phone, it had quite a bit of rom and there's more activity over there than there is activity over here.

I appreciate your honesty. But you misunderstand my intentions. I am not looking for someone to hold my hand and walk me through how to do everything. I, at most, am looking for info on how to start. I know I need expirence in coding before I can push out a rom, and that it will take a while to get that. That's why I started this thread. So, instead of waiting for me to finish the learning process we can get any other aspiring developers together to start something new in the meantime. I know there are others out there and if we all start posting what we can do and what we would like to see then maybe something may come from it. Thank you for point me to github, I'm sure I can learn some more from there. I understand about responsibilities getting in the way of hobbies, I have kids and a mortgage too, I'm just looking to get all the new developers together so that we can share and work together. I have a friend that writes code for websites for a living and I'm trying to get him on board to take this up as a hobby. Here's hoping.

There are only three devs left for the Sidekick.
HewettBR, me (JiN1337), and nxd (kernel developer)
Reactive was a guy who tried to get everyone banned for using open source work, and thus in turn got banned himself.
I would be welcomed to help teach you a bit. I wish I had a learning curve when I was just beginning how to cook ROMS.
1. Download a ROM, unzip it, browse around files, and open files. Play with things.
2. When in doubt, Google it. It's likely someone else had the same problem before you and is a basis on how I fix 80% of ROM problems.
3. Always, always make a NANDROID. A foolish mistake is to flash your own ROM and not have a backup to go to, and than you have to start all over.

!!do not buy from this site!!

Hello everyone. So cruising the web i came across this https://www.fullstockfirmwaredownload.com/ ,
and do not care if that person is in these forums. This site is charging people for other peoples work and files reated for Samsung. Im pretty sure you can't sell things that don't belong to you. I messaged them with my thoughts and hope they realize that what they are doing is wrong. Charging for firmware,etc....
My advice noobies and whoever else, do not buy things like these on his website. If you cant find it on XDA(which you nore than likely will) search the internet. I search a lot and have a lot of things for My Samsung. I will not provide links to where i get my things, but, ill give you a hint, foreign forums. there is files there that would be nice to have here. I will upload some things if im not in jail this time tomorrow. So Stay Tuned for FREE haha stuffs as it should be.
Thanks everyone and thank you XDA for being here for us. ALOHA
