ROM(software?) Mirror: for torrent users(test). - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

Dear all,
I am in possession of a Kaiser and used some of the ROM's here. Now I am not a chef and prefer spending my time on other stuff. However I felled obliged giving a bit back.
Now I had an unused torrent-tracker on my website/server and was waiting to find something to put it to good use.
I am presenting a link to this Torrent-tracker for Firmwares/ROM's(if needed also some necessary CAB's).
http://tracker.homeip.net/tracker/
On the page there is a link/download for the client Utorrent v1.6.1 build 490. There is also a website(www.utorrent.com) with a way higher version, there is however some difference in opinion about versions above the v1.6.1 b490(discussions off topic).
This is however a test and will in the future depending more on the chefs willingness creating and uploading the .torrent and keeping secrets or sending me the ROM's and letting me do the work.
I will 1st put my effort in the Kaiser forum but if this idea is popular enough and requests will come in I will move a level up making the tracker available for the other forums with their ROM's.
I have already made a start with some of the popular ROM's and I will add more and more over time and naturally on request.
It will save a lot of time searching upload websites.
Reactions are welcome good or bad
For the Chefs:
Dear hardworking freaks if you like this idea and want to join this project take a short look at the following ways of sharing your hard work with all the other freaks.
1)- 1 have setup an FTP server and upload account for the Chefs. PM me for the link, user name and password.(all you have to do is upload your next ROM and I will do the rest)
2)- It is possible to upload the torrent to the tracker by your self. Again PM me for the link, user name and password.(you will have to create the TORRENT, upload it and share it.)

good thought, but
I like the good idea, but think that members will still want to download from the chef's website. Reason being, the chef's website will have a description and pics of their roms as well as easy updates & and discusion.
Additionally, the DL speed max'd at 24kbs, and the dl would have taken 45 minutes, versus the less than 5 minutes from the chef's choice of file server.
Again, I think this is a good idea, but without the army of seeders and a large following of members to dl the roms... good idea, but maybe not.

Great Idea!
Actually sounds a great idea in theory. Ive already tested out a torrent version for ppc but took too long.
The points STU makes are correct and I agree. I guess the idea would be great in theory and definately handy if using a TILT via WIFI. I found myself stuck without a PC / Laptop recently. I can imagine a scenario like this whereby the software COULD come in handy especially if the speed was acceptable on wifi.(lack of seeders to begin with?)
Good Luck and I for one would like to hear of how you get on with this project.
Best Wishes
Nick

@Stu_Can_Sam,
I welcome any argument and have to agree on some points like i am not sharing with a high upload. But you already pointed out the force/weakness of P2P-torrent is the many seeders.
For an idea that hardly started and placing judgment is a bit premature.
For any idea something can be good or bad after living it a couple of months not just after a day. Look at chefs cooking their ROM's, at 1st they are not always great but using the forum and people adding positive feedback makes their ROM's really great after a couple of versions.
So give it some time, people have to know it and getting used to the idea, and reading around in this community i guess people are not just "hit and runners" and will share their downloaded stuff way longer. We are not talking about movies of 4GB here so storage is surely not an option.

Very interesting....
I hear and feel what the others have said, but this could also serve as a way for others to "see" what others are using and potentially help to eliminate all the "What Rom are you using?/What Rom is best?/Who is the best Chef?/What Radio is best?/etc...." threads that keep popping up and polluting the forum. It could also potentially serve as the "perfect" alternative for all those that complain that they cannot use 1 file sharing service or another for X reason.
Of course, as with any torrent-based d/l, the overall speed would be determined by the seeders, but for some of us, this would be a great way to assist with information sharing. I myself have 5 PC's at home that serve as a mini farm when i am not at home or during the wee hours of the morning, when the network traffic in my area is lowest.
The only major downside that I could potentially see is that here in the states, more and more ISPs are moving toward bandwidth caps and penalizing those who go over their limits. I should know as I work for one. If a ROM were to become REAL popular, then i could see where this would get sticky, but other than that I would see no long term problem.
What I would suggest is adding a link back to the particular thread or post that the ROM originated from so that users can see what they are downloading or find out what is included in each ROM, with a heading of "Technical support and FAQs found here..." or something similar.
That's enough from this peanut gallery... NEXT!!!!

My suggestion for information overload...

I've been following the forums for about a year, when I flashed an 8525, and now I have a tilt. Flashed to a new att rom, and just on Monday flashed to a wm6.1 rom. But there are a lot of rom's to choose from.
I propose that we create a sticky, with a listing of all the rom's, so that its easier on everyone, to find the data. No more need for flames, for folks that find the data and exchange a bit daunting.
In this sticky, I'd also propose that key attrtibutes of each rom, be used for comparison. Like, for example, whether OneNote is included, what programs are behind the HTC home, what colors are the primary interface (I personally dislike black, and love blue), what radio is suggested, and what additional software is included. Or what media player is the primary one. HTC's Audio manager sounds good, but... it plays disc's in Alphabetical order and not track order like WMP. I like track order best.
I'd also suggest that there be links to screenshots.
I just think it would have helped me make a better choice of rom's, or to really evaluate what my needs are, as opposed to the creator's needs.
To me its like car shopping.

There was a thread like this. It was created by a mod and it's in a sticky. Why does no one read it? Because it stopped being updated for one reason or another...
List of Kaiser Rom Threads and Download Links...First Page...Last Page ...First Unread Post
There is also a page on the wiki, which can be updated by anyone. If you're serious about your suggestions, how about making them. Remember to keep it unbiased. You can start here: Available Cooked ROM Versions
Perhaps your thread, sir, is redundant.
*wonders why nobody reads the threads any more...*

I totally agreed with you.
How many of these "I have a suggestion" type of threads are we going to have??? OMG! Maybe we should have a "I have a suggestion" sub-section!
LOL. _ALEX_ you famous. 2 posts and both quote you. LOL. I'm loving this. And people said I was just a mean person and I should learn to help. I see others are now starting to become fed up with all the BS that goes on lately.
TO the OP (original poster/in case you didn't know)
PLease read the sticky
Well I have read it...
and I didn't see a comparison chart of each release, and the relative merits of any of the software.
But that's ok, because in your eyes, I'm a noob, and therefore common respect, really isn't even offered, or even expected. Its just a way for you all to complain.
I've read the wiki, or I wouldn't have been able to flash the rom, or get a new radio. Or themes.
It was only a suggestion, one I never thought you'd go with, because then you can't have the tiered society. Us noobs, aren't people. In you world we are incapable of reading.
Could it be, that there is just too much info to reasonably digest, while we also hold down jobs, and live reasonable lives. Nope, that couldn't be it. Us noobs are just the whipping boys.
Got it. Loud and clear.

I didn't whip you at all in this thread. I just want to see less suggestions and more actual work. Have at the 'Available Cooked ROMs' page and OWN it.
I think everyone else is reading my recent bunch of posts and thinkng I'm just trashing everyone, when I'm not... I'm just being really honest in my posts and holding nothing back...
EDIT2: The quickest way for your suggestions to be put into place is to DO IT YOURSELF.
(edit3) It's the reason why I stopped asking if I should create a rollup sticky or update the wiki. Just like good old Bo Jackson, I followed the creedo of JUST DO IT. (Copyright Nike - please don't sue me...)

what about my post was whipping you? I even said please. Now to be honest, who is going to have the time to write up a visual chart of what has what and what doesn't ROM. I suggest, go to each individual Rom and write down "What I like" & "What I don't like" and go from there. Everything on here is provided for free. Alex didn't have to create a kitchen with tutorails for people to cook, but he took the initiative. The chef's didn't have to release their roms for everyone to use, criticize and tear apart but they took the initiative and did so.
Now, my suggestion is if you want something like you stated in your OP, why don't you take the initiative and create it instead of offering a suggestion and hoping someone else will create it for you. I'm sure some would appreciate it even.
<<steps down from soapbox now.

Actually, sir, what I said was this post was redundant because we already have a recent and active thread about this very subject. However, since you insist on having this conversation in the redundant thread rather than the actual thread I've already linked to...
The issue with your suggestion is "relative merits". This is going to vary widely depending on who you talk to. I hate GPS Tool and love GPSTest. I like HTC Home and threaded SMS. I can't stand the HTC Calculator but love 1Calc. Guess how many people disagree with my likes/dislikes... Yeah...most every has some different ones. So how, pray tell, are we to make you a chart with those merits?
As for the list of programs included, sorry but have you seen the first posts of the release threads? That chart would be 200 pages long to include all of that. I know it's a lot of information, but honestly the best way to do it is have a list of links to the ROMs and let you click on each and read just the first post or two by the chef. Then you can determine for yourself which one has features/apps you are interested in. By pure coincidence, I have an updated version of the Cooked ROMs wiki I'll be putting in place in a few hours that has the list of roms by OS version, then by Chef, then by date. That should make it a bit easier to navigate the information.
And to reiterate _Alex_'s statement...this is a forum and we have a wiki...if you see something is missing that would help...then work on it yourself. Let others know it's there and you'll probably even get help with getting it tweaked out and chocked full of info. This whole place is here because of community input. Offer something back.
It's not that you are a n00b that we get snippy. We all were/are (depending on how you look at it). At least not from my point of view. It's that while we're talking about how to deal with redundant threads...you make one. Others may have different reasons for acting the way they do towards you, but that is the entirety of my reasons for my actions.

FTP Server for xda developers

Ok so here is my idea,
I have noticed a lot of people like to use hosting company like Megaupload and rapidshare, which to I have noticed has it's draw backs on waiting times etc..
So what i propose is to setup an FTP server for all developers on the XDA community such as:
duttythroy
shogunmark
Confused Stu's
ryncppr
sakajati
Laurentius26
(Sorry if I missed anybody out but of course you are included)
Each user would have there own space on the ftp server to upload there rom's/tools they wish to share with the xda-dev community, which they could link directly too there own threads to make it easier for people to download.
Supported by donations I would be happy to keep this server running permanently for everyone to use.
Also if you have any other suggestions I would be happy to hear them.
Let me know what you think as if I get enough positive responses it would be a project I would be happy to pursue.
Thats fine, so long as you:
1. Can get a server in a country which doesn't respect Microsoft's Copyright. I believe XDA had an FTP before which was shut down
2. Have multi-gigabit connectivity. Think just of the Kaiser board and imagine a few hundred people all downloading the latest Dutty or L26 ROM at about 100MB a go. Now multiply that up by all the boards at XDA-D, all the Roms and all the users.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not deliberately pissing on your campfire but there are reasons things are as they are.
TM
Hi
Thanks for your reply, i had already thought of banwidth issues plus the copyright implications from M$, i am currently looking at different hosting company's which may be able to provide me with what i/we require.
Don't worry about pissing on my campfire, i have a nack for working out issues like these.
As a matter of couriosity can you remember why the xda ftp was shut down?
I think as above 'I believe XDA had an FTP before which was shut down'... due to the server having multiple images and files of MS based software.

The idea is good brother, but its unlikly to happend due legal issues. What you should do is sit down and collect all urls to all rom and compile a nice tread that you can daily update whit links on the diffrent chefs. That will go straight on the stickies (should go that is), woulda done it myself but I am to occupied trying to learn to cook
good idea one source - all of the files

Universal Conspiracy Project

Well its 2 July 2008, its a really hot day (here in Greece) and I am tired of flashing more and more ROMS to my UNI. It's not only flashing but the boring procedure of installing software. If you see the other devices forum, the people there more happy with the releases (just see the small brother of our UNI, wizard (qtek9100 etc) it has many roms that are years after Universal roms. We have the problem that we have VGA screen, but I thing we can do smth better.
Can we make a team of donators (and testers both) and invite any cooker that will make a GREAT rom for everyone????
example:
If 50 users donate 20$ each = 1000$ = a good motive for cookers.
The name of the rom would be UCP (Universal Conspiracy Project) + the name of the cooker/team.
I 'm waiting your opinion and ........members

1) It wouldn't be good, the members would be put on randsom..cookers could then take advantage to mint money. I am a cooker and I can tell you that I wouldnt suggest it though I'm sure no one minds "free money".
2) if you want a great rom..contact a cooker and offer to pay them directly (you'll get through cheaper) - I'm honestly saying this, because this sort of thing happened (Ransom) for the Athena Project..no names or targets, but everything revolved around money.
3) You could go with that if you really want to though...but if flashing is the issue you could stick to a single rom and just wait...the time frame waiting on one cooker (eg. Tomal since you use his roms alot), and let him cook at his pace. If there are multiple cookers together (cartel) it will take much longer (with internal issues as well). Refer to the Athena Project....
Just my opinion since I saw alot of stuff happen on other projects...which wouldn't mind repeating here as well if we "PAID". I know its more like a contribution but once you make it clear you're going to pay or "offer money" for development...the idea of a community like xda begins to break and mess up...thats only going to make cookers and others expect to be paid for releases - if not the Universal forum the entire board and all the threads here...Cookers outside universal will follow a similar trend...the reason I started cooking was not to bother people with too many flashses but rather to design new roms and cook new things and offer to the community...
We're already paying Microsoft ( & HTC) a great deal....
I love the idea of working together on a project..but when you add money...though for the BEST INTENTIONS...they cause lots of problems..
Best Regards,
No Rom Bountys
I have to agree.
This is not the place to offer money for cooking.
Developers are here because they enjoy what they do, and enjoy sharing it with the community. Donations are fine, but offering to pay for Dev time will cause so many problems.
The main issue, and one of the reasons I have been so quiet with Rom Development for so long is that there are many users on this forum now, who seem to think they have a right to demand things from a Developer, and go as far as flaming a Developers work.
Never forget what this site was created for, for like minded "Developers" to get together to work on reverse engineering the software and improving the use, functionality and features of their devices.
There are far too many users here, who can not spend a bit of their own time reading up on the information provided (free of charge) that gives them greater knowledge and understanding of their device, it's functions and how to use the software available here.
Unfortunately the site has become full of demanding people who want a perfect Rom, exactly the way they think it should be done, and so they demand and criticise the Developers, bugging them in their threads and requesting time and time again, functionality that is not important to the particular Developer that they are targeting. This only leads to one thing, the Developers gets annoyed, loses interest and moves on to another forum or stops Developing altogether.
Feedback from users is great on the work that we do, the site would be useless without user feedback, but all said and done, we are all here to better our knowledge and help others resolve their problems.
We do not provide a software customisation and "help me un brick my device, because I can't be assed to read the Wiki" service.
All in all if you wish to have a Rom customised to your own needs and are willing to pay for it, them PM one of the senior Developers who's been around for a while and ask politely if they would be interested in doing so for you. I doubt you would get much response though as most of us do it for the community, not the individual.
There are plenty of people who sell roms on Ebay, perhaps you could ask them too. (although most of what they sell has been hijacked from here)
All the Developers here, share ideas and information on bugfixes, tweaks and porting issues, that's the idea of the community.
Rant over.
Cheers,
Beasty
I also agree it is a bad idea to let the 'money' element come into the community. I have personally seen devs and testers get burned because things went sore cause of 'immature testers/users' or 'deva-devs' who think they are the best and don't open up to the idea of sharing for the common good.
At the end of the day it really boils done to what motivates a person to do what they do. Allow me to be the first to say that this board is one of the best on the WEB...I consider it one of my virtual homes because I have made a few friends alone the way and learned a lot of crap too
I donate because I want to help, that's my way of saying to the community I appreciate all the 'love' and keep up the good work. Also, because it is my 'home' I want to see it improve. I have also engaged a few 'devs' direct when I wanted a particular cab built or a rom tweaked...so maybe you can do that (but of course manners maketh the man) however you need to show respect and not come off as a jerk
Cheers...
Youmeus
Agree!
Hi
I´m just a simple user, but since I got to this fantastic forum I´ve tried to READ, LEARN & RESPECT others people hard work for the UNI´s.
I think ROM devs have a lot of patience on all of us that only demmand things from them, if in some point they get tired of all of us, this forum and our UNI´s would be death.
I kindly ask all normal and simple users as me to respect Devs not asking so many things but yes contributing with feedback to their important work.
Let´s keep moving forwards and with good energy!
Best to all
Gracias
i don't agree with that idea of paying the cookers. it is because i believe they cook out of their passion to share and to improve themselves, not to earn a living.
money cant buy their hard works........

hmm, i don't believe if the cookers are motivated by money
i just believe that they are motivated by fun and sharing with others
money they got does not enough for their hard works and their knowledge has been sharing
honestly, i want make donation for them, for their fun shared for me
but, i never make donation for them, because i don't have any paypal account to make it possible
and, to appreciate what they have done
i never think that one ROM is better than the others, no ROM is best
because it has been developed by their fun and knowledge, to be shared to others
and, hey, sorry
if you don't like what they've done, just leave this forum

hey that was just my opinion, I didn't say smth about our cookers, and I 'm thankfull for their hard work.
I have more than 3 different ppc's (UNI,WIZARD,HIMA and htc3600) and I can make a comparison to htc's roms that is good working or not. BUT THIS IS JUST MY OPINION. The thought of my post is just for a competition of cookers and the money is an award for their work (and maybe a try from other device's cooker/developers). Maybe it's right, maybe it's wrong.
Everyone have to say their thoughts without shouting and without offend ANYONE. Thats Democracy.
It's my decision If I leave or not this forum.

i think that's the point of many of us here. There is no room for COMPETITION here. this site is built for each one of us to HELP each other, the developers/cookers learn from the feedbacks, the end-users benefit from the output of the cookers. if you want it to be like a CONTEST, cookers themselves will not share their ideas to other cookers. They will not help other developers since only one cooker will win in your "competition"...
i bought the Uni for profess. work -- but feel like a beta tester
hallo michalis031,
maybe good idea. I bought the Uni to earn money -- intended to help me to become more efficient.
Result?
- System (too) often hangs or reboots (no error messages!)
- active sync does not work properly (sometimes o.k., minutes later errors )
- callers often only hear my 30s-answering machine -- slow respond to incoming calls (!!)
... only to mention the most annoying subjects...
Who has better ideas to make this great little machine a real professional one?? I am ready to pay for excellent work -- and this is the only thing i expect to get.

I am ready to pay for excellent work -- and this is the only thing i expect to get.

i think that's the point of many of us here.

Very true.... right on the mark.
I have to agree with the majority on here, as a tinkerer I find that the forum is very expansive to those that are willing to read and not just post "help me unbrick my uni" posts.
If I had the techincal skills and time I would love to start cooking, but most of all I would do this for the good of the forum and not to line my own pockets. I hope I am right in asuming that the majority of cookers are profesional coders in another line of work and do this for the fun of the chalenge, this is very admirable.
Also the lack of finacial incentives and deadlines allows the dev's the chance to tweak and bug fix to the level that they wish and not just to get by with what they can do in the time space.
In reply to the post "I bought mine for business", I would say that you made a mistake to consider unlecking and adding new roms if you were to rely on the uni to help you earn money. I also got my 2 uni's for business, one is a test bed of software from this forum and my main phone / pda, the other is left as OEM just to be sure I have a totally working Uni.
Please dont push the dev's into not enjoying what they do best. Keep ROM's free, but if you wish to pay just give them a donation. Im sure they would thank you for it.
Dave.
Hello munkey_bwy,
I appreciate your opinion. Thx.
Bought a 2nd Uni with WM5, installed patches to add some missing WM6 functions, and even my 100+ programs. It runs with an acceptable speed. I am really happy.

Kaiser ROM comparisons

I noticed that this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=437576) was closed recently and to be honest I didn't think it was entirely fair.
Yes, it's true that we should all read the guidance, and yes, it's also true that individual preferences will determine which might be the 'best' ROM.
However, there are 2 reasons why I think that closing the thread was unfair.
First of all, there is too much information, and a lot of it is simply too technical. I want to update my 6.0 ROM because I am using one of sleuth's old ROMs from January. I'm not sure whether to go for a 6.0 or 6.1 ROM. I haven't seen any post which summarises what the strengths and weaknesses are. My understanding is that the benefits of improved usability and battery life are offset by greater instability and slower response, one of the big drawbacks of WM6. So for me, I want usbility, stability, speed, speed and more speed. I don't want to wait a while after pressing a button and I don't want to have to use the stylus. What is the point of having all this cool hardware if it's painfully slow and awkward to use?
For me this is more important than free RAM, video dialling and YouTube. I have no idea which are the fastest ROMs, or whether a WM6.1 ROM can be as fast as a WM6.0 ROM. Also, how bad is the instability? Does this mean crashes every day, couple of days, every week?
There is a lot of mention of Hyperdragon and Manila but I have no idea what this is. Actually I think that Manila is some form of accelerated 2d driver. But what is 'a 2d driver' and how does it differ from 'a 3d driver'?
You can get lots of detailed technical information, but the more basic issues don't seem to be documented. There are so many ROMs, how is a newbie supposed to choose? Flashing the phone and reinstalling/reconfiguring everything is not an instant process and it can take quite a while to get your phone configured just right. Even if you read all the detail, I suspect that newbies will still be somewhat in the dark. Most of us don't have time to try out 3 or 4 ROMs before we settle on the right one.
Finally, the original poster specified (some of) his particular preferences or selection criteria if you like. It should have been possible for people to make recommendations based on this. If some think the question is a bit lame, they will say so. More enlightened users might post links to some information that is genuinely useful, instead of posting something like. "Search the forum, the information is there". Yup, sure, but the phone will probably be obsolete before you find it. Leaving the thread open will allow the debate.
I understand how you might not want lots of posts about the same thing, but if that is the case, then it indicates that the information is not as accessible as it could be. I think it would be useful if for each ROM posted, the chefs could summarise the main points and benefits. For example is the OS 6.0 or 6.1, how fast it is compared the standard. Is there a benchmarking tool? What are the unique benefits? What are the known issues? Some ROMs posted have really excellent documentation, some not, but it doesn't give me any basis for comparison in relation to the things that are important to me - and others I suspect.
This kind of debate is interesting and relevant to me and I suspect some other too.
So if anyone would care to comment on their views on ROM choices, particularly in relation to speed and stability, I would be really grateful.

... And Battery life please
im not trying to come down on you but i think your missing the whole point of this site. lets go with battery life for a second. if you had read (and this isnt that technical) the battery does have some to do with the rom but more to do with the radio and what you use the phone for. speed is also dependent on what programs your running. the problem is like has been stated before this site is about not being a spoon fed prossess and trying each rom yourself. if you want to compare them the do just that..let us know what you think bu post in the correct rom. not realy all that difficult

I've already commented on my ROM choice over at the Windows Mobile 6.0 vs Windows Mobile 6.1 thread here (only one day old since the last post). I see you posted in it too.
To summarise, for me the HTC official WM 6.0 ROM is miles ahead of their latest WWE WM 6.1 version in terms of general reliability, speed of GPS functioning and reception strength and even simplicity (including WMP program related files not being dumped into my microSD cards music folder). As for customised ROMs, there are posts about that in the same thread.
The site is meant to be how it is. If you never read and do the research yourself you will never figure out how to do this on your own. Yeah, it may be hard to start, I think my first flash took several hours, reading and re-reading the directions, but now I can flash + get all my apps and settings right in less than a half hour. And about how fast the ROMs are, there is really no way to judge that, because they are all updated very frequently and most people re-flash, new bugs show up, things slow down, things speed up, it would just be too hard to keep track of it all in one spot, and it is alot easier to just read. You really need to use a ROM for a few days to get a feel for it, and you can use something like PIM backup so you won't actually lose anything between flashes. Battery life can't be judged good either, because it seems that radios perform differently in different areas, so everyone is always searching for that perfect radio, which is ever-elusive, some get a GPS fix in 10 seconds, but eat 30% of the battery doing it. Some take 3 minutes but you can talk for 324 hours before the battery dies (exaggerations) There are just too many options and too many combinations of radio/ROM/SPL/location that it would be some form of retarded to track it all, and on top of that, all of these people here do this on there own time and dime. Sure there are donations, but no one can pay the rent with the donations received here, why ask them to take more of their time to test and keep detailed statistics (BTW, just because they cooked a ROM dosent mean they magically know if you will like it or not). Last thing, do you buy pants based on online reviews? No? Thats because your ass is different from mine, my ROM might not tickle your fancy, just like when you try on some pants that don't work or fit, what do you do with a ROM? Try a different one. Not meaning to bust your balls, but this is not a simple process, and you've got to do some reading. Yeah, it sucks, but so does not being able to take a pill and instantly know calculus.
Actually, this sort of response is exactly what I was hoping to get.
Sure, different people have different preferences, and posting opinions and justifying their choices is something us novices can learn from. It gives us a starting point to research the ROMs which look most promising.
Regarding the battery life and radio thing - I know, but the thread on V6.0 vs v6.1 specifically mentioned different battery life. I'm sure most of you guys are using suitable radios, I mean you aren't going to choose one for crappy performance are you? So this indicates that the OS version (or the radios available for them) have different performance.
I've already done a lot of reading, but the sad fact is, I still don't have the answers to some basic questions. I do believe (from what I have read here) that a WM6.0 ROM will be faster and more stable than a V6.1 ROM, but I don't know to what extent. Is the difference noticeable? Do the latest Hyperdragon and Manila ROMs make the kaiser the zippy usable phone we wanted when we chose it?
So, even if people just post what ROMs they currently use, why they chose them, how they compare with others they may have used, and give us the benefit of their views and expertise, I think some of us could learn a huge amount.
So, I'm really not trying to be a whiny pain in the butt, just learn a lot more to help me with research.
I actually have an idea, if the MODs would let it fly and possibly sticky it: A comprehensive, detailed ROM review thread. I could make a post for each ROM a user submits a review to me for, and then take the ones that actually have decent content and recommendations and aren't like "Yeah I really enjoy this rom, great rom" and edit the posts accordingly, or have one giant post, or perhaps a wiki page if one doesn't already exist for that purpose.
I'm not much on programming or that great with technical skills to cook, but an up to date review thread could definitely be my way of being able to give back to the community.
i guess you didnt search first
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=409867&highlight=rom+comparison
yeah, figured someone probably got the idea before now. I've never seen that tick through the threads though, guess that's why. When he starts updating again the mods oughta sticky it. My bad on an unoriginal idea.
For starters, if you have an issue with a MOD closing a thread, please PM them. Do not call them out in public.
Second: The previously mentioned thread was closed because there are rules against "best ROM threads" because as Jimmy said, ROMs are very subjective, and there is no definitive answer to suit everyone.
Third: This thread is now being closed as well. As it has already been said, you need to do your research on the different ROMs available. It only takes a few minutes to read up on any given ROM because the chef usually updates one of the first few posts with reported issues and their fixes.
If you require any further clarification, please refer to the announcement at the top of the Kaiser forums.

ROM chefs who need hosting

I've created a new high performance hosting site for WinMo and Android custom roms. It is still however in beta but I expect that it will be finalised before the end of June
The servers (Yes I mean that in plural ) that are being used are located in Dublin, Ireland (My hometown) so as to ensure brilliant speeds for both the US and EU. This service is of course free however there are certain rules that must be followed to preserve the integrity of the site. For example, I will not be allowing full scale discussion like here on XDA to make it easier for people to navigate ROMs.
In any case, when you host a ROM on my infrastructure you get both regular HTTP download and bittorrent download as a backup so your ROMs will always be available. No more rapidshare! Devs get unlimited space for their ROMs and those with more than five distinct ROMs get their own subforum to release their ROMs on. Again, I would like to stress that the primary aim of this site will not be ROM development as is XDA or MoDaCo but it's aim is to be sooner or later the comprehensive database for custom ROMs on both Android and Windows Mobile.
In any case, the site's URL is http://www.smartroms.com I hope you do find it useful, if you encounter any bugs or the like please send me a pm and I will look into it
Nice idea. Good luck with it. I'm registering just now!

Can you let me know if the registration page redirects you correctly? I noticed a few times that it kept hanging on redirecting during testing but it disappeared after I made a few seemingly irrelevant code changes.
Anyways, give me feedback!
It redirected me fine. The only tiny thing I'd say is that once you register and you are redirected to the login page, instead of your username being pre-filled, it puts your email address in.
Some less 'savvy' people might stumble on that and wonder why they can't log in.
As I say it's no biggy but you know what some users are like

No bother. It might be a PHPbb thing. I used to run a PHPbb board many moons ago. They have changed a bit since then. lol
I really like the idea.
Thank you for providing a fast platform
Nece one, will check out soon. Thanks!
Sounds great, Roms with *****ing
Moved as not ROM Dev.
B.t.w already a hosting solution http://www.xdaroms.com/
Appreciate the offer and contribution.
Yup! A central place for finding ROMs should be brilliant.
Mod. edit: not dev related, moved to general
here's your feedback:

that's really bad... for a hosting site
I've been working all night migrating the server to vBulletin instead of the phpbb system it is now. That's why it's slowing down from time to time. I thought it would be safer to work through the night as less people would be accessing the site but I suppose I thought wrong
In any case the site is hosted across multiple servers for performance and redundancy reasons so when the site is finalised there should never be any speed issues.
