[Q] Radio FM Tuner - Touch2 Themes and Apps

Hello, I'm new here, and ashamed to say that while I like PDAs and know how to operate my Touch 2, I'm a complete newbie about their most advanced features.
I was looking for a more sophisticated FM radio tuner, as I'm not really satisfied with the one bundled with my ROM. I found Power Radio here on the site, but couldn't really understand if my model is supported or not: I found many pages regarding a possible installation on HTC Mega (but I seem to have issues with GFMAPI), one suggestion to rename the FMSDKWrapper.dll file (which I couldn't find on my PDA), and many other technical pages which I couldn't understand. However, after many wanderings I think that the correct answer is that Power Radio is not for me.
So, up to my question. Do you know any other sound FM radio tuner to substitute the crappy one on my Touch 2? Note, I'm not looking for an internet radio tuner, I don't want to connect to the Net.
Thank you.

Noob questions!

Hi,
I am about to purchase an AT&T Tilt and I would really like to learn how to modify this thing. I've been surfing the forums and there all these these different types of ROMs and all of that. I have a basic understanding but I just had a few questions:
1) Anyone have a generally recommended ROM? Dutty's looks like to be a popular one so far.
2) What does "radio-only" and radio in general mean in the context of the Tilt?
3) Can I Sync this thing with a Mac?
Thanks a ton for the help!
Noob myself but here is your answeres i am sure someone will correct me if i am wrong!
1. There is too many to choose from, currently i am sticking to official roms
2. Radio roms are like radio drivers and you should use the one recommended for the rom you are going to choose.
3. Of course (software required)
Dutty version 6
Me a WM noob too!
Be sure to keep a backup of your official ROM in case you want to go back to it. Use Sprite Backup that's available on the HTC CD.
There are far too many ROMs floating around. Schaps is unable to provide much support, I gather. I'm still learning myself about the others.
I have used Dutty's Full version 6, it is extremely stable and lightning fast. v 7 has too many issues, and I had to go back to v6 after installing v7 on my TyTn II, but I'm sure Dutty the Master will turn v7 into as fine a ROM as v76 in due time. Till then, I would stick to v6.
The radio essentially refers to the phone hardware drivers on the unit that handles all calling, including video and wireless, but not the software diallers.

Schaps might not be able to provide too much support - but his roms are very good. I've been using them since his first Hermes Rom. Besides, his threads are usually very active and others provide the support when he isn't able to (as with all roms).
The radio is basically the part that allows your phone to talk to the cellular network. A "radio only" rom includes only the radio upgrade and does not include any operating system. This is good if you want to upgrade the radio without having to completely re-install applications, settings etc on the phone. BUT if anything fails when flashing a radio it is easy to brick your phone. For this reason you should install hardSPL (in my signature) which will allow you to recover your phone if anything else goes wrong.
Wow thanks! Someone mentioned software dialers. What is that exactly? I'm assuming its just a front-end for dialing numbers on the phone like how they look and stuff. Am I correct?

Built in Radio FM Software - any alternative ?

I'm not really convinced by the integrated Radio software of my Polaris. I would like to know if somebody know an alternative ?
What I search for is a software that allow me to wrote the name of the station (not only the frequency as into the Polaris). I've also remarked that the Audio Booster have any influence on the Radio. About this, I'm not sure that it is a bug with my Bepe WM 6.1 ROM (if someone can test it with an official HTC ROM, I'll be interested to know if this is a general problem or maybe "normal").
Thanks in advance for your feedback !
Hello my Friend!
Audio Booster doesn't do anything with my original French Rom.
I agree: the lack of station name is unpleasant

Do you know ho to keep the light off but device on with the FM radio on?
Hey, this is one of feature I am going to write.
I also want to write name for my favorite stations so I started this FM radio project to write my own player.
However I am not sure if Polaris has same FMS API as Raphael etc.
Can you test it on your device please?
You may need device driver (FMS_API.dll and FMS.dll). they can be found from Diamond or raphael forum.
See my signature for downloading xFM Radio player.
Now we are four.
Five... I miss station name too...
Now six from spain!

How about offering some alternative instead of counting ? Every time i see this thread bumped up, i read the posts, hoping someone would post something meaningful. Yet, all i see is "me too" with a count :-( There are way more than 8 ppl want this, take a look at the views count of the thread.

Another radio application?

I like the radio receiver of Windows mobile, but is there another radio receiver software? If anyone is an expert, please tell me what API I can use for programming to get the radio signal(FM, AM ... not Bluetooth, Wifi, GPRS, GSM, CDMA) for processing? Thank you very much

Thank you for your link . They are very interesting but really they are not the ones I am looking for. Do you know other info or websites about Radio(AM, FM) software receiver for mobile phone or any API to program about that in windows mobile?

OIC - so, you want a software using the built-in FM receiver? I think they're all model-specific - I don't think these radio modules have a standardized interface. You could, however, repost your q to the Dev forum here.
Just a little busy at this moment. Can you move this thread to Dev Forum for me plz ?
Thank you very much.

TMC Receiver since it has an FM radio

IS tmc possible wit this device since it has an internal FM radio for tools like IGO 2008 or something?
Thnx
It should be possible to write a driver that will extract tmc out of rds and deliver it using opentmc. But since there is no such driver yet, one would have to write it from stretch. That would be a huge work to do.
So it would be good to start a new SF-Project... rds for htc
I don't think the radio is RDS. I know it was advertised as such, but I've used the radio quite a bit already and believe me, I've found no RDS option and nor does it autofrequency a channel. es it autostores, but no it doesn't automatically find alternative frequencies for a tuned radio channel.
Grrrr.

It has not to autofrequency a channel to be rds-able. If you get some informations like radio station name, then it is rds.
Yah. Fair comment. I suppose I was just a little surprised that it doesn't automatically find alternative frequencies; for me, it's one of the most useful functions of RDS, especially when I'm on my motorbike or on the train, etc.
I have the Raphael here in the Netherlands.
The radio application is pretty limited but it does show the RDS text which the radio sends like radio station name, traffic info and current playing songs.
Autofrequency is just one more feature brought you by rds. It sends a flag and than your radio can switch over if signal becomes weak. But the application have to support this. If you buy a real cheap auto radio than you'll miss a lot of this features.
But since TMC is only a common RDS package with an other flag, one should be able to use this.

Desperatly need to increase phone volume - WM6.1

Hi all,
I'm pretty new to this forum and it's my first post. I'am also not an english speaker so I'll try to make myself as clear as possible (also hope I'm in the good section).
I recently acquired an Airis T483 smartphone, running WM6.1 (very unknown smartphone, I don't even find a link to show you its charasteristics...).
Anyway, I (and users using this phone) are having a big issue, and the Airis Company doesn't want to help us.
Basically, the phone volume is really really slow. Even with all volume indicators at their max, we almost can't use the phone because we merely can hear the person calling... This is so annoying, because our first use is off course to be able to use it as a phone. And for now we HAVE to use earphones to hear correctly.
We contacted the company Airis and their support and they are saying that the volume is correct and it corresponds to the standards... They keep up saying they are not modifying firmaware and can just replace our phone with identical ones...
So this is my question : Is it possible to find a software (or even write one) that can add "gain" to the volume level (I mean that can increase the volume, even when actually it's on 100%). So we can hear when we are using the phone.
Note : use of the speakerphone is excluded for privacy reasons...
I (and not only me) will be eternally grateful to anyone who could help us, even by pointing us to something we could maybe develop (we have basic knowledge and skills in programming).
Thank you all
EDIT : Found a link on device database : http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=1578

Thank you for the links, but it's not working for me. I explain :
These threads are about the SRS WOW app that could effectively be a solution for me. I had a hard time with this software so I'm going to tell you what happenned :
- First you have to find the good version of SRS WOW HD for PPC with WM6.1 to have it "install" correctly. For me it was the version 1.21 found on one of the links you gave me. It's the only that installed correctly and I was able without a load error like 'ERROR : driver missing'....
- Then, my phone was silent (which was predictable according to the posts of guys who tried it with WM 6.1).
- I did the registry tweaks but it did not work. I placed correctly the old values in the right keys etc... but the phone keeps silent. Hopefully by uninstalling the program everything goes back to normal. I went through all night reading about this and it appears that the soft has compatibility issues with WM6.1 and some smartphone or PPCs (by the way, I know it's a dumb question, but have I a smartphone or a PPC ??? I'm kind of lost :s )
So, at the end, I still don't have found a solution. Pleease I'm beging... Help me find a way, don't do the work at my place, just point me somewhere to look for if you could.
I'm ready to develop something, I'm ready to give specs about my phone (BTW I discovered in the device database that it has Mono sound, not stereo... is that relevant ?), I'm ready to give a dump of the registry and look into it with help of someone... anything that could help.
If you have even just a thought, a lead, please share it. Thank you very much.
P.S : During this long night i found an application called "Audio Gain Tweaker", sounds like a dream... but only compatible with... HTC phones !!! So if someone of you guys needs a gain, he knows where to start searching
Ok, it's definitely a PPC, I got the difference now.
Regarding my problem, anyone has a clue ? What should I do, I mean can I post this thread to the Development and hacking section ???
Up ???????
I did a quick search and couldn't really find any specifics about your phone... try this program... again its made for hTC but is worth a try...

Thanks for your help, but it's same as last answer. This tweak is about a file called AudioPara3.csv which in HTC phones is situated in the windows folder. The goal is to replace it by the tweaked one, but I don't have such file in my phone and placing it into windows folder doesn't change anything ! (I tried off course...)
What do you think I should do ? Contact dev and hacking section ? Is there anyone who can help me finding relevant keys with a dump of my registry ???
