please help - G Tablet General

ok, i'm having trouble with nvflash, I tried to flash a rom with clockwork, and then come to find out i didn't read enough and i wasn't supposed to use clockwork, so now i'm here. I've downloaded the nvflash_windows_20100500, and the nvflash_gtablet_2010110500, (I'm using windows 7) and i followed the directions from the nvflash link that say to extract the files into a "restore base" file, and after this i'm pretty much lost. I'm not sure what to do after this, can anyone help? I'm sorry for my newbness but i probably need step by step directions for a newb, thanks guys.

Butchconner also put this up for apx usb drivers!!!
Go to:

P. S. -- BTW, this thing is about three layers of directories deep. When I pointed my updater to it I tried to get to the subdirectory where the .inf file is -- "USB".
P. S. S. -- Also, there is a long narrative of my nvflash experience at the end of the TNT 5.0.0 sticky -- page 380 post 3798 in Developer forum. Tells it all.

[Q] Step by Step GTnT Tablet mod procedure?

Hello there,
This is my very first post, having just purchased a G Tablet yesterday. I don't have a problem with modding the tablet. i just want to make sure that I follow the proper steps. sorry if this is already posted somewhere. There is just SO much info here, it's hard for my small brain to wrap around it.
1) Install clockwork recovery
2) Install uodate.zip(?) for Tnt
30 instructions for installing the above.
Is that it?
What would i need to revert to "stock" in case I muck it up?
I am excited to do this tomorrow, so any guidance will be greatly appreciated. I am in awe of the talented people here.
Thanks in advance.
Mark
no, root it first.
google 'g tablet rags'
i am with you...i wish there was a "install tnt light for dummies"
....ive commented on this elsewhere and never get a good answer....
like
1. turn on gtablet that you just bought.
2. now push the home button
3. now push the blah blah button
4. now you should see the giggle button
5. push the giggle button...
6. goto you laptop and download gigle 5.0 from this www. giggle 5.0com
this way an idiot like me could do it!!
none of the " zip file 2.3 then encrypt 3.4 and backflash 5.3 to a sd micros next install .509 giggly zip to kernel text into a gigabyte flash drive root file"
seriously wtheck is all of that! lol i really don;t get it but would like the update
Perhaps this might help...

That is the order. The first page of the stickied threads are usually all the instruction you need. They are the ones with the thumb tack symbol. Once you do it once and realize the ease you will off and running
Thank you all for your input. I appreciate it.
I was all ready to dive into it this morning, when something told me to make sure everything works first (I just bought it Thursday).
Well, it appears the USB port DOES NOT WORK. I plugged in a USB Flash, a USB card reader - no worky. I called tech support and they said reformat the USB flash to FAT32, boot with it plugged in. Still no work.
So I have a bad unit. So back to Office Depot it goes. DARN.
Bad luck!

installing Android on XDa Serra

I am trying to follow this article to install android on my XDA serra
wiki.flexion.org/XDASerra.html#3.0
I downloaded the android system updates from this site, but all I have is a system.ext2 file and nothing else ?
Am I downloading wrong file? I cannot find anything else that says "android os", so i'm not sure what I should be downloading here.

If I'm not mistaken, the XDA Serra is just a rebadged HTC Touch Pro right?
Have a look here, it's the Android thread for the TP. You should be able to find a complete flashing package there (I even saw a Gingerbread one). This forum has been moved from the front page, but you'll find it under 'legacy devices'
Good luck, and welcome to XDA
Yes it is a rebranded htc touch.
I finally discovered that the ext2 file can only be used on Linux, which seems daft if you ask me as most people wanting to do this will be using windows. anyway I finally found a tool that allowed me to extract the file on windows so I have progressed past that block. However I could not get it working using aforementioned guide.
So I carried on searching and I did find a guide on xda-developers as well and tried to follow that, but there are files missing in the download link on this site, the startup files and folder are missing, as are many other key files so I could not follow that guide either.
I finally found a guide with a working download with all files and got it all installed, selected the right startup file for my phone and got Haret to run, the install seems to happen, but I am just left at command prompt, it doesn't boot into Android. I cannot read what it says on the screen as the text is too small, so I have no idea what the problem is.

Sounds like you're hanging at the bootloader. Wipe the SD card, reformat it and try what you did again. I had a similar issue running an SD build on my HD2 first time. Let me know how you get on. PM me if you need to

Rooting

Never rooted before. Want to. Thinking kernels one click is the best route.
Help me get through it please. What should I install download and on what order. Thank you so much
Any rooting method will involve you using ADB so to start you should download that.
Eclipse (Not 100% sure if this is needed for the use of ADB or anything but its always a nifty program to have)
AndroidSDK - This is needed to download ADB on your computer.
Then just follow Capts instructions in the script you can find here.
Check the first part of the instructions tho that read "If the above number ends in 605.6 or 605.9 then you can root". If your phone doesn't meet this requirement than I would suggest using JCase's method.
Thanks....ok do I put those on my PHONE or on my PC?
Those are all programs for your computer. The only thing you will be putting on your phone during the root process are the 2 different RUU's you download. Well, there are some other files but you will be pushing those to the phone via ADB.
Check out this guide on using ADB, I am making an assumption that you are using Windows.
Exploits.zip with contents extracted to your ADB dir
PG05IMG.zip
Downgrade RUU
This is where Im confused...and I apologize for my ineptitude on the subject in advance. I have the correct firmware(.6) I have downloaded ADB(its currently updating a bunch of things)
I can see where you may be confused, the download link that Capt had for all his files seems to be broken. It may be beneficial for you to use JCase's method found here instead. Based on the MD5 sums for the files of both methods they are different so I dont recommend using JCase's files for Capts' method.
It might seem a little more overwhelming at first but its easier than it looks and you will get a feel for the process more.
I must be in over my head here.
It's not as difficult as it seems. Make sure you have sdk tools setup properly & your computer can see your phone (adb list devices), read the root instructions 2-3 times, then you'll be ready to take the plunge. Good luck & post any questions you have, there are lots of ppl around to help.

[Q] assert failed: but I believe it should pass - whaddup?

I am late to the jellybean party. I have a photon LTE build number 7.7.1Q-6_SPR-125_ASA-10
I downloaded from http://sbf.droid-developers.org/asanti_c/list.php
delta-ota-Blur_Version.77.8.10-77.8.14.XT897.Sprint.en.US.zip
I have CWM installed and when I try and install the zip I get
Installing update...
assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") =="asanti_c" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "asanti_c"
E:Error in /cache/Blur_Version.77.6.36.Xt897.Sprint.en.US.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
but when I look at the phone with adb I get ro.product.device is asanti_c and ro.product.build is empty
Also
I unpacked the zip which starts as follows:
mount("ext4", "EMMC", "system", "/system");
assert(file_getprop("/system/build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint") == "motorola/XT897_us_spr/asanti_c:4.0.4/7.7.1Q-6_SPR-125_ASA-10/11:user/release-keys" ||
file_getprop("/system/build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint") == "motorola/XT897_us_spr/asanti_c:4.0.4/7.7.1Q-6_SPR-125_ASA-14/15:user/release-keys");
assert(getprop("ro.product.device") == "asanti_c" ||
getprop("ro.build.product") == "asanti_c");
The first assert I only match one of the two in the OR so surely matching one of the two in the second assert should be fine!!!
I really don't understand why this is kicking out?
Apparently I can edit the zip and take the problem out - but it's a machine!! why is it kicking out??
Can somebody explain!
You don't install that zip using CWM, it's a factory reset zip - you install it with RSD lite, as it states in the thread where you found that download...
Edit - that zip will wipe your entire phone, FYI. Wipes all data, everything off the device - including recovery... Which is why you can't flash it in recovery, gotta be in bootloader (fastboot) mode
Official update OTA files are supposed to be installed only in stock recovery, nothing else.
Thanks for the help. I only look at Android every 6 months so I have to relearn the basics every time.
I see this on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2229671&page=11
It is much easier to flash one of the official firmware images, then update to JB.
If I have adb and I have this link
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/asanti_c/list.php
and below which is firmware - right ?
383.2 MiB AAD8E2926A35B5DBF9F5223CF1D4E5FE Sprint US asanti_c-user-4.0.4-7.7.1Q-6_SPR-125_ASA-14-15-release-keys-Sprint-US.xml.zip
Would it make sense to flash it?
How would I do that?
Why don't you just grab the latest FXZ and flash to the latest JB? You don't have to take any OTA's that way.
So download RSD Lite, the JB FXZ file, boot to fastboot, load up RSD and flash the JB FXZ - then you're on the latest, no need to take an OTA.
Then you just need to reflash CWM or whatever recovery you choose.
The less steps the less things can go wrong. So I like your suggestion ... except for the disclaimer that I am on linux. (I don't do windows)
Apparently
FXZ is an acronym for Full XML Zip file and is the format for most dual core Motorola firmware files
ah - ok I am learning - you saying I can do the whole upgrade thing in one fell swoop!? So which is (and where do I find) the latest FXZ for my phone. I do not want to brick the thing! Can I install it with adb - or something else on linux? I am pretty experiences on linux - it's just the android that I have no clue (clearly). If I know what steps / commands to do - I can probably figure out how to do them on linux.

I would not recommend running it on Linux.
Borrow a Windows machine, maybe try a VM... not sure how well that last one would work, but it might.
If you do it on Linux, I don't see what choice you have but to reverse engineer the XML file and manually run all of the fastboot commands - which if you typo something or put in the wrong entry... you could very well have a brick on your hands.
As for where to download the latest FXZ, you already have it...? Read your first post, lol. Just grab the latest, asanti_c_sprint-user-4.1.2-9.8.2Q-122_XT897_FFW-5-6-release-keys-cid9.xml.zip
and that is the latest because of the version numbers .. I did not see the last one was a sprint one - and it does not have sprint in the name - don't make fun of me! (Naw it's ok )
384.2 MiB 88F43A03D313BBCC262DB78F15AC957C Sprint US asanti_c_sprint-user-4.1.2-9.8.2Q-122_XT897_FFW-5-6-release-keys-cid9.xml.zip
Ugh I can do windows if there is a VERY COMPELLING reason
Is this the thing ?
RSD Lite 5.7 http://www.tucows.com/preview/853731
How many steps using RSD ? ( Is it easy /a very compelling reason to go with windoze? ) And is there a handy-dandy guide somewhere ?

There's tons of links for RSD, many are here in this forum.
I'm sure there's a guide... I guess I'll try to find one? It's pretty straightforward. Boot to fastboot. Plug-in USB. Make sure drivers work (yay windoze). Fire up RSD, should recognize the phone in fastboot mode and load up the .zip and flash.
Edit the XML file according to the FXZ thread, and put it back in the .zip. Should have put that first heh.
I really do not think this is that difficult, but the Windoze requirement I guess is a bit annoying.
Thanks for your willingness to help.

I wish I can bottle some of my confusion now, for the next time I am on your side and I am thinking the person I am helping is completely daft. Today I get to be that daft person.
You know exactly where the info is, so you see it clearly. I - on the other hand form some mental representation of how I think that info will be presented - and as it turns out I am completely wrong ... but still that is what I am looking for ... and so I complete miss the info as I scan the page.

Sounds promising. But I am going to need more words to know how. Can I use this from adb in linux? Do I use it directly on the phone? Do I use it as a zip or do I unpack it? And when I've done "it" what will I have. Will I be done or do I still want to upgrade from the phone?
I am eager to learn more - but clueless at the moment.

The first link should be a restorable backup.
Just restore in recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41544242#post41544242
in noobie speak please
I get that this is a backup
But right now I have a file called Q.zip on my computer - not on my phone - and I don't know what "in recovery" means.
I found this
Recovering to Your Nandroid Backup
Option 1 (Without a Computer)
Note: This recovery will only recover your latest nandroid backup (the one with the newest timestamp)
Make sure u made a backup and its in the nandroid folder on your sdcard
Boot up your phone in recovery (Turn off, then turn on while holding Home button)
Scroll down to "restore latest backup" and press on it
Let it work
Once its done reboot your phone and you backup will now be restored!
but I don't see a folder called nadroid under /mnt/sdcard
Is in recovery in CWM?
Based on what is in the zip - looks like I unpack it and make my own dir under clockworkmod/backup/<myname> and then restore it like any other backup - or at least try! And hopefully it fails elegantly if it is going to fail. Will I still be rooted after the restore?

That backup is for OpenRecovery. No guarantees it works on CWM buddy. You'll have to figure out converting it, or switch to Open Recovery.
I've also posted some stock backups with TWRP... But again, I don't know if those will work for CWM or not. Maybe you can convert them?
I as thinking of switching to TWRP - maybe I can replace CMW with TWRP on my phone as it is now. And then restore on of the TWRP backups?

[Q] A Terribly Confused Noob!

Hello:
I am terribly confused and I hope that someone can help me to understand a few things! I am sorry if I don't understand all the links but they seem to go round and round. Right no I have no less that 27 tabs open trying to figure out the first step.
What am I doing? That much I hope I can explain! I am trying to install (if that is the correct word?) a recommended form of Ubuntu onto my rooted Transformer and I am using the Guide "Guide for SBK1 Install of [Win32/64][Dual Boot] Tubuntu for x3Maniac Thread" by TomTcom.
So, to my first question (probably the first of many): This guide was written to help "newcomers", of which I am definitely one. But, right under that statement comes the statement "The Tubuntu installer application will not install the updated kernels for SBK1 devices and the manual procedure in post #2 will tell you what you need to do." Does that mean I'm actually supposed to start at Post #2? But Post #2 assumes I already have "Tubuntu installation directories", which I don't have so I can't locate the two files. So far I have downloaded the file "tubuntu.img.tar.gz" and I have used 7z to create "tubuntu.img" but I can't open that and don't know what to do with it!
I am attempting to be a user of Ubuntu on my Transformer, not a developer - I take my hat off to all of you that have put your Transformers in harm's way developing the techniques and software that I want to use, but the instructions are terribly confusing for someone not familiar with all of the terms!
Any help would be most appreciated and I thank you in advance.
Sparky
I have responded in the main thread. Also, don't treat post 1 and 2 as steps 1 and 2. You need to complete post 1 stuff first.
