I can't find this now for some reason ... but FWIW I called my VZ corporate store today and they had "no information" on price yet ... yet BB knows it's $250, why is this?
I'm assuming it's going to be 249 @ vzw as well as BB? Or do you think VZ is going to hit us w/299 and expect us to do a 50 rebate?
I'm going to get the TBolt and if I end up not liking it I'll just sell it after the DInc 2 comes out I'm scared to get a larger phone, I love the size of my Eris .... and we all know SIZE MATTERS

$250 from Verizon on a 2 year contract, confirmed by V today in a tweet...
This is not the same question as the poster, but it kind of falls under the topic. I was going to order by calling verizon and having them send me the phone(can't get a certain monthly discount on wirefly(so the customer service person tells me)) and they offered to waive the activation fee. But I found a midnight launch here locally and was wondering if those employee's have the ability to waive the activation fee as well? I would try and entice them with buying the same amount in accessories of course.

Verizon retail employees can waive alot of things and give additional discounts. Just say that you really want this phone, but the price is too much. They would want you to be a loyal customer and have you pay $20 less than just walk out.

I wish you the best w/the waiving of the fee .... I recently added a line and they charged the $35, it took a call and then a request to talk to a supervisor .... and many minutes on hold before she came back and told me that, as a one time courtesy they would waive it. They also wanted me to "be sure to understand" that going forward all extra lines would have a fee.
I had to laugh when I hung up 'cuz the CS rep assured me in the first place that I would NOT be able to get the fee waived, even after I asked to speak to a supervisor ... moohoowahhahahahaha, I win! And the fact that she was all *****y about it and I got it waived made it even sweeter!
yay me. From what I understand the store people will tell you they don't have the authority to waive it .... let us know what you find out.

Thank you!
I just ordered from Wirefly.com for 199.99, no rebate required. If you don't mind waiting for FedEx that's the lowest price around right now.
Sent from my Droid using XDA App
Verizon is 249.99 plus a 25$ activation fee at their stores. Just checked at store
Just found it on AmazonWireless
Phone 1: HTC ThunderBolt 4G Android Phone (Verizon Wireless)$ 749.99List Price: Remove $ 179.99Price:
In Stock. Usually ships in 24 hours
http://wireless.amazon.com/HTC-ThunderBolt-Android-Verizon-Wireless/dp/B004M5HB6U/ref=sh_br_ph_1
wirefly is still cheaper. 199-25 for the fatwallet cashback. 175 total
plus using the coupon code you get a free 4gb card
I am eligable for an early upgrade but I think it will only work through Verizons website. Wirefly said I am not eligable and Amazon keeps reporting a problem with my info.
This sucks.
An interesting note: I called verizon to ask why i couldn't upgrade though a third party website and they said I just can't. I asked what their price will be and the lady said she didn't know the price but she sees that there will $100 rebate on it.

and paid 200 bucks.. think there is any way i can get att to give me a better deal since i can get it for free at walmart???
From what I read, the only way you can get it for free is if you sign up for an AT&T account that is way higher than standard.
I could be wrong though.
I thgt tht i could get a good discount on my captivate phone, but the sales rep told me at the ATT store that if anyone was eligible for an upgrade it would show automatically on their account.
He said the ATT software runs some "algorithms" based on the prev history, plans etc etc..
The walmart eligibility requires tht u should be on a plan paying $100 or more for month for the past year and no upgrade has been made on the phone over some period, Additional points if u have a lower rate plan.
Bottomline, not everyone can get the phone for free at walmart. Likewise not everyone can get the $50 off on the $199 contract plan.
My phone cost me $199 + $45 (9.25% on the original price of $499) in California. can anyone in CA confirm this?
Thanks

That's what I paid at BB in SoCal
Why would you pay tax on the full price of the phone? I was only taxed for the $200 price. I live in Arizona though, different taxing methods in CA?
That's how Apple does it too. They tax the highest price.
i was only charged tax on the actual purchase price of $199.99 in socal... but then again, this was a manager override because the stores were having issues with the actual pricing when the barcode was scanned...

So better watch out for this in the first bill

I think you need to change ur signature now.. change status to "Obtained..."

Captivate(d)
I just ordered it from Walmart as an upgrade on my plan.
They told me it has to be the primary phone if it's a family plan. The secondary lines aren't eligible for the free price. I had the old 550 minutes plan, which I had to change up to 700 minutes. After my discount thru work, it was $8 more than I pay now. Other than that, they told me I just have to maintain that plan for 6 months to avoid charged from them, and I'll get the phone for free.
I guess it could come back from AT&T as a "NO" when they check with them, but I checked 6 ways from Sunday with them and they said I was eligible for any upgrade.
Im in CA too, the tax is just crazy
but one way around it is to get your phone off amazon wireless, which doesnt have tax for CA (yet)
technically your supposed to report that in your taxes but no one does

If you buy it through Amazon wireless, you pay no tax in CA.
You could try bringing in a printout of the deal but as its been pointed out there are a lot of stipulations to get the fee price and you are agreeing that if you change your account they can charge you thee full retail price of the phone.

Long story short, I'm on a very fixed income.
My current plan is:
$39.99: 500 minutes (flexpay)NO TEXTING!
$10: 200mb 4g web
$5.99: Handset insurance
Sound like around $57 a month right? Wrong!
After fees and taxes my plan comes to $71 and some change.
I'm thinking about canceling my service, but I get good service where I live and this phone is killer.
Can someone help me find a better deal? I'm desperate!!

Is your contract over or able to upgrade? If so, call T-mobile and while at the first rep ask to be transfered to the retention line. Tell them that you are on a budget and have found a cheaper plan(about $15-$20 cheaper) with a different carrier and with the same rates. Tell them "before I completetly terminate my contract, I was wondering if you guys can offer me something better or similar to what i have found."
This is what I did and before I upgraded my 5 line family plan was about $186 after tax, and now I pay about $168 after tax.

Are you a Cuny/Suny student? If you are then you are able to get 12% off/Month.
If your not, then it should still work.
Just tell the rep that your are either a cuny or suny student and notice that you are eligible for a 12% off/month discount. If you're not a student and the rep asks you which college you go to just tell them of a random cuny/suny. If they ask for an ID number or available college email address then just hang up and try another rep.
I am a Cuny student but when I called in they did'nt ask any questions and just applied the discount to my bill starting with the next bill cycle.
AT&T Premier Account and 3rd Party Retailers (RadioShack). Activation waive possible?
I preordered the HTC One X Sunday morning from Radio Shack (regretted it once I heard Amazon had it for the same price, tax free). Anyhow, a few days later I found out I qualify for an AT&T Premier Account as a student.
My question is, can Radio Shack (or any 3rd party retailer) waive my activation fee like AT&T does since I'm a qualified Premier account? I'd rather not pay those $36 for locking myself in a 2-year contract.
Just call at&t when it shows up on your bill and ask them if they can waive it for you
I'm not sure how much truth there is in this, mostly because I just don't trust the dude at Radio Shack, however, I, too, pre ordered from Radio Shack before the Amazon announcement, and I have a premier account, and what I was told by the manager at Radio Shack was that they don't "charge" the activation fee. AT&T does. If you owe an activation fee, it is assessed by the carrier, and charged by the carrier after the sale of the handset. I don't believe this, mostly because everyone at Radio Shack has told me something that doesn't make sense, illustrating their lack of knowledge about the inner workings of the cellphone industry. I'm hoping that at the time of activation the information shown in the AT&T system will be that I don't owe the fee, and one will not be charged, but there is no way to know until it happens. Might possibly ask AT&T directly what their protocol is for activation through 3rd parties is, maybe they can put a note on the account to waive the fee. Not really sure.
Sorry if this isn't that helpful.

He was right, the activation fee is charged by the carrier, thats why I suggested calling your carrier when it shows up on your bill, because I just found out that not all premier members get activation fees waived, you basically have to call and see if your company or whomever has that included in the benefits, but being a loyal customer helps as well.
Hmm, I'm on Premier account and I never get activation fee wavied by AT&T. In fact, AT&T charges $36 fee for Premier account a year earlier than they did for regular consumer account.

Same here..maybe I'm not asking nice enough
In fact, other than the service discount (I got 23% discount on everything), everything on Premier is more expensive than regular account. All the promotions like rebates and routine $100 off for new customers never apply to Premier accounts.
BTW, the activation fee is charged to your account, not paid at point of sale. So unless they give you $36 credit for your account, you will be automatically charged $36 by AT&T on your first bill.

I too have a premier account.
All you have to do is call in to ATT and tell them you were never made aware that there would be an 'Upgrade Activation Fee' and they waive it 90% of the time.
I literally just did this yesterday and they waived the $36 fee.
The convo went something like this:
Me: Hi I noticed that there was a $36 fee on my account. I wasn't aware that I would be charged for upgrading me phone!
ATT Rep: The sales person didn't tell you about the fee?
Me: No, I wasn't aware of this at all.
ATT Rep: We aren't supposed to waive the fees anymore since we started to charge everyone but I'll waive it just this once.

This is just about right.
I've NEVER paid an activation fee or upgrade fee since I had my first contract phone in 05/06.
I bought the HOX from a physical AT&T store and did not get charged the upgrade fee. 2 years ago I bought from Amazon and also did not get charged the fee. 4 years ago was from walmart and didn't pay it then either. So unless they've changed anything you shouldn't have to pay it even from 3rd parties. Not all premier accounts are the same though...I get 30% off service and other stuff which is my biggest reason for not jumping carriers in 8 years.

I know that. My question is that since my current phone is NOT on the corporate plan, and it seems that to transition to start the corporate plan requires a fresh 2 year contract, it appears I will have to start a new premier account contract at the same time I get a phone.
At Amazon I can only upgrade my phone w/o the ability to modify my AT&T plan. However, once I upgrade my phone, I will be on a new 2 year contract and thus not be eligible to switch to a Premier Account for the next 2 years?
Is that true? I am thinking about cancelling my pre-order from Amazon Wireless and just going to an AT&T corporate store.
I was planning on going into the AT&T store, since I have a Premier account, so I could get the activation waived. However, I guess after reading this I might just get the activation fee waived afterwards.
My only question now is that with a Premier account, will I have any problems doing an upgrade with Amazon? I talked to Amazon customer support about two years ago (when I last upgrade my phone) and they said that Premier accounts could not upgrade through them. Is this true? Anyone have any experience with this? Because I sure would like to pay $150 with no tax rather than $199 plus tax at the AT&T store.
I also am premier account but on top of 24% off plans I also get 30% off accessories and 40% off msrp of any phone and activation fees waived I guess there are differences in premier accounts

Thanks for all the inputs. So, to confirm:
Radio Shack should NOT charge me an activation fee when I go in and buy my HTC One X. The Activation fee is incurred in the monthly bill. Is this correct?
If that's the case, I feel like I have a chance at getting it waived via AT&T. I know Radio Shack would fight this to the death, so I hope they don't have anything to do with this fee.
So I called up T-Mobile yesterday(day the One S was released) and immediately asked for the Retention department. I was forwarded over and spoke to a sweet young woman. I explained that I was still on contract for a few months but I was thinking of canceling. I explained that I have no service the moment I walk into my apartment and randomly where I sit at work. Which is true but I went on to say that I've been using WiFi calling successfully. Although, having to resort to that is frustrating.
I told her I was offered a free phone(Samsung Galaxy Nexus), no activation fee, and $35 less in charges per month if I were to switch to a work plan with Sprint(That last part being a fabrication). She quickly responded that she could offer me a better deal. I could tell that while I was explaining the situation, she was looking through my account and saw that I have been a customer of T-Mobile for just about 7 years. She took a moment to gather approval.
She came back on the line to ask which phone I wanted. I humbly spoke of the One S and she puts me on hold again. She comes back to offer me a lower rate plan than what I pay now, with a higher data limit. She continues to say that the cost of the phone for me would be close to $300 but she had applied a $250 credit on the account so that I will only have to pay $29.18. She even applied that charge to next months bill, and if that wasn't enough, she backdated the rate plan to save me just about that amount on this months bill. So I'm basically getting the HTC One S for mere dollars added to my next months bill.
So essentially, this is just another example of how far T-Mobile will go to satisfy their loyal customers and is further proof that they deserve all those J.D. Power & Associates awards for excellence in customer service.

good price.
i have been with TMo for over 12 years. they didn't want to give me a full early upgrade (I had 3 months left). I told them that I was ready to cancel and move to AT&T. She forwarded me to customer care and they worked out a price on the HTC One S. I'm not too thrilled with it, but it's not too bad.
$249+activation+tax+shipping = $290. That's what they wanted. I told them that Walmart had it for $198. WTH. They applied a $100 credit and now the total is $190. With the $50 rebate, comes out to $140.
Still TMo could have done better. I have two lines and a data plan. Was hoping TMo would take customer loyalty into consideration even more. Oh well, I am ready to jump ship next time. screw loyalty.
Sometime those hard to believe. I was once on a VERY thin line of canceling Tmobile and moving to Verizon (wife gets 20% discount there and her Tmo doesnt work at work due to ****ty building penetration). I have 2 lines and have been a customer for 6 years. Retension department wouldn't give me ANY deal on anything, they just forwarded my call to cancellations department.
On top of this when I was trying to order One S yesterday (I am ONLY 10 days away from my full upgrade by the way) 3 different customer service reps told me 3 different things. I ended up paying $260 with tax + activation fee + shipping and no rebate (or had a choice to pay $300 + get $50 rebate). I have to mention that I did get a line credit for $80 bucks few days ago for roaming mix up where I had to pay Tmobile extra $150 < I still dont know if it was my fault or Tmobile...basically I used Wifi-calling in France to call USA and somehow all my calls were charged roaming fees (And I do know how to use Wifi-calling)
I hate Tmobile reps, their lies, and their new stupid automatic answering service

I kinda of disagree with you here. You signed a 2yr contract, and despite being a longtime customer, you're fully aware you're not due for an upgrade. As such, they SHOULDNT offer you a full upgrade. However, they typically will offer you a discounted upgrade. So you were ready to cancel and pay an Early Termination Fee? I don't see how you're upset, since they were nice enough to offer you something. The other carriers would've told you to pay full price or hit the road with the ETF.
It sounds like you're not having a case of "screw loyalty", but instead, "screw signing 2 year contracts". Were you really surprised at the result?
I see people arguing about contractual obligations and how the carrier can screw you over, but what about YOUR obligation to follow the terms and the period length?

One of the reps from retensions then lied to me that I was not, and he doesnt see it noted on my account, rep before that said that I do have a full discount. In total I made 4 calls and got 4 different results (1 rep just had no idea what to do and transferred my call to some private voice mail)
I just renewed my contract with a grandfathered plan and Corp discount. I was able to get 3 phones, all HTC One S for a total of $200. They basically offered the phones for $199 each with no rebates, then offered initially a $250 total discount which I was able to get them to add another $150 discount. So it's $600 for the 3 phones - $400 credit. The credit shows up already on my account.
I thought about waiting for the S3 but I liked the One S in stores.
Now I am thinking of using the trade-in offer to send a couple of old phones. I am not sure if I am still eligible or not.
The upgrade, activation and shipping fees were waived. I had the $20 preferred android plan on one line. It is supposed to be ulimited but in relaity it has a "soft" limit of 5 GB.
My other 2 lines had the $5 web2go data plan offered by retention 2 years ago and it worked great with iPhones. The 2 lines were switched to the same $20 5GB plan.
Just a note, I called retention twice . My first offer was to pay $350 for 3 phones which I didn't accept and the second time the CSR was more willing to get a better deal and upped the credit.
I also got $10 off my monthly plan for 24 months.
Can't complain.
here's T-Mobile's link to get $100 trade-in for any smartphone or $200 for any iphone.

Not bad. I pulled off something very similar last year to get the G2x on full upgrade pricing despite being only a year into my contract, using the AT&T merger and a threat to move to Sprint as bargaining chips. Got that, and got the One S for full upgrade pricing this year by helping them get some conquest customers from Verizon.
I just got my One S today and came from an SGS2 on T-Mo, all I have to say is wow. Everything about the phone is wonderful. What a well crafted piece of tech. Love this phone. Sense 4.0 is so much nicer than TWiz. My 2 cents.
Does this really work?

Did the same thing a week ago to get my amaze for free. Gave me a 250 dollar credit on my bill. Im on value plan so 200 took care of the phone and taxes down payment, and the other 50 went towards my next month bill. I have a 27 dollar bill next month. I didnt even say I was leaving. I just said I wanted a new phone. She said I have been a customer for 5 years and she would be glad to help me out.
So now I have the amaze. Had a problem with my first one, and I am still in buyers remorse, so there sending me another one tomorrow. Now I have 20 more days to mess with these phone and if I dont like it, all I need to do is pay 50 bux and they will send me the S.
Win Win
This is interesting. I may call them tomorrow because I am eligible to upgrade my line as a part of my family plan. ATT also offers employees of my company a 20% discount on monthly plan. We have 4 lines on our tmobile family plan... 2 are not under contract, 1 is under contract until the 29th, and the other is under contract until September. Maybe I can argue with ATT tomorrow that two are still under contract, but we will pay the disconnect fees (really just one after this weekend) and see what kind of deal they can offer on 4 phones (2 htc one x, sgs2, and a stupid free phone), and then call tmobile to work something out.
I think the ideal situation would be ATT offers me a plan and the phones with a price, and I present it to tmobile as a deal, and receive free phone upgrades for each line. This is farfetched, but if they want to keep our service, what else could they do?

Its consumer to business...the.reps.discretion is.what makes.us.happy or dissatisfied.not."The Company"

Of course the 50 applies. I had a credit of 250 posted to the account and 200 of it went towards the down payment of the amaze ( 149.99, 49.99 tax ). The other 50 went towards next month bill. For me to get the ONE s, I need to pay an extra 50 because the Down payment for the ONE s is 199.99, not 149.99. I been with T-Mobile for 5 years and just signed a new 2 year contract. I dont have any reason to bash them.
Is this Tmobile USA? If so, how did you get passed the automatic menu to a customer retention rep?

I was also able to get enough credits to get the one s for free since they said I'm a valued customer for 5yrs
Just tried this and TMobile says that I'm on value plan so no discounts at all! I have to pay $599 retail price.
So much for being a "valued" customer for 7 years.

BTW incase anyone is going to upgrade to the one x, if your account is in good standing and you have been a customer for long enough (5 years personally) they WILL waive the $36 activation fee
I bought the one x from the at&t corp store. I used the upgrade from a different line which uses a basic phone.
I called att and they canceled the data plan for that phone.
I asked for the activation fee for my upgrade to be waived and customer service guy said he will check to see if my account is in good standing and if I am eligible. He said I was.
He couldn't do it until I get my bill because the fee hasn't been applied to my bill yet but a note in my account for the waiver of the fee was posted by him.
He told me that on my next bill if the charge is there to call and it will be waived
Did you call customer service? Email them? And I'm assuming you do this AFTER you have activated the phone?

+1, and does it matter if you purchased it from a 3rd party like radioshack or amazon?
also the reason I bought the phone from att and not rs or amazon for $50 is because they would charge me their bs savings fee if I canceled my data plan and used the phone with a different line
Guys just call customer service after you upgrade, doesn't matter from where. I told them that $200 for a phone plus a monthly bill was too much money, and the activation fee was just going overboard. She did it without thinking twice.
I ll give it a try and will call CS
