FireFly 2.5 ROM - Cannot Manually Set Date/Time - Captivate General

I would have posted to the dev forum, but can't due to lack of posts.
I'm currently running the following combination:
Rogers Galaxy S Captivate
ROM - Firefly 2.5
Firmware - 2.2
Kernel - 2.6.32.9 speedmod-i897-k13c-500hz #28
So I flashed my phone this morning, after the EST time change, in the following order:
1 - flash firefly 2.5 via clockwork
2 - remove swype (since it was showing expired)
3 - install speedmod kernel
4 - install swype beta
After the flash was complete, my phone was 1 hour behind ... so not reflecting the time change that happened this morning.
So from the home screen I:
1. go into menu > settings > Date and Time
2. uncheck the box for automatic time
My observation is that the 3 boxes for manual date/time settings don't actually unlock.
So right now my text messages are being time stamped out of order (1 hour ahead of my own).
I'd prefer not to have to use the SMS Time Stamp fix apk, and didn't know if anyone else had seen the same thing with the newest version of FireFly.
Thoughts?
Jon

so I did a little exploring using Droid Explorer and the Droid Shell.
Apparently the phone is set to CDT instead of EDT (Eastern Daylight Time), which is odd since I am right near Toronto. That explains the 1 hour difference.
# date
Sun Mar 12 12:45:23 CDT 2011
Since my phone isn't detecting the time zone correctly, and I can't manually set it ... I'm trying to figure out where the time zone is set in android or the syntax for using the date command to set it.

Settings> Date and Time>uncheck use network
That should enable the manual settings.
Caution swyping, read at your own risk

same here..it is really annoying...speacially because here in Chile we delayed the time change for 3 weeks, and yesterday my captivate changed time

that's exactly what i did. Usually the 3 options below (date/time/timezone) become white, which means you can touch them for more options.
After disabling the use network time, the options stayed 'grayed' out such that tapping.
If I switch ROMs, the problem goes away ... which is why I was mentioning it specifically for the FireFly ROM to see if others could test it.

im on firefly 2.5, flashed yesterday.
updated beta swype yesterday
suckerpunch 56 kernel
today woke up phone was dead.
tured it on
TIME WAS CORRECT.
read your post. checked time/date settings..
JUST CHANGED THEM.
dunno how you cant change it....
unchecked automatic, everything became touchable like it should..

Date/Time Format Issue

A few weeks ago, I installed WM6.1 on my Tilt, using vL26_3.53.502.0_WM6.1_PRO_V1 (not sure who created it).
My issue is that now, even though I have set it to display dates in US format, it is still showing them in UK format.
Also, I cannot seem to get it to display 12 hour time, instead of 24 hour time.
Anyone know if there is a fix for this?
Thanks,
Steve

In the future, please ask in the appropriate thread. This is not a ROM development issue, it's an issue with a specfic ROM.
For starters try looking in
HKLM\nls\overrides
in the regsitry.

Searching a bit will help next time, but:
Check under >Settings >System >Regional Settings> and make sure the region is right, and then under Time you should have Time style look like h:mm:ss. If you have HH, that will skrew it up.
Check under >Settings >System >Clock and Alarms> and make sure your home settings are correct too.
Check them both, make sure they're right, and then soft reset, pushing the power button until it asks if you want to turn the phone off.
You need to go into regional settings to make the change in both date and time. Remember for the time to scroll up to find the time ending in tt. Do a soft reset after changing the settings.
BTW - this has been address a bunch of times already.

OFFICIAL Verizon MR2 ROM Problem / Fix Thread

First - MODs, can we please sticky this thread.
Second - This thread is for others, like me, that are using the stock VZW MR2 ROM and would like to have one place to look for all fixes to all the little issues with it.
The official problem list will be listed in Posts 2 - 5.
Discussions are welcome of course. If I have missed an issue, please bring it up. Likewise if you know of a confirmed solution, please post about it and I will update Posts 2 - 5 as necessary.
This is NOT for anybody using a custom ROM (including Mr.X's fixed ROM)
Please take discussions about issues with those ROMs to the appropriate thread.
Remember, this is for actual fixes.. not statements like CHT fixes this ot Mr.X's ROM fixes that, etc..

Have to dial twice?
Is anybody else having this problem? I upgraded to VzW MR2. Now after I dial a number and hit send, the number just disappears and the call doesn't connect. It usually works on the second try, though. Same thing on the first press of a contact or a speed dial - nothing - but a second press works.
It is not a sensitivity issue. The device is registering my press, just nothing happens (or in the case of dialing a number, it erases).
I tried uninstalling things, then hard-reset. It appeared to work better for a while, but then started acting up again.
Any help?

DISREGARD -- this is apparently not an MR2 bug, but rather a result of incompatibility of chevy's vzw fix to saumaun's caller's city/state on dialer.
Bully Dawg said:
could it be a registry setting -- maybe in the phone canvas settings? it only occurs in dialing and nothing else. i don't have any dialer mods (except saumaun's area code on dialer + chevy's vzw fix).

Problem with Arizona Time Zone after MR2 upgrade
Since upgrading to MR2 my phone changes from Arizona to Mountain time zone every time it reboots and connects to a cell tower (time zone remains on Arizona if I reboot in "Airplane" mode). Time zone also changes at some times when I drive betwen cities (or cell towers??). Arizona is an 'offical' time zone. I applied the Microsoft DST update to no avail. I have verified that the weather update registry values match another post also. Any help would be appreciated! Verizon support claims its an HTC/Microsoft problem and will not address it.
Problem: Google Maps no longer integrated with Contacts
Before applying hte MR2 update you could show directions to an address in your contacts with just one click. Google Maps is no longer included in the MR2 update, and even after I installed it thre is no link to show google map directions to an address viewed in the contacts/People listing. Is ther a cab to restore that functionality?

Check in SETTINGS > DATA SERVICES -> INTERNET TIME SYNC and make sure GET TIME FROM INTERNET is checked.
That is all I can think of.

Not that I am aware of
I can't say that this is an MR2 problem but here goes anyway. I keep my phone in a horizontal holder on my belt. When a call comes in it starts to ring. I pull it out of the holster and turn it to portrait. While I turning it switched to a landscape screen and then eventually back to the portrait screen. It's slow so by the time it's done I miss my call sometimes. I have read things about going in to the G-Sensor settings and switching off auto-rotate but I don't have a G-Sensor settings under the HTC menu. I can't believe I am the only one running in to this but yet I have searched and searched and found nothing similar. I know it can be turned off because when I tried a custom ROM it was off but unfortunately, any custom ROM I've tried, and I've tried a lot, always left me with problems that I couldn't live with. Great that they work from some but just not for me.

I have not experienced that, but I use a vertical holster.
I got a comment elsewhere that said it's the magnetic case and that I need to get a velcro one. So, I ordered the velcro one and will see how it works out. I could swear with the custom ROM it didn't do this but if the case magnet is causing it to think the keyboard is being opened then it makes all the sense in the world.

I have seen the magentic case causing the screen to shut off and on as the device is removed / inserted.

SMS showing wrong hour time

Hello, since i switched to cyanogen with rooting and everything, received messages keep showing the wrong time.
A SMS sent at 7 pm will have the time at 5 pm. I even sent an SMS to myself from the phone...same problem, it says i have sent it 2 hours earlier!
GMT in android settings are ok...the sending SMS time is ok but not the receiving one. Why?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
There should be a setting in Cyanogenmod (i cannot remember where it is exactly), try CM settings or maybe in Messages settings, as I was trying Cyanogenmod a few days ago i encountered the same problem, but i fixed it as i told you above.
no such thing...i checked both places. are you sure you solved with that? could you check which options did you tick?
Timezone
I think you have to go into the settings of the date and time, and then change your timezone. It worked for me.
It just doesn't work, i am on GMT +1 which is now +2 because of the change of time. Received message displays two hours earlier time. I could solve the problem by choosing GMT +4 and manually set the time to the correct time...that way received messages display the correct time (two hours later) and my clock shows the correct time...but then every other widget goes crazy because they think i am in GMT +4.....and then display 2 hours late...i am stuck

I noticed this when the time changed for BST last week - I think I got around it by unticking the "Use original timestamps" option in the default messaging app (I use Handcent)

[Q] Sometimes my SGR shows incorrect time, needs a restart to fix it

Hi Friends,
I am on BB Rom with Ardatdat's 4.2 B6 (1G) kernel. For past few days my SGR doesn't show correct time out of the blue. Due to this my alarm doesn't go off in the morning, my call logs are screwed up and in general it is very inconvenient. It requires a restart to fix the time issue.
Following are the settings in Date and Time settings:
Automatic Date and Time : Checked
Automatic Time Zone: Checked
Use 24hr format: Checked
Select Date Format: DD/MM/YYYY
Hide Time: Unchecked
Has anyone else come across this issue? Is there a solution besides the reboot?
Thanks in advance.
Note: I wasn't sure if this issue was supposed to be reported in BB Rom thread or the kernel thread so I have logged it in the General forum. Mods please move to the appropriate thread if required.
Cheers,
Parag

Hmmm i think this is due to automatic time from network. Try to enter time manually.
BtW, this thread must b in Q/A thread.

[Q] How to manually set the time?

Hey guys - searched, didn't find anything.
I'm spending some time overseas for work. I have my phone with me because I use it for a lot of things besides "phone," and anyway I have "wifi calling" when necessary.
But wifi calling doesn't adjust the time, so the clock is way off right now. I cannot figure out how to adjust it, and therefore using the phone as an alarm clock is a challenge. I'm using a countdown timer to wake me up instead...
Is it POSSIBLE to manually set the time? I dug through all the settings and couldn't locate it anywhere.
Thanks in advance!
It seems you are on stock (or hopefully rooted Gingerbread ROM), since you have wifi calling.
It has been a while for me since I ran a gingerbread rom, but if memory serves me right
there should be an option in Settings to adjust date and time. Just un-tick the box that
says something like automatic time update, thus activating the greyed options which allow
you to change the time zone..
If that didn't work, and your phone is rooted, download the free app called ClockSync
which updates your clock. (similar to windows time update server).
Yeah, rolling Valhalla Black. Would love to put ICS but I travel a lot and need the wifi calling.
Like I said, haven't been able to find "date and time settings," but failing anything else I'll look for the app you mention. THX
