[Q] How to manually set the time? - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

Hey guys - searched, didn't find anything.
I'm spending some time overseas for work. I have my phone with me because I use it for a lot of things besides "phone," and anyway I have "wifi calling" when necessary.
But wifi calling doesn't adjust the time, so the clock is way off right now. I cannot figure out how to adjust it, and therefore using the phone as an alarm clock is a challenge. I'm using a countdown timer to wake me up instead...
Is it POSSIBLE to manually set the time? I dug through all the settings and couldn't locate it anywhere.
Thanks in advance!

It seems you are on stock (or hopefully rooted Gingerbread ROM), since you have wifi calling.
It has been a while for me since I ran a gingerbread rom, but if memory serves me right
there should be an option in Settings to adjust date and time. Just un-tick the box that
says something like automatic time update, thus activating the greyed options which allow
you to change the time zone..
If that didn't work, and your phone is rooted, download the free app called ClockSync
which updates your clock. (similar to windows time update server).

Yeah, rolling Valhalla Black. Would love to put ICS but I travel a lot and need the wifi calling.
Like I said, haven't been able to find "date and time settings," but failing anything else I'll look for the app you mention. THX

Well, apparently I am a moron. I went back into the phone and BAM... "date and time settings."
Problem solved. Thanks for the help.

Cannot Connect popup windows - How do I turn it off?

In my house I have really bad reception. Some apps sometimes try to use my data connection to download updates. The problem is, if I don't have any reception at that time, a window pops up telling me it cannot connect.
How can I turn that off? I went through settings and notifications and couldn't find anything. I went through Schapp's Advanced Config and couldn't find it either. There must be a way to disable notification that the phone couldn't connect for data... so how do I do it?
deactivate data connection in comm manager. I use phonealarm which does it every night and have no more "cannot connect"-messages anymore.
Thanks for the reply... but that's not exactly what I'm looking to do.
I work from home so I'm home most of the day. I use my phone quite a bit to for certain tasks. I need the phone to be able to try and connect whenever it wants... I just don't want to be notified if it can not connect.

I haven't found a way to do this. However, I've written a program to handle those popups while using TomTom (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=458342), but there's no reason why you couldn't have something like that running all the time. It wouldn't stop the popups, but it would auto-close them for you within a short period of time.
Do you want me to write that for you?
Cheers,
Steve.
Thanks for the reply Steve and for offering to create an app for me.
But I don't think it would really solve my biggest issue... which is having the popup show every few minutes while I'm actually using the phone. It's faster for me to just click on the dismiss button.
So it doesn't look like there's a way to disable this "feature." You'd think there'd be a registry value to edit or something.
But thank you again for offering to help.

Yes, you would have thought there would be an option for this. A program to auto close the dialog could make it so that it literally just flicks up, and then disappears, but I agree it's not terribly satisfactory.
Cheers,
Steve
What you need is to turn off Auto Connecting, but you have to do manual using some registry edit software:
Change DWORD Value from "1" to "0" in:
HKCU\Software\HTC\ConnectionSetup\EnableAUTODetect

There's no ConnectionSetup under the HTC folder.

Q? Stop Market from Auto Update Downloaded apps

I noticed this morning (tnt 3.1.2) that some of my apps (like youtube) were updated automatically and then a notice popped up. I did go into market and change "notifications" to "no" but it does not say anything about turning off auto update. Am I missing something.
Thanks
Under Market settings for Notifications, I only have the options to:
1) Notify me
2) Do not notify me
I chose Notify me. I don't get automatic downloads.
On the apps that you do not want to get auto-updates, open them in the market app and make sure that the check box is cleared for "Allow Auto Updates"

That is the ticket! You have been thanked
Thought I'd point out I had a slightly different Market settings screen ('had' is the big word, it changed to be like 'normal' now with only the notifications options in it).
Before, mine had a setting above the notifications setting about Market filtering (I didn't touch it, though, was too busy and just thought I'd see what was there since this is the new Market screen).
It's gone now and can't get it back (I don't know what settings were under it).

Same thing happened to me! The filter was there one moment, and gone the next...
Perhaps a new beta feature not yet ready to be unlocked for all?

Problem with Widgetsoid on Android

So I`m new here and if my thread is not on the right place - sorry. And here it is my problem:
I`m using Widgetsoid Switcher Widget and have this very annoying problem that when i turn on something it not works (For example: I turn on my data service, widget indicates that it`s turned on but actually it's not. If I turned it on from the Settings menu the widget indicates it`s turned on and when I stop it from the widget it doesn`t stop). Same with WiFi and GPS... This thing is freaking me out so if somebody can help me it would be great or if you can tell me other app like that one with options for customization. Thanks in advance
Can`t somebody help me?

Hi,
Try to uninstall, install and reboot directly after install (it's important!).
After go to global preferences and check "Disable all apn"
Create your widgets and it will be ok.
Now everythings is fine but Data Service still doesnt't work... Any ideas?
data toggle help
i had the same problem with the data/3g toggle on my htc evo. what you have to do is go to "settings->wireless & networks->then scroll down and make sure there is a check mark in the "mobile network" setting" in order for the widget to control it the setting must first be enabled. it took me and the dev 3 days to find this out.
also if that doesn't work go into the app itself and as soon as it opens it you should see something at the top that says data toggle mode. make sure that setting is set to "APN toggle" and not "APN rename"
hope this helps. remember to rep if it did
Thanks man
No problem

I had a similar problem today, it looks like the data switch in Widgetsoid places a dash in front of your AccessPoint name in order to block data transfer and removes that dash when you click switch again.
After messing with Widget I was not able to connect to net, I installed, uninstalled, etc, and then I noticed that APN list was empty, I had to add the APN again and restart it, I think (as said above) that you need the data to be ON then do a restart in order for Widgetsoid to properly read the status.
If you're rooted, use the new "root method" to toggle data. It doesn't mess with your APN & it works flawlessly for me. It's the first time I've had a data toggle that actually works.
A simple method
FIX = Settings>Location & Security>Select Device Administrators> *Uncheck Widgetsoid
Uninstalled
Thanks to: mr.noobsalot
I know this is an old thread, but where is the global preferences on version 3.4.1 it doesnt appear when I click apply.
Im using a HTC sensation and ICS.
Thanks

Stay FAR away from Widgetsoid. It can slow a Galaxy S5 down to a Crawl. Your Dialer will not function, Your phone will not respond. Its trying to load your phone with Ads or something and keeps your CPU busy, whether its a dual core or quad doesn't matter. Developer does not respond and does not seem to care. After uninstalling this App, the phone feels "new" again.
I believe this app is some type of Spyware/Malware combo. Why does it need access to my Contacts? Something very fishy and the developer never responds. It's a great Widget when it works but certain things about it don't seem right. Uninstalled!

[Q] Missing 'Timeout' menu on "Location and Security"?

I am running Dman's rooted stock UCLB3 with Entropy's DD and Voodoo Lagfix. I love the setup but one this is really bothering me: I can't set the screen security time. I like the screen to go off in 15 - 30 seconds, but I want to be able to decide how long it will be until I have to use the security unlock. Now, there used to be a setting for this under Location and Security, but for some reason it is no longer there. Is it this ROM or is this missing from all 2.3.6 builds (i.e. stock)?
In case you aren't following me, I am attaching two screenshots, one from Samsung's website, the other from my phone. As you can see there is no "Timeout" menu on my phone. Was this somehow stripped from Dman's ROM (not impossible since the android.policy.jar file - the one that I believe is related to this menu - sometimes encounters issues from deodexing) or is this feature just gone from the phone? If it was stripped, how might I go about getting it back?
This is driving me mad right now, so I'd love to hear a definitive answer.
The setting that you are looking for can be found under Settings / Display. It wasn't stripped, you're just not in the correct menu.
No, that is a different setting. You'll notice that the display setting is to determine when the display will go to sleep (when it will automatically turn off), the setting I am talking about determines when the screen will lock after the screen turns off.
There are two programs with similar functions: Delayed Lock and JuiceDefender Ultimate. However, I suspect that the phone setting is still partially alive somewhere because both programs seem to wreak havoc with whatever settings are now default.
Oh, okay, now I understand. That feature isn't available in stock UCLB3, and there were no issues when deodexing.

Thanks. That's basically the answer I wanted. I've been poking through the guts of both the stock and rooted builds trying to find out what happened. It is really irritating that it's not there (well, for me it is!) because the security screen seems to have a mind of its own, particularly if you introduce alternative lockers into the mix.
For anyone who may be interested, you may be able to set the timeout by editing values in the android.policy.jar file in framework folder. Search around, you'll find instructions. I haven't tried this.
The two apps I have found that enable this functionality are Delayed Lock and Juice Defender Ultimate. However, neither app works well with 3rd party security locks such as Go Locker. The lock delay apps trigger the system security screen lock so you may have to go through as many as 3 screens before you get to your home screen.
Sorry, there is one other app: Password Delay. I did not try this because I want to use a pattern lock. PD does not work with patterns.
Yeah, join the club lol. I just learned to deal with it after a while. But I hear you. Tried looking for some alternative ideas... and I just kept unlocking everytime.

[Q] Hateful GoogleNow won't stay turned off

Hi,
I'm running JB 4.2.
I hate Google Now with a passion, and have been trying to disable it - permanently. I simply want a search bar that returns results in Firefox.I never want to be pestered by GoogleNow's notices, or, especially, its attempts to upsell itself.
I've read dozens of posts here in the forums, and *think* I've tried most advice (uninstalling updates, toggling off, etc).
Atm, in my Google Search settings, Google Now *IS* toggled to off.
But, every time I click on the search/quicksearch widget bar to enter something, GoogleNow pops up forcing me to Click "Next" several times, then gives me only two options "Later" or "I'm in".
I want to effectively implement a "Never" option.
How do I make GoogleNow go away, and stay away?
Someone correct me if I'm wrong due to I have not rooted my s4 as of yet but rooting your phone is the only possible way that I can think of and this is not confirmed but know just about everything can be removed via a rooted phone. ....

My phone *is* rooted.
I can make any changes that need to be made.
The problem is finding the right change that works AND sticks.
Try:
ZDbox
its a great tool. look for it at the play store.
its, as far as i know, create offical from xda (or here at xda forum)
I use it on my S3, and you can do alsmost anything with this tool.

And what, SPECIFICALLY, should be done with ZDbox to permanently disable GoogleNow?
