Im realy new to this. I just rooted my phone.
Now from whath i understand thath you can install apps to the sd card if you Partition it,and you need a custom rom thath supports it (right??)
Now i saw on youtube thath you can Partition your sd card using rom manager.
my questtion is
1. is this a good way.cause i know there are other ways.
2.if i Partition trouth rom manager will i just be able to install a rom thath supports app2sd and thaths it.
3.if i do number 2 will i be able to install this rom and have app2sd(i really want it) ,,RCS MixHD v3.0,,
4.on the rom ,,RCS MixHD v3.0,, it says
,,,A2SD version - Fat + Ext3/4, 0.5-1.5GB recommended,, explain please
make partitions from recovery. it's the best idea for this operation. also you can install link2sd from market. it's ap2sd menager with GUI.
just a word of advice, backup up all your apps, (apks and data) and also your media files before partitioning (just in case)
mybackup or titanium backup are both good.

To make partition easier , try partition wizard , u can get it from download.cnet for free . Please note that this is for pc , not android phone . The reason why i would recommended you to use this is because you can resize your FAT partition and make a ext2 partition instead of format your FAT partition . Generally , you won't loss any data on your sdcard with this method . For moving app to sdcard , just use link2sd which is available at market as well as in this forum , just simply search for link2sd . This app is awesome as it lets you to choose app that you wish to move . I didn't change my rom and it works fine so far . Give it a try !

BUT this work ONLY with internal sdcard, not with ext card like the man said
i know that i am looking for a solution since 2 weeks and no way as i seen
Obviously one of the great reasons to root is to "trick" the phone into believing it has more internal mem/move apps to the sd card. I have am first time droid user and am running into limitation issues already. Question then:
is it necessary to partition sd card manually (I am not extremely tech savvy and seems very complex) or is it possible that installing a custom rom (i.e. megatron) partitions the sd card when installed.
Thanks for patience, I would really like to take advantage of this, but can't really find a straight-forward instruction/advise.

I have tried to partition my SDcard.but its slower than install the android to a IMG file. It's so strange.can you tell me why?
hi buddy
thanks .. well i tell you what i did ... my use atools and i make my phone 450mhz and i also use swapper 2 its good and its 64mb ... its work fine ,,, but in first 20 mins its work slow after its work nice ... bcos every thing save in sd , data ,setting,etc.. i play fifa 10 and caligocha ,3d homebattle its work nice ... but first time its work slow after its 1mins its work fast ....oh u need one thing more which make ur phone more fast ... its ADWlauncher ex .. its very good ...
and can u tell me which sd card u r using ?
What is the problem with partitions?
If you divide the sd in several part you will have partitions.
First partition is in fat32 and you can't install system on it.

I'm just wondering why install system on a EXT2 partition is slower than on fat32.
I tried many times, but fat32 is always faster than EXT2.
This is very strange.
And,i flash your latest NBH file which release in the January 13.
I meet some problems.
it stop at
"install modules to kernel"
"to sourceforge"
How to solve the problem?i never meet in the past.
thank you !

i use a 4GB class4 card,
of course,it will become fast after a few minutes.
but FAT32 is truely faster than EXT2.
I don't know why.
I always think running system on a virtual partition(IMG file) is slower than a real EXT2 partition.
But maybe I was wrong.
the image on disk should be slower so it's a bit strange.
You forgot to install modules (look in atools mixer or in this thread)

@我是春哥: the loss data problem is now the big problem and there is one developer who is working on it.
in order to fix "install module" download the androidupdate.tgz from the thread (or sourceforge)
put it in /andboot (sdcard)
go to atools (bse) select your sys location and select apply update.
save the install-seq.sh
put it in /anboot
insert the sdcard in the phone
boot the phone.
OR
put it in /andboot (sdcard)
insert the sdcard in the phone
boot the phone
press dpad
on menu select apply update
and then quit

First of all,i am really happy to announce (for those who came across with my desperate threads trying to solve my battery drain over 3G network issue) that flashing XXJPU Rom + Removing the partitions (swap + external extra storage) of my SD Card solved my problem. Battery is not draining anymore, and everything is working just fine with the stock rom.
The question is : Can i partition my SD Card again (to add internal storage, since i´ve came across the damn "Internal Storage is Nearly Full" message) ?
If yes, will i have to reflash the rom or , do anything else then just creating the partition using the Minitool software ?
Thanks in advance, and thanks again for those who tried to help me !
No need to make a new partition, extend the current one by minitool/gparted
I have o only one big partition used to store normal content. I need to make a new one to use as a extra internal storage space.. So i do need to partition it, all i need to know is if it will work and if i will have to do something else after partitioning it

If you create a partition on your SD Card as EXT2 ( i guess its EXT2 ) ,your OS will use it as internal storage.
Doing this, will solve the low internal storage issue.
I Just dont know if it works on stock roms,it does work on Kyrillos, inDroid, Sumee etc.
@OP i though u already had one partition when you said partition again
if your sd is as it is(just one partition)
then do this
flash g3mod
reboot into recovery
and partition
its the fastest way to get a partitio
then you can use an app2sd/data2sd script (system/etc/init.d)
Or if you have a card reader
use minitool/gparted to partition
shrink the existing one and make a new partiton(ext4)
and yea backup ur data, just in case!

Thanks for the reply : )
I will use minitool since i know how to use it.
After creating a EXT4 Partition, what will i need to actually tell my OS to use it as internal storage ?
Will i need to reflash rom ? Run any script (like Data2SD) ?
Also, is the Kernel or the Rom that actually recognizes the partitions and use them ?
EDIT : Hey @cdesai i just partitioned my SD using minitool creating a EXT2 Partition for internal storage upgrade.
Following again,this tutorial here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=SD_card_partitioning
Titaniun backup is not recognizing the extra space, what do i have to do now ?

Hmm.
ext4 would be a bit better but ext2 is also ok
now keep an a2sd script in /system/etc/init.d
there is a thread in dev section by kyrillos with the script and instructions, use it
or flash a custom rom which already has it
and yes you need a kernel with init.d support, but every custom kernel has that feature(cf-root,fugumod,g3mod,simplicity,etc.)

Hi guys !
Maybe you gonna think ("another partition thread") but I didn't find anything related to my issue so I'll explain it to you :
I decided to partition my sd card. Everything works fine :
- partition in CWM (1024 for ext, 64 for swap)
- copy back my sd card
- configure link2sd (i choose ext4 at start)
- reboot
Then, I wanted to link all apps to sd. It works for some apps (about an half) but the others didn't want to link. I got this error message :
[INSTALL_FAILED_INSUFFICIENT_STORAGE]
Some apps works, some apps doesn't. It was a veritable mess. So i decid to wipe data and start again from a clean install.
So I :
- partition again in CWM (1024 for ext, 0 for swap)
- copy back only Titanium Backup
- configure link2sd (i choose ext2 at start)
- reboot
And I started to backup my apps. All the apps linked to the ext partition except 8-10. I reboot the phone then I could link 2 mores apps. Then again. I do it again until apps doesn't link anymore. So I'm here with an sd-ext partition nearly full (600Mo with 70 app) and an Internal memory nearly full too 20Mo left.
It's very strange because I read everywhere that 512 partition is enough with 100+ apps and I have 600Mo with 70 apps. Can you help me ?
Thanks a lot for helping me to solve that problem
Keru
PS: Maybe I should test S2E script.
Can't solve my problem. Tried with a full wipe and a reflash of CM9, it doesn't work.
When apps is linked, Internal memory fills up too.
Problem solved with S2E and partitionning with Minitool Partition Wizard. Don't know what was wrong. Link2sd or CWM.

Thats the solution, maybe its a matter of taste maybe not but AMONRA recovery as more options like choose your ext tipe, i dont use link2sd along time ago i use S2E in CM7 and CM9 in CM10 davisnt mode they work flaweless.
So i dont now what probems link2sd gives plus with the mods above dont loose any widget...
To use s2e in cm9 with ext2 or ext3 this is the solution...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29366650
If you have ext4 i will explain how i do with amonra recovery if app dont recognize, whatever ext we have in cm9 after install s2e we go to settings install app grant root then settimgs and mount ext as ext4 without jornaling check that box then reboot and app will recognize ext and allow to choose what we want in ext, howevee with ext4 in the first reboot i reboot to recovery and choose ext3 to ext4(i already have ext4 but i do this not to partition ext again but im clockwork maybe if partion sd agaim will work) and when i reboot app recognizes ext4 and allows me to have like i show in the link above....
About link2sd cant help.
Have to go hope it helps.

For CM9 S2e will work. You need to follow the partioning method and then follow the S2E script (S2E) procedure to increase your internal; memory... google it and you will find how to go about freeing internal space using S2E, If you are unable to find anything >>> Hit back ivl fin the link and post it..... if you want to move dalvik cache for more internal space then i dont recommend you on doing that..it slows the phone doen (unless you have class 6/10 memory card)..i suggest you use int2xt+ ...for me its the best out there!!

I'll pm you!
or i will just put it here only..
so basically what it does is that it mounts /sd-ext to /data and leaves application data in internal storage for speed..
im assuming you already know about ext partition and you have partitioned your sd card!! (if you haven't then tell me)
if you want to implement int2ext+ in a rom then download the script from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1716124
extract it..now download the zip of rom you want to use and make a copy of it somwhere else in your hard disk and open it through winrar..remember do not extract it..navigate to /system/etc/int.d in winrar only and delete all everything in the folder and drag and drop the file you extracted from int2xt+ zip..it will do some working and when its finished just close it...flash this modified zip..and you will see internal memory increased in storage (150mb+the size of ext partition u have made)
EDIT:
It may happen that your rom doesn't boot ..so you make another copy of the original rom and repeat the whole procedure except that dont delete anything in init.d folder..
for example i deleted all files from init.d in cm9.1 build#9 (i dont know what will happen if i dont) and it works..i remember that i deleted all files in evervolv but it didnt boot so i copied without deleting and it booted perfectly!!
i m switch to cm9 build8 rom from jaggy,,,so need sum info.
>use tethering pc to mobile...so i can use my pc internet in my mobile???where is this option??
>i read sumwhere that titanium bckup must be avoided ...so wt i use now for my bckp and restore???
>cant i add my facebook birthday's in my phone calendar,as in option in sense 3.5???
>one thing i notice also when my phone is switch off mode and if i connect it to charging then my recovery menu get open,is this ohk??
tnx a lot from vshl2995 ! your method works perfectly  i'm very happy speed and performance is really good :good::good:
just 1 Q , can you tell me if i want use another sd card ,for example 16GB sd card (i'm using 8GB sd card now) how can i do that ???

Oh switching sd cards can be pain in the ass.. Anyway make a partition on ur new sd card (same partition u made on ur old card) make a nandroid backup with your old sd card inserted in mobile.. This makes backup of your sd-ext partition (of course ).. Now copy the whole folder (clockworkmod folder if u are using Cwm and TWRP folder if u are using touch recovery) to your new sd card using your pc or lappy.. Be sure that your phone is switched off or in recovery mode while you are switching cards.. Now when you have copied the backup(s) to your new sd card, insert it in your phone and restore sd-ext part only.. If that doesn't work then full wipe your phone and do a full restore!! Rest of the things in your memory card you will have to copy manually through pc or you can dump your data in cloud and download when new sd card inserted..!

2.any backup u make from gingerbread roms will be useless.. FCs will occur due to compatibility problems.. You will have to install all apps again
3.for contact syncing fb apps itself supports it.. But I use fb contact sync app for it.. It's awesome if you want their pics to be shown in conyacts.. If you want to sync birthdays you can add your fb calender to Google calendar (if you don’t know how to do dat tell me) your Google calendar is automatically synced with ics stock calendar.
4. Now that's atrange.. Never happened with me...

Hi;
i am a noob in the android world and i need a help
i have a sammsung SGH-I857 with 2.2.2 android version & 2.6.332.9-perf karnel version which is rooted
I want to release the maximum possible space of internal phone memoir because it small (177MO ONLY) 89.30 MB of space it used.
I would move them to the SD card (8GB) or remove them if it's possible ,but I do not know how knowing that my phone has never been changed at the ROM or Kernel or Recovery or anything like that
I also read that before anything i should use a custom recovery and make a backup of my current set up, so in case something gets messed up, i can restore the backup and be as good as new!,then install a ROM that can do what I want if it's possible
the problem is that I can not find how I did lots of research, but I have not found those for SGH-I857
so if you could tel me how ,done please & thank you in advance

First, you need to install Mount2SD or Link2SD, it will link (replace) your apps to SDcard. You can find it Mount2SD here and then you need to partitioning your SDcard first, just follow this instruction and you also get Link2Sd from here. I guess these apps don't need custom ROM or kernel to work. But custom recovery, like CWM or TWRP is necessary needed to do full backup (Nandroid Backup) of your current stock ROM.
Well, for custom recovery you can try ROM Manager (It's free app on Play Store), it will help you to install CWM Recovery. Or you can try TWRP Manager (it's also free app on Play Store) to play with custom recovery by TWRP.
Good Luck.

That's the only solution that I know. Just have a try, coz it's fine too if you only have class 4 SDcard.
oK i will thanks
hey , i have the same phone this is what i have done to gain 2go of app memory , root it with superoneclick , partition your sd using minitool partition wizard make one partition fat32 and another linuxswap make them both primary (ps: don't use your phone to partition) then instal link2sd and mount second partition fat32 ....linuxswap partition is the second partiotion for apps.... you are done ...just every time when you install a new app go to link2sd click on the app you want to move to second partition and then click create link. that's it
ps; for sgh-i857 users i lunched a thread for a costum rom!! support it here please : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48720803

There is no current custom recovery solution for the Samsung DoubleTime (SGH-I857).
I am however trying to make this exist as well as a whole other ROM option that may allow Gingerbread to be ran on the device. So far the base of operations has been the thread in which Dardour has posted a link to above. That however seems to be broken. So here it is again: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2580216
Well best of a good day to you.
