[Q]How to get apps back after hard reset? - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently did a hard reset and all my apps are now gone, which was expected. But I thought Zune would sync all my apps back but that doesn't seem to be the case.
I purchased some apps through zune, and they are in my account history. Is there any way I can get them back? I can't buy them all again... (some of them were paid.)
Thanks

Have you connected your phone back to your pc running Zune? Those programs installed with the zune software should auto install when you sync, any others you installed via the phone MP will have to be reinstalled manually but you wont be charged again, when you try to "buy" it again you will be advised you have already purchased it and if you would like to download it again.

Thanks! I didn't know the phone Marketplace did that.

I am curious about this as well. I had a app fail to install properly (doesn't show as installed, so can't uninstall, however it nags me to update, which I cannot do as well) and would like to full reset.

You are good to go, anything you buy is either auto installed when you sync after a reset and you can manually reinstall the others.

Is there a way to tell what apps or games you had previously purchased? I had to do a hard reset because the upgrade wouldn't work for me without a hard reset. Now I don't have my apps or games and I can't remember what I bought.

You can see apps you had purchased on your destop in Zune. Settings - Account - Purchases if I'm not mistaken.

Is this the case with apps purchased via the phone Marketplace instead of the computer software?

What version of Zune are you using? Zune should show "Quick Play", "Collection", "Marketplace", "Social", and "Phone" in that order.

I think I am using older version, its 4.7.1404, my Zune dosent have Marketplace and Social.
When I check for updates using zune software it says I am up to date and when i try to reinstall from website, it stops at 'Checking for Updates' window..

That is the latest version. Have you signed in with your live id? Maybe that is necessary for the marketplace and social sections to show up.

try change ur PC's region to US, should solve the problems.
Or
go to zune.net and login with ur Windows Live ID, there is also a possible that you're not completed the account registration at Zune.net

OMG thank you sooo much.. I changed my region to USA and now it shows up.. so much easy to browse apps and install.. thanks!

That shows all purchased apps and music bought using your account regardless of where you bought it.
Did you sign in from desktop Zune software using your Windows Live ID?

[Resolved] Remove purchased applications from windows marketplace

Yesterday I had to do a factory reset on my WM6.5 phone which forced me to reinstall all my applications. I had a few applications installed via marketplace, but I can't reinstall them because marketplace keeps telling me it can't connect (applications that I had not installed previously using marketplace can be installed without any problems).
So my question is, how can I remove applications from my purchased list ? I checked the marketplace website, but there is no such button and searching the web didn't offer the solution .
I've just installed an update for marketplace, but I still can not install previously purchased (free) applications. It keeps giving me
Error We encountered an error while trying to reach the Windows MarketPlace server

I've already adjusted my time and changed the Aku value from .5.5.0 to .5.3.00. I've even tried installing an older (hacked) version but that didn't work either.
If tried it over edge, wifi and activesync, using different catalogs, nothing works
Btw, I'm now using Marketplace 1.2.1422.0000
The problem fixed itself a few days ago.
Probably was something wrong at the Microsoft side of life

Marketplace apps installing on storage card

If I downloaded an app on Microsoft Marketplace it automaticly install the app on you device storage. Is it possbile to get the apps installed from Marketplace to my storage card. Maybe like the same way OpnMarket works. Before installing they ask if you wan't to put it on your device or storage card.
Did you check the marketplace settings? xD
New version of Marketplace released couple of weeks ago which ads that function, you can also change the country your in so you can download more apps from other country's.

I've updated Marketplace but didn't noticed that. I also use MarketPlace region switch but I guess I can stop using it.

You have to deinstall Marketplace and install again. Somehow there's a bug it's unable to automatically update to the new version.
I personally always install on device and have all my data on storage card. I don't install 500 apps so this is no problem at all. And after a hard reset you're loosing all shortcuts and everything so where's the point?
When you buy something from marketplace, do you have the choice to buy via visa-card or will it be put on my call bill?

App not showing up after buying

Bought Rise to Glory yesterday, after I bought I got a message saying 'you will receive the app shortly' from Zune and then nothing...
I can't 'buy' it again or try to install it again because it says I already have it, but it doesn't show up on the phone anywhere. (Yes, I have looked under games)
Thank you
I think it works on a cycle. I'd hazard a guess and say you've already got it now after waiting for abit?
I usually have my phone plugged in via USB when buying from within ZUNE, which makes it pretty instant. I think i've done an "over the air" install such as yours once, but it didn't really take very long. About 5 - 10 mins.
*Edit*, sorry mis read your thread. Didn't realise you bought it yesterday.
Have you tried re installing it from the mobile marketplace? Just hit buy and it will say you already own this app and ask if you want to download it again
reply
Open the marketplace app on your phone while still plugged into the computer via the usb. a gray screen will popup and you will see something about sync complete. then your app will be on your phone.

same thing I was thinking. Go to your phone and click the Xbox hub... All games should be in there, whether they be Xbox live or not. If your game isn't in there than I say contact MS.

Did you already try searching for the error code listed, or clicking the links in the error message? The error code states that you have some essential services disabled on your computer that help with the updating of your system. These should be turned on.
Try a Google search for tons of solutions.

Not the download button, the microsoft support link, or punch the error code into Google/Bing to get a long list of results and solutions.

You have update services disabled.
If your Windows is a pirated copy, as you seem to be suggesting,
"btw, do we have to install zune on genuine window?"
you probably have the update services disabled to hide your illegal copy from the Microsoft servers. Unfortunately, you need the update services to install certain windows options and services, like ZUNE.
I suggest you get a legal copy of windows.

[Q] Paid apps on new phone

If I change my windows phone with another one, will my paid apps be available on the new phone to download without paying again?

Your apps are associated to your windows live account. So changing phone should not be a problem.

As long as you use the same Live ID, you will get them again without paying. When you go to Marketplace, go to your purchased app, click buy, it will verify that you bought it and say 'You've already purchased this app, do you want to reinstall it?' - say yes!
You can also see a list of your purchased apps (and reinstall them) using the Marketplace website.
You dont have to pay for the apps you already bought if you use the same Live id. To make it easy, use the Reinstaller app for Windows Phone http://www.windowsphone.com/en-US/apps/b9d1115b-2c0d-4e5d-afc6-fa6dcd84dda4
Well..i never bought the paid apps, there were some deals with free for 2 days and i purchased them then. Now, they cost, i thought i could reinstall them on my new phone but it says i have to buy..
Apps are purchased by their ID, a GUID that every app has. It's possible that the free apps you "bought" were using different GUIDs than the normal Marketplace ones. In that case, you can try checking the Marketplace website for the list of apps that you previously installed and try reinstalling the free ones, but if they've taken the copies with the other GUID off of the Marketplace, you won't be able to get them again.
It sucks, I know. The backup/migrate/restore story on WP7 is really bad. I actually raised this issue with Microsoft several times (both as "we need this" and as "this is a reason to no block high-privilege homebrew code; we could do this for you" and received no meaningful response except for one guy I know who works there saying "yeah, this is an issue, but it's not in my area; I sent it on to the right people."
