Welcome to our new WebOS section. Kick back and enjoy.
I have tinkered with the Palm Pixi a while back and it is a genuinely smooth device. I think it utilizes an underrated OS. But as I know XDA - We'll take care of that ^>^
Excellent, I just want to thank you for letting us join the party
Awesome. I've been here at xda off and on for Android stuff. But I'm a WebOS fan and spend most all of my time developing for the WebOS platform. I think it's really going to take off here 'in the coming months.'
webOS at XDA? Awesome!
Just curious, will there be a section for patches? Or is this forum about other things?
new milestone for XDA.
I hope to see more development and mods for my Palm Pre
Thanks!!!!
sweet! WebOS on XDA. i wonder how long before we get WebOS on our HD2s? hmmm... LOL

WebOS on XDA is a nice acknowledgment to this awesome operating system. I loved my Pre Plus because WebOS is solid and imho, smoother and more mature than Android. I absolutely love my Incredible, and all that HTC and the Android development community offer, make it a far better choice right now... but if I could put WebOS on my Incredible I would not hesitate.
Have not been on here since my days with the sprint Htc Vogue.... As a day one Pre- owner, I am really excited to see Webos here at XDA.

Man I gotta say that I am VERY proud to be part of the captivate community. We have alot of wonderful devs and determined people here! With CM7 and MIUI maturing to a rather stable usable state, and I9000 sourced 2.3.3 roms chugging away, things are just getting better and better here all the time :].
Ditto.

I love how active and changing it is. It seems like every developer here is always hard at work to perfect and update their work, something other phone communities don't seem quite so set on doing. I only wish I had enough programming experience to contribute more than downloading, enjoying and reporting the occasional bug, because the more bustling the better.

+1 This seems to be a very close knit community. The devs are quick to respond to changes in software, and tend to, for the most part, show an inspiring amount of patience. I am Proud to be apart of this.

You can help them out in the forums, if someone asks a question you know the answer to answer it, the devs really appreciate not having to micro manage the thread and while they are busy with rom updates. That is what I did to help out, I'm now a member of team phoenix because of it.
Yeah if it weren't for the overwhelming community support this phone would be utter crap. Thanks to the devs we are all here.
yeah True, I wouldnt have liked my captivate so much if it wasnt for this amazing community, thank you guys so much
I hope to contribute in future, trying to learn eclipse...
Im proud as well. I have had my cappy since launch and its so cool to see how this community has grown, and the support from the chefs is great. Im always up-talking this forum to other owners that i meet that dont know the actual ability this phone has.
Now if it only was a light sabor too....
Same boat as broke ass college student so I do what I can with answering questions too.
I got my Captivate at the beginning of the year and I still flash ROMS updates as much today as when I first got it. Its because of all the choices that we have as well as updates (still can't believe we are able to run Gingerbread) that makes this phone great.
If and when I am ready to upgrade to my next phone, looking at the XDA development for the phone is going to sway my decision.

I gotta say I agree, most the people here are to cool. I haven't asked alot of question because I've taken the advice I've seen many times and read read read lol. But when I have asked I got quick responses and never a hard time for asking. So now I try to answer any questions I know the answer to so I can say I contributed somehow. I'm glad I can be a part of the community

mind u i am a big supporter of webOS but its been what > 6 months since the webOS section opened here in hopes of seeing lots of development like rest of the other devices here but so far nada! its too much webOS police out here plus lets face it, its plain simple OS without any apps. I bet people will not stay on ported webOS for more than a week.
hope i prove to be wrong
I just hope the Touchpad changes this. its an amazing device with lots of potential. Adreno 220 sweet for gaming too. I never considered a WebOS device until Touchpad. HP is doing alot of advertising too. One can only hope for the best. I have a feelin TP will pick up though.
I just bought the HP Touchpad. I am looking for improvements also. Hope this thread picks up. So far I am really liking this Touchpad..

I am starting a new project to port webOS over to the iPhone 3G 3GS and 4.
I have a website where i will be posting updates with project info. Also I am looking for someone with Linux experience as i have only a Windows 7 PC.
I need about 3 more people to help me with this.
Any takers?
Please PM if you think you can help thank you.

So you have a website, a blog, a webOS phone and an iPhone. That's a pretty unique skillset. I wonder why no-one with that set of things tried to port webOS to the iPhone before? Once you've got that skillset the rest must be pretty straight-forward, no?
BTW, you can get links to download the webOS firmware from HP's official servers here: http://www.webos-internals.org/wiki/Webos_Doctor_Versions
Note that redistributing it (or any modifications of it) is illegal, so you may want to figure out that small issue first in your project plan ...
Good luck with your endeavour.
-- Rod
Are you being sarcastic, Rod? I suppose he deserves it by the know-how he puts forward. So if I get it right, he just has a website and wants others to develop and get the reward. Pretty nice business plan!
He also has a dream...the same one I have but I have an EVO 3d... Which I think should be easier...
Rod I was thinking can't it be done part way like webpage 2.1 on pre- using meta scripts?

Thanks very much for your offer.
Unfortunately, none of our developers use a Pre- these days for anything other than webOS 1.4.5 legacy testing.
I'm personally using a 1.4GHz 16GB HP Pre 3.
-- Rod
I dont get the point of it. Iphones are expensive and run unique hardware only made by apple. With that expense comes the seamless apple experience ,decent reliability and the proprietary is operating system. If your going to throw all that away, why even pay for the iphone to begin with. Their hardware is really no better than the stuff from htc. Htc hardware on the other hand is well understood and in fact,is very similar to the hardware in the touchpad.
Personally,I dont see the point of webOS on anything now. It honestly has few game changing features. What it does have is a unique UI that many people like. Rather than port webOS to other platforms, why not make a UI for android that takes the best things from webOS and throws out the bad ones, and fixes what needs to be fixed. Then you have something
really great, with a great UI,the ability to run android aps,but without many of the drawbacks of android.
As for your project,I doubt you will get any takers. What I suggest is you simply learn to do the work yourself. Start by downloading a Linux distro and installed it on an old pc.

Hey, Evo4Eva might not have the most polite way of expressing his opinion, but he does have a point!
I don't know how webOS is on a phone, but on a tablet it really is awful. It's immature, unpolished and clearly unfinished. It's actually so bad, that it made a tablet with excellent hardware, like the Touchpad, god awfully slow.
You can browse faster on an old HTC Desire than on a Touchpad. And that really says something, considering the fast dualcore Snapdragon CPU that thing has.
(Besides, webOS is the Flying Dutchman of Operating Systems. It's cursed and destroys any company or hardware it gets close to!)

Hey! Someone with proper grammar and that realizes what is fact and not opinion. WEBOS IS COMPLETE GARBAGE!
I'm going to tell you a fact: You're a fckng troll.
Everything else you wrote is your opinion however.
This thread didn't ask you for your opinion.
This thread isn't about putting WebOS on your phone so please don't interpret it as being about you because nobody cares (fact).
I thought this was a thread about how the OP likes webos not every troll and their brothers looking to put down another user. Now, I am not saying webos is the best in the world (and I am an android developer) I like it (kinda) but I am waiting for the CM team to complete the android port. That is WAY over my head.

Is there any developmental ROM's being worked on for the XOOM wifi?? It seems this would have been the forst working port or AOSP development being the device is pure google.
Solarnz is working on it. He has a video on youtube showing it pseudo working. Radios aren't working but it boots lol. The thread is in the general section somewhere.

First off, unfortunately, I don't see much development of any kind for the Xoom -let alone an ICS ROM. Secondly, the good news is -we are at the top of the queue for an official ICS release. This maybe why no one is bothering to step-up to the plate.
I kinda figured that..yeah it's ad we have probably one of the sweetest and most powerful tablets yet we get shunned like a KIRF from Engadget. Upsets me sometimes to see the editorials and things about us like we are not AOSP and dual core with 10inch screen,,Like were a Touch Sensitive, plastic screened hacked piece of crap...
Glad to know someone is working on a build finally. This by far should have been the easiest build out of them all as it was built on our tablets to begin with.
Well I don't think it was built for the tegra 2, so that is an issue that has to be ironed out. Plus, I am sure there are some driver issues that need to be worked out. I'd assume once an official ICS build comes out for us that will help with the drivers to get everything working. I wouldn't put it past the devs working it now to have done before the official build.

As for being iJobs, that condescending quiff Johnathan Geller, aka The BOY Genius, is a shameless Apple fanBOY. If you went to his site for a review about a product from one of Apple's competitors you could have gotten a more objective review from Steve Jobs himself (R.I.P Steve).

Off Topic:
The hipsters and ijobs all left engadget for the verge, in my opinion. If anything they seem less biased now since the exodus...
On Topic:
The AOSP 4.0 that's out there now isn't optimized for tegra and doesn't include any device support for any tegra devices, so the devs are stuck using Honeycomb binaries for some parts for now. That's left things in a semi-working state, which we are dilligently trying to hack around, but not much more progress is probably going to be made until google and nvidia release source that is truly compatible with the Xoom. It's Google/Nvidia more than Motorola here.
I'll add sources on request, but google specifically nvidia's november 30th statement about the xoom ICS source, and look at dev threads for other tegra tablets (on here and Tabletroms.com).
