What phone to get (Android) - General Questions and Answers

Hello everybody
Well Im getting a New phone at the end of the month since My contract with t-mobile expires.
Now I would like to know what (android) Phone and company would you guys recommend me.
My current plan is (500 min unl.Txt and Data) for $59.99 I think .
Thanks in advance any answer is greatly appreciated :3

Will HTC Its every Good you should try them they have lost of modules which you can chose from and so dose samsung good Luck and all the best

I like my Epic (through sprint) and have been impressed by the Galaxy S line that Samsung put out. Just about every major carrier has one.
I would really look at your plan options. You're going to pay way more money into your plan than anything else. Let your phone choice follow suit.

Unfortunately, the ny asian escort regulations still have its imperfections. The use of Internet advertisements has its own ny asian escorts drawbacks. A certain Internet ad may be legal in one state but offensive to the laws of another. Minority age also differs in every state. Though there are sites that ny escorts prohibit free viewing or limit the viewing of their pages to a certain age bracket, technical limitations still ny escort leave actual viewing discretion to the customers.

Hi,
I also recommend T-Mobile, I’m satisfied with this company’s service. I’m suggesting the following of Android phones:
- LG Optimus 2X (first dual core Smartphone which comes with a 1 GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 dual core processor)
- Motorola Atrix 4G (Dual core Nvidia Tegra 2 toting Android Smartphone which runs Android 2.2 Froyo with an Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade in the pipeline)
- HTC Desire HD

This thread is helpful (well most of the comments). The Motorola Atrix seems to be like a really good phone. Anyone know much about AT&T data plans? Is 2GB a month enough? I'm curious as to why they don't have "unlimited" plans.

Is the size a limitation for you?

Droid Incredible and Verizon, quite happy, older phone though :/

just go with a phone that suports miui rom is the best

Not really

I started with the og Droid now I have the Droid x. I love it but even more so since I started running liberty 1.5. I'm also intrigued by the atrix if its as awesome as it looks to be.

Desire HD

got to agree, HTC desire

I'm very tempted by the Desire S as it's a size i like and the hardware spec is good. I would have to be able to stick CM7 on there though
It's available on pre-order now iirc.

We've been abandoned...Why?

I've been watching all the latest phones recently and see with great disappointment that every good new phone that comes on the market is available only at the US.I live in Greece and the only high-end device we got since the Desire is the Galaxy S(priced at about 650 euros). All those years good devices came out mostly here and now this! What is happening? When will we get anything like DroidX or Evo 4G?Right now I feel very disappointed...

Seriously? The HD2 was in Europe first, the Dell Streak is not avail here...you guys get all the stuff first.
Evo is 4g and CDMA...no one else in world has 4g or CDMA I am pretty sure.
Yep, usually the States are last on the release list. But recently there's been a flurry of new device activity
I don't want good devices to come here without coming there,I just think that it'd be better that good phones came to both continents instead of only to one.And I know that the Evo is 4G and CDMA,but there could be a non-4G GSM version for Europe. And what about DroidX?Will we have to stay with the Milestone, the Desire and the HD2?They are really good phones but why not have better when we can?

I am in the UK and we do got a lot of stuff before the USA but i would say there seems to be a difference in prices sometimes, especially Microsoft they seem to hike up the price in the UK Windows vista and windows 7 for example

Lol!
Usually México is the last buddy...
I wish we receive the releases like in the US
I don't know what you are talking about beacuse the desire looks really good...
I beleive Asia gets them a full year before we do. Then what ever doesn't sell in Japan gets sent to the US and Euro. Then they slap an ATT or Tmo sticker on it and call it the latest and greatest! BTW did you konw your phone was RnD'd for a 13 year old japaneese girl. Turns out they are the most influential users for cell phones. By the numbers japaneese school girls use more cell phones then wall street businessman. Thats why cell mnf.'s test their phones with little girls and not grown adults.
Well,as for Desire being a very good phone I don't say otherwise,I might as well buy one. It's just that there aren't many options available for high-end end devices which is a little bit discouraging. Why don't we get devices like the Evo or the DroidX even now?I don't complain because we didn't get the best devices first, but because we didn't get them at all and I haven't heard any clues or rumors that they will come here.
UK Phones are always better than our US phones lol

By the way "gamise ta"(not gamiseta,it's two words) means "**** it" or something like that!Sorry about the vocabulary, but as we cannot get good phones I thought about giving some language lessons!
Anyway, about the whole situation now...Things have been messed up.I wanted to buy a Desire but had no spare money,so I postponed it.Now that I have the money I see all the newer phones and think that, hell, will I get the Desire?I do like it,it's way cooler and better than my Hero, but new phones have 4.3" screens,8 MPx cameras,HD videos etc...Especially when talking about such non-HTC phones,Samsung's Hummingbird and Texas Instruments' OMAP processors are better than Qualcomm's Snapdragon, and mostly in the GPU part(I do love Sense however and don't know if I can have anything else for everyday use...).So what do I do?Buy the Desire and live on wanting something better or wait with the hope that something better will be available in Europe shortly?I am really confused...
And by the way, don't you think that 640 euros for the Galaxy S is a little bit too much?
Really it just depends on your carrier and thier contracts with HTC, samsung, etc... If they are willing to pay for an exclusive deal then they can have their own phone for a set time limit. If not then they are sold to all the carriers with different brands. Tmo went for the HD2 as their flagship phone, ATT went iphoney, Sprint went Evo4, Verizon is going Droid X, METROPCS went RAZR. lol, funny thing is aside from the iphone they are all the same phone with minor modifications.

They are in no way the same phone except for the Evo and the HD2.The Droid X uses Texas Instruments' OMAP processor which is better than the Snapdragon.Anyway,I am starting to think about buying the Galaxy S.It's probably the best one around here.I will miss Sense, but I give far too much emphasis on my hardware and Samsung's Hummingbird is just AWESOME!I love Sense however...Don't ask why,I just love it!Do you think there will be a port available for the Galaxy S?
All the good phones are CDMA recently. What's up with that?
i would love to have the desire or galaxy s right now!
Well, right now I am between the Galaxy S and the Desire.Would buy a GSM variant of the Droid X if it came out but I don't think anything like this will happen anytime soon...I just hate it how phone companies don't give us any of the new phones!
By the way,for the Droid X...Wouldn't it be much better with some custom interface like Sense? In a phone this powerful the UI cannot reduce performane enough for us to notice. And I just HATE vanilla...!
Amazon Germany is selling the Galaxy S for 455€, incl. VAT. Even with s&h, it should not cost more than 470€ anywhere in the Euro-Area.

Well this is upseting...The lowest price I found was somewhere a little below 600€ and it was from a store I had never heard of,which therefore I don't know whether I can trust or not.Except for the case that it is not yet officially released in Greece and what I found was just some pieces brought from other countries. And now that I think of it it's not that insane as no major store has it yet.Maybe the price will drop with the official release!
I agree! I'm dying to get something like Evo or Droid X but GSM compatible! There's nothing even near them! 4.3 Inch display, 8 MPixel video & HDMI out!!! What do we have? Desire? It even can't handle a simple D1 video recording! Can't run Asphalt smoothly!!! The best we can get is Galaxy S which is so iPhony! No LED flash? Just to release it with flash for Sprint!!! I'm sick of it!!!
There's nothing on upcoming list of GSM phones, just check GSMArena! It's way too obsolete these days...

My .02 on Atrix v. Inspire

I, like many, was thoroughly intrigued when the Atrix was announced and all it's awesome features. However, the more I think about it, the more I will be going with the Inspire. Here is my list why, and feel free to add to it:
- Better quality in build
- Better software support
- I refuse to pay $500 for a keyboard and LCD screen
- CyanogenMod
- Unlocked Kernel
- Overclocking potential
- I do not NEED dual 1GHz w/ 1GB RAM
- Little bigger screen
- Desire HD already has a headstart in Rooting/Modding
I work for AT&T (Feel free to ask me anything pertaining to plans, phones, etc.) and will more than likely buy this phone without a contract since we get 40% of MSRP on devices. I'll just wait when/if HTC releases a dual core phone on AT&T to upgrade.
Also, I am ending my contract with T-Mobile (Although I love them) because of the Cliq XT fiasco. That is also my #1 reason to not go with Moto. Moto don't care about their upgrades, and they make it hard for the awesome devs here at XDA to continue the life of said devices.
I'd like to know if android os can take advantage of 2 cores. Same question for apps. I'd also like to see some total size comparisons between the atrix and inspire
I agree completely! I get an upgrade once a year, why not get a good device then next year see if all of these dual core devices take off. I have had two locked down android devices, and they are infuriating. I use an xperiax10(btw I am running 2.2.1), and while I love the specs of the phone it just doesn't meet expectations. I am going with the inspire, and I will have fun with it!

My thoughts exactly. I was super stoked about the Atrix but the more things have been revealed about it I think I'll be a lot happier with the Inspire. I don't need a laptop dock or a dock for my TV/Monitor. I do want something that I'll be able to mess with, and HTC has shown a history of excellence in this regard. Also, you can't really beat the price. The ratio of dollar to build quality is pretty awesome when it comes to the Inspire, and I don't even really care if it has HSPA+ or not. I'm in an area where I regularly pull 3.5 down and 1.6 up on regular HSPA, so as long as it doesn't get any slower I'll be fine.
Really excited to get my Inspire on launch day.

Much agreed. Going with the Inspire for same reasons. 1 question I do have is that I have yet to see anything regarding different data pricing for HSPA+. Only thing recent I've seen is the increase by 2gb's for tethering. My unlimited data is grandfathered, so im curious as to what i will be told when upgrading, however I as well will buy the Inspire outright as my upgrade isn't till Black Friday of this year =]
Oh and will these HSPA+ phones be compatible on the further developed LTE network? Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
Anyone notice how the 4 buttons on the bottom of the phone are in different order depending on the manufacture! I personally like the order the HTC uses better than Motorola.
So here is what I have to add to the list:
* HTC Sense UI with website services
* Android OS button order
* Dual LED flash
* Cheaper to buy outright and save upgrade credit for when HTC dual core, LTE, Front Camera device shows up on AT&T which I think will be by the end off the year or early 2012.
@danielsaenz so since u work for att, can u also get me the 40% off on a outright inspire? Lol, kidding aside, I'd pick HTC over Motorola all day, hardware isnt everything if your software sux, and that blur crap on motorola is garbage.
@danielsaenz it is true that for this summer at&t is planning to offer the unlimited data plan back?
I have it but I am looking to put it to my wife.

I work at a COR location (Corporate Retail Store) and unfortunately we are very limited in the info that is provided for us. We have a system called MyCSP (My Customer Support Portal) that is where we get most of our information at. Thankfully, I spoke to my area manager about this and although there is still no official word yet, he's pretty sure that you will still be grandfathered into your unlimited data. However, he does believe that the $20 tethering add-on will apply. Will keep you guys posted ASAP.

I have no idea where you got this from, but it is extremely unlikely. Even the admired Verizon is planning to go to tiered data plans. Sprint is adding $10, and T-Mobile will more than likely soon start tiered plans too.

Appreciate the info it really helps. I did read the engadget article on people threatening to get the VZW iphone, so they were offered unlimited data back, but i dont know how much truth goes into that. Personally, I think it is dumb to buy the iphone 4 this late, but that justs my 2 cents. Plus, my tethering doesn't get interrupted when i get a phone call =] Love my AT&T service.
Through thick and thin I feel HTC really strives in all departments. I love having a tight grip on a phone, the sturdy feeling of an HTC; I don't know who else has unibody phones but the physical feel is always the selling point for me. So what exactly can you do with a dual core phone? Maybe load an app a bit faster in the future, true gaming after some software developments but that will be a while right? I'll have to ask my friend what he thinks of moto but I think i'm set on the inspire.
HTC is the best in total quality Hardware plus Software, the are the closest to the apple scenario out of any make. There quality control and amazing sense UI improve android dont just bog it down like other UI's add that to the amazing materials used for the hardware and there is no beating it!
I pre order the htc inspire. I have being using htc for a long time now and I had to go to Galaxy S beca se. Attt doesn't have any good android for a while and now I can't wait to get one again. Simply love the quality of their phones and the Sence is awsome.
HTC is a quality Product. not saying moto isnt but i havent had any good luck with moto either.. last one died in my arms.. no reason.. *shrugs*
I appreciate the 2 cents. I feel the exact same way, I really don't think that android will utilize the dual core for at least a year maybe more. I read somewhere that Microsoft took something like 3 years on XP to fully utilize what dual core processors had to offer. I personally cannot wait for the 13th. I will be buying the inspire on launch day and selling my captivate shorty after. I think the biggest selling point is the development. I have had to rely on the different spliced together stock roms from the galaxy s and still have never experienced a ROM build from source. CAN'T WAIT!!!

Pre-ordered mine today as well. I was thinking about the Atrix, but then I remembered when I had an evo4g for a short amount of time... and how great that phone was/is.
can you get the ATT Upgrade $50 at raido shack? cause like i could give them $50 and be done with it!
how much $$ is the inspire 4g off contract ?? 449 or 499 ?

WTB Android phones, what are the CHEAPEST ones?

I want to buy a few CHEAP Android phones preferably with stock 2.2+ roms, for the purpose of testing some multiplayer apps across lower-end devices. As long as they are unlocked and can access the Market, they'll work. Rooted is not necessary, and physical condition can be anywhere from mint to poor, it doesn't matter since I'll only be using them for testing.
I didn't post this in the Buy/Sell forum because I was wondering if anyone could just suggest some phones that are cheap that I could probably pick up on eBay or online somewhere ... although if you do have a phone you want to sell for cheap then let me know. Thanks!
Huwai Comet and Samsung Dart are $100 brand new, no contract from T-Mobile. I saw a few Comets sold <$50 on eBay, used.
Probably the only way to get an Android phone cheaper than that is to buy used. They are very low-end QVGA devices. You could get a used MyTouch 3G or G1 for well under $100. Even cheaper than that would be an old WinMo phone that can run Android via Haret.
If you have any interest in a slightly beat up looking MyTouch 3G 1.2 that only works on AT&T, send me a PM.
The HTC Incredible is great, a classic and is cheap. I would check that out.

I'm looking up the Comets now but they're all locked to T-Mobile, which means I'd have to spend more money getting them unlocked. It also looks like the G1's are all on outdated versions of Android, and since I do the majority of my apps for 2.1+ they won't work on it.

I've seen used LG Optimus One variants go for $60-80 on Craigslist. The Optimus One runs 2.2 stock, and you can get whichever one is right for your carrier (there's one for each, even the MVNOs).
Low end you say? I consider the myTouch 3G or slide. If you want something with Froyo these days you might need to step out of your comfort zone. Again, the Vibrant is mid-range so get that. It has Gingerbread coming soon I think.

In my experience, it's best not to take the cheap road when it comes to Android phones. My girlfriend had the Samsung Intercept from Sprint (low/mid-range phone) and it was awful. Everything on it lagged, and simple games were unplayable. If you want to test on some higher-end devices, check ebay for locked phones. They won't be able to be used as phones, but you can connect them with WiFi and use everything else like normal. Another option is running the Android sdk on your computer and testing things that way. I've only played around with it a little bit, but it should be able to do what you need. Just Google "Android SDK" and click the first link.
Verizon locks the phone until you activate for some STUPID reason.

I'm very happy with my dinc. I think Verizon may have some world phones now, in which case I could use my upgrade and then find someone to take contract (I have unlimited data plan).
@matty- I wasn't awareqof Samsung and Sonyericson having poor reception. Thanks for that.
@jaunzems- I'll lookinto the Nokia N8. Thanks.
The Incredible 2 has World capabilities. Why not stick with what is familiar- and quite a but better, IMO?
Sent from my Incredible 2 using XDA App
I think the best thing would be to get a Verizon world phone. The Incredible 2 would be a good choice assuming they carry it. I just checked Verizon's site. Available Android world phones are Droid 3, Droid pro, and Inc 2. None are 4G and I don't really want physical KB so the Incredible 2 looks like a winner. Now I just have to find someone who wants to take over an unlimited data plan.
Thanks guys for the help.

[Resolved] [Q] what is the best 4" android phone?

hi,
this is my first thread. right now I have a Galaxy Mini and planning to buy some high end android device. I like music so much but I dont like a huge android phone (Sensation XE, eventhough I love Beats) and I don't really like the Xperia either. so my question is what is the best android phone which has screen size about 3.7~4in and also dual core processor?
camera is not my biggest consern.
thank you
update:
nevermind. I found my dream phone, it's called Motorola Atrix. it has 4" display, 1gig of RAM and dual core processor. Im getting it shortly.
thanks for the comment and suggestions. I really appreciate that.
cheers
Personally i would go with the HTC Rezound. in my opionion htc phones are the "best" for running any rom in my experience. it seems that people are more dedicated to making new roms for any htc phone and making improvements but thats only my opinion. it has a dual core and is 4.3 in display (hope thats okay). it also comes with the beats audio. its lightning fast and runs on 4G LTE and much more little tweaks for an htc phone . you can also go with the google nexus it runs on ICS and all google. i have tried the ICS roms myslef on my HTC Inspire 4g and i have to say i love them. ICS is amazing and very fast. but if your main focus is music the google nexus is not a good fighter for it. those are the two phones that im looking into buying soon.

Im from Indonesia. every single phone sold here is sim/contract free, so I have such a freedom to choose (maybe thats why I confuse). can you please suggest me a phone that will last for at least for 2 future updates 4.0 >5.0? a dual core will be great.

I agree. but I do mind with the screen size. I like Desire S, but its single core. do you think that LG Optimus 2X will be able to be updated to at least 2 future update? regarding its 512MB RAM.
Nobody can trust LG about updates again
You dont like xperia but looks like the best in market for you is xperia ray.

hi,
this is my first thread. right now I have a Galaxy Mini and planning to buy some high end android device. I like music so much but I dont like a huge android phone (Sensation XE, eventhough I love Beats) and I don't really like the Xperia either. so my question is what is the best android phone which has screen size about 3.7~4in and also dual core processor?
camera is not my biggest consern.
thank you

If your main focus is music, then it would be most recommended to have a look at HTC Sensation XE and XL. If you live in a place where there is Verizon network then HTC Rezound isn't a bad choice either.

Here in the US, there are only a couple of phones that fit your criteria. There's the Atrix 4g, which has a 4" qhd display, with a Tegra 2 dual core chip, and 1gb of RAM.Some people might say the Atrix sucks, but I had it, and it was a solid phone. The other option is the iphone 4s, but I hate iPhones, so I can not attest to them.
Being in Indonnesia, you probably have access to Sharp and NTT Docomo. I know there are a couple of dual core phones with 3.5"-4" screens.

those phone are not available here. and yes I could've bought the iPhone but its too boring for me. I like Android because its customization. too bad Motorola indonesia only sells Razr, Defy, Milestone and Xoom.

thats kinda break my heart. Optimus 2x seems to be the perfect phone for me. butI think more apps and games will require the latest android version in the future, dont they? at least I want to keep this phone for 2 years.
the reason why I dont like xperias is the timescape... I just dont like the phone in general.

The Atrix is a world phone and would work in your area. I have access to them. They sell for aroind $275 USD here. The shipping would probably be the deal breaker for you though.

is that factory unlocked? if the shipping cost is less than $75, then we have a business.

I can get it unlocked for you. You will have to do some research concerning shipping. The zipcode is 01373.
If we decide to do this, it will be done by the rules. I will create a Want To Sell thread, where all the details will be laid out. Let me know.

I went to the DHL site today and got a rate quote. It says that the shipping cost from CONNECTICUT 01373 to BANDUNG 40379 is $145. I dont know if this rate quote is right because I wrote these following informations:
Weight: 5 lbs
Junior Box (or something like that).. so Im start to thinking to buy two phones at once. And the other one beside Atrix that I wanna buy is Samsung Skyrocket, what is the price of Skyrocket anyway? Thank you
"Sometimes when I close my eyes I can't see"
Htc evo 4g internet won't work. Gives error code 129
I recently purchased an HTC EVO 4G rooted and with the custom Rom Energy installed by the previous owner. Problem is since I activated the phone days ago the internet won't work. When I turn it on it reads Error Code 129- unable to establish a data connection. The phone will make calls and receive calls and I can text. However when I try to launch internet explorer it says to make sure your device has a signal and data connection. I called Sprint and they tried to walk me through the manual prl update but the rom I run doesn't have a system update setting so I can't manually update the prl. I have a 3G signal on my phone so the techs at the store told me that my internet should work on a regular phone. The tech suggested that I remove the root. Does anyone know what the problem could be? All help would be greatly appreciated.
For anyone else reading this thread who might like another opinion, I own an LG Optimus 2X which fits the bill in the original post, and with ICS installed it really comes alive! Is down to £199 RRP in places too so could be a good dual core phone for on a budget soon!

If a 4.3" screen is too big fir you, a 4.5" screen is going to be HUGE. Skyrockets are here go for about $380-$430usd. As for the shipping quote, try using 2lbs as a shipping weight. Shouldn't weigh more than that.

This is the wrong thread to post this question, but because you actually tried to help yourself first, before asking this question, I'll help you. First thing to do is call Sprint and give them your IMEI# so they can register the phone to your account. Then ask them to push the internet settings to your phone, then ask them to refresh their system. After that, pull the battery from your phone, replace, and power it on, and try connecting to the internet.
If that doesn't work, you might want to restore your phone to stock.
BTW this might be a stupid question, but are you sure you have a data package on your account?
