hi,
this is my first thread. right now I have a Galaxy Mini and planning to buy some high end android device. I like music so much but I dont like a huge android phone (Sensation XE, eventhough I love Beats) and I don't really like the Xperia either. so my question is what is the best android phone which has screen size about 3.7~4in and also dual core processor?
camera is not my biggest consern.
thank you
update:
nevermind. I found my dream phone, it's called Motorola Atrix. it has 4" display, 1gig of RAM and dual core processor. Im getting it shortly.
thanks for the comment and suggestions. I really appreciate that.
cheers
Personally i would go with the HTC Rezound. in my opionion htc phones are the "best" for running any rom in my experience. it seems that people are more dedicated to making new roms for any htc phone and making improvements but thats only my opinion. it has a dual core and is 4.3 in display (hope thats okay). it also comes with the beats audio. its lightning fast and runs on 4G LTE and much more little tweaks for an htc phone . you can also go with the google nexus it runs on ICS and all google. i have tried the ICS roms myslef on my HTC Inspire 4g and i have to say i love them. ICS is amazing and very fast. but if your main focus is music the google nexus is not a good fighter for it. those are the two phones that im looking into buying soon.

Im from Indonesia. every single phone sold here is sim/contract free, so I have such a freedom to choose (maybe thats why I confuse). can you please suggest me a phone that will last for at least for 2 future updates 4.0 >5.0? a dual core will be great.

I agree. but I do mind with the screen size. I like Desire S, but its single core. do you think that LG Optimus 2X will be able to be updated to at least 2 future update? regarding its 512MB RAM.
Nobody can trust LG about updates again
You dont like xperia but looks like the best in market for you is xperia ray.

If your main focus is music, then it would be most recommended to have a look at HTC Sensation XE and XL. If you live in a place where there is Verizon network then HTC Rezound isn't a bad choice either.

Here in the US, there are only a couple of phones that fit your criteria. There's the Atrix 4g, which has a 4" qhd display, with a Tegra 2 dual core chip, and 1gb of RAM.Some people might say the Atrix sucks, but I had it, and it was a solid phone. The other option is the iphone 4s, but I hate iPhones, so I can not attest to them.
Being in Indonnesia, you probably have access to Sharp and NTT Docomo. I know there are a couple of dual core phones with 3.5"-4" screens.

thats kinda break my heart. Optimus 2x seems to be the perfect phone for me. butI think more apps and games will require the latest android version in the future, dont they? at least I want to keep this phone for 2 years.
the reason why I dont like xperias is the timescape... I just dont like the phone in general.

I can get it unlocked for you. You will have to do some research concerning shipping. The zipcode is 01373.
If we decide to do this, it will be done by the rules. I will create a Want To Sell thread, where all the details will be laid out. Let me know.

I went to the DHL site today and got a rate quote. It says that the shipping cost from CONNECTICUT 01373 to BANDUNG 40379 is $145. I dont know if this rate quote is right because I wrote these following informations:
Weight: 5 lbs
Junior Box (or something like that).. so Im start to thinking to buy two phones at once. And the other one beside Atrix that I wanna buy is Samsung Skyrocket, what is the price of Skyrocket anyway? Thank you
"Sometimes when I close my eyes I can't see"
Htc evo 4g internet won't work. Gives error code 129
I recently purchased an HTC EVO 4G rooted and with the custom Rom Energy installed by the previous owner. Problem is since I activated the phone days ago the internet won't work. When I turn it on it reads Error Code 129- unable to establish a data connection. The phone will make calls and receive calls and I can text. However when I try to launch internet explorer it says to make sure your device has a signal and data connection. I called Sprint and they tried to walk me through the manual prl update but the rom I run doesn't have a system update setting so I can't manually update the prl. I have a 3G signal on my phone so the techs at the store told me that my internet should work on a regular phone. The tech suggested that I remove the root. Does anyone know what the problem could be? All help would be greatly appreciated.
For anyone else reading this thread who might like another opinion, I own an LG Optimus 2X which fits the bill in the original post, and with ICS installed it really comes alive! Is down to £199 RRP in places too so could be a good dual core phone for on a budget soon!

If a 4.3" screen is too big fir you, a 4.5" screen is going to be HUGE. Skyrockets are here go for about $380-$430usd. As for the shipping quote, try using 2lbs as a shipping weight. Shouldn't weigh more than that.

This is the wrong thread to post this question, but because you actually tried to help yourself first, before asking this question, I'll help you. First thing to do is call Sprint and give them your IMEI# so they can register the phone to your account. Then ask them to push the internet settings to your phone, then ask them to refresh their system. After that, pull the battery from your phone, replace, and power it on, and try connecting to the internet.
If that doesn't work, you might want to restore your phone to stock.
BTW this might be a stupid question, but are you sure you have a data package on your account?

With the SGS II not coming to Canada anytime soon, Im looking for a different android phone to play around with and probably end up keeping in the long run. I was dead set on getting an Atrix purely for the power of the phone and the lapdock accessory, after seeing most of the reviews saying that I was better off getting an actual laptop for the same price and could do far more itself, Im kinda leaning off the Atrix trail atm. So I was thinking about either the Nexus S or the HTC Incredible S. Or should I still go ahead with the Atrix (Even though that pretty little bootloader still aint unlocked)?

Skip the Atrix as the software (and Motoblur) is terrible - the hardware is amazing, but it feels crippled by the crappy software, The HTC Incredible S is a nice phone, IMO it doesn't excel in any one category, but overall is a pretty good device. Note that if you are into modding, the Incredible S has a locked bootloader and root still has not been achieved on it for the Bell version.
The Nexus S is pretty good, but is missing a couple of things I like (LED notification light and an SD card slot), but it is a stock Google phone and should be great for modding. I'm currently on a SE Arc - overall, I think I prefer it to the Incredible S and the Nexus S.
BTW, some of the UK sellers are now selling the Galaxy S II if you want to pick one up.

Yes, they would. Check out clove.co.uk and expansys for more information.
If the Sensation has the same camera (8 MP) as the Incredible S, then I would suggest that you look at alternate camera's. While it's great to have a 8MP camera, the Incredible S camera is not as good as some of the other 8MP camera's.
Personally, I would lean towards the Galaxy S II!
i'd go with the nexus s

I think the SGS II costs about $680 (GBP440), not $900.
Anyway, I found the software on the Atrix bad enough to sell it a couple of months into ownership. There are a few issues on the Rogers/Fido network with the Atrix - e.g. capped upload speeds (max 384kb upload), issues with displaying Caller ID with name and issues with wifi hot spots. The hardware is amazing, but I wish I could install HTC Sense on it (never going to happen due to a locked bootloader).
It's your call in the end, but maybe it's better to wait for the prices to come down.

Yea was doing a bit more research on the Atrix and found out that issue as well. When you say $680, that canadian or US? The cappy i have right now, got someone to buy it for $500. So I guess forking out $200 more shouldnt hurt.
I will go for Incredible S. Why? Just preference. What I normally do is if you really can't decide, head to the shop and try the feel of the phone.
If you are leaning towards hardware and stuff, then of course would need more advise on those who had hands on experience with it.
Just my 2 cents.

I ordered the SGS2 through Clove, but you can also choose Handtec or Expansys.
I would pick the Nexus. That thing is faster stock than you're ever going to need it. SGS2 seems like a good pick but so did the first Galaxy S phones before they came out.

I have the HD2 right now. Is the Sensation worth the upgrade? There is obviously not the HUGE dev community behind the Sensation in comparison to the HD2...
Easily worth the upgrade due to the much, much newer architecture. Even locked it has *AWESOME* written all over it.
There's no development on Sensation right now, as the means to unlock it has yet to be released.
This is (along with the Evo3D) HTC's new flagship, so it's bound to have proper development in time.

I would suggest you go for the Samsung galaxy s2 unless you are a die hard htc fan
I had a hero and HD7 and thought I d jump ship and see how samsung phones work
Quiet happy , won't say its all goody but you can easily update to new firmware without the need to root via a software called ODIN
Already on 2.3.4 and never been happy..
Also I think the camera is slightly better than sensation
Just my thoughts
If possible go in a store and play with them both, you may get a bit of any idea of which one you fall in love with

TMobile USA doesn't have the S II yet unfortunately, and to be honest, I'm not sure if they're even getting it. I could get it off NewEgg or eBay but from what I hear, all I will get is Edge, not 4G.

I don't have HD2 or owned one, so i don't know if it's big upgrade. Maybe someone else can answer that. But the Sensation and the EVO3D are the 2 new flagships of HTC. So there is a good chance there will be a huge community, and a lot of roms and other stuff for both of them.

Im not sure about the GSII but everyone knows about the Hercules. It might have a 4,5 inch display and a different chipset but nobody is really sure yet. Its actually rumored to have the Adreno 220 which will probably be a lot faster than it is on the Sensation due to the ****ty HTC drivers and not having a UI with useless eye candy.

Maybe so, but it all depends on how u use the phone. If all the apps and games are still running good, why upgrade. That would be my thought. It's all personal.
But if you want to upgrade, because you want to download stuff a second faster or load apps/games a second faster, or whatever reason, this phone will be a nice upgrade.

Yeah, I mean the HD2 supports 7 meg HSDPA, but I usually get about 2...The thing that attracts me, is the better camera, and dual core CPU.
I was using an Android flashed HD2 up until I dropped it last week and shattered the screen. I had ordered a new digitizer from fleabay but when it arrived it was damaged so I got impatient and ordered a new Sensation instead. I just got it today and, even though I was more than happy with the HD2 and had no plans to upgrade, I have to say I'm very glad I did. The HD2 was is a very awesome phone but after using the Sensation it now feels like it was v rough around the edges. The Sensation is silky smooth - and that's while we're still running on stock!!
I say upgrade. You'll not regret it.

Thanks for the input. And with TMobile planning to upgrade nationwide network speeds, maybe it's not a bad idea. Part of me still wants to wait to see if I can get the Galaxy S II...
Decisions decisions....
I've gone from HD2 > Sensation. Got the HD2 as soon as it came out.
The Sensation is fantastic...a huge leap from the HD2...obviously much faster/slicker...much nice to look at and hold, screen is so much better than the HD2 it's not funny.
Development will come soon
Hi everyone,
I'm buying a new phone this weekend and not really sure what phone would be best.
I've read many reviews and watched many YouTube videos.
Would you recommend buying an SGS2, although it's a year old? I love almost everything about the phone, but am weary to buy a phone that will quickly lose support.
However, the HTC One S, along with the obvious removable parts issue, also has a wi-fi calling issue, which if unfixed, renders the phone almost useless in my apartment.
Would love some suggestions. Do you think the SGS2 will continue to be sold over the years, and updated accordingly?
Do you think HTC will fix the wi-fi calling issue, although they've already sent out a fix for it that didn't work?
Also, and I realize this is a bit of blasphemy, but I do not plan on rooting my new phone.
Thanks to anyone who replies!
One S... just root it, some roms have a fix for it... plus OneS has a nicer UI unlike Samsung ICS which looks ugly

I do love Sense 4.0. I played with both phones today, and I think Sense 4.0 is the most intuitive Launcher(?) I've ever used.
However, I am wary to root the phone, as I have already bricked my HP Touchpad (drained battery issue) and my phone is obviously much more important than a $99 tablet.
So, keeping stock, is the HTC still the better phone? And could a new launcher (I've been hearing good things about the Apex launcher) improve the Galaxy S2 experience?

It's much newer and has a beautiful oxidised metal design compared to samsung's plastic designs.

Go for HTC. Its a quad core processor phone. Its much more faster than the S2.
Thank you everyone for all your replies!
Just when I thought i had made up my mind, I'm now re-thinking the One S!
It is a much nicer phone (aesthetically) no contest. It's also faster. And, of course, it's brand new.
The S2 now reigns supreme in the expandable memory contest. But, with Googla Music and Dropbox, do I even need that extra storage space anymore?
And if developers have found a working fix for the wi-fi calling, it's only a matter of time before HTC sends out an official fix as well, right (I've heard the first fix that was sent out was near useless)
Thanks again for your help!

While the One S is a much nicer phone in it's build quality, and HTC Sense is way better than TouchWiz, remember that the One S has a pentile screen that's too low resolution for it to look good. Even a completely white screen looks sort of pixelated, and it's very obvious when you look at the Google search results.
Compare the phones side by side before making the decision is my advise. I'm not sure if I would live with the screen on the One S if I paid for it myself.
The problem is not which phone to get it's your carrier. I was a customer of T-Mobile for years and even the loyalty plan paled in comparison to anything Sprint had to offer. Am now a happy customer of Sprint and wouldn't even consider Verizon or AT&T as they are now going to be doing away with the unlimited data plans (which is pointless considering everything you do on a smartphone uses data). Might have to take a look at some HTC phones next time around though, lots of good reviews here.
You should wait until next week to see what you think of the SIII. It's so close to releasing, might as well see if it's worth your time too.

This is for the U.S. T-Mobile, which doesn't have the One X yet.
However, the One S has the Snapdragon 4 vs. the Galaxy S has the Snapdragon 3.
I don't know how that translates to speed, though.
Go for ons s
I have a galaxy s2 and I am telling you that I am bored with it
I installed 7 launchers and the best is launcher pro sense mod
So I think that one s is much better and the dual core krait are the strongest out there
And the htc sense is a great experience you won't get bored with it

Of course I know. They are simple to unlock, and if I'm not mistaken there are methods here on XDA that allow you to unlock certain devices via the bootloader/fastboot. Gfree for instance was a free method that unlocked the MT4G for other carriers. And one can easily convert a ATT, Sprint, or verizon device if they have the time. There are actually many guides that tell you how to flash CDMA phones for other carriers, like Sprint to boost/virgin m.

Yes, it is a long story...I must say it is the most durable phone I have ever owned. I ditched my Sensation because it was always laggy without high clocks, so I eventually became frustrated to the point that I just sold it. The G1 is barely tolerable for anything besides calls, which is why I'm holding out till the holiday seasons for some phone deals, I'm hoping that the Nexus will fall below 300. It has been at least 6 months since I sold my sensation, and my friends did make fun of me for the g1. :crying:

I own an HTC Amaze and it's fits your requirements. It is a 4G capable phone with an 8MP/2.2fs camera with Gingerbread with an OTA update to ICS. It is not a slider, but obviously it is touchscreen. It is not an LED phone, but you will not find LED phones anywhere.
Price is close to $300 now, and I'd expect in a few months for it to be at that price. It's on T-Mobile and can have the SIM card unlocked.

Hello people I am an owner of HTC Desire S and time has come to retire my phone and upgrade.
I am seriously considering getting the ONE S so I have a couple of question that you proud owners of it can probably answer.
1.Should I buy it even if I cant get the version with the S4 chip?
2.What are the major problems you have with the device?
Thanks in advance for you help
I just got my One S like about a week ago and I love the phone.
I have the S4 version and have not tested the S3 version. I would say even the S3 version, it should definitely be faster than the Desire S. While S3 is a little bit old, It maybe hard to tell unless you are extreme power user. I think in day to day use like browser, main interface, etc. the performance should not be much difference. I used to have rezound with the S3 chip and I cannot tell much difference. If you got one of the custom rom, then you would sure get hte best performance.
There is no major problem as far as I can tell. The form factor is really nice, so slim, yep hard to image after seeing so many htc phones are so bulky.
Don't get it if you can't get the s4 IMO. There are barely any devs for s3. You are paying the same price as s4 owner and getting an inferior product. I know s3 is fast but its still not an s4. If you are not planing on rooting your phone and running custom ROMs on it,then I think its OK to get s3.

You should definitely get the s4 model it is faster and you will notice the difference if you go hard on the processor.
Also as the lad said, there aren't that many devs for the s3 model. Meaning that you might not get some of the roms/tweaks availiable for the s4 version.

As another person looking at getting this One S, how can I tell if it has the S4 when I'm in the T-mobile store with it in my hand? What other useful information can you more experienced One S users provide to help me make the best phone choice?
I have read some reviews stating there is a problem with maintaining signal or the phones drains the battery rapidly. What say you?

Yes, buy it. Fast, smooth, looks great. Had it for only a couple weeks but no problems. Running CM10 and it works great on this phone.
Do try at all costs to get the S4 though as it's the best processor out right now.

Speaking as someone who's just come directly from the Desire S I think you'll love it. The screen is so much brighter than the DS, bigger than the DS and it's so fast. The camera is fantastic in out door conditions especially. Some of the photos it takes you would honestly think were taken with a 12mp dedicated camera instead of a phone! Battery life is very good for a dual core phone as well. Lasts me on medium use about 1day 14 hours and 2days if I barely use it. My biggest problem with the device would be the pentile arrangement on the screen. You can see the pixels and the screen is very blueish. That being said after a couple weeks of using it you don't notice that at all and the screen becomes fantastic it's because your coming from a 3.7 inch s-lcd phone to with a very high resolution to a 4.3 inch super amoled display with a fairly good resolution so it takes a while to get used to. Go for it though, you won't be disappointed.

One S is better.
1. You won't need to do a battery pull. Ever.
2. Rooting is easy, look at some tutorials in the developer section (DO NOT ASK QUESTIONS IN THAT SECTION!! EVER!)
3. Menu button in built into the software. If you root you can remap any keyto be the menu button.
Hope I helped.

Eh?
It is still far better than a desire S even with the S3/adreno 220 and better than the XE (apart from storage options and you have removable batteries with them), excluding the GPU/CPU:
- far better camera overall, absolutely no contest between them
- way better build/perceived quality and IMO design/looks (subjective this)
- better screen overall (although some might prefer LCD on the XE and DS)
- battery life will still be better anyway
- more RAM
- much better audio
- newer device and will be getting jelly bean officially before the end of the year
- also another wee plus is that you will get more money when you sell the one S rather than the desire S and XE in a few months time or a year in order to fund for a new phone
Only reason to get the DS or XE is for a removable battery and SD slot and perhaps a better developing community (no idea what it is like for them)
Buy it, you won't regret it

Hey man you don't need to worry about the battery. It's fairly simple to root you just need to unlock your boatloader with HTC dev and its easy from there. The recent apps Button can actually be mapped as a menu button! It's an actual stock feature and that's how I have my phone. You press recent apps for menu and hold for recent apps
