After trying every rom, modem and so on and so on... i got damn sick of it and went to the store and grabbed myself an Blue-GPS-S3 with SIRSTAR III supporting 20 channels...
You know.. the difference of gps quality is shocking. 12 sattelites at good performance and unbelievably stable. Navigation for four hours straight and not ONE mistake or recalculating required... amazing.
My advise is... get one for those 20 euros and stop wasting your time on trying to get your gps to work.. cause on top of this.. using bluetooth uses less battery then using internal gps asfar i noticed.
Hope this helps someone making this step, you do lose being able to see gps status in navigations progs but Sygic Aura + CoPilot worked flawless, il make an list of working apps
[update]
Okay drove over 800km in two days and what a trip and for once.... yes for once i didnt feel stressed about my galaxy abandoning me somewhere, altought i must admit my gps has not the greatest name and reputation it did its work excellent no matter where i came.
Some info.
APPS:
Bluetooth GPS mouse = GREAT. worked flawless with my external GPS
Bluetooth GPS Provider i didnt have a chance to test with yet, i will soon and report about it. One thing i must add, it remembers your dongle/mouse/external gps and with its simple ugly widget you can quickly turn it on and let it connect with the dongle. unlike gps mouse you gotta open it and turn it on and choose dongle.
NAVIGATION:
Sygic Aura = working great, it was however required to switch GPS on first and wait 15-30 sec to make sure it had atleast 1 signal before starting aura navigation, else it wouldnt pick up the signal
CoPilot = just awesome, worked directly wether i loaded gps mouse after or before.
Google Navigation = no idea, I assume it works as google maps works to with it.
Waze = no idea, I still have to try it but as waze worked most flawless on internal gps i assume no problems at all with external gps
KNOWN PROBLEMS
Programs do not see the GPS status.. signal, altitude etc etc. weirdly enough the navigations work flawless and they do not complain about having no signal either.
SHOPS:
My shop does only send in the netherlands, however... mine is a Qtrek Blue GPS-S3 with a SIRFSTARIII chip. Basicly ANY bluetooth gps mouse works with your phone.
could you please give me a link to where you bought the item?
I've looked, but couldn't find cheap ones..
i got a co-pilot bluetooth gps unit £8 from amazon and its great. a bit tricky to set up but well worth it.
re
800km in two days.. man am i exausted but what the heck.. that thing works briljant! il update first post with info
Cheers. This is great to know. Too bad Amazon UK has horrible bluetooth GPS seller reputation. I will have to find one on ebay instead.
I use the Nokia LD-3W gps module and it is fantastic. Easy to set up (takes seconds). I use the bluetooth mouse with "bluetooth GPS provider" which is a free download from the market. Very accurate with google maps, copilot etc.

Hi,
Has anybody found some handy GPS software for 710? Tom tom works fine, but I need something for off-road. I tried OZI-explorer and it said my device is incompatible. Is there any other options?
Thanks,

TrekBuddy (Java) use the same maps as OZI.
The best one is Garmin Mobile XT for Windows Mobile Ver. 4.10.40w, here is the link.
You can find almost for every country detailed garmin maps with streets in towns and house numbers.
You can also instal from the same link "Garmin Mobile XT Free Basemap" and "Garmin Mobile XT Support Files" (languages and voices).
I've installed it with card reader and it works fine.

Globalsat BT 359s
Hello,
I try to use garmin xt (basemap) but my bluetooth gps (BT 359S Globalsat) is not recognised.
Somebody can help me ??
You need a full version of garmin xt if you want it to recognise non-garmin gps recivers.
and where i can found it ???
Why not google maps ?
http://www.google.com/gmm
I use Gramin Mobile XT.
I bought a garmin module GPS 10 Deluxe. I paid 59 euros include high detail map of europe. Work great. Installed also POI of speedcameras and autovelox. work great.
i use tom tom and route 66 ... but i think garmin is the best. very detailed maps.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have run Tomtom 5.2 for a long time (2 years) and had no problems with it.
Recently I had a look for something more up to date, I tried Route 66 which ran ok, and had free traffic updates, but it did use up all the free memory on my phone and ocasionally crashed.
Then I tried Garmin XT, this seems to run ok, and also has free trafic updates. I also like the way it beeps if I go over the speed limit. The auto zoom out on the map is good as it shows a nice overview of the route.
So far Garmin XT seems to beat Tomtom (5.2) with speed alerts and the free trafic information.
Not tried Tomtom 6 - which is intended for a touch screen, but can work with fake cursor apparently.
One problem I have with Garmin XT is that I am unable to update the maps/poi's on the card with activesync - the Garmin poi update program crashes with an error relating to a PPC class its trying to call - I guess its because its a smartphone. But I can update the SD card by connecting it to a card reader on my PC.
For off road I use GpsVP free from http://gpsvp.garminmapsearch.com/ which uses a variety of maps and also downloads from google and other map sources.
Before that I used (and still use) GPSdash2 from http://wimobi.com/gpsdash/overview.sph2.php?pid=sph2 but its not free and I have not seen an update fro ages. unlike gpsvp which is much newer and being updated all the time with new features.
hi. i just started a new threat about route 66. think i wasnt allowed to do that? but its a whole app on its own, so maybe i am?
anyway, just want to know if route 66 mobile 7 is suposed to work on vox? i installed it but after starting the app the program terminates itself after a few seconds of displaying "gps" with the moving sircles around it. it seems that everyone advises to use garmin instead? problem is finding maps tho.. maybe ill check it out. internet is so slow in s.a. i use my vox as a dial up edge modem. so it takes quite alot of time to look for something on the net as im really inexperienced
Hi All,
when i download satellite , it expires after 7 days.
is there any fix to keep the satellite for longer period ?
or any other method to never expire the satellite .
thanks
You don't download satellites
What you're talking about is QuickGPS which is meant to support a faster GPS-fix.
YOu can set within the options of QuickGPS, that your data is updated either after a certain period automatically or always when you connect it to your PC.
It needs you internet-connection.

yes it is QuickGPS which i was trying to refer to.
it expire after 7 days... then my tomtom does not work.
can you please give me some tips how can it be fixed ?
thanks
Just enter QuickGPS, click menu and alter the update settings to fit your needs.

I really don't see your problem. When I enter QuickGPS I see this screen:

There you just have to check the box within the red rectangle. Then you'll never have to care about QuickGPS anymore - updates work automatically then.
thats just quickGPS data to help u lockon to data faster
He thinks that his tom tom doesn't work anymore after 7 days. correct me if i'm wrong.
I really don't see what your problem is here. The QuickGPS data is simply there to get a faster GPS fix. The data will automatically download every 7 days, and you can change the settings. It's very simple.
If TomTom is the problem, then contact them. But I highly doubt that QuickGPS is the problem.
he wants the data not to expire after seven days!
i think he's not asking for an automated update.
like the others said: quickgps is just for getting a FASTER satellite-fix. if the data is expired, the fix might take (a lot) longer. tomtom will work with expired data, but taking a long time to get fix might let you think it doesn't work.
as far as i know, there's no way to "keep" the satellite data longer. it needs to be refreshed after a max of seven days (du to the satellites moving around in orbit and changing their position maybe).
well tecnically the data never realy exspires if you tick all the boxes becouse when ever you connect to your pc or wifi the data will update automatically, so there is no problem?
also i have been using tomtom since my wizard days and yes sometimes you do get the delay in getting signal lock but i have never had any issues with my hd2
thank you guys.
so basically if its expires, my tomtom will work without any problem ?
if thats the case then i think i need to update my hd2. and clear any registry leftover,
thanks again for all your help
QuickGPS Just help GPS fix sooner but GPS can still work without it, In that case TomTom take you longer time to get an acurate fix. I usually start Gmap first, it work with both AGPS(almost get a fix at once, based on your 3g connection), and GPS, when GPS fixed, I start my navigate program. Hope these help.

i do not have 3G connections.. i bought this phone @ full price.
is there any possible way out there to get quick gps signal ?
i do not have 3G connections.. so its a problem for me if the satlite expire after 7 days..
Another advice is to stand still in open ground in order to get better GPS signal (when your HD2 start searching for GPS), usually take me about 40 seconds to 1 minute and a half to get an accurate fix without AGPS or QuickGPS data. It's very quick even compared with professional navigate device.
Satellites don't expire after 7 days but need to be refresh !
Check the activesync box and connect your phone to your PC just before using TomTom then satellites will be update.
I have never downloaded quickgps anyway . my HTC finds me on GARMIN XT

Hi, i am new here thefore i cant post in "One S Android Development"
I KNOW that (HTC one s)Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 has support for GLONASS. can it be unlock ?
anyone known what soundchip it got onboard also ?
Appreciate the help.
Are you sure it needs unlocking? Mine said on the box "Supports GPS/GLONASS". Not that I have any idea how to check.

My Htc one s, havnt arrive yet, i still waiting, i think it would come next week, then i can do the gps testing. It would be nice to hav a good gps.
I am using Samsung galaxy s1 and its worthless in sweden..
Btw i hope Snapdragon s4 get Wolfson audio chips
My HOS IS showing satelites number 69 and 71... are those GLONASS sats
Out of 15 satellites that I could see, 6 were #65 or over. Looks like GLONASS is working fine.
Edit: Just to clarify, I'm in Japan, but my phone came from the UK so is the European model (No One S for the poor Japanese, lol)
So it works completely transparently to the user and does not need special software or adjustments, it will just work by "supplementing" the accuracy reported through the GPS interface and therefore also every navigation software etc. will automatically benefit from it?
That is kinda cool if its the case.
This is going to be GREAT for once i can use "GPS" correctly in sweden, anyone knowns more about the Sound chips onboard the S4 ?

Yup, looks like it. There is no separate setting to "Enable GPS" / "Enable GLONASS". Although rather than being transparent to the user, it is more like hidden from the user. I guess the average user neither knows nor cares about GLONASS, as long as the thing shows them where they are on the map.
I do not get satellites > 28, but total 22 visible and 14 in use.
Don't know if GPS or GLONASS - but 22 are a lot
My HOS consistently sees ~17-21 even when indoors although while indoors I get no GPS lock even though GPS Test says that it uses ~5 satelites. But once I take it to a window it gets a good lock immediatly.
My old Desire and my TF101 only sees ~4-5 when doing the same test. So it seems that the HOS really are using GLONASS too.
Yes they do. With GPS only I never had a situation where I could "see" more than 6-8 sats at once with a mobile and not all of them had a fix/lock because the signal was too weak (only once supposedly had 9, reported by an Audi in-car satnav with dedicated external antenna, but I am not sure if that was fixed sats or just the visible ones). I think as of now I think there are less than 30 functional sats in orbit globally and the GPS architecture hovers around an amount of 32-36 sats maximum (with higher coverage of landmasses and lower coverage on the oceans).
Also, GLONASS will be very beneficial to anyone in the upper northern hemispere, and lower southern hemispheres as the system is of course globally active, but due to sat orbit inclination and distance (orbit heigth) it allows a better coverage of the regions closer to the polar regions, while GPS seem to be more designed to cover the "middle ground" and also have a lower orbit.
And when the US went to war in the middle east, I think I have read about some of the satellites being repositioned to give a better signal feed to the troops and equipment in that area, therefore automatically neglecting the rest of the world a little bit.
This is a really good feature I did not even read about in the reviews prior to purchasing. I pity the folks with the One X who don't have that... It will double satnav usability and accuracy even in less than optimal conditions (cities with high buildings covering satellite line of sight etc.)
I recently put up a new app on Google Play called CellCB and thought I would post here to try and get some feedback on it. CellCB is an app that is meant to behave just like a CB radio in that it will allow you to talk with people within range of your phone. Unlike a traditional CB radio it does not operate on the 27 MHz band, so sorry to the folks who were hoping to use it as an alternative to the bulky unit they may have installed in their car or truck. What it actually does is use the GPS system on your phone to figure out what other CellCB users are in range on your phone and list/broadcast to them over the Internet. Right now it is set to a range of 4 miles but I may make this more/less in the future depending on usage.
CellCB is meant to be simple to use and closely simulate the behavior of a CB radio as much as possible:
Launch the app - Like turning a CB radio on it will immediately start listening for people broadcasting nearby
Hold the "Transmit" button - Like holding down the button on a handset it will broadcast your voice to people nearby
I hope to implement other features such as multiple channel selection, probably 40 like CB radios have, as well as some extras like making recordings and such. For the time being I just have the basic functionality with a single channel to see what people think and understand how well the core of it works. My goal is to keep things as simple as possible and therefore there is no type of registration needed before using it and no special configuration is needed like other apps that perform walkie talkie functionality over wifi or bluetooth.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.binaryroad.cellcb
Feel free to let me know if you have any questions/comments. Since this is a pretty new app you will probably need to find someone else to use it with, otherwise the chances of hearing someone broadcasting nearby your position at random are quite low.

If Google Maps doesn't give your position either then it sounds like a problem with your phone in general and not CellCB. If your aren't able to get your location on Google Maps after a while you might want to contact the phone manufacturer about getting GPS working on your phone.
Thanks for everyone who has been using this so far. I found a bug that would happen with people who were on flaky connections and have fixed it now. Hopefully that was it and things should run smoothly now.
I have made a couple more fixes to deal with some issues for how location updates are done for certain phones. If anyone encounters any trouble with the current system, please let me know.
Nice idea.

Hi,
I have a problem with my mi4c and GPS module.
I compared with redmi 1S a nd Samsung S3 and both of them have better GPS signal.
I have set High accuracy mode and applications has permission to gps.
Is there some ways to detect if my mi4c has defect on gps module?
I am not able to post images so I am posting only links

Doesn't seem to be a problem, connecting to 11 out of 13 satellites is pretty good.
Well it looks like in open are it is not so much problem, but signal is more weak if you compare to another phones.
When I move to center of town it is not very hard to establish gps connection. (I am ingress player and this is important for me)
Can you tell me why Redmi 1S has stronger values even if this is older model and with MTK chipset?
I can try in a week go to town center and try to make some screenshots compared with Redmi 1S and link to google maps or can you give me some advice how to detect what is wrong.... like compare with another mi4c?
Yeah I found out that too... compared to my previous phone (Moto G 1st gen) Mi4c has a weaker GPS reception and causing longer GPS lock.
I'm on Mokee ROM now since I can't stand MIUI and GPS is worse than on MIUI. I managed to make it a bit better by using faster gps apps and gps.conf from MIUI. Also try using GPS status & toolbox app, if that doesn't help at least you got a status notification when the GPS active.
So it looks like mi4c has generally weaker GPS and it is not software or hardware defect, but "feature" from vendor?
I'm under sMIUI and first time GPS lock was very long, but ever since that, it locks in just 1-2 seconds.
Today I was on a trip with car and trying GPS fix...
I recorded video of the screen and very often GPS fix was lost or it was inaccurate.
Video: http://uloz.to/xkEFhqQo/mi4c-mp4
As you can see on the video GPS is useless, I am starting to be disapointed of this model
Route on google maps is here: https://www.google.cz/maps/dir/Zast...3e0!2m2!1d16.3631011!2d49.1879961!1m0!3e0!5i2
Is it possible that the GPS on your unit is defective?
It wasn't that bad on mine. I'm using my phone to track my ride using Strava and the record shows spot on position.
Its really bad on mine. Tried sMIUI, TS CM 12.1 and TS CM 13. Looks like we are doomed
I'm getting awful GPS signal. I connect to 8/13 satellites but my position isn't precise at all -- error of 2.50 km, that's not good at all.
I tried using it today during a car trip and GPS signal would not update.

The GPS is weaker than on my Huawei P8 Lite indeed. Haven't really tested it, but signal strength is a bit worse.
Same here. Rarely get less than 30 feet GPS location
This may sound weird, but my GPS actually works pretty well, but ONLY if I disable all NTP_server=xxx.pool.ntp.org listings in gps.conf. Earlier my phone refused to find any gps satellites, but now that I have all NTP_servers disabled (including the test server...time.gpsonextra.net), everything's working like a charm (this with Mokee ROM).

Awesome! I'm glad if it solved your GPS issues. It's still not the most powerful GPS out there, but at least it works.
GPS is definitely weaker than other devices indoors. Outdoors is okay. This app helped me get a faster lock in MIUI 8.05 stable:
