Hello people of the Xoom forum! I ventured over from the X forums with a quick question for you all: does the Xoom have random reboots? I have been disappointed with how often my X reboots, personally, and would like to know if the Xoom has the same problem. To the best of my knowledge most devices appear to not even experience this regularly. Since both come from Moto it worries me, though.
Thanks!

Been having the Xoom since the launch, no random reboots by self or whatsoever unless I manually do it.

Not a single one here yet and I have had mine since hour one of launch. Very happy with it.
I've had a one or two over the course of time since release day.

None so far
I've had a few, but I also rooted it 2 hours after I bought it so I don't expect it to be rock steady.
None for me either and I've made a point to not manually reboot it often either - I want to see how solid in the long-term it will be.
The only issue I have had (rarely) is with the browser crashing. Its a fantastic browser that beats, hands-down any other tablet/phone experience I've used. But when it gets unstable it gets unstable!
I Picked my Xoom up on Launch day and have not had one re-boot or freeze. The ONLY thing which has thrown up and Error was the Facebook Widget which would force close.
I've had more Forced Closes and Issue's with my EVO than the Xoom, although I have had my EVO from day one too, so it's had a significantly longer test period......
Basically my message is this. The Xoom for me has been one of the most stable and bug free devices from launch ever.
Not one unexpected reboot.
No reboots here. I have had a few FCs which is no big deal.
Cool, thanks for all the replies everyone! Really appreciate it. Looks like I will have a Xoom in not too long.

I have random reboots on the modified kernel depending how high the clock speed is I can prolong when it will reboot
I have the same problem. Mine is rooted and OCed but I still get random reboots a few times a day. It's not because of the OC as I can run 3D games and stress tests all day at 1.5 in performance scaling. A lot of the time it happens when browsing, testing skyfire in full of mode to see if it still happens. I removed all the Widgets, disabled the live wall paper, startup processes you name it. If it happens again I will try to do a factory reset which I would prefer. To avoid. Anyone else?
It has not randomly rebooted but completely froze quite a few times so I had to manual reboot it. I would highly suggest not buying one until some updates are released.

I experienced my first lock up last night after 8 days of continuous uptime.
I was opening Gun Bros. I decided for the 1st time to go ahead and sign in to that filthy Facebook thing it does and when I hit enter it locked while pinwheeling the Loading window.
Fortunately, I remembered the procedure for a reset which BTW is holding both volume buttons and pressing the power button.
First Xoom I got from Verizon never did, second one I bought cheaper has only rebooted randomly once.
I haven't had any reboots either. Granted I've only had it for a day but I'm unlocked, rooted, and overclocked to 1.5ghz. Runs fine except for the stupid facebook widget force close thing that everyone has.

I know theres a poll on issues etc and rebooting is mentioned, but I feel it was too early to poll and people could have voted and had a reboot after...
So question is..... has your phone rebooted? Or just fine?
Also if you could mention how long you had it that would be great....
I just want to know exactly who is having reboots and who hasn't..
Not once on its own.

LOTS of reboots
I have had about 20 in two weeks. I am CURRENTLY getting CONTINUOUS reboots.
It had the LG logo and thinking bar, underneath it said "System checking". Now it has rebooted non-stop (6 times so far as I'm typing).
New phone should arrive on my doorstep within the next hour or so... fingers crossed.
once that I know of. No idea why. It just rebooted while on my desk idle.
In the one week I had the phone (preroot), never. Even after rooting it, never.
Haven't had any issues with mine.
Had 3 reboots in 5 days on my old phone. Nothing yet on new one so far. It has been 3 days. I noticed my old phone was alot hotter than this one. Possibly a hardware issue after all.
Guys, try to turn off gps, I did that and I have 0 reboot and 0 shut down today, I had a lot of reboots and phone turning off by itself before that. I'll see what happens when I charge it tonight and I'll let u guys know.

Theres got to be something thats causing it.
results don't look so good..
Hmmm prerooted I had maybe one and some freezing and lag..
rooted no reboots except running eaglesblood rom and experimental kernel with pauls lag apparentky too much going on there. .
If your phone is rebooting constantly don't even waste your time return it for a new unit. The att galaxy s had the same prob and everyone waited for a fix only to find out it was hardware related....if your in the 14 day window don't even waste your time and end up with a refurb

I bought my g2x a day after launch. For a few days, I didn't experience any reboots. After that they starting happening but not too often. Eventually (by yesterday), it was happening more often. Somewhere in that time frame I did a factory reset to try to improve battery life.
I called tmobile support yesterday and they made do another factory reset and not install any apps. It has been 16 hours without a reboot but that doesn't prove anything, really. First, it doesn't necessarily happen every day. Second, without any non-default apps installed, it may not be taxing the device enough. Third, even if it is an app's fault, it may not be directly the apps fault. Am I supposed to run no apps if that turns out to be the problem?
They will be calling back at three and I'm going to try to push them for a replacement. I'm also having reception issues and the battery could certainly last longer.
None here, gps is not turned off

I am on my 5th G2X... with a build date of 4/3/2011 and I have not had a reboot as of yet with GPS turned on. This has also been the best phone out of all those 5, I have a week left and if I experience problems I will be taking it back. As somoene said dont waste your time your better off returning it then waiting for a fix.

I just took it to the store, told them the problems I was having mentioned the reboots, screen bleed, and data connection issues. Told them I was within the 14days and that Customer Care told me to come to the store and try and get a working phone. I wouldnt talk about the reboots as it may not happen in store if you have screen bleed its easier that way cause you can prove that.
Did you buy it in store, online or over the phone?
Hi all,
Today while I was listening music and typing messages, all of a sudden the haptic feedback of my NS suddenly become very weak...
Weak as in the vibration was not that distinct anymore. It forced me to perform a reboot to make it normal again. Anybody experienced this? I have encounter this the 2nd time already.

I think you'd better write your NS spec. for example ROM, Kernel, etc....
Everything I use is stock
Android version : 2.3.4
Baseband version : i9020XXKD1

Has happened to me as well on stock and deck's t and u rom.
Rebooting fixed it on stock and flashing back to r worked on decks.
I've not noticed it on the Nexus yet, however I did come across this issue on the moment as well as the epic.
Just like anything the battery can only pump out so much juice, the more you run the less everything is getting. so if you have 100% of your voltage and 3 pieces of hardware pulling from it screen, cpu/gpu, and lets say vib, that means you would only be getting 1/3 of full power to each.
Its hard to say exactly what it was unless you were running logcat, monitoring power consumption, and other factors.
Now, the odds are its a software glitch.
yes ive also experianced this only once awhile ago i felt it while typing messaging all the sudden it was just like boom 5% vibration no clue why though
Yep...its happened to me many times. Usually a reboot always fixes it.
Its few and far between, so nothing to really worry about I would guess.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Now that you mention it i am sure i have had this a few times.... never really thought too much about it though
I've also noticed it, although again its rare enough to not bother me, and a reboot always fixes it. Just one of those little fixable bugs I guess.
thanks all,
good to hear this. actually its not that annoying cause this seldom happens.
after owning NS for 6 months this happens twice only so its alright not much of a big problem
I've had my G2X for about a month, and have been experiencing the common issue where my phone randomly shuts off and the only way to get it to turn back on is to pull the battery.
I've installed the GB update, that didn't fix it. Factory reset didn't help either.
Has anyone successfully fixed this issue on their phone? If so, what'd you do? Is there any chance that rooting my phone would correct the problem?
Sorry if there was a post about this, I couldn't find anything talking about if anyone's been able to fix the problem.
Thanks
yes... the onlyhh way to fix the problem is to root! nvflash clock work mod recovery, then flash eagle blood 2.3.3 rom and it is perfect...
Thanks, this did indeed seems to do the trick. Not a single reboot so far after 2.5 days.

My G2X actually restarted on its own today. It was the first time since the first few days I had the phone over a month-month and a half ago. Wasn't really a big deal, lol. It comes back on.
Have been playing with this phone for 3 days now and haven't had any issues (I did install xboarder's stock rooted version). Minor screen bleed is the only issue.

Finally, someone (dmaniscool) who can say they switched to an xda dev'ed ROM and got rid of the lock ups. I've posted many times asking if anybody ACTUALLY FIXED a problem (specifically the battery pull lock up); I got no responses, and someone finally stated it. Great. Next time my wife's G2x locks up, I'm rooting and putting a ROM on it.
Thank you dmaniscool

Will do, so far so good! I had no experience with rooting, and was able to figure it out looking at the guides available on the forum. It kind of looks intimidating, but it's not actually very difficult.
By restart does everyone mean just shuts down? Mine never restarts, it will just shut off.

Mine did both actually, shut down and restarts. But mostly just shut downs, which required a battery pull to power back on.
My 2 will do both - but I think the "shut-off" is a lock up, because the longer I leave it locked up, the less battery I'll have after I do a battery pull.
8 days of both phones not locking up by doing one restart per day per phone.
Since I raised the minimum CPU speed to 389 from 216, I have far fewer sleeps of death
You don't wanna know where this was sent from.
I've tried every ROM and kernel combination possible and nothing actually fixes these problems for me.
Wow this post was scary at first, I had a thunderbolt and no matter what. RUU, Different ROMS, Stock, Kernels, Radios. Changing all that didn't matter it still turns off constantly and doesn't turn back on till I do it meaning no text or calls, basically same as having a phone on silent all the time without even having the luck chance of pulling it out while ringing.....
I am on miui x.26 (whatever kernal that comes with it) and have over 40 hours of uptime. I haven't had a crash yet, I just manually restart every couple of days because I'm weird like that.
Sent from my LG-P999
Well 6 days into it and I've had a total of 2 shutdowns. I don't know if it was a coincidence, but both times were after being outside when it was ~90 degrees out.
This is still much improved, I used to get 3-4 per day on average.
I'm using Eaglesblood 2.3.3. I'm thinking of trying MIUI because it's so nice looking.
For me I did a battery replacement the first time directly from T-Mobile and the phone continued restarting on me. I was just about to request a replacement phone from T-Mobile until I recently purchased a different brand of battery containing the same specs as the stock battery and to my surprise no overheating and definitely no restarts. I feel that the restarts and lockups are due to faulty batteries shipped out with the phones. I'm suprised no one has mentioned this.

Wow, I told the CostCo kiosk girl I was having lock up problems and I had my grandkids with me. She took my phone and pulled the battery - at the same time my grandson stated he had to go to the bathroom NOW. She either looked at the battery or something on the phone under the battery. I didn't have time to ask. She didn't really comment and gave me my phone back.
Hmmmmmm........

ok so do they know what exactly is causing the shut downs or reboot on this phone? i just got mine today and it was pre installed with gingerbread and idk if there is root for the gingerbread build yet. i just want root but no custom rom for me. i love the stock rom. it kicked the crap out of my sensation 4g as far as speed goes in everyday use.
I didn't have any when I first got my phone, right at release. About 2 weeks in I started to get the freezing/reboot issue occasionally. It went away for a time when I started modding my phone with ROMs. I'm currently running Weapon G2X, and for a time had no reboot issues. Now, about 3-4 weeks into using that rom, they are becoming a problem. My G2X now seems to reboot once every couple of days or so, normally when I'm using the phone. I'll be in messaging, hit back, then it locks up and reboots on me.
How are your issues? Still having them or no? I plan to update Weapon sometime in the next couple of weeks, or perhaps give CM7 a go.
Just got mine from CL last week. Have yet to experience a reboot or freeze. Maybe it's just a few batches of G2x's that experience that.
mine hardly ever freezes up to be honest. I am using xboarders tweakd GB rom. But then again, I've never really had an issue where it just reboots itself even before rooting. my phone does sometimes run really slow though.

Really? Slow-ness should definitely not be an issue with this phone. Have you tried Weapon or Cm7?
I've only had one reboot and I had this phone for 5 months. I got a reboot when I was showing my friend. How fast and cool my new phone was. He asked to see it then he pulled down the notification bar and it just rebooted. Other then that one time, never happens.

What reboot issues?
Never had it happen after 5 months of owning the phone.
Stock, rooted, Go launcher ex, SetCPU -> almost no reboots.
Before those steps, quite a few reboots per week.

I've been trough various roms and had the stock froyo in the beginning for quite some time - never had a reboot or a freeze. Only once, I remember, it would not recognize the headphones that I was plugging in and I had to reboot.
I've only had my phone reboot once when messing with SetCPU. Other than that, no reboots. I got my G2x within a week of it coming out and have never exchanged it.
i'm using pure stock so i'm not sure if you want my opinion but i've had the phone for a month now. it was perfect in the beginning with zero issues but up until last week it's been freezing constantly and rebooting. i've had to do three battery pulls and it's rebooted on me three times. and i thought i got lucky with a "perfect" phone i really want to try exchanging it but i'm afraid to get an even worse one and i am not paying 20 bucks to get a refurbished phone that's insane
U should flash newest weapon room, this is great room and will fix reboot bug
I used to get freezing and rebooting all the time several times a day on stock froyo but ever since I started going on nightlies since around #60 I think it was, I rarely have reboots... my wife got the phone on the same exact day and she's still on stock rom with no issues
Running stock since I got it a month ago. No reboot issues. The only freezing issues I have is when I try to use ANY screen capture app. I managed to get one of them to work...once. After that, back to freezing. So as long as I don't use any screen capture apps, I have a smooth working G2x, lol.
I got 2 g2xs. One of them got reboot issues. Called T-Mobile and got replacement and no more complaints. All is good now. Last fewweeks I got flashaholic buy. Flashing different rom every 2days.
Stock Froyo rooted. Used to get SOD freeze and reboots every week. Started daily shutdown/restarts a few months ago - never had either problem since.
I just picked up my TF300 on Thursday and I've been having some frequent rebooting going on.
It seems like it mostly occurs when I open a newly downloaded app and start going through the settings. Everything locks up, then it simply reboots itself. Thankfully, it doesn't take very long to reboot. When I go back in to the offending app, it generally has been working fine.
The last few big tech purchases I've made (laptop, phone, etc) it seems like they've had a few issues at first, but eventually the bugs get worked out and I stop having problems within a couple weeks.
Is this a common issue, or should I exchange it? I have 27 days left to take it back.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2
I had a 16G that worked fine. I recently exchanged it for a 32G. The 32G would reboot every time I went to use it after leaving it sit for some time (a few hours?). I did a Cold Boot (holding volume + power -- see google) and it seems to be fixed now. Try that.
Sorry, I didn't specify, mine is the 32GB. Thanks for the info, trying that now.

Cold reboot doesn't seem to have had much of an effect. I've had three automatic reboots within the last hour or so.
Also, checked for updates and it says I'm up to date.
Edit:Just happened three more times while navigating around these forums. Plus one lockup where I had to manually reboot. Starting to think about exchanging it.

Mine also keeps rebooting, but i bought it in Edimburgh and now i'm in Spain, so i can't replace it.
I can't use the Asus SAT because i used the "unlock" utility. This realy piss me off
I've tried to unroot, reset the device, not overclocking, even a stress test with StabilityTest app (Google Play, i can't post links), and it keeps rebooting with no sense (attached log down there).
It has rebooted using GMail, watching videos through a browser, playing games... No pattern at all.
After last reboot i have disabled the sound and it seems to be stable, but i'm not sure at all.
My only hope is that the device become fully stable with a custom rom.
Well, I said before things were ok, but now I got home and the device turned itself off. I had to hold down the power button to start it up.
Same problem here in Holland. I have a blue, 32gb 300t (boxcode TF300T-1K129A) which reboots randomly. I own this tablet for one week now and it rebooted about a 30 times or completely freezes. Already submitted an RMA to Asus.
Edit: the RMA was rejected by Asus. They said that I have to reset to factory default thirst, so I did. 10 minutes later... another rebood. I wanted to report this to Asus but in order to do so I had to send a completely new RMA report. Really fed up with Asus I returned the tablet to my retailer and got my money back (no stock of the 300T). Now I ordered a Cube U30GT. To bad, besides the reboots it was a great tablet.
Been having similar issues but I'm in vacation so I can't really do much debugging. My tablet simply shuts down randomly when put in sleep for prolonged periods of time. It'll usually happen once or twice a day with no real pattern to it. I've only had it crash on me once while I was using it, and it wasn't while launching an app or anything in particular.
I'll try the cold boot but unfortunately I'm not getting OTA updates at all... I've rooted and changed the build prop, but I haven't unlocked it. If I can't figure out what's wrong I'll just unlock it and apply updates manually I guess. I know .26 is supposed to fix certain stability issues.

It's in the Play Store. Looks like it puts the entire system through tests. It will keep running until an error occurs, then I think it creates a log.
I downloaded it and let it run for a couple minutes but I don't have the pad with me at the moment.
It said some errors are found in five minutes, but it could take up to 5 hours to find one. I'm guessing plugging it in and letting it run for a while is the best way to do it.
I might run it sometime before I get a chance to take it back to Best Buy. Just out of curiosity.

Alot of people have fixed their problems with a factory rest. I had alot of the same issues and did the reset and now no problems at all. Worth a shot.

Just to update, I got home with my replacement tablet, and I've been setting it up for the last hour. I don't want to jinx myself, but I haven't had an unwanted reboot yet, which is a vast improvement over the last one. It also successfully installed the firmware update, which evidently, the last one did not do. So far a much better experience.
