[Q] Xoom/ Tablet apps? - G Tablet General

While our devs are working hard to a port a honeycomb rom , did anyone get a chance to port any tablet optimized apps to use the big screen. I am excited as the Adam mail'd and sniffer app are pretty good and some xoom app ports will be amazing

Hellburger said:
No, (most of) the new apps use frameworks that only exist in Android 3.0 (Fragments, new animation APIs, etc), and therefore will not work without a ROM based on 3.0
Most of the apps .apk's have been available for a few weeks, but are of little use without 3.0

Sorry, looks like no luck. Read this from a lot of different people smarter than I.

Ohh thats bad. Anyway its only a matter of time till we get a 3.0 rom so its not a heartbreak

replace Sense apps (people, phone, calendar)

Hi all,
Is it possible to replace the stock sense ui apps with ones found on the G1? I've flashed over to the 2.0 ASOP and love the standard apps supplied, but am missing camera and sync updates (i know you can manually do this).
Am i the only one that finds the sense ui apps bloated and redundant?
thanks.
I like the Sense apps a lot better actually. Just 2ยข. Other than that I can't help.

Well as of right now the Camera does not work on any of the 2.0, 2.0.1 or 2.1 builds due to the community not having the source for the CMDA Hero & therefore not having proper files to use the Camera.
I understand that. But it seems to me that pulling Moto Droid apps from it's 2.1 build would/should work in ours. No flames necessary... if i'm wrong, let me know.

True, but some apps, like Calendar, I wouldn't think would work differently based on different hardware. Meh, I don't know really... I supposed you are correct. I do know that the 2.0 AOSP rom in these forums are using stock apk's found on the G1.

Android XDA developers challenge: Porting 2.2 HTC Sense from Wildfire to Magic

I noticed that HTC posted source code of Froyo 2.6.32 kernel for HTC Wildfire. Will it be possible to make some changes to it and make a port for 32A HTC Magic? Specs of both phones are very similar. If somebody can do it, this should make perfect Android 2.2 with Sense ROM or plain 2.2 ROM for Magic that will work with a new 6.35 radio.
I would really appreciate input of experienced Android XDA hackers on this. Thank you in advance.
if you search you will see i have started a port but no one is trying to help, and you have to resize everything due different resolutions
Can be used instead of images in the Magic do not have to resize. ?
edit
resize Blurred image.
we have to take the images used in wildfire, find them in the desire files and rezies those down wildfire and desire have android 2.2 sense so they both have same images, but you cannot size up form widlfire, you have to size down from desire and put in the wildfire files
Yes, I see. thx man
edit
may i help you ?...
i have been meaning to do that but been busy doing kernels but if you do please upload it somewhere so we can improve the port i started
Is it possible to port wildfire 2.2 rom to Magic even without sense? Would it work better then the ones based on AOSP or CM?

Hi capychimp, is it this thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=801435.
Is it better/faster to change/port the mytouch 1.2 32B? I heard it got 2.2 OTA
no one got a link for that update so it is not here yet
I'm thinking a hybrid of the two might be nice. KaosLegendary for the Eris was straight copied over without reszing and many expressed that they liked the smaller sized menus and less obtrusive launcher. I'd be all for fixing the stuff that needs to be fixed like the keyboard from the WF being shrunk and port over the Legend version and keep the small other stuff.

No, because they've still got the HTC framework built in, so what you're getting is AOSP + a ton of crap from HTC, rather than *just* AOSP. I think you can imagine which would work better.

If you want smaller menus and text, use LCD changer. Each to their own, but the launcher looks borked. I think calling it less obtrusive is just like calling a bug, a feature
resizing problems solved

yeah but a huge porting issue comes along with it it is not easy this time
hey Capy
I can help you too, but I think many people would really like to try a version even without Sense. I personally could not care less for Sense...I'm running LauncherPro on Bludy's Senseless ROM.
Just remove rosie.apk when its done.
IMO the focus should be on getting it to run rather than stripping down sense.
so true eyegor
I'm really going to check back here alot and see how you all get along with this.
If i were more skilled with things like this i would offer my help right away.

in not new to android by any means and i have no idea what that is lol wana explane and maby i could help u out i feel so noobish lol
OpenGL ES 2.0 was publicly released in March 2007[1], eliminates most of the fixed-function rendering pipeline in favor of a programmable one. Almost all rendering features of the transform and lighting pipelines, such as the specification of materials and light parameters formerly specified by the fixed-function API, are replaced by shaders written by the graphics programmer. As a result, OpenGL ES 2.0 is not backwards compatible with OpenGL ES 1.1.

It works! This is fun, currently playing with this ROM paired with P3Droids lv250 1200mhz kernel. Runs extremely well all things considered.
Aside from the the bugs mentioned the only other issues I've found are
- Two seemingly identical stock gallery and email programs installed. Neither of which can be uninstalled via app manager.
- My computer does not see the phone when plugged in via USB and phone does not ask to connect to computer. I have not done anything with ADB yet.
- The phone will auto rotate horizontal when the keyboard is opened but will not rotate back when closed in some applications.
Ill post/edit if something new comes up

Hi there. I'm the guy that put this little thing together. I did not build this myself/from source. I just happened to take a few things that were working on various builds and glue them together. It does play 3D games and what not, but since the accelerometer does not work, it doesn't really do a whole lot of good. I'm not sure exactly what OPENGL version it has, or how to check it, but if you point me in the right direction, I'm sure I can figure it out for you. (Found this in the Build.prop: # The OpenGL ES API level that is natively supported by this device.
# This is a 16.16 fixed point number
ro.opengles.version = 131072)
As far as the issues, they have been well documented in the original thread on DroidForums. Just to break them down for you though...
Broken:
1)GPS (which also causes browser and any other location finder service associated apps to close when attempting to locate.) You can use a different browser, or set home page to something other than Google.
2)Accelerometer. I'm assuming it is because there are some new sensors included in Gingerbread. I thought it might have something to do with the akmd file, but I've tried a few different ones with no luck...
3)USB Storage. This is an easy fix with an app in the Market place called Multi Mount SD. They have a free and paid version. Dual Mount also works. These are widgets and must be used as such.
As far as the "duplicate" apps, they are different versions of the same app and are easily removed with Titanium Backup.
Most likely, this is not your every day rom. I have been using it, because it's fun to run something you had a hand in making, but it's not considered stable. With that being said, it's the easiest to use rom that we have available and no other Motorola phones really have anything else better, so enjoy what we have.
Happy Holidays / Merry Christmas / Insert whatever gives you warm and fuzzy feelings here.
PS. I am not a dev, so really can't trouble shoot anything too effectively. I've been trying different things to fix the issues, but have not had much luck. I was hoping some devs on DF would pick up on the interest in this project and be able to figure it out, but not much luck so far.
PSS. Definitely suggest flashing another kernel once you set the original rom up and do a nandroid. A lot of the 2.2 kernels work. I've had the most luck with Slayher interactive ones. Try a 1200 one. It's pretty quick...

No can do, sorry. I'm not a dev, so I wouldn't even have the slightest idea how to do such a thing. Plus I dunno anyone with a Milestone to play with. From what I understand, it is quite a pain in the neck due to the differences between the GSM and CDMA.
Bro i used this it work but the camcorder isnt working and it kick me out of the browser.

but it feel like 2.2 os with some add on with 2.3 os.
When will the hacker get a stable 2.3 os with full feature from 2.3 os???

Not sure about the camcorder. Mine works for me. The browser thing has been discussed many times on all Gingerbread threads. You can't go through the browser's regular home page because location services is not working. Internet works if you:
A) Change the home page to something other than Google.com
B) Get a different browser.
C) Go through the Google Search Box.
It feels like it is 2.2 with some add-ons, because that is exactly what 2.3 is. It's not a major OS revision. Most of the work is behind the scenes dealing with memory management, speed, and such. If it's not faster for you than 2.2, that's odd (if you have not flashed a new kernel with this, highly recommended). There won't be a fully functioning rom till someone is able to figure out how to get some of the proprietary drivers rewritten to work with this boot.img. Not exactly a task for a beginner. Motorola certainly is giving any handouts, so be happy with what ya have.
There are people working on it though, you just have to be patient. It's not something as simple as, "Oh, I'll just add this or that file and everything magically works."
I'm glad some of you are enjoying it though. Blackdroid's team is working on an Alpha. Still broken accelerometer with half working GPS. Hopefully in the next week or 2, he'll push some more stable builds out. Until then, just use this to show off and have a back up of your favorite stable rom. Take care...

Hey man I think you should get yourself the CM7 rom and get the stuff you need to make this a perfect rom, in CM7's version for the D1 GPS and accelerometer work perfect! and it also has the tv animation when the screen turns off.
Id love to see this rom working 100%
Just to let y'all know we were able to get the screen on and off animations to work on the cdma hero by using this guide posted buy the rom dev aosp I don't know if the Numbers will be the same on the Droid but if y'all play around with it it might work http://romrepo.info/wiki/index.php?title=Screen_On/Off_Animation

Those apps use new APIs, most notably the Renderscript API which is only available in Honeycomb onwards.
It's just like asking for the complete Sense/TW experience on devices that don't have it. There's just too many things to port, and it might not even actually be possible.

MIUI for XOOM

as with the release of v4 miui a while ago, and it being an ICS version. Would anyone be interested or skilled enough in the art of porting that over to our xooms? We now have the EOS version and CM9 port happening, is anyone good enough or a big enough fan to port a miui to xoom, I for one would be a +1 for this... i just wish I was able to code to have a crack myself
Alright...
Maybe this could get a little momentum since MIUI released a page where their source is released, much like CM team does... it is possible that stuff can be used from rogue's rom or EOS rom... they are great with allowing others to download their source and that which would help in the process

I love miui on my milestone, but i'm not sure it will be as good as the vanilla ics/honeycomb UI on a 10.1 inches screen. I would gladly give it a try though.

you could be right... and i guess themes wouldn't work obviously however, if this source could be gathered up and worked on our xooms, this would entice others on the samsung tabs and acer tabs, and would allow for theme to be made for our devices which to me would be awesome... also; the portrait and landscape nature of our device may be different but it could also usher a new awesomeness to miui, it does look squished in landscape on a phone but on a 10 inch tab it could be sweet

+1 for MIUI on Xoom.
I have it on my phone and it is so beautiful and fast that I can't use any other rom anymore.
If iPad has iPhone's UI, we can easily have MIUI UI on a tablet. And it would be far better because MIUI supports widgets
Ugh. Ok guys look. Before I started my adventures in Xoomland, I worked with miui ALOT. In fact I still do from time to time. First, miui devs did not release their full repo. Just some of their proprietary apps. They are not about about to release the true wonder of miui, the theme engine. That being said, I highly doubt we would be able to achieve full functionality because we don't have full source. Besides, I only use ADWEX as my launcher and personally I don't think miui would be able to compete there. Consider, what does miui do that our builds don't already do? We could include some form of native file manager. The miui native app backup program sucks compared to Titanium. I'll always have a place in my heart for miui, but trust me when I say working without source REALLY SUCKS.

I think so,too.
the advantages of MIUI are stuff like the texting app,the phone app and the launcher. I don't want all my homescreens cluttered with apps on my xoom,it's fine on a phone, but not on a tablet.
In addition, the themes are for 800x480 screens, the xoom could be considered 'xhdpi' because of its resolution,MIUI is for hdpi screens.
It would be nice to see some optimized release of MIUI for tablets, but I don't think that MIUI in it's phone form can compete with ICS on a xoom.
Rumor has it that Miui will start working on the Xoom as soon as they finish their present projects.
