Hey all,
Stop me if you've heard this one
some of the new roms are downloading my sent items from gmail into my inbox. I've never had this issue with any of the 6.0 roms. Anyone seen this or know how to fix it? I've always used pop because I dont like imap and have never seen this before.
I am currently using 3.14.DK.01 UC 2.0 Compliant WM6.1 Lite ROM, but I have also seen this on the UDK 6.1 rom as well
~Rick
The "fix" for this is to put in a fake email address right from the start. Let it fail the setup and then just edit the account after to what you need. Just an fyi though, this "fix" doesn't always seem to work. For receiving it is always fine but sometimes it doesn't send properly at all. There are other threads about this but I didn't bother to bookmark them. Another supposed fix is to put imap.gmail.com instead of smtp.gmail.com in the settings...I haven't tried this one.
same here
that isn't what he meant. gmail is working fine. all messages download perfect no problems there. but whenever a message is sent it saves a copy of it in the inbox. does anybody know how to make this stop?
I've tried the fake email and then manually configuring it, it didnt work on any of the other roms, I will try this tomorrow on this one. As far as the imap, I dont want to use IMAP, I like the way pop used to work. I mean if I have to I will but I want to try to get this to work the way it used to first.
This is the default behavior for gmail, it does the same thing if you use a POP email client like outlook or thunderbird from your desktop. I have never seen a real fix for it, on my desktop i used to create a rule that would move messages that were from me to my sent items folder. The only way I have been able to fix it on windows mobile was to set up gmail as imap.
yeah this is because gmail uses a thread type of system. As chambersaj said this happens on desktops too, as well WM 5.0 to 6.1 (all that I have used)
OK So on the rom I am using now, I entered a fake e-mail address to prevent it from auto-configuring, and now it works the way it used to. I know it does that for the outlook client, and thats fine, but it never used to do this on wm6, maybe it was just the luck of the draw for the roms I used.
Need the HTC exchange email app, stock N1 froyo app doesnt work with my company's exchange email. HTC on EVO, Aria, Eris, Hero, Incredible....all work

You gotta be doing something wrong, then... It's standard activesync technology in both. And the n1 one, at least, even let's you ignore SSL certs (which was a common problem in 2.0 and less I believe).
friend, i would love it if i was doing something wrong, but i have tried everything, every combination with the settings. Worked perfectly with the "work email" app but that isnt supported for froyo. stock N1 wont authenticate. its not a small company (Best Buy) and ive used it on WM, Blackberry, HTC phones listed above, and Palm WebOS with no problems. its just the N1 stock client.
im out of ideas
Very strange. I've had better luck with email app in 2.1 and 2.2 then any previous version. have you tried leaving domain blank and doing domain\username for username? just a thought.
Edit: scratch that, that's exactly how it is setup now (no domain box) doh.
i am using the stock 2.2 mail and syncing to exchange server. make sure you have the username right
i understand the client isnt defective, just not compatible with Best Buy's requirements I guess. I know its working for many, but the stock N1 2.2 email client will not work with Best Buy. where the email client on the various HTC phones it does work (aria, evo, incredible, etc)
i believe i am entering everything correctly.
Domain\Username: NA\x123456
server: sync.bestbuy.com
ok, question here gurus...is this problem with my work email not working on the N1 stock email client possibly due to my company's requirement for a password on the phone?
the HTC email client can enforce that and make you have a password on the phone(which with an app can be bypassed). is it possible that the N1 client is unable to enforce that policy and thats why it doesnt work?

Since when has BestBuy allowed employees to ActiveSync into their work email? When I worked there that was a huge no-no.

Ahhhhhh, yes that is definitely why. It can be setup to disallow e-mail clients that don't implement the pin lock policy.
Touchdown (not free, but imo worth it) in the market does have the option to enforce that policy with a built in pin system.
K9 is a free activesync/exchange email client but I'm not sure it supports pin lock (I'd guess not, but I haven't looked).
no go. Touchdown doesnt work, and their support told me that it officially wont work with it.
tried k-9 but the app is horrible...id rather login through the wesite to check the email befire using it.
guess i gotta sell my nexus and use Incredible on my VZ line...im very saddened by this.

Whose support told you in wouldn't? Your work or nitrodesk? It absolutely supports standard activesync pin policies. Not saying i don't believe you, I mean I'm sure you tried it, just find it kinda odd.
I have N1 Froyo and my company requires pin lock with exchange sync. Since the upgrade to Froyo, I have been able to sync without a problem.
nitrodesk says Best Buy is blocking all Android phones so Touchdown will not work. i gave them server settings and all.
its not totally true, Best Buy exchange works perfectly on HTC branded Android phones, Aria, Evo, Incredible, Hero, etc...it requires the cimple pin and works fine.
although does not work on N1 or Touchdown.
using free trial of RoadSync by Dataviz and its working flawlessly for my push email, calendar, tasks, and contacts. Wierd, its half the price of Touchdown and its working where Touchdown would not.
I am on CM 5.0.8 and has no problem to work with the corporate mail / corporate calendar taken from Droid.
Yesterday I have tried to upgrade to the new FRF91 and get connected to the corporate mail - without success.
In the logcat I have seen the following line: "AuthenticationHandler( 270): Authentication scheme ntlm not supported" and the device continued to ask me for the username / password.
I went back to CM 5.0.8 just because the corporate mail and the calendar.
So I guess something was not implemented properly in FRF91 for the corporate mails ....
I tried the touchdown software but it does not seem to work with the G-Tablet. I've not had any problem with auto configure (I set it up and it works for all our computers, laptops and mobile devices (running windows mind you). Touchdown does not error out, it just endlessly 'configures' we are talking hours..
Has anyone had any luck with with Outlook and Exchange servers?
I'm running stock with the latest update 2.6.32.9-00000-10.8.2-dirty build FRF91
i use..
I just use the default mail APP to get mails from our Exchange server and it is working fine.

There's a beta of touchdown that works with the G Tablet. Search the apps forum for touchdown, you'll find the link.
Touchdown is awesome........works perfect
Sent from my GTablet using Tapatalk
Does not work. Wasted a few hours on this too
Just for the record I'm trying to sync with my company Rackspace Exchange server so I can count on it being properly patched.
The app keeps asking for a server in autosync mode which tells you it's not working right. Autosync works by userid and password, at least in Outlook. Server address changes depending on mode.
What is a 'server' Let's see, depending on what mode you are accessing the exchange server that name changes.
domain address, server address, server name, what exactly is a 'server' ??
server for autosync?
server for outlook2003
server for outlook2007
server for outlook2010
Outlook
not one, 5 choices for the application.
I've read TouchDown instructions and they are just like the app.
The app. insists on autosync when it can't even do autosync.
I will say that the beta at least attempted this time to communicate with the server, beyond that it's useless.
..and I'm the exchange admin.
Probably works on old unpatched servers. Just the thing you don't want.
Darn, it looked so good.

I like Moxier Mail, been using it on my phone for a couple years now, and it works great on the G Tablet as well.
thanks that looks promising
no download links for the demo. They have it splashed all over the place about a demo but it does not seem to exist. Links seem very rare in Android apps. Just a very slow android library site.
Sigh, Bleeding edge.....
still just a toy. Bummer.
I had the same problem you described trying to get Touchdown to work on my G-Tab. The problem is that the program is looking for an IMEI which doesn't exist on a WiFi tablet. I ran across this link on this forum http://tinyurl.com/tdbetadroid and downloaded the application on the G-Tab and it works great. It installs with Tablet mode enabled which some people don't like but you can disable in the settings. I like Tablet mode myself. I don't know why I couldn't find this link on the NitroDesk website but what they advertise for Android tablets doesn't work--at least not for me and others.
Good luck.
I'm guessing the stock Android E-mail app isn't on the Stock TNT build?
I use the stock app on my Droid X and my G-tab just fine.
If that app isn't avail, you may want to look at "improved e-mail"
http://www.appbrain.com/app/improved-email/com.mwebster.iemail
It is basically an "improved" version of the stock android app. I've used it quite a bit too, and has some nifty additions.
thanks, I found that link and loaded it up. It actually 'worked' in the sense that it tried auto-syncing with the server but It got all the configuration errors (the server is without question, is configured correctly and syncs with a number of different devices in the office. It's a Rackspace server so it's not my handwork ) It may all depend on the Exchange server and it's settings. Certainly worth a try and it got farther then the production version. I know my server autosync works so it's the application/ android construct/TnT/
Which I may never know. I will wait and use the Windows Mobile for Production.
I was hoping everything in development was farther along then it really is. I'm also wondering if the newest version (Gtablet stock) did something making many of these development apps not work. At least XDA forums is not alone in that.
I work with another software application that does just that, anything beta will not load. You have to go into the configuration and change that. Figure with a tablet you don't really want phone apps mixed in. They are based on a tiny screens..maybe TnT is building in compatibility?
But Touchdown beta did load and was accessible so that is a little different and shows promise. First step is to at least get refused or ignored by the server It still should not need the server location in auto discovery mode.
That would be a first. It's a different address for auto discovery and Exchange (for obvious reasons) if it's even activated on a corporate exchange server. That's the problem, so many configuration possibilities the app needs to be written for. So just because it did not work for me..
Worked with support to set up the beta and we got it working. Hats of to Touchdown support. I like the tablet view once it loaded up and sync'd

Yeah Man!!!
My IT people told me to junp in the lake when I called them for support...
I fought this for 2 weeks until I found a post here that talked abouth the beta version. Installed it and off I went !!!
Touchdown does not support NOTES import and it does not support adding a PIC to your contacts but its all good for what it does offer
Good Luck!
Very new here and have run into what seems to be a ROM stopper issue.
My company uses Exchange Activesync but in order to connect has to be allowed to push certain security settings to my Inspire. The normal rooted phone, I am able to use the HTC Email app with no issues and am forced to use the security.
However, after flashing a ROM (I have tried MIMU and REV 4,) I am no longer able to add my Activesync account. It gets down to do the install and fails with a general error (Try again later or some such) and won't create the account.
I did do some searching and found there was an email app that apparently bypasses that setup, but I'm not interested in bi-passing, just in getting the security to work.
Now, finally to the question: Are there any INSPIRE ROMs here that people have got to work with activesync? More specifically, with activesync that is trying to force security settings on the device?
(I had made a backup of my ROM before hand and was able to restore back to working copy without any issues [yeah] and I am sure that I wiped everything on installing both ove the above mentioned ROM.)
Sorry for the long post, but I thought background was important to understand the issue.

CM7 will work fine. Now keep in mind, the actual server address can be different on AOSP email clients compared to HTC.
For example, my setup that I administer:
HTC Server address: owa.organization.com
Domain: organizationdomain
AOSP(CM7) Server address: owa.organization.com/owa
Domain:blank
Check with your exchange admin to see what your proper settings would be. If others in your organization have, for instance a Samsung or Nexus, get what they would use for settings.
My Inspire is a work phone I have never had an issue getting it to connect to our activesync. It also has that extra security thing but it always prompts me to allow it right before it syncs up. It has worked for me on the following ROMs.
Ultimate Droid (Current ROM)
CM7
MIUI
Cognition
RC Mix HD
You could always try a 3rd party email app like touchdown or K9 from the market.
I tried it for sure on MIUI and it didn't work. I have tried using K-9 and it won't even work with activesync account on stock. I am getting this error when I am trying to add the account both in email as well as in just the Settings - Account. Any other thoughts? I will try CM7 or Ultimate Droid tonight.
Thanks,
Jeff

MIUI makes changes to the AOSP email program, so it actually may not be compatible. What version of Exchange are you running?
I believe we are on Exchange 2007. Here is the info on the exchange web service:
Connected to Microsoft Exchange
Secured by Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server
© 2006 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

That is what I administer. When adding to MIUI are you using the same server name/domain info that you had in HTC based ROMs?
We have a Exchange 2003 and I cannot get it to connect to that server. Maildroid and Touchdown both worked without any problems. I wish the default email client was a little more robust.
Yes, I am using the exact same information that I did when I installed it on the "stock" ROM when trying in MIUI. I have tried both on just the "add account" method as well as from the stock email client + K-9 Email.
In stock, I cannot get the K-9 email to work at all. the HTC sense email client works fine.
in MIUI (and REV 4.0) neither email client works and I cannot add the activesync server under accounts either.

You may want to try using no domain and the full owa path for server name.

I'll give that a shot. Thanks for the advice.
BTW...I did finally get the K-9 mail to work on the "stock" ROM. I had to put in my full email addy on the mailbox alias along with the /owa/auth/ in the Authorization path.
Update to the saga. Just tried CM 7 and when I try to add the ActiveSync Account, here is the actual error I get:
Setup could not finish
This server requires security features your phone does not support.

Do you already have a PIN code set to unlock the device?
It sounds like your corporate IT server is locked down a little more than normal. I've used the CM7 stock client on 3 exchange systems (my employer's server, my consulting gig's server and gmail exchange settings for push) and it connects fine to all of them.
Also, try RCMix 5.9.3. See if it gives the same results as Rev 4.
OK. Update with CM7.
I tried setting up the pin before adding account, no go. The other security option that they are trying to enforce is being able to wipe the phone (I work for a State Gov't...neat, huh) I'm guessing it is this setting that is causing the issue.
I did, however, get the K-9 email program to work in CM7. Now the only downside is I don't get contacts or calendar. I'll keep looking...

Hah, local Gov't here. The default AOSP mail client does support remote wipe, as I have tested our organization's functionality on Android on CM7, RCMix, and of course stock. (as well as a few times on the Captivate).
Try setting the password in Location & Security and checking that Use Secure Credentials is checked; and make sure Email is set as a device administrator.
How would I go about doing the "make sure Email is set as a device administrator." step you mentioned? When I click on device administrator there is nothing there to select.
I did try setting up the password in Loc & Sec and the checked the Use Secure as well. Still wouldn't allow me to add the activesync account. This is all still on CM7. Still a no go on getting my contacts and calendars to sync. What am I missing? (I'm sure it is me.)
You may want to try to contact your organization administrators and ask them if you can have an exception for the security policy. There is a particular setting that I have seen brought problems with several android phone this setting is "Allow Non-provisionable Device" and it should be set to true (many organizations set it to false which cause connectivity failures).
There is no way that I will get them to change settings for me. It has to either be something I am missing or a change that needs to be made in the ROM

I recently switched from an HTC M8 to a OnePlus 5 running 7.1.1. I really miss the functionality of the HTC Mail app, and have been unable to find one that has all of the features I need. I have installed the Nougat version of HTC Mail, and it works for IMAP accounts, but it crashes when I try to add an exchange account.
I am hoping someone could help me out and provide a link to, or at least a list of, the other necessary apks to get exchange working in HTC Mail. On my Marshmallow powered HTC, there was an app called Exchange ActiveSync, which I imagine has something to do with it, but I don't know what all would be required.

Yes, I like HTC Mail as well. This may work for you...
Downloaded HTC Mail apk version 10.xxx from here for my PixelXL, and it runs perfectly. Needs no other dependent apps.

I just tried that one. It does work for my IMAP accounts, but will not let me add an Exchange account. Do you have an Exchange account working?
Way happens if you add an exchange account in phone settings/accounts and sync/?

In accounts you have to pick an app first. When I pick HTC Mail, it only offers POP, APOP, and IMAP under Manual Setup.
