FLASH ANDROID 2.2 ON MOTOROLA MILESTONE XT720
Here is how you can install Android 2.2 Froyo on your Motorola Milestone XT720. There are couple of things that you need to take care of before proceeding with the flashing ROM instructions.
PREREQUISITE
1. This method is only for those who are running stock Android 2.1 Eclair ROM on their Milestone XT720. If you have any other custom ROMs installed, you need to flash Android 2.1 stock ROM and then proceed with below instructions.
2. You need to have your Motorola Milestone XT720 rooted before attempting flashing ROM. If not, head over to our guide on how to root Motorola Milestone XT720 in One-Click.
3. Download Android 2.2.1 Froyo ROM for XT720 on to your computer and extract it’s contents.
4. Install “OpenRecovery” app that is included in the downloaded package. The app is in apk format. If you are not sure how to install the APK format app, follow our guide on how to install APK (Non-market) apps in Android. One more guide here.
Once you are done with the above requirements, proceed with the following instructions for flashing the custom built Android 2.2 Froyo ROM to your Motorola Milestone XT720.
FLASHING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Reboot your phone.
2. Connect your Milestone to computer using USB Cable.
3. Copy the folder “nandroid” in the downloaded content to root directory of the phone’s internal SD Card.
4. Make sure that SD Card is not connected to your PC using “mass storage share”.
5. On your phone, run “OpenRecovery app” and then tap “Install Recovery”.
6. Tap on “Boot recovery”.
7. Restore the backup “stock22xxxx”.
8. Then Wipe/Factory reset in Open Recovery.
9. Reboot your phone.
That’s it. You have successfully upgraded your Milestone XT720 with Android 2.2.1 Froyo. Enjoy!

So I have about reached my boiling point, I have followed every article I can find including Team Whiskey's and the one that AndroidSPIN has posted as well. I had no problems rooting my prior to updating to Froyo 2.2 that was finally released for the Vibrant. I would like to see if anyone can lend a helping hand I would really like to drop the BIONIX 1.3 v ROM I simply just frustrated at this point. Any Ideas anyone? I am attempting to use the Z4ROOT and have attempted to use the one-click root as as well. Thoughts?
SEE which firmware version u have!
the latest wont allow u to root..
see if its froyo 2.2 or froyo 2.2.1 or later..
froyo versions after 2.2.1 cant b rooted!!!
so u need to downgrade the software version to do this..
MIND U ROOTING WILL BRING FORTH LOT OF PROBLEMS..people generally hv to bear even more headache than from their galfrens!! also it will void ur warrenty!

Hi Folks,
I'm unable to root my Galaxy S. (tried different methods)
I had rooted my phone through Ryans Super One click Lag fix & unrooted my phone a month ago.
I tried to root the devise again but not been able to succed with the following methods.
1. Ryans Super One Click 1.91 : the Super One click says waiting for device and dies, no sucess even after trying for nth time.
2. Installed Z4root.apk directly on my phone internal SD card: It force closes after displaying acquiring root shells?
3.Downloaded update.zip folder into internal SD card and then press the 3 button combo and it says.
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
4. Installed Universal abdroot which roots the 2.2.1 firware as well.
However even this failed.
Not sure why all the methods failed, Is it because I rooted and unrooted my phone earlier ???? Please help me...

Hi,
Im new with Android and have a couple of questions :
I have flashed my ZTE Light with a unofficial Android 2.2 (from official 2.1) and that works grate, but what does this really mean in the future? Will I be able to update to the official 2.2 when its released? Is there any drawbacks comparing to a official firmware?
The internal memory is getting full fast even when using SDMove so I am thinking of rooting the device and by that be able to use applications like Move2SD, but what will rooting mean? Will I still be able to remove the rooting and will I still be able to update the phone to a official firmware? What is the risks?
I have seen that there is alot of talk about rooms when dealing with rooting? Is the room the software that will root my device? And why is there so many diffrent rooms to use?
BestRegards
If your rooted running the 2.2 ROM now, why go back to what is "officially" released? You are already ahead of the game.

As I said, Im new to Android so I do not really know that much about it yet.
I have not rooted the device yet but I have flashed with the following files : [Link removed]
android_2.2_for_zte_light-read_1st.rar - Flashprogram
V9_GENERICV1.0.0B03.rar - Files to flash on to the device
Sales_MultiDL_MSM7227_patched.zip - somekind of patch
1. I Supose that the official 2.2 firmware will be more adapted to my device then this flash is? Or will there be no point in going with the official when having this flash in place? Could there by any problems with future updates(ex 2.3) when using this custom firmware?
I have a guid on how to root the device based on the leaked 2.2 V9_GENERICV1.0.0B03 (Android 2.2) rom.
2. Is this a good idéa or is there any problems with this? If this does not work as needed is it possible to go back to an unrooted device? And if so how? Will I have to re-flash the device(re-install everything)?
3. I supose that a rom is the rooting software and there could be many flavour of a rooting software(rom)
Would be grate If your could answer my questions
BestRegards
First of all i would like to clear ur misunserstanding u have.. a ROM is not a software used for rooting.. indeed ROM is the OS for your phone.. there are many custom roms available.. u can choose them according to ur need.. and always make sure that u r flashing a rom which is suitable for ur phone..
Rooting is nothing but giving kind of administrative access to u.. so u can delete the protected contents or boltwares from ur phone.. for u to flash any new roms, u should be rooted..

The ROM im using us a custom ROM, the manufacture(ZTE) have not yet released a Android 2.2 ROM for my device yet, this is why I have to use a custom ROM.
Accoring to the author of the guid I followed to flash the custom Android 2.2 ROM to my device, the ROM is not rooted. This seems to be correct because programs that are supose to move apps from the device internal memory to the SD card is not working.
To get this working a parmanent rooting needs to be done according to the author.
If this parmanent rooting is dones I supose that I will be able to use apps that moves other apps to the SD card.
So If I decide to root my device and then turn back again I should simple be able to re-flash the device with the custom Android 2.2 ROM that I used before? Is This correct?
And If the manufacture releases a orginal Anroid 2.2 ROM I will also be able to flash this in to the device, this will however not be possible to root if the manufacture is not releasing the source.
Am I correct?
BestRegards
Hello everyone,
I am currently running Liberty 2.0, unthemed, overclocked 1.25Ghz on my DX. So now that the basics are out of the way comes my issue/question. I really like the GB update I've seen on other DX's. I don't exactly get what I'd have to do to get the update and reroot. I was hoping that someone could help me and either point me to, or write up a detailed walk through of the steps because I'm not 100% confident.
Any help is appreciated
Thanks.

You can follow the directions for method 2/patched update.zip in this Official DX Gingerbread 2.3.3 (4.5.596) Release Thread:
http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/droid-x-discussion/7651-official-dx-gingerbread-2-3-3-4-5-596-release-thread-something-everyone.html
The first step will be to SBF your phone back to stock froyo. There's a how to video and the file download(2.3.340 SBF Full 2.2.1) here:
http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/droid-x-how-tos/6233-how-sbf-droid-x-2-3-320-340-a.html
You'll then have to root. Easiest is probably downloading and running z4root:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953
Next is to install the Droid 2 Recovery Bootstrap app(NOT Droid X Recovery Bootstrap):
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.koushikdutta.droid2.bootstrap
Finally, after you've downloaded the part 1 and part 2 zips from the first link, use the app to reboot into recovery and flash them both.
I know this may be a completely lame and stupid question but here goes... I rooted my Xoom by this method ( ROOT Telstra from the Latest HC3.1 Update + Unsecured New Boot Image ) and all is fine but after I did this I noticed the 3.2 Official Update and now the ICS update. To get to the point I tried to revert back to standard OFW but had a failure on applying it. So my question is can I apply an OFFICIAL upgrade to a rooted Xoom without unrooting? I like the xoom even as it is but I don't want to end up with a paper weight!
Any help will be appreciated... (BTW as you can gather I have a Telstra Aussie Xoom running the 3.1 firmware in the link above)
If you have CLOCK WORK MOD installed ,I am certain that you will have to unroot and relock boot loader to get the update to install. Although it will download and attempt to install the update it will not . It will just boot into CWM every time.
You will need to reinstall the official firmware via adb if you are running non-official firmwares.

Hi...
Sorry for being pessimistic, but... No there's no way to update officially without unrooting... Try reinstalling the official firmware (WARNING: IT WILL WIPE ALL YOUR BELOVED PHOTOS, MUSICS, EVERYTHING!!!). Relocking the boot loader and then try updating again.
To return to stock ROM, try LordAIOTool for Linux it has a nice Stock Install feature hope I helped

Thanks for the replies, that was my feeling as well. For another question if I can succeed in restoring the OFW to upgrade, can I re-root it when running either 3.2 or 4.xx ?
I need rooting for running a couple of applications I have and for accessing HDD attached to the USB port. I don't want to put on Custom Firmware unless it is just a modified version of the OFW similar to the CFW I am running now. If so any links for just rooting...
Thanks again.
Yes, you can reroot , just search a little

LG Optimus T (p509)
Android version 2.2 (stock)
I have decided to delve into putting a custom rom onto my LG Optimus T phone. The only reason why I wish to install a new rom is so that I can play with the newer android os versions (ICS or Jellybean).
I understand that these roms are primarily developed for the LG Optimus p500, but can I apply them to the T-mobile branded LG Optimus T? If so, is it stable enough to:
1) make and receive phone calls
2) take pictures/movies
3) text
4) wifi internet
So which rom should I use?
Also can someone be kind enough to direct me to the place where it teaches me how to root, backup, and install the new rom onto my Optimus T phone?
TIA
Ice cream sandwich and jelly bean have problems taking video, so I would recommend cyanogenmod7, it's certainly stable enough for what you asked and if you don't like it, it's easy enough to go back to the stock rom, just make sure to flash the old baseband fix since you have the old baseband, by the way, please read the forum first, you aren't supposed to make threads like this.

Thanks so much! I'm going to try this out later today.
Sorry about breaking forum rules, I was reading through most of the topics but I was confused so I wanted clarification.
Wondering if someone can help me get z4root running.
I downloaded the program and its on my computer desktop. I enabled usb debugging. When I copy the program onto my sd card's root directory, I cannot find the z4 program.
Can someone help me out?
Nevermind I downloaded a file manager program called "ESFile" and I was able to find the file in the phone.
--------------------
Okay, now I have a new problem, after enabling debug mode, I start the z4mod, and select the permanent root. Once it starts rooting, it seems to stay busy forever. It never reboots. What should I do?
Why dont you try Gingerbreak.apk. Search and instal on phone.
It will root your phone easily!!

Gingerbreak is much more reliable
But if you want to temporary root then you should use z4root
Try super one click
