Need help with optimus t phone - Optimus One, P500, V Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

LG Optimus T (p509)
Android version 2.2 (stock)
I have decided to delve into putting a custom rom onto my LG Optimus T phone. The only reason why I wish to install a new rom is so that I can play with the newer android os versions (ICS or Jellybean).
I understand that these roms are primarily developed for the LG Optimus p500, but can I apply them to the T-mobile branded LG Optimus T? If so, is it stable enough to:
1) make and receive phone calls
2) take pictures/movies
3) text
4) wifi internet
So which rom should I use?
Also can someone be kind enough to direct me to the place where it teaches me how to root, backup, and install the new rom onto my Optimus T phone?
TIA

Ice cream sandwich and jelly bean have problems taking video, so I would recommend cyanogenmod7, it's certainly stable enough for what you asked and if you don't like it, it's easy enough to go back to the stock rom, just make sure to flash the old baseband fix since you have the old baseband, by the way, please read the forum first, you aren't supposed to make threads like this.

I have a p509 so trust me
1. ICS and jelly bean can both make calls
2. ICS can take pics and movies jelly bean can't do neither
3. They can all text
4. They all have WiFi working
To install
1. Download z4root to root device
2. Switch basebands with lgdmp
3. Install custom recovery
4. Make nan droid backup
5. Flash jellybean/ICS
6. Flash Google apps
7. Reboot

Thanks so much! I'm going to try this out later today.
Sorry about breaking forum rules, I was reading through most of the topics but I was confused so I wanted clarification.

Wondering if someone can help me get z4root running.
I downloaded the program and its on my computer desktop. I enabled usb debugging. When I copy the program onto my sd card's root directory, I cannot find the z4 program.
Can someone help me out?
Nevermind I downloaded a file manager program called "ESFile" and I was able to find the file in the phone.
--------------------
Okay, now I have a new problem, after enabling debug mode, I start the z4mod, and select the permanent root. Once it starts rooting, it seems to stay busy forever. It never reboots. What should I do?

Why dont you try Gingerbreak.apk. Search and instal on phone.
It will root your phone easily!!

Gingerbreak is much more reliable
But if you want to temporary root then you should use z4root
Try super one click

G2x 2.3.3 root question

Hi,
I dont know if am being really stupid or not but this is my first android device and first time rooting.( i have searched for hours now trying to find an answer)
So i am trying to root my Lg G2x running GB 2.3.3 using this link :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255214
so as of now i am on Step 2...what i dont get is when i click the link on step 2 it says to download ALL of these NVIDIA drivers and everything. All i did was downlooad the One Click CWM
Another thing this link does is send me to ANOTHER link saying that you have to ROOT first?
So from my previous knowledge i thought you could only "flash" the CWM if you were already root ( or maybe thats only for the ROMs)
alright then if thats the case...the directions of the original link just says to download and unzip...but do i put that root folder onto my phone(i read this from another link that someone else posted about)..The reason i am asking this question is because when i tried to go to Step 3 it said to Hold Volume and Power to boot CWM but nothing happened obivously bc 1. the directions say to plug the phone into computer at like step5 and 2. the files are on the computer
So in conclusion i guess i am just trying to make sure that i dont brick my phone by asking these lame questions
1. do i have to take those unzipped files and put them onto my Phone( more specifally, my sd card or phone?)
2. What about for the CWM download.. do i just download the One Click thing and ignore the other directions??
You have to do the one click thing first to install Clockwordmod with NVFlash.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847
Then you boot into Clockwordmod Recovery and run my booting zip.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255214
In that thread just download the root zip and put it on your sd card or in the internal memory of your phone. Flash the CWM recovery and then boot into Clockworkmod Recovery by holding down volume down and power until fancy LG logo shows (about ten to fifteen seconds). Find the menu option to flash a zip from sd card or internal memory (wherever you put my rooting zip). Select it, flash it and reboot when finished.
Presto. Done. You are now rooted.
THANK YOU!!!
I GOT IT YAY i AM ROOTEd
i was just overreading and kept reading every word on the posts lol when all i had to do was follow the APX driver installation, FLASH the cWM , and then BOOT IT!!!
THANK YOU!!!!

Flashing CWM and rebooting does not root your phone. You have to flash the root zip also, or flash a rooted rom.
Ok i am completly lost trying to root my g2x. I'v tried downloading the flasher yet nothing. I just need a step by step on doing this. Thanks!!

The original thread for the one-click flasher in the development section is one of the best step by step posts ever made on XDA. It even has a link for a video tutorial. If you cannot follow that then I suggest you stop trying to root your phone. There is no reason for anyone to make another step by step guide. To find the thread try the search button. There are also links to it in numerous other threads.
Are their roms on here that are bug free and stable for daily drivers?
Im coming over here from a HD2 which is not a native android phone. And I didnt mind the bugs in android.
But now I have a g2x and it is bug free though I really wish it had 2.3.5 but oh well this phone is still bad ass.
So what im wondering if I should just root to keep it stock and do lil mods or flash the whole cwm Process so I have a back up. If I ever need it.
Thanks in advance.

I've kept mine stock for that reason, but I did root it. After experiencing custom roms on my Nexus One, A71 variant and others, I would have to say the frustrations stuff being perpetually broken, bugs and the monotony of daily flashing (CM7 just never stops) whatever small benefits the custom roms have (i.e., eye candy, additional settings, etc.) is just not worth the frustration and danger of soft-bricking the phone (I have hard bricked one also) to me. My Nexus One (gave one to wife when I got the G2X but then got another one at a steal) has gone through updates to 2.3.4 and 2.3.6 (yesterday). These updates seem to be mostly internal fixes for stuff. The average user (or even advanced) is not going to notice any difference in using the rom. The only exception to that is that in 2.3.4 Google removed the need to log back into your Gmail account(s) after changing sims. They said that was a minor benefit at a greater annoyance and the "feature" most complained about by world travelers. Other than that the Google apps get updated and even 2.2 devices are basically running the same Google apps as 2.3.X. So based on what you said above, I would suggest keeping it stock and simply rooting it. You definitely want to change recovery to Clockworkmod to make backups and the fact that going into stock recovery on this device does a factory reset (how stupid was that LG).

Thanks J you have been very helpful in my transition from hd2 to g2x"im still flashing hd2 I love playing with sense 3.0 and 3.5" But this phone is amazing. Ive rooted it and added cwm but have not flashed any cutom rome I like stability over newest features.
Is 2.3.3 the most recent update for our Phones?
Yes and we're darn lucky we have 2.3.3. No other 2X variant worldwide has received any update love from LG. They are all still on 2.2.x. Lawsuit in U.S. seems to be what forced LG into releasing the G2X GB update.

Hey J
If this is the wrong place to ask please pm me but, would you mind letting me know what tweaks you have done "if any" you have done to your stock rom?

Lg Optimus G2x from Wind, rooted & Unlocked

Hi,
I have got this LG optimus G2X from Wind, unlocked, and rooted. The thing is that I am still using 2.2, and for the longest time I have been waiting for an update, yet nothing seems to appear. I was looking around and I found this guide:
http://www.lg-phones.org/how-to-flas...ngerbread.html
To my knowledge it seems pretty legit, but the links are old, and I can no longer get the files I need to perform the upgrade. Do you guys advice me to perform such an upgrade, or should I go for custom ROMs (not a big fan)?
Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Welcome to the forum!
You have to do some reading to avoid bricking your wind G2X. To update from stock froyo(2.2) you can proceed two directions:
1. Install custom recovery to be safe and then backup your current Froyo ROM, then finally choose your preferred ROM from development section. This procedure will not update your baseband (you probably have the June wind baseband).
Clockwork recovery flash guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847
2: Updating from stock Froyo to official gingerbread using lg update tool. This procedure will update your baseband to the latest July one, however you will get all t-mobile bloatwares with that stock gingerbread ROM.
Proceed to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332350
Option 2 requires stock recovery/ROM. You have those at the moment (i assume), so if you haven't rooted your device yet then give it a shot to have the July baseband.
With both option i would prefer to flash clockwork recovery first, make a backup then if you go with option2 flash back the stock recovery(how toguide is in option 1's link).
You might also wanna use some application/settings/call logs/contacts backup tool which requires root, like titanium backup/my backup. For those to work root your device using one click root:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
Make your preferred backup with any of those above mentioned applications, then if you go with option 2, then use super one click to unroot your phone before proceed.
Please take the time to read the instructions, since a couple of folks had issues updating wind handsets to the July baseband.
Good luck!

1- you should port other phone's rom to your phone and then flash it.. only then will you be able to use that rom on your phone..
2- Google stock rom/original firmware <your phone 'name> .. if its available on the internet then you will find one.. or else you will need to do a nandroid backup or extract it..
3- there is no general rom which works on all phones rightaway.. there is cyanogenmod which is by far available for all phones (don't know about Chinese phones) .. but you will have to do some tweaks or modification to work on a specific phone because different phones have different hardwares..
4-4.1.2 is jb and not ics.. you will have to put cm10 or probably delete the bloatware installed by your supplier..
5- as i said before you need to port cm9 for your phone.. there are many noob friendly guides on xda to help porting roms.. check out

try srsroot, unlock root,z4 root.. if you're not getting your Rom you extract it yourself. I think before porting any Rom,you have to figure out root for your phone because NO CUSTOM ROM WILL WORK WITHOUT ROOT.. try srsroot, it has rooted many unconventional devices also.. Google srsroot, download it from their official website and try..

does your phone has locked bootloader or UNlocked one?
I have a same problem...any ideas?
How good are these phones?
very good phones
A suggestion...
I'm not 100 % you can do it but there is a slight chance you can root your phone through fastboot ! Maybe pushing the su binary and apk through adb and giving permissions or maybe flasing a custom CWM Rrecovery through fastboot and flashing an SU flashable zip through that recovery !
BUT be awere BOTH of these methods are BIG MAYBE ! I can not test and I can not ensure you any of these will work !
You can get a flashable SU package here :
1) Superuser : http://androidsu.com/superuser/
2) Super SU : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
you can
yes you can
i know page on Facebook that support me to root my device and install cmw
Chinese smart phone support
I used this to root my i9400, hope it helps!

[GUIDE] Simplified Root/Unroot for LG Ally [2.2.1]

I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR BRICKED PHONE
Nobody has seemed to post a Guide for this device on xda so might as well!
I think the Ally came Froyo 2.2 but we are at 2.2.1 right now so it should still work.
List
#1: Rooting
#2: Custom Recovery
#3: Flashing Custom Roms
#4: Unroot
#5: Some Roms
Rooting
#1: So ye want to root eh? lets get down to the basics...Rooting is the process of gaining administrative rights to the phone so one can do customizations that aren't normally allowed. Rooting can make your piece of junk phone into a beautiful artwork, basic root user can still use many useful things such as, Custom boot animations, the use of a PS3 Controller (Not sure who would use a Ps3 controller on a ally but who am i to judge xD) for Games or Emulators to play some of the good ol days of Nintendo, you are also able to use a wii mote BUT does not require root. we are also able to uninstall all the bloatware the carriers puts onto the phone like Facebook or some other stupid app you don't use. Flashing custom Roms, say you aren't liking the normal Stock features your phone comes with you are able to change the OS, a higher Android version or maybe a port of a different ROM.
Rooting Instructions:
YOU ARE GOING TO NEED A MICRO SDCARD ANY SIZE (2gig preferred)
1. Turn on USB Debugging (Settings - Applications - Development) and turn on Unknown Sources in (Settings - Applications) you can turn this off if you want to when we are done rooting
2. Method one: Tap this link from your phone GingerBreak and download the apk named "GingerBreak-v1.20.apk" in the second post. (be sure to hit the thanks button for Chainfire on the thread )
3. Download a file explorer from the play store such as androzip, astro file manager or if in your status bar tap the file when its done and install it
4. Method Two: you are also able to put the apk file onto your phone from your computer using your usb charger. just drag and drop onto your micro sdcard and install a file manager that will install apks.
5. Open the app and tap the root button to start the root process, It can take around 10 minutes, and will restart automatically when complete, if attempt fails, restart phone manually & run it again. Slam bam in a can, you got root!
Custom Recovery
#2 Congratulations on rooting your phone! Now to check if we have root for sure, check your apps drawer for a new app called SU or Superuser (if you don't have this retry Gingerbreak). if so go to the play store and search for a app called root checker (you may remove once done with it). open the app and tap verify root, if something pops up tap allow and theirs your proof of root. Now before we start flashing goodies and roms onto our phone we need to get a custom recovery. for this guide we are going to use Clockwork Mod but if you want to use twrp or amon-ra recovery go for it, my good friend venkat kamesh has given us a link to both twrp and amon-ra check out the second post. Go to the play store once again and download a app called Rom Manager, tap recovery setup, select the first option (install or update recovery) look for your phone model (should be LG VS740 or LG ally) and let it install and reboot.
1. Method one: back at the main menu tap reboot into recovery (if you want a little simpler method skip to step 4)
2. use the volume buttons to move and send button to select and make a backup of your stock ROM to your micro sdcard.
3. Method two: in Rom Manager here is a option to make a backup from here i don't use it but i guess it gets the job done.
WARNING DO NOT FACTORY RESET FROM THE ANDROID SETTINGS IT WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE USE ONLY CUSTOM RECOVERY WIPE DATA
Flashing Custom Roms
#3 Flashing roms can be done from Rom Manager but i will be showing you how to flash them from Recovery. download the ROM you want FOR YOUR PHONE ONLY (JUST BECAUSE THE ROM YOU WANT HAS SIMILAR SPECS TO YOUR PHONE OR SAME PHONE BUT FOR DIFFERENT CARRIER IT DOES NOT MATTER YOU WILL BRICK YOUR DEVICE </3) and get into recovery mode from Rom Manager. if you haven't made a backup make one now. once your done with backing up your stock, select wipe data, next select flash zip from SD Card and look for where you put the rom you downloaded onto your rom and congratulations you have Flashed your ROM! if your Rom comes with a gapps, you flash it after you flash your ROM so you have working Google apps such as the market and several other things but not all ROMs require them. (most likely only android 4.x.x roms)
Unroot
#4 You can only unroot if you get back to your Stock backup or you are on stock, Either SuperSU or Superuser should have the option to fully unroot.
Stock recovery (only use this when you are on rooted stock)

Can you add my ROM to the list: http://link.tapatalk.com/api/click?...rs.com&subid=cfcd208495d565ef66e7dff9f98764da
Thanks.

Thanks for adding it so quickly! My ROM is not the best LG Ally ROM, but it runs. It is basicly if LG had made Android 2.3.4 for the LG Ally. Just with a few bugs. WARNING: Camera flash does not work.

Of course, i read over it before adding it, ill have to try it myself.
Any of these roms still out there.
I Just wrote a huge explanation of why I was looking for some of these roms, but when i pecked" the "post reply" The thread told me game-over, and I respawned with a fresh new palette. :/
It would be well appreciated if someone could hook me up with the necessities to OTA and rom this (aloha). I can't find anything, anywhere...
I was fortunate enough to find a CWM image and velocity rom when i first got this from the good ole granny awhile back, but long story short, I no longer have them in my collection.
So I'm currently stuck at
2.2.1 ------Android version
FRG83D --Build (whatever that means)
2.6.32.9 ---Kernel
And I'm not sure if I messed it up flashing the wrong roms without doing the OTA, but it doesn't seem to be functioning properly, or as proper as i'd like it to...
If I could get ahold of some lightweight roms, supporting gapps, (and preferably oc'd), as well as the stock necessities to OTA this thing and make it decent again I would be overjoyed , I realize i could be just wasting my time but worth a try, (i hate to see such a nice keyboard go in the garbage. : D)
I basically either want to make this thing into either a handheld gaming emulator for the younger gen relatives (If that's' even a possibility), or just settle with an ip webcam///tinyCam pro app, to scare off all of the future nasty intruders that may come along someday .
If anyone has anything they could somehow get to me, it would be much appreciated.
If not then I guess i'm stuck dinking with my dualboot oneplus 2 chrooted with nethunter.
but of course... even that has no keyboard.

I could be wrong, but usually with older phones, You want to flash to the highest OTA that you can get to, because you did that it updates to the highest supported (optimized) radio and kernel, i believe the reason for doing this is that all roms higher or at the OTA build level use those assets but dont install them if you flash a rom that way, if you think its not functioning properly, its either the rom itself or as you said didnt flash properly, honestly i havent done anything android related in a very long time, the best advice i can throw at you is using a different rom, the only rom i would probably think you should use is the velocity rom really, You wouldnt want to do any overclocking on it, i know for sure it wouldnt give any performance improvement. i was also a little confused by what you wanted in your post.

Lack of OTA is probably my problem then.
I'm constantly getting an ota update notification, but currently have cwm installed with root.
I might have a stock backup somewhere, but I believe i'd have to take off cwm and root in order to get the necessary ota for velocity rom to run correctly.
Although i may be wrong.
I guess what i'm asking for is, if anyone might have one or all of the following
stock-recovery.img
velocity rom
Amonra or CWM
and whether or not they could dig it up without too much hassle.
I know it's old stuff, so i'm not too worried about it if it's not available anymore. No biggy really.
Thanks for the reply and explanation btw, needed a bit of a refresher

[Q] Noob to Rooting with Questions

First things first, i have successfully put Super User on my phone! Secoundly i want to thank all the hardworking geniuses that take the time out your day, to benefit the internet with you wisdom. with that said i have no clue what direction to go in after if got Super User on my phone. Now since i know we all love list im gonna make a short list of what i want to accomplish with rooting.
1. Get clockwork Mod on the phone (i read its a must have)
2. Get my phone updated to the latest android OS (currently have FROYO 2.2.1)
3. Get a stable tethering app on my phone that wont get ATT all up in my ass
Now if i cant get a tethering app that doesnt use up my limited data plan, then **** it ill be happy with the first 2.
Now i would like to apologize if i have mistakenly placed this thread in the wrong area. (first post btw)
Thanks to all who reply with helpful hints and links!

Download root checker app on Play Store to check if u really got root or any app needing root such as titanium backup!
Nevermind! Forget the above and do the following if you want latest stock gingerbread 2.3.6 version with root!
Download the zip with root! Doing the following will erase all your data! If u got root, use titanium backup to back up your data on external sd to restore them!
Is a must to have Samsung drivers installed on PC and you have a usb cable!!
Download mode: Pull off battery! Replace it and don't switch on. Hold both volume up and down continuously while connecting the usb cable to PC with phone still switched off! Follow the install procedure word by word and u should have GB 2.3.6 with root!

A custom recovery is not necessary if you won't flash any custom ROMs!
If you wanna flash custom ROMs afterwards, follow this thread:
