Anyone else's Inspire getting crap speeds? Why is my x10 slaughtering this?

I had the same problem. Try creating a new APN then switching back to the original one. I was getting 0.5mbs then getting 1-3mbs afterwards.

I am seeing the same thing. My download is typical (1-3mbps here in SF), but my iPhone would typically get 1-2mbps upload and I cant get better than 400kbps on the Inspire 4G

Until the root\rom becomes less buggy I'm just going to deal with the slow upload speeds. Upload isn't a huge deal for me anyhow, it's all about the download, baby!
Download seems to be as fast as ever, at least as fast as AT&T's network will support here. We're still limited to about 1-3 mbps in SF, whereas when I go to Seattle or Vegas I commonly see 4-6 mbps... Bummer they're so slow to upgrade backhaul.

Yeah.. in boston i am lucky to get 1.5. I am guessing they haven't flipped the switch on the 4g? Sort of horrible how they advertise it though, walked by a att store in the mall tonight and there were signs all over the place about it.

Well there's no "flipping the switch" because all the hardware in the metros has been upgraded to HSPA+... but the issue holding us back on speed is the backhaul going into the network. It's like going from 802.11g to 802.11n and expecting your internet to go faster... if you only have a 10 mbps internet connection going into it you can have the fastest router on the planet and the internet still won't go past 10 mbps... that's ATT's issue. The HSPA supported the backhaul just fine, they weren't maxing it out, and now HSPA+ aka their "4G(like) Speed Network" has the technology in place, but until they upgrade the individual tower's backhaul, houston, we have a roadblock :-( Good ol Ma Bell http://media.xda-developers.com/images/icons/icon13.gif

Same here only getting 2.5mbps Max in SoCal...sometimes just .60-.80mbps lol..

What's the real deal with "4G"

I've heard everything. From you'll need a different Sim to get 4G speeds, you'll need to change your data plan, and at&t hasn't launched 4G yet. What's going on? I personal can't get speeds over 2.2 mbps and from what I've read nobody else can either. Whats the real deal here?

real deal is att just relabel their 3G as 4G!
on att map, it shows i got 4G coverage in bayarea, CA.
but speedtest is the same as my regular 3G phone (captivate)!
Heck Rochester NY my Captivate if faster than the "4G" speeds. I can get 3.3 down 1.2 up on average on the captivate. Inspire is around 2.2 and .2.

fake 4g vs real 4g
I was told by an att employee that they won't be launching the 4g until June. It will show up on your phone as 4g coverage but won't get the speed of it until June.
Anyone else read the title of this thread and think of "The Real Deal with Bill McNeil?"
Also, signs point to hspa+ not being turned on til some mystical future day.

I have 4G in Seattle.
I also was given a new Sim card, a bit different then the one I had for my Captivate.
I am getting anywhere from 2.5mb to 6mb DL.
The real deal is that AT&T (well all the carriers) lied to us and the newer speeds will be rolled out whenever they feel like it.
I don't know anyone who's in the prime 4G spots who gets decent speeds (without or without the patched HSUPA).
I like others on the forums have heard many mixed things about when they'll officially be rolling the faster speeds out but for the moment we all got duped.

I am in Baltimore (launched 4G market) and I get better speeds in the 3G areas then I do in the center of the 4G areas.
Kinda ****ed up!
Patience
O.k. here is the real deal... an actual answer to your question rather than simply posting my speeds.
4g is being rolled out in several phases. Lets tackle them one at a time.
First AT&T is releasing HSPDA+ as 4G... technically it is not 4g but since T-Mobile is advertising it that way, so is AT&T. This has 2 different upgrades to make it work. 1) They had to do a software upgrade to the transmitters on the cell towers. I believe that it is either all complete or close to complete. So technically they are using a 4g network for those transmissions. However that leads to the second step. 2) They need to upgrade the physical wires feeding the towers to handle the additional speeds. This is a much more massive process and a much slower roll out. This is called backhaul and is creeping out now, tower by tower. (T-Mobile is in the same boat, and they also do not have their backhaul anywhere near done.)
Second phase is to upgrade the entire system to LTE (a true 4g) This process is not supposed to start until summer and not be significantly built out until mid - late 2012. Verizon also does not have much of their LTE network built out, and don't even have their LTE phone on the market yet (the Thunderbolt).
I still work in an area with only Edge... a little patience and it will get to you. I can tell you that even without the HSPDA+ network running, it is still a ton faster than my Tilt2.

Data speeds issues, need unmodified APN

So I been having problems with my data speeds since my bill cycle started over. I can't get speeds over .04-.05mbps anywhere! when I know I get 3.5-5.5 on a good day and area. I was throttled last bill cycle but now on this bill cycle I'm still at throttled speeds. I've called tmo already 3 nights in a row to see if they still had me throttled. They say I'm not throttled, they troubleshooted so I have a trouble ticket out right now. I'm just trying to see if I can get this fix myself. Tmo is lagging on calling me back. I need my 4g speeds back.the phone is horrible withou it and its killing me.
I just want if anyone with the factory unmodified apn settings can do me the favor of posting it up so I can match it with mine. I would really appreciate it.

well changing the APn's will not adjust anything as far as speeds go. it's a connection problem between your phone and T-Mobile's servers. If you are that low and showing "h" on the not. bar then they still have you programmed as being throttled.

are you still at the same area where you used to get the much faster speeds? I've had the mt4g since January and even though I have the "H" and full bars in my city the speeds are always between .15 to .6Mbps down, while the upload is usually around 700Kbps. Got trouble tickets going and service calls until a network engineer showed up at my location to do some testing. Turns out I'm sitting about 40 feet away from the t-mo tower, but given their current configuration, those speeds are all I'm going to get until there's further tower upgrades! I can hop on the freeway and drive south for 20 minutes and find a signal that gives me speeds of 2 to 4Mbps, but too bad I don't live or work there. I was put through the tedious troubleshooting "steps" too, even went as far as visiting a t-mo store and doing side-by-side testing with my phone and two of their phones, switched sim cards twice too. All that drama just to be told that the tower is operating "normally" in its current configuration and that's all the speed I'm going to get for a long time.

Yea I'm still in the same area where I used to get great 4g speeds. Basically most of los angeles has 4g so every where I went I had great speeds. Now every where i go is crappy. The thing is my girl and I are on the same contract and have the exact same plan. Her mt4g is lighting fast as it should be where mine is super slow in the same areas as her and we live together. At first I thought it was the sim card. I did a test where I put my sim in her phone and mine on hers then hers was getting crappy speed and I was getting great speeds. So I thought it was the sim issue every one was talking bout. So I went to a tmo store and they gave me a new sim. But still that didn't fix the problem. So now I knew that it wasn't a problem with the sim nor the device. That's when I really knew the problem was at their end.

Also just FYI, the overall signal quality in LA isn't as good as in San Diego, but not to the level where you will have problems.

I've done speedtests all over L.A. and the slowest I've gotten is here at work in a brick building next to a hill with bad reception for all carriers, and I get about 8/1 here. Everywhere else I get much better speeds, sometimes 20+/10+.
Well I happen to work next to the Airport in Salt Lake City, Utah so I only get 4G coverage at work. I take that back, I think the coverage is there because I work next to one of Verizon's largest call centers. Regardless my speeds are lopsided.
I'm getting about 12.5MB/second Down and 26.5MB/second Up

Verizon has 700mhz for the spectrum their LTE network is on. Sprint's WiMax is on 2500mhz, the highest of all for cell phone coverage, thus is absolutely sucks indoors worse than anything else. Sprint's 3G is on 1900 which is also sucky and worse than tmobile's 1700 for 3G which AT&T is looking to buy to put their LTE on. Verizon by far is going to have the best 4g coverage for a multitude of reasons.

AT&T LTE Network Going Live This Sunday

http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/att_lte_network_going_live_sunday
The cities included in this initial wave are Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio. Although users in those metro areas will still have very few LTE devices to choose from. Unlike Verizon, which has multiple LTE handsets, AT&T has no phones compatible with the new network. AT&T launched a data stick and a portable hotspot for the LTE network last month. The carrier has also started selling a massively overpriced Android tablet, the HTC Jetstream.
sweet im in San Antonio for a little while, now for AT&T to get some phones for me to use !!!
Now if they could hurry up and increase the HSPA+ speeds. I'm still only getting 3.5mb download and 1mb upload in downtown Dallas.... iPhone 3gs gets about the same download speed, although only half of the upload speed.
Come to the other side of the Metroplex. Downtown Fort Worth and I am getting 5-7mb down, 1.1-1.3 up. I can't wait for the Holiday with LTE. That will be SO sweet.

As mentioned, you would need a LTE phone first. But, being an hour away from Houston, I wouldn't run out and buy one when they become available. I live in the outskirt of Houston and HSPA+ is non existent at home. In Houston where I work, as posted, I am just now seeing the true benefit of HSPA+. Probably some bottlenecks from ongoing upgrades being freed up, maybe a little congestion as well.

Knowing how AT&T operates, I'd imagine they opened up more bandwidth to the land-based lines to the area first to make sure their LTE debut went well and you're just seeing some of that extra bandwidth.

I'm not as stupid as you. I know when I'm on wifi. Here is the proof.
Here are some from earlier today. The first two were indoors, a large metal building with offices above on the second floor. The first run was bad, only 2800kbps, but I did hit 4916kbps on the second. I then went outdoors and tested a lil slower than yesterday, but not by much, 6485-7767kbps. I know we can't put too much stock in the Speed Test app, but there is some consistency and I'm getting much higher runs than I had been. Also, it seems to be reading my wifi at home with some accuracy.

Show me where I made that statement. I stated that since the LTE launch, my data speeds have suddenly increased and I'm finally seeing true hspa+, and that is a fact. I provided a couple of possible reasons for this, as someone else cited a possibility as well. I know what you saw. You saw the hosted by Comcast in the screenshot. Lol. Anybody with half a brain would know that there would have been a wifi icon in the status bar if I was on wifi. Next time you open your mouth, try not to put your foot in it. Your little signature says it all. Just because you are in a crummy area, doesn't mean it is like that everywheres.
Check my screenshot of prior tests and tell me if you see any improvement compared to yesterday and today. LOL.

I'm good. I just don't appreciate someone implying I'm either stupid or I'm a liar. It certainly isn't inconceivable that while AT&T was building the LTE network here in Houston, they were improving the backhaul for hspa+. First, what speeds are you getting?
Second, changing APNs almost certainly will do absolutely nothing to change your data speeds.
Third, the SK4G doesn't have LTE. It has HSPA 21 as its theoretical max. The best I've ever gotten on it is about 14Mbps on the download.
Is LTE the only 4g option they carry? I just wanted plain 4g not 4g LTE. My speeds are around 250kbps. Very slow. Upload is around 1mpbs.
Also I just checked and I am well within the 4g coverage area of tmobile. I live north of miami

Is LTE the only 4g option they carry? I just wanted plain 4g not 4g LTE. My speeds are around 250kbps. Very slow. Upload is around 1mpbs.

They probably set maximum speeds based on your plan more than anything else. That being said, 250Kbps is a concern if your upload is 1Mbps. I'd call and complain. I know they weren't terribly helpful, but ask for a supervisor if you need to. You may get someone who speaks better English.

Thanks is that even 3g speed? There is nothing I can do on my end other than call?
That is crazy slow and I would for sure ***** to them, your getting edge speed, like when fake internet first showed up on nokias 10 years ago. Don't settle for less than 3mbs, anything less and they are ripping you off
