quiet release of source for Captivate??? - Captivate General

sorry i think the captivate source may be 2.1? should have wore my glasses this morning? When i went back to snag the zip as well i saw the i896 directly above specified froyo in the file name but the i897 doesn't. So my apologies if it is 2.1 source and please kill thread and have mercy if that be the case =)
+ i possibly should have posted this in general?
looks like silenty froyo source has appeared for both the vibrant and epic
i suspect the captivate will be next.
edit: please move to general if more appropriate.sorry

sadly i think the i897 must be eclair.....because the others have froyo in file name. Either way its a good sign as if they released it for epic and vibrant without any real notice and i suspect the captivate shouldn't be far behind. Had they previously posted the eclair source for captivate? At the very least looks like its worth keeping a close eye on the open source page today.

Yep, the Eclair source was posted twice, after the initial release of the Captivate (JF6 source) and the first update (JH7 source).

The hell? You realize that is just like the AT&T Captivate. Literally, the design is identical.
Why do you think that is froyo?
Not to mention that is definitely the Touchwiz UI in the picture.

The google search bar. Eclair samsung builds don't have it like that.
Video posted has TouchWizzy all over it.
I think by "stock", he means Froyo out of the box; Not vanilla Froyo.

Who is going to rip out that way sweet boot animation for us to be just as cool.

The people that would buy that don't have a need for a gps, so they wouldn't know the difference. They have what are referred to as "chauffeur".

Because, we can grab the ROM and pull stuff from it that we might like to have.
a) I'm going to assume you meant stock froyo with emphasis on froyo, because as people have pointed out, that is definitely TouchWiz which is not "stock" android (vanilla AOSP).
b) the only useful thing we can really grab out of this would be the modem.bin because it likely has HSUPA
c) not development related, let's wait until we have an actual dump or device to dump before we make posts like this please
I like how the Captivate model was chosen for an Armani phone. I've always felt that the Captivate was the more regal of the four models...and the least iPhone-ish (I'm looking at you, Vibrant).

Its not carbon fiber, its not even supposed to look like carbon fiber dude. It's metal (real metal by the way) with a nice design on it that people see it as carbon fiber but its actually just following the way all the other Galaxy S phone's look on the back.
Not Development related.

I'm running the i9000 build, with the headset jack fix, it's perfectly fine.
I don't understand why it is so good. I looked at it and doesn't look that special. But what do I know? Im perfectly happy with my phone with what we currently have available.

*facepalm* Okay, first off, you most certainly cannot learn C from a single forum post, you certainly can't become fluent in it without a couple of months put into it, and kernel deving is probably one of the hardest types of programming.
By all means, learn, but don't think it's something you can just look at and immediately know what you're doing.

So what exactly do you have to modify in the kernel to get the proper orientation or the headset jack fix?
And is your vibration extremely weak too?

To get proper headset logic, just replace you /path/to/cm/kernel/samsung/2.6.35/drivers/misc/sec_jack.c with the attached one (renamed to sec_jack.c, obviously). Alternatively, add the lines
Code:
#if defined(CONFIG_SAMSUNG_CAPTIVATE)
pdata->det_active_high = 1;
#endif
to the file between dev_set_drvdata(&pdev->dev, hi); and return 0; (near the bottom).
Orientation has not been fixed yet, someone just needs to port over xcals reorient. Whether that's me or someone else doesn't really matter.
And yeah, weaker than stock, for sure. Not unusable, by any means though.

Adding that line makes the headset work, but it kills wifi.
Edit: Actually, some changes that I made to the kernel yesterday also killed wifi. I don't know what's up there.

But the weird thing is that if I make any changes, even a single line, wifi breaks. If I go back and delete that line, wifi works again. So I guess for now it's either headset fix + voodoo sound w/o wifi, or no headset fix or voodoo sound, but with working wifi.
If there isn't a working captivate based rom/kernel for cm7 after about 2-3 weeks I will have some time to get working on this.
ytt3r is gonna be building a kernel in the next couple of days. he is asking for testers i believe.
I just reoriented and fixed headset jack. I'm going to compile tomorrow and see what's up. Since coolya's repo is broken, I still don't have source and I haven't compiled the rom, just the kernel. #cm7oncappy on freenode.

Andromeda for one, based on Armani and Cognition is based on the rogers release.
The Rogers source just dropped very recently so I imagine future cog releases will be even better.

Sorry, but Armani is not the same device as SGH-i897. If you flash through Odin the tar posted on samfirmware, it won't detect your sdcard and you'll have a mapping button problem, and screen orientation issue (Just like i9000 ROMs)
There're only two models sharing almost the same specs:

Just like some of us add more hp to our rides via flashing the pcm with certain calibrations, adding nitrous, or supercharger, diff camshaft, better valve springs etc. I myself like doing stuff like that. why does everyone consider the "ATT release" as THE FROYO RELEASE.
Europe and Canada released froyo first, ATT was late to the party.
Because it was THE FROYO RELEASE.... for AT&T.
Stupid questions get obvious answers.

Uhh...because thats when it was released for the Captivate on ATT (and your in a captivate forum)
Was it released?
I mean what does it mean to be released? When I think about all the (stated) people that bought the captivate (at&t), I have to imagine that the large majority of them are not "tech savy", and 1) don't even know there's an update 2) wouldn't really know how to go about updating even if they did.
I think, maybe, much of the bad press prompted this push out "early". Without OTA, this apparently large number of people (without techie type friends) may never update.
Having said that, I work with someone who just bought one and it came with 2.2 installed. Seemed to lag quite a bit. So does that define "released"? Does it start the clock on the source code release? Will there be a 2.2.1 or .2 or .3 release around the corner? Does anybody really know what time it is?
Thoughts?

rogers in canada has a captivate. they released open source 2.2 for it, but i don't know if there was much done with this open source by the devs. or if most of the JL1 roms are just stripped down versions of the rogers release. Maybe because ATT KB1 is a newer build or that it may contain uses for the audience chip i guess would be the only additional benefits over the rogers release?? i may be wrong.

LG f-d up Froyo, CM7 is working on a stable Gingerbread build, and LG is threatening to release a Gingerbread build that's going to fix the dozen problems their Froyo build created. So, the answer to your question is no. I think getting a stable version of anything mainstream on the phone is what everyone is focusing on.

I really am kind of a "the glass is half full" guy but I'm a bit skeptical. The problems we're experiencing on the G2X are the same as those who got the O2X six months ago. Assuming there was a four month development period on the O2X that means whatever is wrong with the s/w has been in place for ten months. It also took months of hammering by our European brethren before LG even publicly admitted there was a problem with the O2X. Knowing in advance the O2X had problems I got the G2X anyway thinking LG couldn't/wouldn't allow a repeat performance. We all see how that turned out. Unless LG hired away top HTC and Samsung programmers to build their 2.3.3 ROM the question of quality is a good one. I really really want LG to redeem themselves and I hope they do. Perhaps Paul would be interested in relocating to Seoul?
