It has been almost a week after the captivate sh*tty froyo release ( I never flashed it). I thought the MFG had 3 days to release the sorce code to be in spec with android
To be honest I "believe" it is around 30 or 60 days. But I'm leaning more toward 60 days.

a day or so after the official 2.2 rolled out john came back to post a thread.
I asked him in that thread when the source would be posted....can't believe he didn't respond
The epics source was posted before they actually even started the push so not sure what the delay is with the i897 source. Spite?

why does everyone consider the "ATT release" as THE FROYO RELEASE.
Europe and Canada released froyo first, ATT was late to the party.
Because it was THE FROYO RELEASE.... for AT&T.
Stupid questions get obvious answers.
I sure hope it's soon, it will be nice to see what the devs come up with once it's finally released.

Uhh...because thats when it was released for the Captivate on ATT (and your in a captivate forum)
Was it released?
I mean what does it mean to be released? When I think about all the (stated) people that bought the captivate (at&t), I have to imagine that the large majority of them are not "tech savy", and 1) don't even know there's an update 2) wouldn't really know how to go about updating even if they did.
I think, maybe, much of the bad press prompted this push out "early". Without OTA, this apparently large number of people (without techie type friends) may never update.
Having said that, I work with someone who just bought one and it came with 2.2 installed. Seemed to lag quite a bit. So does that define "released"? Does it start the clock on the source code release? Will there be a 2.2.1 or .2 or .3 release around the corner? Does anybody really know what time it is?
Thoughts?

rogers in canada has a captivate. they released open source 2.2 for it, but i don't know if there was much done with this open source by the devs. or if most of the JL1 roms are just stripped down versions of the rogers release. Maybe because ATT KB1 is a newer build or that it may contain uses for the audience chip i guess would be the only additional benefits over the rogers release?? i may be wrong.

The Rogers source just dropped very recently so I imagine future cog releases will be even better.

Sorry, but Armani is not the same device as SGH-i897. If you flash through Odin the tar posted on samfirmware, it won't detect your sdcard and you'll have a mapping button problem, and screen orientation issue (Just like i9000 ROMs)
There're only two models sharing almost the same specs:

LG f-d up Froyo, CM7 is working on a stable Gingerbread build, and LG is threatening to release a Gingerbread build that's going to fix the dozen problems their Froyo build created. So, the answer to your question is no. I think getting a stable version of anything mainstream on the phone is what everyone is focusing on.

I really am kind of a "the glass is half full" guy but I'm a bit skeptical. The problems we're experiencing on the G2X are the same as those who got the O2X six months ago. Assuming there was a four month development period on the O2X that means whatever is wrong with the s/w has been in place for ten months. It also took months of hammering by our European brethren before LG even publicly admitted there was a problem with the O2X. Knowing in advance the O2X had problems I got the G2X anyway thinking LG couldn't/wouldn't allow a repeat performance. We all see how that turned out. Unless LG hired away top HTC and Samsung programmers to build their 2.3.3 ROM the question of quality is a good one. I really really want LG to redeem themselves and I hope they do. Perhaps Paul would be interested in relocating to Seoul?

Yes, i'm sure once ICS source code is available our devs will port it over to our devices. With ICS being delayed probaly till end of November it's just a waiting game now...
I dont think it will take too long. I guess it depends how fast the devs get it and create one.
I had a Milestone 2 with a locked bootloader and it finally got Gingerbread but I think G2x is unlocked and easy to create.
Im sure it wont take no time to Cyanogenmod to stark working on ICS
I'm sure we'll get it. Thanks to guys like faux and the cm team, we already have an aosp base. I'm sure there will be drivers that need to be written/re-written, and bugs to work out, but we'll get it. Plus, I'd put money on the fact that once the source code for ics is released, the cm team will start integrating the newer version into cyanogenmod. We probably won't get it right away, and we definitely won't get it officially from lg or tmobile, but I'm sure we'll get it eventually.
Once CM8 is released, it should be released on the G2x along with other devices. I just hope we can disable the software Home & Menu keys.

Android 4.0 is suppose to be compatible with all android devices within 2 years old, and manufactures have agreements with Google that there should be official releases on all these devices. I highly doubt that will happen.
Also, the next Nexus device, by whatever name, won't be exclusively Verizon. It may for a period, but the FCC Documents show that it does in fact HAVE AT&T/Global AND T-Mobile 3G/4G bands, and no LTE.
Wait for official announcements on the phone, but I can guarantee the G2x will have 4.0 one way or another.
The agreement to update all devices for 18 months its for devices released post-ics. We're not eligible, though we will probably get CM8.

from what I hear MR. CM himself uses the g2x as his personal device so I think it will happen prety fast probally faster than others. I could be wrong about that I read it on a fourm when the g2x was still new. You never know how reliable those sources are.
I heard he got a job with Samsung. Though I speculate nVidia will release drivers since so many devices use the T2 soc
Not too worried since the g2x community has a lot of talented and smart developers already
I would expect an official upgrade as well though, seriously its a google experience phone, while not the top selling it has the specs and what not to get the upgrade.

so samsung announced the unveiling of the nexus prime: october 19. i was watching a video on huffington post and it was talking about different handsets being announced through different manufacturers and carriers, all running ICS. it really made it sound like ICS is going to be a selective update and that some phones may not be getting it.
what do you think the odds of the g2x getting this update are? i'm slightly annoyed that the prime is being released shortly after i bought my g2x. i figured we would have another droid bionic situation and be waiting months for the prime. i'm going to be even more annoyed if the g2x is another tmobile forgotten device.
thoughts?
source: huffingtonpost.com/2011/10/14/android-ice-cream-sandwich-release-date_n_1010973.html
I doubt we will get an update, but eventually we'll get a system dump of ICS & the devs here will make it better than what it is.
I have a feeling it's not going to get it. It's a great phone, but T-Mobile just doesn't seem to be pushing it very hard. There is a small chance that this phone will get ICS, but I wouldn't hold my breath. We'll most likely have to wait for the developers here to get their hands on it before we get it.
Well,i donr think we will get an update. But I'm okay . Miui have the apn fix now, so I'm happy with my g2x lolz

LG will never update this phone ever again. Gingerbread was an absolute fiasco and they have washed their hands of the G2X. We'll probably get CM8 though, and just like with 7 devs will use that as a springboard to create all kinds of things.
