[Q] Windows Mobile on HTC Inspire? - HTC Inspire 4G

I know, this is a strange request, but I am one of the few that actually loves Windows Mobile 6.5 and I have all my apps that I like, etc. Does anyone know if there is a Windows Mobile ROM that will work on the HTC Inspire? I know the hardware is very similar to the HD2. My phone plan is up for renewal and rather than drop $500 plus on an HD2, I would rather use the subsidy for a renewed contract and get the HTC Inspire for $70 right now. Anyone ever tried this?

I'm sure its possible. I just doubt anyone would ever want to port Windows 6.5

How about windows 3.1 on the phone?
http://www.michaelv.org/
accualy works great if you want to trick someone. open it up in a computer browser and hit the fullscreen button!

I'm wondering if Windows Phone 7 will be ported. It may be fun to play with.

Used HD2 can be had for ~$200, no need to spend five bills.

I have been looking, but unfortunately I need the T9193 for AT&T 3g - that drives the price up considerably. Cheapest I can find is $550 new and every now and again I can find one on ebay between $450 and $500. The inspire is the only other product line that ATT carries with the 4.3 inch screen.
So I guess my question now becomes, will I like android as much as everything I have gotten used to in my Very highly customized WM 6.5 roms I have been using on my phones for the last few years? I know Inspire is too new for any customizations yet, but it will be forth coming. My old Fuze is on its last leg and I need to pull the trigger soon.

After using this phone for a bit I seriously doubt you will want to go back to Windows mobile.

Thanks all, I think I have made up my mind. I am going with the Inspire.

Help choosing a cheap late model android phone

So I'm a wimo guy through and through. I don't even plan on upgrading to WP7. I do want to play around with android a bit though. Carrier is not an issue as long as its GSM. I'd like to get froyo eventrually but its not a deal breaker. At least I would like 2.1. Looking for something highly customizable so something that has been hacked to death so I can do some real tinkering with android. I'm leaning towards the hero since everyone seemed to love them in their day and you can pick one up for around $125. Any suggestions? Or thoughts of things I should think about before I take the plunge? This will not be my primary phone but just a play phone.
My touch 3g, i think for tmo
Sent from my Hero CDMA using XDA App
No, absolutely not a myCrap3g (excuse me). Get either a Xperia X10, HTC Desire, or Samsung Galaxy S 9something.
Edit: if you want a cheap yet good phone, then the HTC legend is the way to go. Or x10 since those are going cheap on eBay, but that's donuts. So, legend is your only choice. Don't waste your time on the Hero, or any of the maxtouch phones.
Hello, I would like some help from you, I saw a cheap tablet,(HKC) Q79, that looks a lot like mini iPad, the internal configuration is also good, I want to know this tablet is worth or not?. Thank you!!
Check out Chinese phones . theres this quad phone for 150$

galaxy s or hd2 or ???

ok so this is another help me decide post sorry but i really would like some advice from some knowledgable people. heres my situation, i currently have an iphone4 which i just bought and will be taking back(or selling) though i do like it but it is very slow on 2g slower than my kaiser 8925(tilt), i dont get 3g where i live. i am very interested in the intl version of the galaxy s, i was thinking of selling the iphone and buying the intl. galaxy s with the forward camera, led flash and flash support. BUT ive read some cons about the galaxy including the gps being crap. i know 2.2 is coming soon hopefully it will fix it.
also to complicate my situation a little more my contract is up sept. now if i keep or sell the iphone i will have a new 2 yr contract. i would love to be out of my contract so i have been thinking of buying a tmobile hd2 for my att, since i dont get 3g it doesnt really matter that it wont work on 3g plus i seen there was a way to change something in the network settings to make the hd2 much faster on 2g, dont know if that works or not.
i geuss what i want to know is how is the hd2? i havent done much research on it, just read you can run android on it, that sounds nice. how well does that work? does it fix the freezing problems that i read were so common in the beginning? how is the gps? thats very important to me! lastly what do you guys think? keep new contract and get galaxy s or be free from contract and get an hd2 for less money and wait till they fix the iphone or samsung fixes galaxy s? sorry so long, thanks guys.
I'm tired and will keep it short.
Galaxy S.
Leo would be my choice

Yeah I figured wm would be slow even on the hd2 but what about with android how is it then? I really want the galaxy s but I can't deal with no gps, that's a deal breaker for me, anybody been able to make it work reliably?

@both: WM could be a bit slow but now I´m using Android Froyo on my Leo!
Can you do that on a galaxy?
Also HTC is much better design and quality
I think if you will pay less and without a contract, then the HD2 is your choice.
Just go the HD2 section here in the forum, and you'll see lots a lots of new rom to chose from.
With this handset you will have the best of both worlds (WM and AD). Remember that Windows Mobile is still a BIG player in the mobile world. There are tons of applications, not mentioned that you have a lot GPS applications to choose from.
For me WMobile it's a world that I can't live without yet, and HD2 has it all!

Nexus S 4G or HTC Arrive?

With all the Google voice problems, reception problems and such, I'm seriously considering an HTC Arrive before the 30 days is up.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
ive considered it myself as i do like wp7 but i would pass up the arrive if i were you. now if the hd7 was out id buy one of those. personally ill wait on the nokia wp7 line to ship.
I have a NS4G and also have an HTC Surround on AT&T. WP7 is pretty fantastic, but it's a bit limited right now. It's excellent at what it does, though. Like really fantastic.
The Mango update later this year will make it a very compelling OS and all of the current phones will be updated to it.
The ZunePass in also amazing. $15/mo gets you 10 songs to keep and unlimited downloaded tunes. You can sync with 3 different devices too so family plans are covered under that one cost. The Zune interface can't be touched by any other OS when it comes to music imo. Syncing is fast and the OS is very solid.
I'd say try them both and also play with a Zune HD as the music interface is the same in case a demo unit has no music loaded. Gaming is also excellent on WP7.
I'll be picking up an HD7S when it launches on AT&T next month.
I probably will end up with the Arrive, just cause I want something different.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
But I have to make a decision in 30 days as of may 18 or whenever the NS4G launched.

Or you can just wait till the end of the year and see what's out...and read reviews.

Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
it basically comes down to android vs. wp7 for you.
I was in the same boat as you. I'm not a big fan of android and prefer windows for its minimalist approach on interface. However, the arrive is an ugly p.o.s. of a windows phone and I am pissed off at sprint for not offering a keyboard-less version.
Alas, I needed to upgrade and got the nexus s instead of waiting around for sprint to actually offer good phones. I gotta say, I am very impressed with the nexus. Unless you're willing to have a brick of a phone to just use windows or willing to wait for sprint to offer those yummy Nokia windows phones, get the nexus. You won't regret it.
But if sprint does offer a pretty windows phone, I'm all over that like white on rice.

the only phone that is worth while right now if you give back your ns4g is the evo and maybe the evo shift.
i wouldn't buy a wp7 until the mango update comes out, maybe even wait for the nokia line to ship.

I dont think I could ever get a windows phone. To me android is light years ahead of windows phone not to mention all the things that come with google like docs and google voice. I dont see microsoft doing anything like that or if they do how much will it cost.
Google voice would be nice.... IF IT WORKED ON THE NS4G.

Microsoft has some great services too... just that nobody uses them. WP7 with the mango update looks amazing. More polished than Android, not suprising since they've been making OS's for decades. I honestly see Mango being better than Gingerbread.
I'm a heavy Google services user but I already use Office/exchange and Xbox Live, if I migrated to Zune it'd be a compelling phone. Plus I have no doubt that MS will have some great unison between WP and Windows 8. Google doesn't seem to care if Android works with ChromeOS or even the Chrome browser.

You could always return it and get a cheap phone off craigslist until you find a compelling phone. Hell, if you want Android until the Mango WP7 update, just pick up an EVO or Hero used until you find a phone you want to use your upgrade on.
Just because you have the upgrade doesnt mean you have to use it until you are ready. I have annual upgrades and just held on to my Hero until the Epic came out. I may return mine IF the Evo 3D has a bootloader unlock ready by release.
i got to play with the arrive yesterday at the sprint store and as much as i like wp7 that phone is much too small for my tastes. now if they had the hd7 i would of bought that for sure. i still think people should wait until the mango update come along with the nokia line. ive seen photos of prototypes and the phones look like beasts.
im not dedicated to android, im a phone enthusiast too. just as if sprint gets the pre3 or a webos slab device ill be moving to that. it's fun to try out new devices & operating systems. too bad wp7 is still soo locked down.

[Q] iPhone 3GS Or HTC Radar

Ok Here Is The Deal I Broke My Phone So i Thinking Of Getting A New One And Im Thinking Of Getting The iPhone 3GS Or The HTC Radar And Here Is Why:
iPhone 3GS:
Well Im Not So Good On Money So i Want Something That Is Decent On Speed And Gaming.
HTC Radar:
Again Since Im Not Good On Money A Want Somthing Fast With Good Graphics For Gaming And That Looks Cool And Has Something Different From Other Phones.
Well The Reason Im Asking For Your Opinions Is Because I Love Gaming On Portable Devices And Because I love Windows Phones But Im Not Sure About Jailbreaking Windows Phone And i Know Everything On How To Do It On iPhone But I Love Windows.
HTC, because it is better.
Ofcourse it is HTC Radar
If you had to pick between those two, then go for the HTC Radar, which not only runs WP 7.5 (which is smooth), it has a decent camera and you'll likely be receiving future software updates as Microsoft has a good update policy towards Windows7 phones. iPhone 3Gs might be free, but it's on its last tank of gas in terms of support by Apple and it's hardware specs. It just won't satisfy many users today, if you're looking for a modern smartphone.
I would suggest picking up something even better than those two, like a Samsung Galaxy SII phone which can be bought for free (with a 2 year contract, of course) if you look for deals online. It's awesome for gaming and it's one of the fastest phones out there. Or go with the Sony Xperia play, also a good choice for gaming.

agreed. there are plenty of good phones out there for cheap.
3GS. If you're even asking, then an Android powered phone is not for you.
For hardware the HTC will be the better of the two...maybe not speed, but graphics, display and such. For games, the iPhone can't be beat.
If you are wanting a gaming phone, the iPhone would be the one to get right now. If you want better hardware...higher res display and such, the HTC will be the one to get.
Also, the battery life will be better with the iPhone. WP7 is horrible for BL right now.
Seriously? Why do you even ask? The 3GS is ancient. The screen is horrible, the camera worse and soon it wont even be able to run the latest games. The Radar on the other hand has a nice screen, a fast snapdragon processor and will probably have a huge support hy Microsoft.

OP, the iPhone 3GS is old now, and like you said, you're low on money so why on Earth would you go for an iPhone when you pay an extra 50% just for the logo on it?!
I'd go Android and get a HTC Sensation, but between these two I'd go for the Radar, especially as you said you love WinMo

actually, it's windows phone. Winmo has been dead in the water for years now... Good riddance. Windows phone is the only OS you can get that's lag free and in terms of performance it blows the others away. Also, if you're an Xbox owner, there's no other viable option. Radar all the way man, time to enjoy your mobile experience.

What device introduced you to the Android world?

I remember back in the days, when the phones actually were used for phone calls and maybe couple of texts. I'm not that old school, at least at she 30, I still consider myself pretty young. Growing up, racing cars was my passion. After becoming an adult, getting married and having kids, everything changed for me. Couldn't spend the amount of cash I used to on cars. So I decided to sell my car. And with having experience only on couple flip phones, including the EXE, I decided to order a blackberry Curve 8330. I stated getting interest in the tweaking and messing with it. Updating firmwares was about the most exciting thing I was doing back them. One day I walked in a radio shack store, and there it was, the HTC HD2. Immediately feel in love with the big screen and design. It was love at first sight. Being a windows phone didn't matter at the time, since I was not familiar with the Android world, so I didn't know better. Then, came across XDA, and everything changed. Started reading about Android and the goodies that it had, and found out that there was a way to boot Android on my device from the as card. Had the first taste, and never looked back. Currently own a Samsung galaxy Note, running ICS 4.0.4, and I'm loving it.
That's the way I was introduced to this amazing world, with all this amazing people, willing to sacrifice time with the family and restless nights cooking awesome software for people that they not even know, and many times aren't even grateful of their job. Thanks Android, for giving me a great opportunity of interacting with awesome and brilliant people. And grateful for this great hobby.
for me it was the HTC G1, Edge speed on At&t was awful but I really loved the phone

I've had a cellular phone since before cellular was available to the public (worked for an equipment mfg and was part of the field trials). Since then, I've had a butt load of phones. My first smart phone was Windows CE, had several WIndows Mobile phones after that. Then came the Dell Streak - fell in love with Android and will never go to anything else. Current phone is the GNote, just wish it would get ICS soon.
HTC Hero, sense was an awful experience. Everything about that phone was laggy but i loved the design of it.

original HTC EVO Here only had it a short time though Play store wasnt what it is today I went back to iPhone till the note came out now i'm sold
June 2010 I got the Motorola backflip I feel in love with Android but after the first 6 months the processor at 528 mhz was unbearably slow. The great devs created cm7 for it which just barley made it bearable to wait until February when my contract was up. I had no problems moving from the 3.1in screen to the 5.2 in screen on the note. I still think having the keyboard on the back than flipping backwards is the best design for a phone with a keyboard.
My first Android device was the Mytouch 3g Slide. I absolutely loved that phone. I rooted it and threw CM on it and the phone was blazing. Later that same year, I went and purchased my first vanilla Android device, the HTC G2. Never thought about getting a non vanilla Android since.

It was a pretty terrible phone, but my first smartphone with a data plan.
Ive had my fare share of phone over the years. My Signature below shows all of them in order....I loved WM phones and being able to flash all the different roms that everyone on XDA made for them. So of course once I could finally got an android that would work on att I switched over and loved it ever since! The TMobile HD2 was my switch over phone...running both WM and android...it was nice having WM for daily use and Android to start playing with and use to so once the HTC Aria came out I made the full switch to android.
My first was a blackberry curve, I didn't do anything to it and didn't know much about phones at that time. Then I upgraded to the galaxy s captivate. with XDA's help I learned how to customize it the way I wanted! I retired my captivate for the note and I love this phone, and am grateful for all the devs on here to help me customize this beast.
