With all the Google voice problems, reception problems and such, I'm seriously considering an HTC Arrive before the 30 days is up.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
ive considered it myself as i do like wp7 but i would pass up the arrive if i were you. now if the hd7 was out id buy one of those. personally ill wait on the nokia wp7 line to ship.
I have a NS4G and also have an HTC Surround on AT&T. WP7 is pretty fantastic, but it's a bit limited right now. It's excellent at what it does, though. Like really fantastic.
The Mango update later this year will make it a very compelling OS and all of the current phones will be updated to it.
The ZunePass in also amazing. $15/mo gets you 10 songs to keep and unlimited downloaded tunes. You can sync with 3 different devices too so family plans are covered under that one cost. The Zune interface can't be touched by any other OS when it comes to music imo. Syncing is fast and the OS is very solid.
I'd say try them both and also play with a Zune HD as the music interface is the same in case a demo unit has no music loaded. Gaming is also excellent on WP7.
I'll be picking up an HD7S when it launches on AT&T next month.
I probably will end up with the Arrive, just cause I want something different.

But I have to make a decision in 30 days as of may 18 or whenever the NS4G launched.

it basically comes down to android vs. wp7 for you.
I was in the same boat as you. I'm not a big fan of android and prefer windows for its minimalist approach on interface. However, the arrive is an ugly p.o.s. of a windows phone and I am pissed off at sprint for not offering a keyboard-less version.
Alas, I needed to upgrade and got the nexus s instead of waiting around for sprint to actually offer good phones. I gotta say, I am very impressed with the nexus. Unless you're willing to have a brick of a phone to just use windows or willing to wait for sprint to offer those yummy Nokia windows phones, get the nexus. You won't regret it.
But if sprint does offer a pretty windows phone, I'm all over that like white on rice.

the only phone that is worth while right now if you give back your ns4g is the evo and maybe the evo shift.
i wouldn't buy a wp7 until the mango update comes out, maybe even wait for the nokia line to ship.

I dont think I could ever get a windows phone. To me android is light years ahead of windows phone not to mention all the things that come with google like docs and google voice. I dont see microsoft doing anything like that or if they do how much will it cost.
Google voice would be nice.... IF IT WORKED ON THE NS4G.

Microsoft has some great services too... just that nobody uses them. WP7 with the mango update looks amazing. More polished than Android, not suprising since they've been making OS's for decades. I honestly see Mango being better than Gingerbread.
I'm a heavy Google services user but I already use Office/exchange and Xbox Live, if I migrated to Zune it'd be a compelling phone. Plus I have no doubt that MS will have some great unison between WP and Windows 8. Google doesn't seem to care if Android works with ChromeOS or even the Chrome browser.

You could always return it and get a cheap phone off craigslist until you find a compelling phone. Hell, if you want Android until the Mango WP7 update, just pick up an EVO or Hero used until you find a phone you want to use your upgrade on.
Just because you have the upgrade doesnt mean you have to use it until you are ready. I have annual upgrades and just held on to my Hero until the Epic came out. I may return mine IF the Evo 3D has a bootloader unlock ready by release.
i got to play with the arrive yesterday at the sprint store and as much as i like wp7 that phone is much too small for my tastes. now if they had the hd7 i would of bought that for sure. i still think people should wait until the mango update come along with the nokia line. ive seen photos of prototypes and the phones look like beasts.
im not dedicated to android, im a phone enthusiast too. just as if sprint gets the pre3 or a webos slab device ill be moving to that. it's fun to try out new devices & operating systems. too bad wp7 is still soo locked down.

The wm7 os looks really clean so im really undecided, the my touch HD spec, and what it offer win me over... so im like ugh
I'm with you, I want to give WP7 a chance. But MSFT has failed for so long it's hard to trust them now. I love the HD2, and the only thing that was missing from it physically for me was the camera button. Both phones have the camera button, I don't like not having a dedicated phone button though.
I already have the reps at my store holding a MT4G for me on Weds. Can't wait to take advantage of the 14 day return policy. If I don't like it I will return it, buy the HD7 and try that out.

WP7 is still new. You have to look at it as a developer's point of view. Rovio first developed for iPhone, then Android after it became more popular, and then they will probably develop for the WP7 if it ever gets popular. As of now, the money making markets are iOS and Android.
I wouldn't worry about how long it'll take for Microsoft to update their phones. Unlike Android, it's just like the iPhone, meaning every phone will have similar hardware so updates will be coming out much faster. With Android, Google releases the update -> Manufacturers do their thing -> Carriers then do their thing to if they want to -> Now the consumers get the update. With Microsoft, it'll be directly from them just as how Google supported the Nexus One.
Anyways, I would say stick with Android unless you don't mind being an early adopter for WP7.
I've had this phone since it came out in November and usually me being the tech whore that I am would get bored really quick and lust for the next big thing. As of now, I'm still loving this phone. I've rooted, on CM7, configured my screens the way I like it and sometimes I notice me touching and holding the phone just for the sake of it. Could this finally be love?? I feel like I just found a great girl and stopped going out trying to get with club chicks. lol!
Even when I go to the tech sites and checking out the new phones coming out in Barcelona, I'm like meh, I got a good "girl" at home, I'm not lusting after them. Damn, I must be getting old! hahahaha!
Yeah I said the same thing. Why did sense have so many features from espresso with the sliding bars and such only phone I even consider was the desire s cause it reminded me of the nexus one.

i share the same love as u guys. it's simple, the device meets our needs for an internet phone, and more, once rooted. how can u not fall in love with it? if u get a fully functional one, i mean.
I love this phone too! No other phone can compare yet. I'm like you, I always go for the newest toy but I've been holding on. However, the Optimus 2x might win me over.
Normally I am looking for a new phone by now (always like the latest tech) but not so much with this phone. It might take the next mytouch to get me away from my current one. I've said this many times, this phone just works.
Same here, I've changed phones a lot recently, jumping on the newest one out. At this point though, I'm acknowledging more that this phone can do pretty much everything the newest ones out can do.
About dual cores, I say "Eh.." Higher megapixel camera? Eh.. NFC? That won't be useful until maybe late this year.
Until something groundbreaking comes out that this phone can't do or do well, I'm sticking with it.
Yeah, this phone is rockin'. Even a lot of the newer phones being announced are still below spec compared to this phone - even more so when rooted, devoid of bloat, and OCed. It'll probably take a year before this thing is made "obsolete." This and the HTC Thunderbolt are the most exciting phones right now IMO.
agreed. im so happy i got to own a good one in the end. it freakin flyes.
i love my phone....
I agree 100%. My wife often tells me I'm cheating on her with my phone, my on reply is, "Sorry babe it's the other way around, I'm cheating on my phone with you." Drives her nuts. I gave her my Vibrant and traded my HD7 to get the myTouch, and I'm not getting rid of "her" anytime soon...

As a hd7/windows phone 7 user, i say go for it
it is a great phone and much more than 2 screens and you will love the experience with it vs android
and the social networking aspect of wp7 is definitely much better then what android has to offer(unless u get a blur device)
most ppl saying no to the hd7 are biased towards android
and if it's too big, that's why they have different variations of phones

Hmmmmmm, has anyone upgraded from a HD2?
I had a HD7 and it's just sad. No ability to customze anything.
So, I kept my HD2. I install ROMs as often as I change clothes. But, it is getting old.
I really want a Robot native device that performs well and has 4G capability.
The wife has a Vibrant and holly crap. That thing is the bigest pile of crap. I feel bad that I got it for her. It's slow, the XDA Support sucks since no one really seems to like it.
I been seeing the MyTouch 4g and it seems intersting.

+1 - I bought an Inspire 4G and am just so impressed with it. Just an outstanding phone in all manners. It looks beautiful. It feels beautiful. It works beautiful. The OS (Android 2.2.1 overlayed with HTC Sense 2.0) is just so supremely smooth, responsive, fast. But I saw mine get smoother, quicker and cleaner running after a couple days break-in period.
Regarding the Droid, I would highly recommend going with the Inspire instead. The Droid, in my opinion from handling them at Verizon, just can't compare to the pure and supreme smoothness of the Inspire from AT&T. There is so much to love about the Inspire. The skins are just a pure excellent feature and devs here at XDA create some good ones as well as the available official ones. And if you do go with the Inspire and want the majority of the available skins, I can upload all of the one I gathered here at XDA for you. I thing I have like 30 or 40 skins in apk form...meaning you just install them like any normal app.
You also get the HTCSense.com phone finder for the Inspire and it works well. You get access to the HTC hub and "Likes". HTC is a real and huge player in the smartphone market and they do make the best phones, in my opinion.
Good luck to you with whatever you choose.
the milestone 2 is the one boooyyyy
Okay. Let's add another perspective to this. I am also now considering switching back to an iPhone, or getting the Desire Z or the HTC Sensation. Opinions?
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
i think milestone 2 (or hd2) is best for you
If you're willing to spend the extra cash for the Sensation I'd say go for it. Latest and greatest sense 3.0 and all kinds of shiny stuff you may or may not need
Seriously though, it's the most recent and most technologically advanced out of the whole lot here.
I'd probably wait for the Sensation. The Desire Z looks nice if you really want a keyboard, but it's super overpriced IMO. (You have to import it in the US, I think).
Please, please, please, do not buy an iPhone right now lol. The new one will probably be out in six months.
If you have to buy something right now, I'd buy in this order:
1. Inspire
2. Desire Z
3. iPhone
4. Milestone 2 (is there even a compatible version of this for the US?)
i think milestone 2 is better
because it looks really cool
Milestone - I had the D1 since day one basically, and moving to a new phone was a really hard decision because I love having a physical keyboard...
However my need for faster proc trumped the need for a physical keyboard... I decided to go with the Thunderbolt... So far I am not missing the physical keyboard too much as the HTC IME works really well.
Which Sense phones include Swype? I'd take that over a physical keyboard.

I'd avoid the HD2 if you're planning on using it with AT&T. You'd need the Telstra version--people seem to think it's worth twice as much as the T-Mobile US. Also, if you're using it as your main phone, keep in mind that the only OS it officially runs is Windows Mobile 6.whatever. Expect to tinker and experience bugs if you're going to run Android or WP7. It's a really cool project phone, but I wouldn't use it as a main device.
If you want WP7 and AT&T, I'd wait for the HD7S or whatever it's called. Or maybe import an AT&T-compatible device (Mozart maybe?). AT&T's current offerings seem pretty "blah" to me.
EDIT: In summary, based on price and availability, I'd go with the HTC Inspire...
Well I'm a true tinkerer (is that a word?) And everything I get, I think,"lets hack it in whatever way possible." I am completely used to experiencing bugs. But the only phone I consider from at&t is the inspire, atrix, or the samsung focus (not including the iphone) I only look at the hd2 because of being able to hack and change in so many ways. that's like heaven to me.

WP7 is actually Microsoft's version of an iPhone. It is smoother, cleaner and more elegant. Things work more conveniently also. So far, after the NoDo/Samsung firmware update, mine has been perfect. Amazing reliability. Mine is 24GB, but adding a 32GB card would give you 40GB of storage. Something iPhone doesn't yet offer. But WP7 currently lacks much of the features other systems have which are supposed to be added in the upcoming Mango update sometime around the end of the year.
Yeah, the more I have my Focus, the happier I get. But if you do go with a Focus...it has 8GB internal memory...and want to add a card, I recommend using a class 4 or class 6 card.
Right now I have a class 4 card but it's pretty slow. But I've also considered the htc surround due to me being such a music lover. Even the quantum for it's keyboard.

Its been a while since I have posted here, but as I did not see a thread dedicated to this yet other then the previous one in the dev section about HTC reviewing their policy. Here is what Htc Said Today.
HTC
Devs, we’re making lots of progress on unlocking bootloaders: Today we can confirm the HTC Sensation and HTC EVO 3D will be supported! See out note for more info:
Update on Bootloaders
Thanks so much for providing feedback, we hear your concerns. Your satisfaction is a top priority for us and we're working hard to ensure you have great experiences with our phones. We're reviewing the issue and our policy around bootloaders and will provide more information soon. Thank you for your interest, support and willingness to share your feedback. **UPDATE** We’ve listened. Check out the statement from our CEO, Peter Chou on HTC bootloaders. Click the link for more info. http://on.fb.me/iZXgkR **UPDATE 7/10** <!-- p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 48.0px; font: 15.0px Calibri} --> We wanted to provide an update on HTC’s progress with bringing bootloader unlocking to our newest phones. We know how excited some of you are for this capability, and we’ve put significant resources behind making this change as soon as possible. While we wish we could flip a simple switch and unlock all bootloaders across our device portfolio, this is actually a complex challenge that requires a new software build and extensive testing to deliver the best possible customer experience. We’re thrilled to announce today that software updates to support bootloader unlocking will begin rolling out in August for the global HTC Sensation, followed by the HTC Sensation 4G on T-Mobile USA and the HTC EVO 3D on Sprint. We’re in the testing phase for the unlocking capability now, and we expect it to be fully operational by early September for devices that have received the software updates. We'll continue rolling out the unlocking capability over time to other devices as part of maintenance releases and new shipments. HTC continues its commitment to unlocking bootloaders and supporting the developer community. Because of the importance of this community to us, please expect an update on this about every few weeks as we make progress toward launch. Thank you for your patience and continued support!
By: HTC
While this is very promising to us, keep in mind there are still other restrictions they are trying to use to crack down on the dev community.
Such as Providers working with google, reviewing which devices by imei will not take an update, and possibly deactivating service from there... I don't remember the link to the site that was talking about it, as I am on a new computer and it was book marked on my crashed one.
If any one has the link please feel free to share.

I didn't feel that way when I had the cappy. Two months with that phone and I was already begging ATT to come out with something better... The inspire will hold me over just fine.
The Holiday sounds like it is worth it, I am saving my money now so hopefully I have enough for it when it comes out(of-contract). Im predicting about $700.
(Dont hate Im too young still to work so I don't have a steady job)

Judging by past HTC phones I would say it will more likely be around 500-600

Well it was a display model with the retailers software installed, it was originally listed for like 1000. I talked them down a little bit. The only the thing wrong with it is the keyboard is a little raised in one section but it doesn't effect the typing. So I had to buy it, because HP will still warranty it.

Sir, that's a win.
Back on topic here. The article I read stated that even though HTC wll come up with a tool to unlock the bootloaders, it would require approval from the carriers to be released. What are the odds? This just seems like a big ploy to put the finger soley on the carriers.

This is the next Nexus speculation thread.
Post any rumors you have heard of here and or share any information you may have for the next nexus phone (2013)
Index: Posts 2-922 are for the Nexus 4.
Posts 923-current are for the Nexus 2013
Solid Rumors/Confirmed information:
LG will not make the 2013 Nexus. Source
Personaly i think it is a little early to talk about next Nexus.
And there are to many variables. Google took Moto so i guess they could build on that.
But again there are to much players who wanna be on board.
PS: I hope that we wouldn't be so excited and droped from the tower again like with S3 if Sammy makes the next Nexus

Sorry Galaxy S3, I will wait.

From this looks like there could be multiple Nexus devices in the works which would be rather superb.
Am I correct in thinking that this would make more drivers available for the latest versions of the OS thus making it easier for the community to support other hardware with custom ROMs?
i.e. the S2 doesn't get JellyBean but other phones with the same hardware are released with JellyBean, resulting in the drivers for the hardware in the S2 being released and as a result the community being able to release a JellyBean ROM for the S2.
I personally wasn't impressed with the nexus and google tracking my info so I got a thunderbolt instead

It is true that all mobile phone is a massive data mining device, whether its Android, Windows or ESPECIALLY iPhone. But that just doesn't make "Sense". First off you are using Android, its an OS by Google, they are notorious for data collection. 'Sense' by it self has lots of data mining, then there was the whole debacle with HTC and CarrierIQ. I do not know if Verizon had CIQ on their HTC devices, however, haven't you heard about Verizon and how they release your private info to the fed (all carrier are required to that anyway).
The fact that the Galaxy Nexus is an international unlocked device, if you have the GSM version, ATT don't have its IMEI in their database and it don't have Carrier IQ installed.
The only way you can stop any smartphone from scanning you is to buy a device with no internet, gps, phone functions at all. Completely offline. I said especially iPhone because its a closed OS and you never know what Apple does to you, they actually tried to patent things like the phone taking your pictures and send GPS location when you jailbreak it. At least with Android, you have the SDK to work with.
I really want to see a quick preview of Jellybean.

Motorola and Sprint don't have a good relationship so if its Motorola then sprint will take extra months to get it

Or they can make one universal by taking parts from everyone. From Moto the battery, from LG the IPS display, from Sammy the processor and the build materials.....well definitely not from Sammy
I think it is a UTOPIA but we keep dreaming or at least i do
With the recent price drop for the Nexus in store and through Amazon--$50 for new customers--it seems possible that something is just about to drop, perhaps next month or so.
The Sammy Galaxy Nexus I didn't like, shows potential but vanilla looks too dark. Why'd you think I have an HTC Evo 3D white with a White 3600mah battery. And sense doesn't show too much dark. I don't know why. I can't stand going through my brother's Epic 4G with CM9 for more than 10 minutes.

Honestly, I highly doubt that any CDMA carrier will get another Nexus device. I am just speculating so don't go crazy here. But the fact that Google had to drop AOSP support to Sprint and Verizon devices is not a good sign. And the fact that Google now sells their own devices also supports that fact. They haven't sold their own since the Nexus One...and if you can find a CDMA version of that phone, you could make alot of money.

Which is why I hope the semi-rumors of google partnering with multiple OEMs are true. No more slacking off on the specs/accessories, Samsung; you've got competition now!
I definitely wouldn't mind seeing Sony take a crack at a Nexus device. I have never been a fan of Samsung products of any kind and it is one on the main reasons holding me back from getting a Galaxy Nexus right now.

Apparently up to five different OEMs are going to be used for the next Nexus phone. And there are not going to be any carriers for the next Nexus phone..so everyone's going to have to dish out the full price of the phone.
I do hope that Sony happens to be one of the manufacturers
Sony is a pipe dream. Motorola is more likely,or Samsung,or a combo.
