HTC Mytouch 4th or HD7? - myTouch 4G General

I keep, saying HD7 then I see the mytouch and get impressed, I don't want to take a chance, how can I be so sure that Microsoft will provide the updates that they are promising? I am still very in the middle, I have never really hated Android, I just don't like devices with 2.1 and below... so? HD7 or MyTouch 4g?

What do you mean 2.1 and below? The MyTouch 4G is coming with 2.2.

I know, I am just saying that Android 2.1 and below is what isn't great, 2.2 and up is

man i seen the my touch HD today in orlando and played around with it.... OMFG all i can say... right now im just like F wm7 but my mom getting the HD7 so im going to play around with it. but the my touch hd was freaking beautiful, the cam was amazing, the second Gen snapdragon made that phone speed threw app, the front facing cam was hella clear, the 4g didnt test that out but the phone was just freaking sweeetttttt.... its running driod 2.2 im not a big fan of driod at all so that a really big no no on my end...
The wm7 os looks really clean so im really undecided, the my touch HD spec, and what it offer win me over... so im like ugh

I'm with you, I want to give WP7 a chance. But MSFT has failed for so long it's hard to trust them now. I love the HD2, and the only thing that was missing from it physically for me was the camera button. Both phones have the camera button, I don't like not having a dedicated phone button though.
I already have the reps at my store holding a MT4G for me on Weds. Can't wait to take advantage of the 14 day return policy. If I don't like it I will return it, buy the HD7 and try that out.

As far as getting updates from Microsoft the hd2 has had two updates pushed out while the most amount for an android on tmo is 1 so Microsoft is doing updates its just really a matter of can you deal with it until they do launch the updates for consumer's.

It's not that they won't release updates with what I want, its how long I have to wait... by next year we could have a dual core wp7 device running the latest build... also I am scared that developers might not care for the platform. Rovio even said it themselves, they have no plans for WP7, no Angry Birds for a loooooooong time...

WP7 is still new. You have to look at it as a developer's point of view. Rovio first developed for iPhone, then Android after it became more popular, and then they will probably develop for the WP7 if it ever gets popular. As of now, the money making markets are iOS and Android.
I wouldn't worry about how long it'll take for Microsoft to update their phones. Unlike Android, it's just like the iPhone, meaning every phone will have similar hardware so updates will be coming out much faster. With Android, Google releases the update -> Manufacturers do their thing -> Carriers then do their thing to if they want to -> Now the consumers get the update. With Microsoft, it'll be directly from them just as how Google supported the Nexus One.
Anyways, I would say stick with Android unless you don't mind being an early adopter for WP7.

I must say, I still love this phone!

I've had this phone since it came out in November and usually me being the tech whore that I am would get bored really quick and lust for the next big thing. As of now, I'm still loving this phone. I've rooted, on CM7, configured my screens the way I like it and sometimes I notice me touching and holding the phone just for the sake of it. Could this finally be love?? I feel like I just found a great girl and stopped going out trying to get with club chicks. lol!
Even when I go to the tech sites and checking out the new phones coming out in Barcelona, I'm like meh, I got a good "girl" at home, I'm not lusting after them. Damn, I must be getting old! hahahaha!
Yeah I said the same thing. Why did sense have so many features from espresso with the sliding bars and such only phone I even consider was the desire s cause it reminded me of the nexus one.

i share the same love as u guys. it's simple, the device meets our needs for an internet phone, and more, once rooted. how can u not fall in love with it? if u get a fully functional one, i mean.
I love this phone too! No other phone can compare yet. I'm like you, I always go for the newest toy but I've been holding on. However, the Optimus 2x might win me over.
Normally I am looking for a new phone by now (always like the latest tech) but not so much with this phone. It might take the next mytouch to get me away from my current one. I've said this many times, this phone just works.
Same here, I've changed phones a lot recently, jumping on the newest one out. At this point though, I'm acknowledging more that this phone can do pretty much everything the newest ones out can do.
About dual cores, I say "Eh.." Higher megapixel camera? Eh.. NFC? That won't be useful until maybe late this year.
Until something groundbreaking comes out that this phone can't do or do well, I'm sticking with it.
Yeah, this phone is rockin'. Even a lot of the newer phones being announced are still below spec compared to this phone - even more so when rooted, devoid of bloat, and OCed. It'll probably take a year before this thing is made "obsolete." This and the HTC Thunderbolt are the most exciting phones right now IMO.
agreed. im so happy i got to own a good one in the end. it freakin flyes.
i love my phone....
I agree 100%. My wife often tells me I'm cheating on her with my phone, my on reply is, "Sorry babe it's the other way around, I'm cheating on my phone with you." Drives her nuts. I gave her my Vibrant and traded my HD7 to get the myTouch, and I'm not getting rid of "her" anytime soon...

As a hd7/windows phone 7 user, i say go for it
it is a great phone and much more than 2 screens and you will love the experience with it vs android
and the social networking aspect of wp7 is definitely much better then what android has to offer(unless u get a blur device)
most ppl saying no to the hd7 are biased towards android
and if it's too big, that's why they have different variations of phones

I was holding out getting the mt4g for a long time because I knew there was something better right around the corner (isn't there aways something right around the corner hah). Once I heard the rumors of the optimus 2x coming to tmobile, u knew u was right to wait. But then tmobile ran the free mt4g promotion last week. It was too good a deal to pass up, so I jumped on it. Hmmmmmm, has anyone upgraded from a HD2?
I had a HD7 and it's just sad. No ability to customze anything.
So, I kept my HD2. I install ROMs as often as I change clothes. But, it is getting old.
I really want a Robot native device that performs well and has 4G capability.
The wife has a Vibrant and holly crap. That thing is the bigest pile of crap. I feel bad that I got it for her. It's slow, the XDA Support sucks since no one really seems to like it.
I been seeing the MyTouch 4g and it seems intersting.

Will the Nexus S 4G Be Too Little, Too Late?

I'm a Sprint customer up for an upgrade soon. I definitely want to switch out this pitiful Palm Pixi for an Android device. The developer community for Android is just so much more motivated and exciting than the webOS community.
As everyone knows, there are two awesome Android devices coming to Sprint in the next few months. The Nexus S 4G and the HTC EVO 3D. I originally had my heart set on the Nexus S, but then I fell in love with the awesome specs of the EVO 3D.
My main question is, I know that there will still be developers working on the Nexus S in a year, but will I regret getting it over the EVO 3D, being that it has lower specs? Do you think the Nexus S is a better choice?

Hardware wise the Evo 3d is definitely better. I don't think the NS 4g is too late and my reason behind that is because if Google continues rolling out major updates for the NS long before other devices get them then the NS will still remain current regardless of lack of dual core. Software can definitely make an old device feel new.

As for the hardware, look at the Atrix...rubbish. EVO 3D should be a hell of a lot better than that though. I've been wanting to pull the trigger on a G2x but I keep holding off because I have a feeling there are going to be some killer uses of the NFC technology built into the Nexus S. If I'm wrong, I've still "stuck" myself with a truly fantastic device. As for getting updates early, it's not all it's chalked up to be so far with the NS. The one I have was stuck on 2.3.1 and I had to manually upgrade. As far as CM7 goes, the version built for the NS pales in comparison to the version I was running on my G2. Too many bugs and usability problems even with the "stable" release.

So do you think the EVO 3D would be better, based on the next-gen hardware?
Oh it will clearly have better hardware. But for what? There is nothing out there that taxes the Nexus S at this point. It is fast enough.
If you want the 3d or the bigger screen, wait. But don't wait for better performance, there is no point unless you just like running benchmarks all day.

Who knows, the Evo 3d might be the better phone. It all depends on what your looking for. What exactly do you want in a phone? Most likely the Evo 3d will have more developers than the NS, but the NS software will always be officially up to date and run more smoothly since the software was built specifically for this device. I think since more dual core, etc phones are coming out GOOGLE will continue to roll out major updates for the NS to prove that software plays a major part in smartphones. I personally don't see why we need a dual core phone if our phone is already fast, but that's just me.

I hate 3d and HTC, it is all BS just get a Nexus S, the whole idea that the Qualcom dual core is faster than Tegra 2 is false as well. They boasted that their 1.5ghz dual core processor can run circles around a Tegra 2 clocked at 1ghz. Well... OBVIOUSLY. Plus this is the same Evo just with 3d and a slightly faster processor, HTC is bringing fragmentation to a new level, they have software fragmentation within software fragmentation. A great majority of all of HTC's devices will not receive Sense 3.0. Nexus S wins by the software route, and maybe even the hardware one too, HTC cameras never perform as advertised and their screens are crap a lot of the time. Nexus S 4G may be late, but not too late. I would say it's late when you see a Tegra 2 device on Sprint like the Galaxy S2, it runs circles around the Evo 3D for sure, just Google some benchmarks.

It's my view on the technology this phone will use. I don't see what T-Mobile has to do with it and I'm a man.
This phone will use WiMax, if you're in an area that has it, maybe it will make you happy. My experiences with the Evo and WiMax in NY were negative.
Other than that it's a Nexus S on a CDMA network that will let Sprint customers enjoy the pure Google Android experience without switching carriers. That's great. Choice is great.
I personally wouldn't let WiMax factor into my decision if I was on another carrier looking at sprint.

if the nexus comes SOON, ill jump on it, mostly for the dev aspect and the gpu. if its not coming until first or second week in may, ill wait to handle an evo3d. the evo 3d is physically ugly though, imo and form factor means a lot to me.
i prefer htc to samsung but i may be playing with a ns4g very soon. Now if only I knew WHEN it was coming...cause no public release dates is straight up oscar mayer
For me, the 'getting updates first' perk of the Nexus S is more important than dual-core or 3d. Plus, I'm just sick of the Hero and want a new phone ASAP.

I'M IN SPAAAACCCEEEE! I'M IN SPACE! I'M IN SPACE!
Nexus-S is a bad ass device, who cares about dual core right now, I would wait until "Ice cream" update is out, for true dual core support, and then get the newest Android phone out at that time, which will probably be a dual core Nexus-3.0 that will be first phone with "Ice Cream" 3.1.
So get the Nexus-S now and have fun. And upgrade to the true dual core phone Nexus-3.0, when it comes out if you want.
Dual.core sounds tempting but im not a game player on my.phone. So for some the nexus s looks to be a great upgrade.

Nexus S 4G or HTC Arrive?

With all the Google voice problems, reception problems and such, I'm seriously considering an HTC Arrive before the 30 days is up.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
ive considered it myself as i do like wp7 but i would pass up the arrive if i were you. now if the hd7 was out id buy one of those. personally ill wait on the nokia wp7 line to ship.
I have a NS4G and also have an HTC Surround on AT&T. WP7 is pretty fantastic, but it's a bit limited right now. It's excellent at what it does, though. Like really fantastic.
The Mango update later this year will make it a very compelling OS and all of the current phones will be updated to it.
The ZunePass in also amazing. $15/mo gets you 10 songs to keep and unlimited downloaded tunes. You can sync with 3 different devices too so family plans are covered under that one cost. The Zune interface can't be touched by any other OS when it comes to music imo. Syncing is fast and the OS is very solid.
I'd say try them both and also play with a Zune HD as the music interface is the same in case a demo unit has no music loaded. Gaming is also excellent on WP7.
I'll be picking up an HD7S when it launches on AT&T next month.
I probably will end up with the Arrive, just cause I want something different.

it basically comes down to android vs. wp7 for you.
I was in the same boat as you. I'm not a big fan of android and prefer windows for its minimalist approach on interface. However, the arrive is an ugly p.o.s. of a windows phone and I am pissed off at sprint for not offering a keyboard-less version.
Alas, I needed to upgrade and got the nexus s instead of waiting around for sprint to actually offer good phones. I gotta say, I am very impressed with the nexus. Unless you're willing to have a brick of a phone to just use windows or willing to wait for sprint to offer those yummy Nokia windows phones, get the nexus. You won't regret it.
But if sprint does offer a pretty windows phone, I'm all over that like white on rice.

Microsoft has some great services too... just that nobody uses them. WP7 with the mango update looks amazing. More polished than Android, not suprising since they've been making OS's for decades. I honestly see Mango being better than Gingerbread.
I'm a heavy Google services user but I already use Office/exchange and Xbox Live, if I migrated to Zune it'd be a compelling phone. Plus I have no doubt that MS will have some great unison between WP and Windows 8. Google doesn't seem to care if Android works with ChromeOS or even the Chrome browser.

You could always return it and get a cheap phone off craigslist until you find a compelling phone. Hell, if you want Android until the Mango WP7 update, just pick up an EVO or Hero used until you find a phone you want to use your upgrade on.
Just because you have the upgrade doesnt mean you have to use it until you are ready. I have annual upgrades and just held on to my Hero until the Epic came out. I may return mine IF the Evo 3D has a bootloader unlock ready by release.
i got to play with the arrive yesterday at the sprint store and as much as i like wp7 that phone is much too small for my tastes. now if they had the hd7 i would of bought that for sure. i still think people should wait until the mango update come along with the nokia line. ive seen photos of prototypes and the phones look like beasts.
im not dedicated to android, im a phone enthusiast too. just as if sprint gets the pre3 or a webos slab device ill be moving to that. it's fun to try out new devices & operating systems. too bad wp7 is still soo locked down.

Buy Arrive, or wait for Mango?

I own an Evo, and my contract is up at the end of this month. I really want to go to WP7, but I don't (preferably) want a phone with a keyboard. I love the all touch big screens, but I wouldn't mind having a keyboard with a smaller screen.
I just want an honest opinion. Is it really worth sacrificing my Evo for a smaller screen with a keyboard, especially when I can (hopefully) get a mango device around 2012? (If Sprint even has one by then).
I have heard of the Nokia phones and the Mazaa that is supposedly coming, but you never know with Sprint's luck.
it is totally worth upgrading to the arrive right now especially since the mango beta can be found in these forums,it significantly increases the functionality and speed of this phone on the existing stock rom.

Yeah, but do you think there will be a phone similiar to the Evo (bigger screen, no keyboard)? I would hate to get it and then a few months later one comes out! Lol. I haven't gone to sprint to check out the arrive, yet. But when my upgrade is, I will keep it in mind.
Thanks for the input.

There very well could be. Hard to say whether Sprint thinks it's going to gain enough traction, especially with the iPhone supposedly coming. But I say play with the Arrive in store. The priority for me was the hardware keyboard and also the fact that I came from a feature phone.
Shrinking down in screen size probably won't feel the same for sure because you're losing so much viewable space. However, if you think the OS as a whole in how it functions is worth it to you then it might end up being a negligible complaint.
If you're really worried some new hardware might come out then just wait.

Yeah, but I don't want to wait and then be further away in a 2-year upgrade, and I think a 3.6in is still a good size.
My buddy has the Evo Shift and it seems to be a perfect size from messing with it. I had the HTC hero and that was a 3.2in all touch display lol.
I might go into Sprint. If don't like it, I have no choice but to wait. But I can't stand Android for another minute. But that is another subject lol.

I think u just answered your question then. if u can't stand Android anymore then go ahead and get the arrive then load the mango beta onto it and then never look back.

Holy s*** you're right. Going into the sprint store to pick up HTC Arrive next month.
I went from the Evo to Epic to Arrive and lemme say this...
I DO miss the Evo's screen size and just the overall build of the phone. Whenever I'm browsing on the Arrive I'm always like "I wish I had a little bit more" and when I'm in the messaging app I wish I had a little bit more space.
But that's just looking at the phone. Now, interacting with the screen is so smooth its sickening. I'm talking about the screen itself, like the material. I have an iPod Touch 4G and its just...bleh. I hate using it because it picks up fingerprints way too easy so your like "i'll just dry my hands and it'll be all good" but when you do that, the screen is extra rough and its hassle. The Arrive's screen is just smooth as eggs and I dont think it picks up fingerprints..I've never noticed them and I dont use a screen protector.
Now, the material + the OS responsiveness is amazing. Once you pick the Arrive, you'll be amazed. WP7 is just too smooth. The browser will destroy your mind. Also, the keyboard is friggin' nuts. I'm on the mango beta and the thing I love is how I don't even need to touch the delete key. Let's say your typing real fast...all you have to do is tap and touch the word to correct it. Well, Swype had that on Android so it may not be a big deal to you, but the big difference now is how the WP7 takes in account you hitting the letters right above the space bar, instead of the space bar. So, "thisbis" automatically autocorrects to "this is" Add in dynamic key resizing and there's really no need for a bigger screen for a bigger keyboard.
so yeah..enough my rambling....you'll love the Arrive.

I agree with you 100%. I haven't haven't picked up the phone yet, but I've heard good things. Such as the great keyboard, and I've never heard of the autocorrect on WP7, that is amazing. I constantly have to change my sentences because the words blend together.
The OS is by far my favorite, not as much customization, but I find myself constantly changing it on Android with different ROMs. And i have tried to setcup my Android so i can have a quick glance at the screen, juat to conserve my battery. The phones are a pain in the ass. I would rather pay for quality, IMO. Being able to have a phone that lasts for 3 days is definitely a plus, not to mention improvements with mango.
I too have gone from the Epic, to the Evo, now WP7. Ive watched so many videos on YouTube, and read great reviews on the phone, I might just pick it up next month.
Thanks for your comment.

You can get a brand new arrive from eBay for around $200. I'd go that route and save your upgrade credit for the next Gen wp7 devices this fall.

So you think there will be Nokia/other devices that will be of more quality, with Mango on them in the Fall? I mine as well wait instead of going through the hassel of getting a new device that isn't up to ALL of my expectations lol.
I still don't mind the Evo, but I am in love with WP7. I just want better hardware.

I think it's a pretty safe bet that new hardware will be released with mango. However, WHEN it'll get released on sprint is a question. As of now arrive's hardware is 1.5 years old already (first Gen snapdragon) so if you can wait I think you should.

Yeah man because I am not about to get a 2-year contract out on a phone that I might not like, well as much as an all touch display. But if I don't have any options by or shortly after Christmas I'm grabbing the arrive for sure.
Offnote, does the creaky tilt for the keyboard bother you? Does it lean to far to your face to where you need to tilt the phone to see it? I'm iffy about the design lol.

Honestly dude, just go to a sprint store on the weekend and play with it for a good 30 minutes. Granted the display model won't have mango, but for the basics it'll give you an idea of what to expect. I mean we can hype you up all day long, but it'll still come down to how you subjectively feel about it when its in your hands and visualize how it'll fit your needs.

Yeah, people can say its a piece of **** and for all you know it is an amazing phone. I got your point bro. And Mango looks amazing compared to the OS as it is now. (Not that it isn't amazing as it is lol)

+1, I picked up a Arrive for $220 without any contract. That's the best route IMO.
Yeah, Fall is right around the corner though. I mine as well save my POS until I see something that I truly want, not because it is my only option.
Sprint and Verizon got screwed (CDMA is always last), but this new round of WP7 devices should offer more to these carriers, if they were smart. There are 9-? handsets for ATT and T-Mobile (GSM), The only people left are CDMA.
I hope I'm not wrong. :X

HTC pushing out updates for bootloaders!

Its been a while since I have posted here, but as I did not see a thread dedicated to this yet other then the previous one in the dev section about HTC reviewing their policy. Here is what Htc Said Today.
HTC
Devs, we’re making lots of progress on unlocking bootloaders: Today we can confirm the HTC Sensation and HTC EVO 3D will be supported! See out note for more info:
Update on Bootloaders
Thanks so much for providing feedback, we hear your concerns. Your satisfaction is a top priority for us and we're working hard to ensure you have great experiences with our phones. We're reviewing the issue and our policy around bootloaders and will provide more information soon. Thank you for your interest, support and willingness to share your feedback. **UPDATE** We’ve listened. Check out the statement from our CEO, Peter Chou on HTC bootloaders. Click the link for more info. http://on.fb.me/iZXgkR **UPDATE 7/10** <!-- p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 48.0px; font: 15.0px Calibri} --> We wanted to provide an update on HTC’s progress with bringing bootloader unlocking to our newest phones. We know how excited some of you are for this capability, and we’ve put significant resources behind making this change as soon as possible. While we wish we could flip a simple switch and unlock all bootloaders across our device portfolio, this is actually a complex challenge that requires a new software build and extensive testing to deliver the best possible customer experience. We’re thrilled to announce today that software updates to support bootloader unlocking will begin rolling out in August for the global HTC Sensation, followed by the HTC Sensation 4G on T-Mobile USA and the HTC EVO 3D on Sprint. We’re in the testing phase for the unlocking capability now, and we expect it to be fully operational by early September for devices that have received the software updates. We'll continue rolling out the unlocking capability over time to other devices as part of maintenance releases and new shipments. HTC continues its commitment to unlocking bootloaders and supporting the developer community. Because of the importance of this community to us, please expect an update on this about every few weeks as we make progress toward launch. Thank you for your patience and continued support!

While this is very promising to us, keep in mind there are still other restrictions they are trying to use to crack down on the dev community.
Such as Providers working with google, reviewing which devices by imei will not take an update, and possibly deactivating service from there... I don't remember the link to the site that was talking about it, as I am on a new computer and it was book marked on my crashed one.
If any one has the link please feel free to share.
Where you been mudknot? You didn't get an infuse or something did you?
Definitely not I will never buy samsung unless its a tv or washer and dryer. My laptop crashed on me. So I had to buy a new one, which I got a somekin deal on, Thing has 6g ram, i5, 750g harddrive 17.3 inch screen, Ati graphics card with 1g dedicated ram, for 550 bucks.

Whew. I was worried there for a sec.
I really think I need to do a backup of my laptop. A little voice has been telling me the last few days, and now you say yours did, somethings definitely trying to drop me a hint.
That's a lot of laptop for the price, for sure. In fact, that's downright amazing considering my POS and how much I paid for it 3 years ago.

I hear ya. Luckily this phone has given me the patience to be able to wait for a holiday-type phone from ATT.
I didn't feel that way when I had the cappy. Two months with that phone and I was already begging ATT to come out with something better... The inspire will hold me over just fine.
The Holiday sounds like it is worth it, I am saving my money now so hopefully I have enough for it when it comes out(of-contract). Im predicting about $700.
(Dont hate Im too young still to work so I don't have a steady job)

Judging by past HTC phones I would say it will more likely be around 500-600

Well it was a display model with the retailers software installed, it was originally listed for like 1000. I talked them down a little bit. The only the thing wrong with it is the keyboard is a little raised in one section but it doesn't effect the typing. So I had to buy it, because HP will still warranty it.

Sir, that's a win.
Back on topic here. The article I read stated that even though HTC wll come up with a tool to unlock the bootloaders, it would require approval from the carriers to be released. What are the odds? This just seems like a big ploy to put the finger soley on the carriers.
