HTC pushing out updates for bootloaders! - HTC Inspire 4G

Its been a while since I have posted here, but as I did not see a thread dedicated to this yet other then the previous one in the dev section about HTC reviewing their policy. Here is what Htc Said Today.
HTC
Devs, we’re making lots of progress on unlocking bootloaders: Today we can confirm the HTC Sensation and HTC EVO 3D will be supported! See out note for more info:
Update on Bootloaders
Thanks so much for providing feedback, we hear your concerns. Your satisfaction is a top priority for us and we're working hard to ensure you have great experiences with our phones. We're reviewing the issue and our policy around bootloaders and will provide more information soon. Thank you for your interest, support and willingness to share your feedback. **UPDATE** We’ve listened. Check out the statement from our CEO, Peter Chou on HTC bootloaders. Click the link for more info. http://on.fb.me/iZXgkR **UPDATE 7/10** <!-- p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 48.0px; font: 15.0px Calibri} --> We wanted to provide an update on HTC’s progress with bringing bootloader unlocking to our newest phones. We know how excited some of you are for this capability, and we’ve put significant resources behind making this change as soon as possible. While we wish we could flip a simple switch and unlock all bootloaders across our device portfolio, this is actually a complex challenge that requires a new software build and extensive testing to deliver the best possible customer experience. We’re thrilled to announce today that software updates to support bootloader unlocking will begin rolling out in August for the global HTC Sensation, followed by the HTC Sensation 4G on T-Mobile USA and the HTC EVO 3D on Sprint. We’re in the testing phase for the unlocking capability now, and we expect it to be fully operational by early September for devices that have received the software updates. We'll continue rolling out the unlocking capability over time to other devices as part of maintenance releases and new shipments. HTC continues its commitment to unlocking bootloaders and supporting the developer community. Because of the importance of this community to us, please expect an update on this about every few weeks as we make progress toward launch. Thank you for your patience and continued support!

While this is very promising to us, keep in mind there are still other restrictions they are trying to use to crack down on the dev community.
Such as Providers working with google, reviewing which devices by imei will not take an update, and possibly deactivating service from there... I don't remember the link to the site that was talking about it, as I am on a new computer and it was book marked on my crashed one.
If any one has the link please feel free to share.

Where you been mudknot? You didn't get an infuse or something did you?

Definitely not I will never buy samsung unless its a tv or washer and dryer. My laptop crashed on me. So I had to buy a new one, which I got a somekin deal on, Thing has 6g ram, i5, 750g harddrive 17.3 inch screen, Ati graphics card with 1g dedicated ram, for 550 bucks.

Windows 7 and an XBOX 360?

Whew. I was worried there for a sec.
I really think I need to do a backup of my laptop. A little voice has been telling me the last few days, and now you say yours did, somethings definitely trying to drop me a hint.
That's a lot of laptop for the price, for sure. In fact, that's downright amazing considering my POS and how much I paid for it 3 years ago.

I hear ya. Luckily this phone has given me the patience to be able to wait for a holiday-type phone from ATT.
I didn't feel that way when I had the cappy. Two months with that phone and I was already begging ATT to come out with something better... The inspire will hold me over just fine.

The Holiday sounds like it is worth it, I am saving my money now so hopefully I have enough for it when it comes out(of-contract). Im predicting about $700.
(Dont hate Im too young still to work so I don't have a steady job)

Judging by past HTC phones I would say it will more likely be around 500-600

Well it was a display model with the retailers software installed, it was originally listed for like 1000. I talked them down a little bit. The only the thing wrong with it is the keyboard is a little raised in one section but it doesn't effect the typing. So I had to buy it, because HP will still warranty it.

Sir, that's a win.

Back on topic here. The article I read stated that even though HTC wll come up with a tool to unlock the bootloaders, it would require approval from the carriers to be released. What are the odds? This just seems like a big ploy to put the finger soley on the carriers.

G2X Against The World: Crack Flashers Will Appreciate.

The Sensation is not what you want. This device may fall under the category with the Droid X and the Atrix. There is barely any support for either device. I suggest you ride it out with the G2X because support and roms will come in a bundle sooner or later. The sensation is tempting but once you do your initial setup than what?

But seriously, I'm a gadget whore. If it's shiny I'm one of the first to own it. I can't use cooked ROMs because everyone I've used (and I've used some of the greats) leave me f-d trying to register on foreign networks. I agree with you up to a point about dev support for the Sensation. Keep in mind it's HTC's flagship phone and will be highly sought after worldwide (as will the SGS2). Based on its popularity, I'm guessing it'll get some dev love.

This is the feature that kept me on the g2x.
Also the extra ram and processer power that the sensation has is for sense ui to run smooth.
Cant wait until new kernels arrive that will make the tegra a crazy powerhouse. The phone has been out for about two weeks, give it some time for the devs to get a hold of it. The nexus s for the first 2 months had a really lame dev section.

Wouldn't the Thunderbolt be a better comparison to the Sensation rather than those Motorola phones since Motorola uses a different method of locking down their devices?

No because the only reason the THunderbolt was unlocked was because of a leaked old ROM that wasn't locked down. Total luck.
I just came from an atrix and there is one dev cooking roms. (He has two). While they were both awesome its not a whole lot...we have more development here in two weeks then they had in 3 months. The atrix has more ram which is its only advantage....I always had like 700 mb ram available.....so for me the extra ram didn't benefit me. I was tempted to get the nexus s due to it being pure google but the fact that its a samsung phone (had alot of problems with galaxy s) and with dual core phones coming out I figured I would skip it. The g2x is what the nexus s should have shipped with. Dual core tegra.

Motorola was a big name in Android because of the $100MM in marketing they and Verizon spent to put Android on the map with the "Droid does" campaign. Once HTC and Samsung got with the program Motorola's market share has been steadily declining. They're also primarily a North American player where Samsung and HTC are global. Both the SGS2 and Sensation will each individually sell more units than the entire Motorola Android product line. Spec wise the Atrix is a good comparison but sales and acceptance wise not so much. I at least give them credit for going back to the drawing board on the Bionic rather than launching what would have been an already dated phone.
Assuming all future Samsung and HTC phones are based off the internals of the SGS2 and Sensation, the impact of what you're saying is devs are going to stop working on Samsung and HTC phones. I find that hard to accept. Especially when the SGS2 and Sensation (and their derivatives) are expected to sell in the millions of units. Only time will tell.

LG ... secretly discontinuing the g2x?

So ... just went on lg website and was confused why the g2x is no longer listed in the smart phone tab. In fact the only place its listed is when you click "all phones". Its weird because all other phones pale in comparison even the " new" revolution ( single core snapdragon) is like a total step backwards. Any thoughts why? Me personally, I love my g2x and will probably keep it for the length of my tmo contract.
"If Satan lived in heaven he'd be me... "
It's still on the site though. That's a pretty wild assumption to make just because it's in a different category than you'd expect.
I highly doubt LG is secretly discontinuing their flagship phone a few months after launch.
I don't think they will discontinue their greatest phone.

business is business, release it, let it stay in the limelight for a while then move it other so something else can get attention. All about the $$$
That has been like that for a while now. When I first went to LG's site to look at the phone back in mid May it was hard for me to find it on their site. I'm not sure why it is not listed in the Smartphone category unless it is just an oversight by those who manage the website.
Perfectly said. With the giant like Samsung Galaxy S II around the corner, once the SGSII is released it will age the current phones dramatically.
LG has to keep up with the times...particularly in the design department. You hold up the G2X against the HTC Sensation and even the SGSII (although it is simple it is very elegant) it makes the G2X look like grandpa.

OC to 1.7 ghz.
Bigger screen.
I was thinking about grabbing a gs2 when it hits here. Depends on what the T-Mobile flavor ends up being (Hercules?) But only if its a significant difference between that and their international version.
Next phone I'm gonna end up getting is probably gonna have a quadcore. I think im future proofed enough.
@OP T-Mobile also took it off their website "Supply restraints." and there was also a leak from tmonews that it'd be going up in price to 300 on contract.

If anyone thinks LG won't drop support of their flagship phone, you should look at what they did with the Expo (Monaco) when it was released.
I checked their website. It flashes the G2X when you open their Smartphone screen, then disappears. If you go to All Phones - it is there.
Maybe they are trying to tell buyers it is not "smart" to buy one right now as a smart phone - lol.
Samsung sucks and you're a fool if you give them business...galaxy s was a joke and sammy will find a way to screw up the sgs2 and rip off their customers.

By Tmo rep you mean a CSR that you got on the phone?
They don't know **** from brownies.
Well it doesn't look good for the g2x. This is kind of an update to my original post. My woman's phone finally went suck-mode. It will now, not stop re-booting itself or do the screen freeze. At least 8 or more times a day. So I call tmo, which in itself was disappointing trying to charge me 20$ restocking fee or whatever they labeled it. Not to mention the Rep tried to play dumb saying tmo was unaware of the 'big 3 " issues. She later admited they did know, they just weeny ready to make it official. Anyways long story short I finally get the fee wave and she's about to tell how long the back order iswhen she says " oh... looks like its been pulled.
Me: the g2x?
Tmo Rep: yes. But don't worry you'll still get yours.
How can a company be allowed to
A. Either deliberately tell there employyees to decieve the customers on information such as known problems or issues or
B. Have such an incompatant workforce where each employee makes up their own answers.
I'm gonna go down with the ship I guess. I'm never gonna trade myg2x in. Untilled it starts messing up which I hope is never.
BTW the womans phone is pure unmolested stock no root.

They won my heart back after there recent move which showed just how much they want to be involved in Android development. I think right now Samsung has the best display technology out there and in my opinion they make the best looking LED's and LCD's. They also managed to squeeze more power out of a dual core mobile CPU than anyone else has and if you remember, they also managed to squeeze more power out of a single core mobile CPU (Hummingbird) than anyone else. They have there problems just like everyone else. I haven't seen a perfect phone yet from any manufacturer. I don't know about everyone else but I have no problem supporting a company that is going to give a SGSII to the Cyanogen team so they can start developing for it. It would be stupid on my part to write off the company who sells more mobile phones per year than anyone else.

Who would of thought that Samsung would have gone from goat to hero so quickly. It wasn't too long ago that people wanted their heads for froyogate. However atm, they are the most dev friendly company out there. I would have no problem supporting them in the future. That being said, one of my colleagues owns a SGS2 (on the AT&T network) and while on paper it's a beast, in reality I really couldn't discern a real difference between the sgs2 and g2x.

Is the Sensation Worth Getting?

I have the HD2 right now. Is the Sensation worth the upgrade? There is obviously not the HUGE dev community behind the Sensation in comparison to the HD2...
Easily worth the upgrade due to the much, much newer architecture. Even locked it has *AWESOME* written all over it.
There's no development on Sensation right now, as the means to unlock it has yet to be released.
This is (along with the Evo3D) HTC's new flagship, so it's bound to have proper development in time.

I would suggest you go for the Samsung galaxy s2 unless you are a die hard htc fan
I had a hero and HD7 and thought I d jump ship and see how samsung phones work
Quiet happy , won't say its all goody but you can easily update to new firmware without the need to root via a software called ODIN
Already on 2.3.4 and never been happy..
Also I think the camera is slightly better than sensation
Just my thoughts
If possible go in a store and play with them both, you may get a bit of any idea of which one you fall in love with

Im not sure about the GSII but everyone knows about the Hercules. It might have a 4,5 inch display and a different chipset but nobody is really sure yet. Its actually rumored to have the Adreno 220 which will probably be a lot faster than it is on the Sensation due to the ****ty HTC drivers and not having a UI with useless eye candy.

Maybe so, but it all depends on how u use the phone. If all the apps and games are still running good, why upgrade. That would be my thought. It's all personal.
But if you want to upgrade, because you want to download stuff a second faster or load apps/games a second faster, or whatever reason, this phone will be a nice upgrade.

Yeah, I mean the HD2 supports 7 meg HSDPA, but I usually get about 2...The thing that attracts me, is the better camera, and dual core CPU.
I was using an Android flashed HD2 up until I dropped it last week and shattered the screen. I had ordered a new digitizer from fleabay but when it arrived it was damaged so I got impatient and ordered a new Sensation instead. I just got it today and, even though I was more than happy with the HD2 and had no plans to upgrade, I have to say I'm very glad I did. The HD2 was is a very awesome phone but after using the Sensation it now feels like it was v rough around the edges. The Sensation is silky smooth - and that's while we're still running on stock!!
I say upgrade. You'll not regret it.

Thanks for the input. And with TMobile planning to upgrade nationwide network speeds, maybe it's not a bad idea. Part of me still wants to wait to see if I can get the Galaxy S II...
Decisions decisions....
I've gone from HD2 > Sensation. Got the HD2 as soon as it came out.
The Sensation is fantastic...a huge leap from the HD2...obviously much faster/slicker...much nice to look at and hold, screen is so much better than the HD2 it's not funny.
Development will come soon

Want to upgrade but willing to wait

So they convinced me to get out of flexpay and reset my upgrade a year earlier than it was supposed to be. Looking at the sgs2 but not liking its Samsung. What do you guys think or what have you heard? Are there any HTC phones that are a drastic improvement from the mt4g coming out?

Not that I've heard. I'm waiting until until T-Mobile gets something with a S4 (4th gen Snapdragon) and over 1 GB of RAM. I got the MT4G right after launch and it was worth it then because it was the first phone in the U.S. with a S2 and 768MB of RAM. I'd milk the MT4G a few more months...it's still a fast phone with more than adequate performance.

I say wait as long as you can.. the sgs2 is a nice phone but I read the sgs3 is coming out, the specs are great. As for HTC the edge seem to be a new phone with great promise as well. As for the Mt4g it's still a great phone for atleast the next 2yrs.

If I was replacing my MT4G, I'd probably aim for an Amaze 4G or try to stick it out until the next generation of phones hit.

I agree to stick with your MT4G and wait a while...the HTC Edge does look like an awesome device
HTC Sensation, Sensation XL, or Amaze 4G in my opinion.
Just wait. At the rate phones come out, roms come out as well. Xda has your back! Unless it breaks, hold off on the upgrade.

Depending on what carrier(s) it's available for, the Asus Padfone is looking pretty sweet
I would wait a bit, especially with the tegra 3 chip in the horizon
Every time I want a new phone, I flash a new ROM. Best way to get your current phone to act like a new phone. Left MIUI for Febs ICS beta recently. It's so amazing It will save you a lot of money comparatively too.
I have an HTC HD2 (T-Mobile version unlocked, on AT&T) and I am looking at getting a T-Mobile plan. My HD2 had Android 2.3.7 (AmeriCan Android). It runs the SD card, so I can still use WM6.5.
So, when I go to T-Mobile, the free phones they have (at Costco) lists the MT4G, which looks like the best free one.
But, when I compare what Costco / T-Mobile and PhoneScoop.com say are the specs, they don't match.
I'm wondering if going from the HD2 with Android to the MT4G is worth it. I know I can keep the HD2 and if I don't like the TM4G as much I can switch back (or even back and forth), but I was wondering what MT4G users think of their phones.
Also, does anyone change to a newer version of Android before the warranty runs out?
I love my mt4g. no the specs should all be the same. I get over a day running cm7 overclocked to 1.5ghz with normal use. Was going to use the phone as a present to control a Logitech harmony base but. Have decided to wait till HTC makes there next big one not really liking sgs2 after using one.

Oh dear god PLEASE DON'T BUY THE "LG MYTOUCH 4G"....it's not the real mt4g and you wont get any rom support
Oh yeah I forgot about that phone yeah stay away from LG at all costs!

Honestly wait... I had the mt4g from launch up to about 2 weeks ago... tmo offered me a sensation as a warranty replacement.. don't get me wrong, it's a nice device, but the mt4g dev section makes me miss my old phone. Unless it's free (aka me getting the sensation didn't effect my bill, upgrade date or contract..) , I'd stick with the mt4g.

I will watch out for the LG version to avoid it, but I was looking at T-Mobile from Costco. They have the T-Mobile® myTouch™ 4G Black, and in the pictured you can see "HTC" on the back.
The reason I was looking at this was it is $0.01 from Costco, and it seems to be pretty good compared to my HTC HD2, and I'm running Android, like the mt4g, so I thought that would be a good step.
Thanks!

The development of this ROM is amazing. I got lucky and didn't realize that before I bought the phone, but the MT4G is a fantastic phone for $0.01 on contract.
Either way though, I may suggest a dualcore if it ever goes on a sale. Quite sure there was a time when the SGS2 was like $0.01 during Christmas for T-mobile. Try and look for deals like that.

The SGS2 deal was something like $200 down, with $200 mail in rebate, and $20 per month for 20 months! Not quite the deal I was looking for.
Not sure if I should wait for a better deal toward the end of the month, or take the plunge now!
Anyone know if any T-Mobile deals are coming soon?
You are only going to get a great deal on T-mobile if you aren't a current customer (just my opinion). Otherwise, wait until you are eligible for phone upgrades.

[Q] Is it worth it? [SOLVED]

Okay guys,
I'm a hobbyist developer, I often pseudo-kang my own roms by basically cherry picking features from various roms and slap them all together into one big frankenrom for whatever device I'm using.
I've decided that next phone I get, I'm just going to develop a real rom myself. The problem is, I can't decide what my next phone will be! I have two options, and only two as I have VERY limited funds and will be renewing my contract:
AT&T HTC One X
LG Optimus G
Both are less than a dollar. The one X has lesser specs, but I'm familiar with HTC devices and their quirks (been cooking up roms since my old wizard and Kaiser days) but the optimus g is from a manufacturer I'm totally unfamiliar with when it comes to developing yet has some amazing specs for a whopping PENNY at Wal-Mart.
How active do you guys (honestly) see the developing community surrounding the One X lasting? Is it worth it to jump into a device that is already end of life? Should I just hang on until I have an extra $99 and get the HTC One?
I'm coming here and asking you guys this because you're the ones that can tell me how much longer you HONESTLY see yourselves using this device. I'm using the htc holiday now, and that really bit me in the arse, dying out in less than a year, AND being a nightmare to develop for. If it happens again with the One X, I'm swearing of HTC forever.

Me, personally, I'd wait and pay the $99 for the M7. I'm not saying this is a bad phone by any stretch of the imagination, it's a freakin awesome phone, I absolutely love my Evita.
But, considering the speed at which tech becomes outdated, and how long you want to keep a device for, it just seems to make more sense to hold out for the M7.

I agree. The latest tech for quad core phones is extremely promising, like the one and the gs4. Seems like their getting great battery/performance ratio. I'd wait it out a bit.

Thanks a lot guys. That really helped me make my decision, along with seeing the crazy TWENTY HOURS of talk time a friend managed on a stock HTC One. My Holiday gets MAYBE 5 hours of screen on time, and that's with LTE turned off, intellidemand governor, and max clock set to 1024MHz. That was another big bite on the arse with getting one of the first LTE phones on AT&T

Oooh. Those sneaky bastards. It's only $50 if you're starting *new* service. Upgrades are $99.
Aw shucks, what a letdown.
What would you lose if you were to start a new contract? I know up here in Canada, it's government law to have carriers able to port your number from one service to another, even if it's to the same carrier after a cancellation of their service. Other than the phone number, I don't know what else you'd lose besides loyalty. Would it be worth it to look into?
Starting fresh is just an idea to explore, it might help, probably not.
Edit: The reason I say start new (if at all possible) is because I believe the HTC Holiday is >2 years old, rendering your contract nearly terminated and up for renewal. Just to clarify.
