Hello All,
Have an HTC Touch Pro -CDMA- that i recently installed XDAndroid 2.2.1 -04 on. I have searched here but not really found a good resolve for my question,FYI. How do I go about disabling the cell radio of the phone to conserve battery life?
I am ONLY using the phone for wifi- web browsing,Google Maps for navigating while motorcycling, and email.
Thanks,
Barry

if youre rooted, and you have root explorer try renaming phone.apk and telephony.apk to phone.apk.bak and telephony.apk.bak, then reboot
see if that works
if not, just rename em back to normal, if it does work, when you want to turn radio back on, just rename em back to normal and reboot
Airplane Mode.
sitlet, if brcisna uses Airplane Mode, then WiFi cannot be used either.
One possible option is to install another country's baseband software so that it simply cannot connect to any networks. Make sure the baseband software works with your phone (I use GSM, not CDMA, so not 100% sure if this works) and flash via OpenRecovery.
While this doesn't turn off the radio completely, you will still save battery as it won't find any networks in your area.
If I am wrong about this, anybody may feel free to correct me as I'm not completely up on how CDMA phones work with respect to the cell radio

thats actually pretty clever
its kinda amazing that there's not a "radio on/radio off" option on any of the roms out there
if a phone has a sim card, of course, you could always just pull that out, wifi still works without a sim card as long as build.prop doesnt demand a sim card be inserted
If you enable airplane mode first, then turn your wifi back on your good to go.

nice! never thought of that
Nice I am doing this with my Droid incredible. On stock/sense ROM I could not turn wifi/bluetooth back on while in airplane mode but good old Cyanogenmod lets me!
After some hunting, I have finally found a pretty easy way to do what I wanted. I wanted to use WiFi and bluetooth with the cell radio off and airplane mode would not allow bluetooth to work.
Answer: *#*#4636#*#* -> Phone Information -> Turn Off Radio
Now if only someone could add a toggle in the standard drop down to one touch this...

Is it possible?
I'm in Europe so 3G isn't work...
I am curious what you are trying to accomplish by doing this? You can disable mobile data completely.
For example : like 3g part isn't fonctionnal, i'm in fly mode. And with this mode, wifi is desactivated automatically when you turn off the tab.
I think (hope) that in wifi firmware you don't have to turn on wifi in parameters each time you turn on the xoom
Why don't you just turn off airplane mode? You can disable 3g separately. The point of airplane mode is to disable all radios
To the OP: the benefit to Airplane Mode vs. turning off mobile data is A/M also turns off the cellular (3G) radio and saves battery.
But as this is an inconvenience you only have to deal with during infrequent reboots, I'd just deal with having to turn on WiFi each time.
Maybe more languages to in wifi only firmware (not confirmed yet)
You can just turn on Airplane mode then turn on just the Wifi thats what I do when I don't want to use my 3G service
How about actually answering the question?
Is it possible to flash the 3g version with the wifi only firmware?
Sure, it's dumb, and you can point that out, but how about actually answering the question?
With out actually trying it (I have flashed my Xoom about 30 times today and am just too tired to do it again. ) I would venture to say you can not. There are differences in that was causing some hair pulling. But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong...
Moved to the correct section.
Other interest : there's more languages in wifi only firmware...
Already confirmed, there is only one language (French) in addition to English and Spanish
Flash Wifi only Xoom with 3g firmware
I've noticed that the 3g limitation on wi-fi only Xoom (mine) is a software limitation, since it has the SIM card slot. Has anybody done this to try to enable 3g on wi-fi only Xoom?
Thanks a lot

According to this thread, it can't be done 'cause there's parts missing on the WiFi-only devices (likely to save money).
I have flashed and use dailly my verizon MZ601 3G XOOM, with WIFI only 3.2 version without any problems! I am also in europe and CDMA is useless here..
I have also tried various versions of fastboot images, and they all went successfull, so I dont think there is any more risk involved when cross-flashing.

I have a droid that I am about to put in a drawer. Its fully functional. Is it possible to modify this droid so that it only uses wifi? I'd like it modified so that my young son cannot make phone calls using minutes and verizon can't track, but he can still get to the market using my wifi at to play games. Is something like this possible? A possible Droid version of Ipod touch??

If the phone isn't active on any line, then yes. If he tries to dial out he'll just get an error message.
You can put it in airplane mode as well.

WIFI works in Airplans on "some" phones, worked on my MT4G, MT3GS, and on newer phones. I'm not sure if that's a function of the OS version, or the phone type. It may be a feature implemented later on.
I tried to access my wifi from this OG droid in airplane mode and it doesn't work. Perhaps there are developers here who could think of a way to do this?
Try this.
As far as I know, you can enable wifi while on Airplane Mode, no matter the device you hold.
I am aware that when you turn on airplane mode with WiFi on, it turns it off.
But you should be able to turn it on after engaging airplane mode.
Also mentioned before, as long as the phone is deactivated
The only phone calls that could be successful are 911 and customer care;
Used to talk to a rep. in order to re-activate your device.
I use two devices (Samsung Vibrant, Moto Droid X) that are not in service with airplane mode on;
It will save battery by turning off the CDMA Radio completely, otherwise the radios will constantly be communicating with the tower.
Keep in mind, this does not matter if the phone is in service or not, If its ON,
its trading packets with the tower.
Thanks!

You could also delete Phone.apk lmao. I can't believe I didn't think of that.
I would also say to just have the phone deactivated.
Just make sure he doesn't dial 911

How do I disable the cmda radio?
Just delete/freeze the phone and messaging apps with Titanium Backup! Or uninstall them.
To confirm what everyone has posted...
1) Deactivate phone with Verizon.
2) In Titanium Backup, Freeze the messaging and phone app.
3) Turn phone into Airplane Mode.
4) Turn on Wifi.
Did I get it all? Thanks everyone for the help.
My m8 at some times usually during the night will disconnect my wifi and use my mobile data, which it should not do because in the power settings I have the sleep mode set to off and I have all power saver crap removed with viperone 1.8 I"am just on a limited data plan that I need all of my data for and wasting my mobile data sucks especially when I have wifi to use and pay for home internet that it should be using. Does anyone know why it could be doing this and a fix ? My computer never disconnects from the wifi and I use it many of the same times that the phone disconnects from my wifi, so that leads me to believe its somewhere in the phone and not my wifi. Also I have had a couple other m8's do the exact same thing. I would like to find a fix other than turning my mobile data off. And I do use a lot of data as I have a large number of email addresses added to my phone and have my k9 set to check for new emails every 10 minutes because I rely on it for personal and business use. Anyone have any idea ?
Here is my settings showing sleep mode off and power saving mode off also.
In "wifi advanced settings" do you have the "auto switch to mobile data when wifi is weak" checked off?

No its unchecked but under wifi optimization I have minimize battery usage when wifi is on ? Not sure if that could have an effect but shouldnt because mobile data would use more battery than wifi and that would have the opposite effect to turn wifi off for mobile data which would use more battery power.

I always set it up to remove the power save mode garbage in the venom aroma installer so 100% that is not the issue.

Try Wi-Fi > Advanced > Uncheck "Wi-Fi optimization"
Had the same problem and this fixed it. Haven't noticed any difference in battery life checked vs. unchecked.

Mine is still doing it, so I changed the wifi frequency band from automatic to 5 ghz and rebooted and it connected but some apps could not access data so I changed it to 2.4 ghz only and rebooted it worked ok but its doing it again this time I had to toggle airplane mode to get the wifi back on. I have to toggle airplane mode quite often actually and usually it shows change of sim detected. And some times my mobile data will disconnect and its a ***** to get working again. Maybe I will try going to a verizon corporate store and getting a new nano sim card for it. A verizon dealer could not get a new nano sim to activate before and they ended up getting my old nano sim reactivated which I thought once a sim has been deactivated that they cant reactivate it but apparently they can. I really dont know what else to try other than a new sim card. Anyone ?
Any chance you could temporarily try a different wireless router? Some of these new phones are finicky with some wireless routers... Could be a miscommunication between the phone and router somehow.
Don't really have an explanation, one of my old HTC devices had issues connecting to a specific wireless router, where apple products did not have the problem, and vice versa with a different router.

Having been the case with at least 3 m8's I honestly do not think its the router because It happened with my old moden and router and also with my motorola surfboard SBG6580 modem / wireless router combination that I switched to a couple months ago. And it will also do the same on my girlfriends modem and wireless router. I think there is something in the m8 that is the problem and one other of the m8's was an at&t version. I"am not 100% sure but it may have all been while using viperone, as there really is not much choices for daily driver custom roms especially since elegancia closed its doors. Dont get me wrong tranquil one m8 is not bad and cleanrom is ok but they are no way as easy to customize as viperone is. Years ago I use to like cleanrom for its DE which was barebones the way I like it, good clean and fast. I just dont trust any of the other roms to be bug free enough to be a daily driver. I have just had too many issues in the past with cm dont get me started on them lol, omg was nothing but fix after fix that you had to do nothing like being a Guinea pig lol.
Wi-Fi not connect after phone is woken from sleep mode
Both my wife and I was having the issue with Wi-Fi. I tried everything ,turning off optimization, setting for 2.4ghz,and every other thing listed. Nothing helped until I flashed the firmware from the digitalhigh thread, took 30 sec and fixed Wi-Fi for good on my wife's m8 and mine. I lost nothing in the process except that very annoying Wi-Fi issue. I was then able to set any options like, Wi-Fi optimization and Auto band detect, everything working great!
Here is link to that firmware...

You would need to tell us the exact make and model of your phone for anyone to help you out.
I know with Apple products you can turn on aeroplane mode and still use WiFi. Maybe your phone just doesn't allow this and takes the meaning of 'aeroplane mode' very seriously.
Quick google search and you will find tips for saving battery. Maybe you are actually using it too much. Try only using it when you really need to and you will notice that the battery will actually last you a whole day, maybe more.

Phone is Doogee DG310 Voyager 2,I saw some people can turn wifi back on their 4.4 and some can't.I have rooted it very easy and is there some app that allows me to have wifi on with aeroplane mode?
have the same problem
I have the same problem with the same version kitkat 4.4.2 stock on DG310
I used to use wifi on my s3 with version4.3 stock with no problem.
Can someone kindly look into this?
See http://muzso.hu/2013/04/07/changing...e-mode-radios-via-commandline-on-rooted-phone
The airplane mode toggleable radio entry in the settings.db file.
If you have root explore with the sql editor, it's easier.
Tried the method, wifi still not working
make it work by this way.
In addition to the link above , I also need to do this to make it work.
WHERE name='airplane_mode_radios' , take "wifi" out from the value string
the downside is when you toggle fight mode the wifi will keep on , not shut down. If you want to shut it off, you need to do it manually, which is no big deal for me.
Did you reboot between changes?
After the first link above, I did the reboot. For the additional update I did, I didn't reboot if I didn't remember wrong.Anyway I did reboot after, it stays that way.
This is what I told support, but they wouldn't help me:
I have the GSM and 3G frequencies, but still it disconnects for a 15 seconds to 3 minutes a few times a day.. It disconnects from all phone services, even though I have great reception/signal. Why? How can I fix it? I saw this 'preffered type' of network or something in these advanced testing settings where you could change between alot of different network types like WCDMA, TD-SCDMA, LTE and so on, is there something I have to change there? If it helps I live in Norway.
""
So this has been going on for a long time, now I got a suggestion that it might help to flash new radio software (.zip?). I know about adb, fastboot and flashing using recovery, but I don't know what radio to flash, if tharæt's the problem. The phone can also use 15-30seconds to turn on WiFi, from what I know this might also be related to the radio software.
If you want pictures or more details, just ask
Thanks in advance!

It happens several times a day, with or without a connection to WiFi (but I don't know when it will happen, so WiFi isn't off normally).
If possible try to switch off the wifi and test it.
