[Q] Can't turn on WI-FI if Airplane mode is on(4.4.2) - General Questions and Answers

Greetings,I have a problem with my phone that came from factory on 4.4.2.It is very fluid and everything works fine, but I noticed that if I have airplane mode on so I save battery,I can't turn on wifi and if wifi is already on and I turn on airplane mode,it will shut down.Do you know the solution since that is very importiant to me,I lost arround 25% of battery since airplane mode was turned off while I was on wifi.

You would need to tell us the exact make and model of your phone for anyone to help you out.
I know with Apple products you can turn on aeroplane mode and still use WiFi. Maybe your phone just doesn't allow this and takes the meaning of 'aeroplane mode' very seriously.
Quick google search and you will find tips for saving battery. Maybe you are actually using it too much. Try only using it when you really need to and you will notice that the battery will actually last you a whole day, maybe more.

Phone is Doogee DG310 Voyager 2,I saw some people can turn wifi back on their 4.4 and some can't.I have rooted it very easy and is there some app that allows me to have wifi on with aeroplane mode?

have the same problem
I have the same problem with the same version kitkat 4.4.2 stock on DG310
I used to use wifi on my s3 with version4.3 stock with no problem.
Can someone kindly look into this?

See http://muzso.hu/2013/04/07/changing...e-mode-radios-via-commandline-on-rooted-phone
The airplane mode toggleable radio entry in the settings.db file.
If you have root explore with the sql editor, it's easier.

Tried the method, wifi still not working

make it work by this way.
In addition to the link above , I also need to do this to make it work.
WHERE name='airplane_mode_radios' , take "wifi" out from the value string
the downside is when you toggle fight mode the wifi will keep on , not shut down. If you want to shut it off, you need to do it manually, which is no big deal for me.

Did you reboot between changes?

After the first link above, I did the reboot. For the additional update I did, I didn't reboot if I didn't remember wrong.Anyway I did reboot after, it stays that way.

I will encounter this problem for three time no matter which rom or which version of android i am using.because i have encounter this problem in many roms
Sent from my LG-P920 using XDA
it's a common issue, not sure if just with GB, the problem with this is that your battery drains too fast when this happens
just check if the phone warms up if so u have an issue then just restart
lg has not told anything about this issue, they thinkg it's an specific issue from one carrier's fw but it looks like it's in general with GB, my old x10 had the same issue but no battery drain
But i have this issue when i using froyo. Now i am using froyo but have this issue two times a days. Its very annoying to me yo know

There isn't any real solution. It happens to me as well as to other people (search the O3D threads here and you'll find many reporting the same), no matter if you have Froyo or GB.
However, in my case it doesn't happen two times a day but less often. It never occurs when I wake up my phone and wifi reconnects. It only happens when I turn on/off the airplane mode (but not all the times).
Do you have this issue when the phone is waking up normally (with the wifi always on) or when you turn on/off the airplane mode or turn off/on the wifi manually?

if only occur in turning on/off the airplane, it will be fine for me as i seldom use the airplane mode. however, the issue occur when i turn on or off the wifi manually. i have tried to turn off and on the wifi repeated ten times when the phone restart, i have no problem. however, after i close the wifi for about 1 or 2 hour and enable again, it sometime have the problem when i switch on the wifi. i really have no ideas why this problem will occur.
Well when you turn the wifi on/off manually, I guess that it's the same thing (for the wifi connectivity) like turning on/off the airplane mode manually, so it causes the same problem.
Do you have this issue when you just wake up your phone (with wifi on)? If so, you could keep your wifi always on when you outside from home/work. If it's not connected it doesn't consume much battery.

when the wifi problem happens, i must reboot the phone manually, then the wifi will switch on automatically after the phone has rebooted. however, i discover that, wifi drain battery very much when compare to just open 2G network alone, therefore, i would like to close wifi when i just put it to standby. i think this is not a real solution and i have this problem two time a day. it is very annoying actually.
thank you for your reply!!!
I posted this already in thread i started labeled not too clearly http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1519436
It's a process called tiwlan_wq which starts using cpu @ 48% constantly and drains battery quickly.
No idea how to solve this i've kept the wifi at standard setting of off when phone is in standby or even on always but this occurs randomly.
I thought new v20g rom would have sorted out some issues but no and i'm dead bent on selling this POS LG phone.

[Q] Connection Problems

For the past couple weeks I have been having major connection problems with 3G & WiFi. It would just stop working, even though the bars would be there and show that it is working, but nothing would load. Normally have to turn off Wifi or data for a couple minutes and then turn it back on, or reboot, but even then it does not last that long.
I found on these forums and other places that people seem to have been having the same issue and was caused by the recent update from SuperSU and something it was giving permissions to called mksh. So I denied it permissions, continued to have problem, I went back to the older version, still the saem, I removed the program, and started using just normal Superuser, and the problem still continues.
I was for sure this was the problem, but the program is gone now. I know it can't really be the mksh by itself because it's part of the android OS. For awhile I thought it might have been my SIM card but quickly realised that well WiFi is a problem as well, not just 3G data.
Any one have ideas about this? It's getting really annoying and almost not usable.
BUMP, anyone, this is getting quite annoying. I have searched and done everything possible.
Still needing help.
I don't like bumping this all the time.
I have done all the searching I can, no one has similar problems, no one has any ideas?
Still looking for some answers.
I guess I am the only one.

What do you mean by toggle Airplane mode, when having the problem, turn it on, then turn it off, to see if service works again?
Yes that works, that is what I do most of the time, actually most of the time I have airplane mode on, and then have only wifi enabled.
Either way, how does troubles with WiFi as well as 3G connections mean a problem with my service provider? They don't provide WiFi
Anyone..

[Q] [Help] Wifi drains battery even though turned off (Lollipop)

Hi everyone,
I am new here, and would like some help with my Nexus 5.
It is running stock rom and everything, Android 5.0.1 LRX22C
I am still setting up, so still using my old phone while I get all the mandatory apps on before i switch my SIM over.
I realised that battery seems to be draining rather quickly even it spends most of its time on just Wifi right beside the router. Cellular connection is not on. So one day I decided to turn it to airplane mode and see what happens.
As you can see from the attachment, WiFi was on all the time even though the phone was on airplane mode. I believe this is the cause of the battery drain. I did not turn WiFi on.
"Scanning always available" was turned off, and the top battery drainer is "Android system", but at only 1%.
(The screenshot was only taken after I reconnected Wifi and downloaded GSam, that explains the notifications.)
Does anyone know the cause of this? I'd prefer if I do not need to factory reset the phone as I am pretty much done setting up everything and I don't want to have to do it all again.
Any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks!
If you go to 'Advanced' there should be an option called 'Keep WIFI on during sleep', click there and then click 'Never' or 'Only when plugged in'. Good luck.
I too had the same problem when i updated to lollipop but after some days of usage i found that in wifi under advance there was a new option scanning always available which was turn on. What this setting do is even if ur wifi is off the app can scan for wifi signals for the location. So if u want to keep ur wifi off just turn off that setting.
I already had it turned off, but the battery settings still reports WiFi as on. Weird thing is GSam says my WiFi is off, so I'm not sure what is the problem now.
It might be the Android System, reporting it uses even more battery than my screen now.

[Q] Wi-Fi in Airplane mode

Hello people,
I have 6045K model of Alcatel Idol 3 and when i am in airplane mode there is no way to switch on the wi-fi.
Is that a restriction of Lollipop 5.0.2 or some kind of hardware nuisance?

That shouldn't be the case. Switching to airplane mode will turn off WiFi - that is normal behavior. But you should be able to turn WiFi back on, and the phone will still stay in airplane mode.
I verified that i could go to Airplane mode and then can go to wifi without any issue.
Аctually the name is "Aeroplane mode" not "Airplane mode". Why is that?

I have a 6045Y and I've never been able to do that, whether before or after the latest maintenance update. Whenever I enter airplane mode, the Wi-fi turns off and the system refuses to turn it back on. Is there anything I'm missing?

I'd say the 6045Y has a major issue then....I've used the airplane mode on, wifi on option on my 6045I on multiple occasions. You might try turning wifi off first...then airplane mode...then turn wifi back on to see if wifi is getting "hung" somehow.

I'm afraid you're probably right - just tried that with no positive results. Will have to wait for device root to modify its radio behavior (already met that situation with a Huawei piece of $#1T).
Anyone else has the same problem, whether with a 6045Y or with another version (6045i, B, K or whatever)?
No problem here turning wifi on once in airplane mode. Model is 6045I.
6045K here and unable to turn on WiFi when in airplane mode. When trying to toggle within Settings there is message in aeroplane mode.
This is odd - why would the 6045I be the only version allowed to have Wifi while in airplane mide ?

The only thing I can think of is they messed up their builds for overseas as the 6045i seems to be US only....I made a comment in one thread asking if I was the only one that thought the 6045I should be the International version. I'd certainly be using the contact us form on the website to let them know about the issue.
Just please..if you contact them be polite and not demanding as if they get annoyed they can postpone posting the source for an indefinite amount of time and unless you are ready to literally take them to court threats about the GPL etc are just going to tick them off. This isn't targeted at anyone specifically...just a general suggestion.

No problem, I just had a good laugh.
Hi,
Same problem for my Alcatel One Touch Idol 3 5.5" (6045Y) is there a solution to solve it on with rom stock
Thanks for help.
i talked with czech alcatel support and they tell me something about google policy or what. I am on i806 and there it works well, so it will be definitely just a turned off switch in apk overlay. But to switch it on again you have to root the phone and recompile a corresponding apk file.
EDIT:
so i browsed trough the overlay apks and found an entry in decompiled SettingsProvider-overlay.apk.
The entry is in res/values/strings.xml and its called "<string name="def_settingsprovider_airplaneModeToggleableRadios">wifi,bluetooth,nfc</string>" so i can enable bluetooth, nfc and wifi in airplane mode.
Thanks for help DallasCZ.
Does it mean that I can do something on a rom stock device ?

Wi-Fi/LTE doesn't start working until phone is on for some time

Hello everyone,
I have had my E6653 since mid October, and it was working well, however once I flashed a Taiwanese 32.0.A.6.152 firmware I have this bug. Let me describe what actually happens:
1. All stamina modes turned on (clock, extended standby, extended usage)
2. Start using the phone after it sat idle for some time, sometimes even 10 minutes is enough
3. Whatever app you were in, if it requires internet connection, it won't work. Switch apps, try to use internet connection and it still won't work.
4. Wait for somewhere around 15 seconds, and internet connection kicks in.
It happens when I'm both on LTE and Wi-Fi. I have already tried repairing my phone, and flashed 3 different firmwares (CE, Taiwan, UK), but nothing helps. I have seen someone on reddit with a similar problem, but for them it only occurred when they were connected to Wi-Fi.
Has anybody else experienced this? If yes, were you able to fix it?
Thanks for your time!
I was able to fix it by waiting 15 seconds.
Seriously, turning back on the radios and acquiring an IP address isn't instant. Just be happy you have a phone with Stamina mode available if you want it.

I don't think you understood what the problem is. I have LTE and Wi-Fi turned on all the time, never turn either off. Stop using a phone for 10 minutes, turn the screen back on, unlock it, try to use internet connection and then it fails. It hasn't happened on the previous version of the firmware when I had all stamina modes turned on, and it certainly isn't normal. It's a bug, and I was asking if anyone knows the fix. Waiting 15 seconds is not one, unfortunately.
Well one of us isn't getting the issue for sure and I don't think it's me. However, I've been wrong before
You said:
"1. All stamina modes turned on (clock, extended standby, extended usage)"
but also:
"I have LTE and Wi-Fi turned on all the time, never turn either off."
Stamina mode says about Extended standby: "Saves power when the screen is off by temporarily disabling Wi-Fi and mobile data".
These two statements are in disagreement.
So you put the phone down for a few minutes (presumably the screen goes off too), then Stamina mode kicks in and turns off Wi-Fi and mobile data. You wake up the phone after 10 minutes or so => you need to wait for radios to fire up and acquire IP address.
I'm not seeing anything wrong or unexpected with this behaviour...
I've noticed this more aggressive stamina mode myself. In all honesty I can't see a problem with it, it's putting the phone into deep sleep a lot faster (10 seconds or so in most cases) than it was on the firmware before. If it is happening across many different firmwares it is safe to assume that's how it is meant to be functioning. If, in the next firmware, it goes back to how it was it was a bug.
This behavior is different to earlier Xperias so it surprised me as well. In addition the phone shows you still connected to the network which makes it more difficult to determine.
