so today was a good day. for one i was blessed to wake up this morning and to top it of i held a ATT FUZE in my hand. it was the best 10 plus minutes in my life while i was wearing clothes lol. yes people i was at the store today in Milford, CT. the sales associate there had a test model. and i must say it is everything you would have guessed it would be. first off both the stores i went to in the Milford, CT area said the phone will be available the first week in november. so the oct. 23 date is a farse. the guy at the store named weel call "joe the plumber" (cause he is so famous these days) said he had his training on this past tuesday. and most likely the phone will be in his words. "the same price as the tilt when it came out or price competativaly with the iphone. with the rebate if u get the data upgrade." im probally not going to say any thing about the phone you dont know but it reafems the fact that it is real and is as good as advertized. and in the Milford store i was told i was the only person to ask about the phone so i should be the only one with it for a while. im the 1st person in the list for the saleperson. i cant wait for that call in november.
the phone= it self has the diamond back like the unlocked version. i dont know i asked why cause sprints diamond has a soft touch back and he said "the test group didnt like that feture." but i said if ur typing on the table the phone will wiggle cause of the uneven back. i think att was lazy and told htc to change the keyboard and ship the phone out. lol. and the phone is so light. the tilt is a brick compared to this phone. i currently hava lg cu500 and it is bout .25" taller and not much thicker. and that is good cause you get a ful keybaord.
the keyboard= lost the upper top row of just numbers. but it has a lot of quick bottons for text and internet and such. also has a phone style number pad on the keyboard. the keys felt nice and the sliding was smooth. and the screen responded nice. though the accelerometer was not as resposive as he iphone when you moved the phone when viewing webpages. but the zoom was sick.
the camera= i didnt really take pics but the pics he toke and had on the phone was clear. he also showed me the card reader program. with this program you take a pic of a bussines card and it scans the info and make a new ocntact on your phone. it toke like 15 sec for it to scan i thought it froze but it was understandable and still amazinfg when all the info was pust in the correct name, address, etc. sections on the screen. the touch flo with pics are amazing and the screen is so nice. the phone had a led flash if i remember correct. i was so distracted by the pretty screen and touch flo i didnt take time to look much at the buttons and such on the phnone. but i temember a white/yellow thing below the camera lense.
what the phone comes with. the phone i looked at was a test phone so jow said all he got in his black unmarked box was cd, phone, usb, and charger. i know when i went to the sprint store in Hamden, CT where i live and looked at the diamond it came with that and a holtster, air buds, screen protector. i hope att add these things cause for the price i kinda expect it, and htc makes them for the unlocked phone so it should happen.
touch flo was sick. it works as adverticed. they obviously added a att store tab. the pics scrooled nice, and the music player was cool. the contact was scroolable too. i mean everything that you already know is there.
so in closing. the 1st week in november is the date to look for. not this oct 23 but im ok with being proved wrong lol. please excuse and grammer errors. the price should be $300- $400 with the rebate. its not the iphone so they are not going to make there money of volume. and if i remember correct it is a dark red color. i hope this was helpfull to someone cause i was excited when i saw it. though i played it cool. lol Thanks

I don't know if he was trying to be pejorative with his reply, but I enjoyed your long post and its little details.
I'm a bit disappointed with the ATT version of this phone from all accounts. There are really two big things for me. First, the top row of keys would be far more useful had it been left alone as numbers in my opinion. I'm sure I'll get used to it if I end up buying the Fuze, but it's still a disappointment.
The second issue is really just an annoyance, which may end up being completely null in the end. It's the Diamond back, and how prone to wobbling it seems it will be. However, without a tilting screen it is unlikely I would ever really be typing on it while on flat surface anyway (in fact, I normally pick up my Tilt to type even with the tilting screen). And ever since discovering Pocket Controller Pro I'm even less likely to even touch my phone while it's on my desk. So maybe the positives of the aesthetic Diamond back actually outweigh the probably minor negatives of its functionality.

It's odd, my Fuze actually sat on a table and stayed in one position, didn't lean either way, just sat there with the way the back was. I had no problems with it. Also, I'm surprised to see you didn't like the symbols on top, most people I've spoken with (myself included) like the functionality of the symbols. Oh well, to each their own.
Which store in Milford? I used to live there but i'm in college in NYC now. At the Post mall or next to the Starbucks and stuff?
yes the one in the mall. the one by starbuks had a guy that was going for the training but as far as i know there was no test phone at that store. which is weird cause that is the bigger store.
and also i did test typing with the diamond back and it in fact did wobble when typing on a flat surface. though ur right u probably would just hold it rather than type on a flat surface.

Even if it does, you can remove it.
With 3rd party software or with a feature that is built-in?
There are countries passing out laws that a camera on a phone must make that noise so people in the area know a photo is being taken. I was just wondering if AT&T Fuze was on that list.

A friend of mine got the nokia n82 with a 5 MP camera. The problem that he finds with it is that the camera makes that noise through the speaker when he takes a picture with it. Even when his phone is on silent or when his headphones are plugged in. I don't think he's found a tweak for it yet.
I was just wondering if it was the same with the Fuze. If anyone who has it can confirm it, it will be greatly appreciated.
when "Joe" toke the picture for the business card it did make a flash sound. though i dont know if the feature can be turned off. but like posted before im sure someone here will be able to fix that no prob.
and on a side note has anyone got any new on the android OS working on the fuze.

Damn, just googled Milford, CT, and it would be an hours drive... Guess I'll have to wait until release to play with the Fuze
P.S. To the guy with the camera questions, every HTC phone that I know of has had the option to turn off the camera sound...

That's the same question I was about to ask. When you say dark red, do you mean as in the Blackjack II?
yes i do mean a dark red like the black jack II. it was ruby, dark burgundy color. i maybe mistaken cause i was blinded by the sole fact that i has the phone in my hand. lol
ill probably go look at i again this weekend or today. but i dont want to seem like that weird customer that comes in and never buys anything. i work sales and i hate that BS. lol

Well there are two reasons I would prefer the numbers. First of all, it's more like an actual computer keyboard. That would make it more comfortable and normal feeling - at least in theory. Second - and more importantly - I type numbers more often than I type symbols. Having the convenience of not needing to press the function key would be very nice.
I suppose it could go either way though. I'm definitely going to try out the keyboard before I buy, and I'll likely try out the Sprint version (or unlocked HTC version, if I can get my hands on one for a few minutes without purchasing it) also just to make sure. With a fifth row, I'm sure it's an improvement over the four rows on my Tilt no matter which configuration though, so it's not even close to a deal breaker. Just a little disappointment.

i think most people don't mind the number PAD because you can press Fn twice to do a number lock. And since the numbers are grouped together, theoretically it's easier to type series of numbers...ie. phone number
i didn't like the fact that 5th row # was removed (they added that 5th row for THAT REASON!), but then I can see other people's point as well...oh well, i've come to accept that fact, as long as Fuze doesn't make us wait any longer
I am extremely disappointed in the quality of my AT&T Fuze quality. The clear plastic laminate covering the soft keys at the bottom of the phone is starting to peel off after only 2 months at the HOME and BACK button corners.
This resulted in a razor sharp edge to protrude from the phone at the Home button. My wife went to answer a call and when she pulled the phone up to her face it resulted in a very deep slash to her right cheek. I was surprised on how badly my phone cut my wife. We couldn't get the bleeding to stop as it put a deep cut into the side of her face. I called AT&T and informed them of what happened and requested that they replace the phone but they say this issue is not covered under warranty. The idiot on the phone implied that I must have dropped the phone. The request to talk to his superior got me little results.
FYI...even with the $5/mo. insurance AT&T tried to tell me that I would have to pay a $125 deductible for a replacement unit. You cannot SuperGlue these corners back down without risking also gluing down the soft keys or I would have tried to fix the phone myself. I even threatened to take the 30 lines my company has with AT&T wireless (we average $150/mo per line) back to Verizon Wireless if they did not replace my phone and still they could care less.
My next move was to call HTC America this morning but they too were of no help. I was transfered to some product specialist who claimed they had no record of such an issue. So I am stuck with a very expensive phone that is falling apart.
Since AT&T was so rude and unhelpful I am taking all 30 of my employee's lines plus those of my family back to Verizon and it will be the last HTC product I buy. High performance phones but dare you have any problem I learned the hard way that AT&T nor HTC are willing to stand behind their product. I hear that the Samsung Omnia is supposed to be a great smartphone and I've had good luck with Samsung products. The Omnia lacks the VGA screen but boasts a 5MP camera...at this point I'll take if over an overpriced HTC product that begins to fail soon after purchase! I also remember how Verizon was almost always too willing to replace a quirky smartphone every time I had an issue.
I have to believe that others must be having the same defective issue with their Touch/Touch Pro/Fuze screen or soft keys peeling off. If so we need to gang up on HTC to do the right thing and replace these phones!!!
ummmm.... The "soft keys" are the virtual buttons on the screen at the bottom. The HARD KEYS are the Home and Back, etc.
I could see them warping from sun/heat, water/sweat exposure and possibly a glue failure where the edges roll/lift up.
I expect half your issue is dealing with the wrong people the wrong way. Regardless of how/why the laminate is rolling up, there should be a repair kit at some level to replace that panel... (I doubt that you could do so without disassembling the phone) HTC OEMs the phone to AT&T/Sprint/Verizon and it is AT&T/sprint/etc's responsibility... not HTC.
Call their support line and immediately ask to speak to their supervisor, get their name if they do not do so, hang up and call again until you get transferred. Explain that you have something to the effect of manufacturer's flaw and you want a REPLACEMENT or REPAIR on your relatively new phone as the way it is now it is potentially safety issue.
Arguing with the $7.00 phone reps accomplishes nothing...

I remember dealing with customers like this at Best Buy when i worked in the Geek Squad (not a pleasant era of my life). They come in hooting and hollering off the bat and no one wants to help them. I was willing to fight for the customer %99 of the time, but when your in my face and start the conversation with "first things first" you get no where.
Try being nice to the rep, charm can get you along way. Threats get you no where in most cases. Otherwise you become that guy who is talked about later on "hey remember that jack ass this morning? yeah he though he could get what ever he wants with that big vein popping out of his head. Classic! Ha Ha"

It would be nice to see some pictures. The Dpad section looks to be one solid piece of plastic, so i'm curious as to how it actually separates.

Being unkind is unattractive, period. However, it's not the customer's responsibility to make you feel warm, fuzzy, and respected. When you work in customer service you're being paid money in exchange for turning angry people into not-angry people. You have to use your people skills and stop feeling so entitled. (From someone who's worked many years in customer service).
i kinda miss worded my self, i would try and work things out regardless of the attitude of the customer. I am VERY tolerant when it comes to people and i have been commented by co-workers on how well i handle things. When people become stubborn and don't listen to what you have to say is when things become difficult. If your nice i'll put a good word in to management to have a rule or two bent in your favor. I'm not saying if you act like an ass i will not help you at all, i just wont be going that extra mile.
Example, iPods. I would deal with dozens of ipods a week (and i mean 4 dozen on a good week). Some times they would be fully covered under warranty, and some times not. If it looks like your dropped it the warranty is void. Now if its not working, but has a minor dent like it was dropped, and they claim it worked post damage, then i may be able to pull a string or two to help you out. If i say it might not be covered and steam shoots out your ears and you throw it at me, well, i will tell you to leave. Telling me you will never shop at a best buy again has no effect on me. That just means i have one less jerk to deal with. I worked in one of the busiest stores in the are, and being so close to Philly and some other not so nice areas i had to deal with allot of scum bags.
What i am trying to say, be nice. It helps. What i am not saying is that i will dismiss your case if your mean or inconsiderate. If some one comes in and brightens my day, i will try and return the favor.

I have heard about the button area rubbing on the corner of the screen and causing the laminate to come up, particular on the corner of the home key. Therese a few threads in here about that. That whole pad i believe is held in with some 2 sided tape and i think some got out with a crooked pad.

I just hope your wife is fine now. I would second what Radimus said in the second post in this thread. Keep calling and try to reach a supervisor, who, most of the times, will understand your problem. What I have learned from speaking to AT&T reps is, that each one is different. Some are really willing to help, while others just doing the job because they have to. If the supervisor does not help, ask how you can formally lodge a complaint or file a report about your issue.
Something worth noticing is that the sales rep make notes - maybe not always, but they do - about what the customer called about and what was the result. So, deal with them in a way that would make things fall on your side in the future. I can certainly understand how frustrated you would be.
This is wired, because I thought I was the only one who's phne that happen to. I was trying to figure out what I did wrong. But now since this came up, I know it is the ATT Fuze phone this is happeing to. Maybe if some how we keep telling them they will figure it is there fault. I take very good of my phone, so I know it is next from heavy use. PLus just like you, I had it for ONLY a couple of months.

Perhaps the problem with AT&T customer care is that they think just like you. Nowhere did I say I was "hooting and hollering off the bat..." I was calm and courteous that was until 1) the jackass giggled when I told him that my wife was slashed by the phone 2) I learned the representative accused me of dropping the phone and made a note on my account that I said the phone was dropped. This phone was never dropped and not once did it come up in our call so why make a note on my account that the phone was dropped? I'll tell you a lazy service rep that took the easy way out . By the time he transfer me to a manager it was no use...she immediately noticed in my account notes that the rep noted that I had dropped the phone when I never did! I think in my case I had every reason to be upset.
UPDATE: I did get AT&T to replace the Fuze but it was only when the local AT&T store called in and said that the phone was not holding it's charge. Now, the scary part. The representative on the phone who works in the warranty department asked to speak to me and said that they were shipping out a replacement Fuze. IF they find anything on the phone that they consider "physical damage" I will automatically be billed $499 on my AT&T Wireless account with no chance for refund or opportunity to dispute.
The replacement phone has not showed up yet, but I am almost tempted to send it right back in fear that I will get charged $499 for this laminate issue. How do I know that they won't call the issue "physical damage?"
I never had these issues with Verizon and am thinking about shipping the phone right back, sell my Fuze on eBay for whatever I can get for it and run back to AT&T. I also politely called and e-mailed HTC America (for those here that assume every customer has anger issues.) No reply to my e-mail or voicemail despite sharing with them photos of my wife's injury.

NO it doesn't but if AT&T won't take care of the problem I'll switch back to Verizon and the Omina has better specs than the Verizon version of the Touch Pro...
The only thing that irks me more than people who hoot and holler is people who threaten, "If I don't get my way, I'll just switch to..." Do you actually think companies care? For every customer they lose, there are another 10 on the fence they can just convince to buy their product/sign up for their service.

The only thing that irks me more than people who hoot and holler is people who don't read a thread before replying. I never hooted or hollered at anyone, though I had every right to do so. I never "threatened" anyone at AT&T or mention pulling our phones...I know they don't care if my company leaves AT&T or they would have taken care of the issue. I just stated what my intentions were since AT&T and HTC refused to help.

SUE!!!!!! I would sue HTC and or AT&T for the injury to your wife. Then once you get what you want out of them, then switch to Verizon.
i should prolly take pictures of mine. its doing the same thing. its very slight but very pokey. if you slide you finger across it, it stabs you.
I wouldnt really worry about AT&T billing you for the damaged phone. I probably did 3 or 4 warranty replacements over the last few years and ALL of the phones looked like they went through hell. My tilt didnt align properly and had paint chipping everywhere, also a lot of spots where it kissed the concrete. They took it back just fine.

You have a case here if you did not dropped the phone.
You can find direct contact to the president or regional manager (you need to insist and insist, it is not going to be easy, all the down line will tell you they can help, just don't loose your time and talk to the BIG GUYS), and ask for a meeting, once you show evidence they WILL REPLACE IT.
JUST write down the date you first NOTICED THEM about the issue, so they CANNOT say that you did not in TIME.
IF you CANNOT succeed, then I'M SURE AS HELL there's GOT TO BE an AGENCY where you can COMPLAIN ABOUT THEM (Like FCC or Whatever that will put them Penalties, and at that time they WILL BEG YOU to PLEASE let them REPLACE IT for YOU) and you will see how fast they will move.

I had to snip my screen protector with a nail clipper to keep it from ruining my pants. it started rolling back and became quite sharp.

I've seen a couple of posts about this on forums but, I've had a similar thing to a few users now, where I have 2 circles of "Dead" pixels appear on the phone.
Seemed to appear suddenly today at work. I've not dropped the phone (today) but, I have had it in my pocket when getting out the car and, it might have been caught between my leg and steering wheel of the car.
I know there's been some suggestions of placing the phone in a carrier bag and, then in the fridge for a couple of hours (well, couple of hours to a weekend). I'm a bit nervous of this but willing to give it a try.
Just wondering though, does anyone have any explanation for why this happens? I can't see it being physical damage to the screen, as otherwise there would be whole columns of dead pixels or spider patterns with a crack. In the middle of the circles, it seems to be sub-pixels that are out (Blue / Red - Green seems to be OK). Also, has anyone else had the same experience and tried putting the phone into the fridge and, does this work? Annoying though it is, I'd rather live with it than knacker the phone totally lol.
I've attached some pictures to demonstrate what I mean... Note, on the blue one, it looks as though there's a pentagram dotted in the lower circle... Satanic Possession? lol

Probably just enough pressure and maybe battery and body heat, did the same with my Acer and a till reciept scrunched up so now have a multi-coloured circle in centre of screen... doubt there's a fix except replacing it

Thanks for the feedback on this. I think you're both right. The screen is slowly getting worse. The sub-pixels in the middle of the circles have repaired themselves but, the horizontal lines of dead pixels are slowly expanding horizontally across the screen.
I think I'm going to have to face the fact that its broke and see about getting a new screen fitted. I'd normally do it myself but, I've seen how well the digitizer and LCD are glued together, and to the case lol (HTC Sensation).
Am thinking it has to be a pressure 'injury' when getting out the car and, maybe it got trapped between my leg and the steering wheel.
The good news though, at least I have an excuse to nick my tablet back off my son lol
Well... bugger me rigid lol. As I was typing my last message, I thought "sod it, I may as well try putting the phone in the fridge to see if it does any good" After all, I had nothing to lose (as long as I was careful of condensation on the warm up) and... it does actually seem to be having a positive effect!!
Attached 2 more pics... One was taken at work at 3pm, one was taken after 80 minutes in the fridge at 11:30pm (note, the screen had gotten a little worse between 3pm and 10pm).
I've put it back in the fridge for another couple of hours and, will post an update on progress.

Nope, the phone is 18 months old, I rang 3UK and, apparently the warranty is only 12 months so, bummed out there.
Have got the phone back in the fridge after noticing how much of an improvement the first blast of cold air made to it lol. Fingers crossed. I can't believe such a simple thing might actually make it better again
Bummer. Have a hard time seeing the fridge as a permanent solution, yeah you could always try ifixit if you think it's worth a shot.
This is true, I cant see it being permanent either. I did take a look at replacing the screen on YouTube and, it seemed like a straightforward enough task but, not sure about the whole glue thing between motherboard and screen, and screen / digitizer. I know it'll need heating to melt the glue a little but, the video I saw indicated that his heat gun was at 420 degrees Celcius... the psycho!!
Am hoping I can get another 6 months out of the phone, so that I can get an upgrade to a One X / Galaxy S3. I've really loved the phone and, will be sad when it eventually goes.
Just to give anyone interested a bit of a status update... Just about to go to bed and, need the phone for my alarm in the morning so, pulled it out of the fridge again lol.
As you can see from the attached though, it does seem to be still improving.
Going to run the dead pixel fix app overnight (not that I believe this will do anything spectacular) and, may do another round in the fridge tomorrow night. Of course, I will keep you posted.
For now though, the latest comparison - between 11:30PM (the improvement I posted earlier) and 1:30AM. Once again, you can see that the dead pixels do seem to be returning to life.
Well from the pics I'm gonna try it myself not looked up how the screens are made up but the cold could be doing several things as shrinking membranes (those touching may separate) and crystallizing the LCD (expanding the Liquid Crystal) to fill the gaps made at the pressure point, that's my guess so throwing it in the freezer tonight

I probably wouldn't recommend throwing it into the freezer. Just a gut feeling but, as the temperature in there is well below freezing, I think it would do more damage than good. At least in the fridge, it's only around 4 degrees C so, technically still within the operating temperature range of the device.
Also, when you do take it out, make sure you don't just throw the battery straight back in. As soon as it comes out, it gets quite a hefty amount of condensation on it. The last thing I would want is for something to short on the device when it gets its power back and fry your logic board :s
Not much improvement on last night in running the LCD fixing application (as I thought) so, thrown it back into the works fridge - much to the amusement of works colleagues lol. I'll take it back out around lunch time, see how it is, and post the comparison between 1:30AM last night and lunchtime today...

Latest on phone: My director at work advised I should check on operating temperatures of the phone to see how cold I could take it safely. Turns out that they are electronically safe at temperatures of up to -40 degrees C (although there's no way I would actually test this and wouldn't recommend testing it to anyone).
Following from this, I put it in the freezer at work for an hour (after being in the fridge at work for 2).
Not posted the before picture but, here's three pictures of how it looks at the moment. One on a pure white screen then, to demonstrate that it's not just the pixels being stuck white instead of not working, I have also done a shot of my home page, and a shot from a game.
I have a doubter at work who stated quite daringly that he would eat his underpants if the cooling of the phone worked... Now... All I need to do is prove why it's worked, then find some recipe's for Underpant Madras... any suggestions as to both would be appreciated lmao

Just noticed my own screen (or rather noticed it less lol) my spot has gone, although not as bad as your own screen only colour swirls on screen pressure no black/white pixels, I did have my phone slide and bounce off my knee that may have been enough for mine lol was looking forward to fridging it this I will be remembering though
As for a recipe for the grundigs i'd serve them raw .... 3 days worn .... why make it easy lol

Been a little while since my last update so, checking in. I don't have any extra pictures at the moment but, the cold is really starting to make a big difference.
I took it out the ice-making compartment at work at lunchtime and, the screen is mostly repaired. I would say about 5 - 6 dead pixels in a line now, around where the "beak" was on my satanic chicken (lol)
It's still in the fridge at home at the moment and, will probably stay there most of the weekend. This last bit is being quite stubborn to shift but hoping that it does shift and, when it does, it goes for good.
I'll let you know how it goes anyhow. I'm simply stunned by the improvement so far though

Well, the great news is the phone is now completely 100%
I've attached a photo of the screen with my home wallpaper on it... The trouble is, I can't remember exactly where the fault was so I can't get the exact same screen so, I've taken a wider shot which still demonstrates that there are no dead pixels.
I did have a bit of trouble getting Wifi and the SD card to read when I first powered back up from the latest (4 hour) stint in the freezer but, whipped the battery straight out and let it settle back to room temperature some more, then used a hairdryer just to ensure that any last bits of condensation had cleared up.
Fully working phone once again. I think I'll serve underpant soup at work on Monday lmao.
Thanks for following this little thread that I'd done and thanks for your input too. It's certainly been an interesting journey and, hopefully someone else with a similar problem can benefit from my experience too.

What a cool way to fix your phone I have a Nokia 6303 classic with dead pixels. I will place in the fridge overnight and wait for the results next morning.
Good to hear it's running again, bear in mind it wont take as much to bring the fault back if pressure is applied again but from my own phone it does wear off so repeating the damage is repairable but will probably shorten it's life.
And please by all means post the pics of the garnished garment meal

i'm posting this because I am going crazy about this and maybe you can help me figure it out (maybe it is something so dumb that I didn't think of it lol)
Well, here's the story:
Back in 2014, i used to have a Galaxy S (yeah, the first one of the S series, and yeah, it was already old when I had it in 2014). Pretty damn slow phone. Anyway, long story short, one day I went for a walk with it in my pocket, accidentally pulled my earphone's cord, the phone got out and went straight into the asphalt. This was the result:

Only the glass cracked, the LCD (is that an LCD screen? lol) wasn't affected. I always used a plastic screen cover that I believe helped keeping the glass around. Damage was pretty good but I didn't get too sad about it because a few weeks later I would be getting myself a Note 3. When that happened, the broken Galaxy S was laid to rest inside its box at the bottom of my wardrobe.
Fast forward to September 2017, when i sold the Note 3 to buy my current smartphone and had to use an old smartphone until the new one arrived. Grabbed the old Galaxy S and great!, working slow and heavy like a charm.
Kept using it for the next few days, until at some point whein messing around at the old phone's stored pictures I found exhibit A (that I had sent back in 2014 to my friends to show the damage) and I remembered what did the cracked screen look like. What the ****.

Exhibit B is the picture I took with a friend's phone at the exact moment I realized that the screen was less broken (?) than before. Here are a few considerations about that:
1. The phone didn't leave its box, the box didn't leave the wardrobe. Nobody repaired the screen, and that can be told because of the two major crack points found in both pictures (first one in the bottom right corner of the phone, which may be a bit harder to see in the first picture, but it's there; and the one right above the center of the screen that can be better seen in exhibits C and D below)
2. The glass REALLY broke. It wasn't only the plastic screen protector, which btw I never replaced nor removed, it's still there holding the cracks (?) together.
3. There is no genius joke like "the second picture was taken before the first one and actually it was all a prank". No, the first pic is really from 2014 and the second is really from 2017. You can tell that by:
- looking at the Whatsapp design that really changed over the years; and
- well, believing me, because i really have no other pictures of it broken. hehe
These last two pictures I took tonight when I got crazy about that again (after the first euphoria about it last year, the phone went back into the wardrobe) and decided to post it here for you guys to tell me that the solution is really dumb and laugh at me.

So, XDA - wft has happened here? Is "screen semi-gluing itself back" an existing technology? Did the glass pieces only rearranged back to their normal place and the cracks are still there, but less visible? Did the plastic screen cover help? Should I look for more important things to worry about?

tl,dr - smartphone screen broke, found it less broken three years later.
I am starting to have a love/hate relationship with this phone. I love it. It hates me. (I'm including the whole story in case others have came across any of these other issues that I have, because at this point in time I feel like I could take this thing apart and put it back together in my sleep).
I bought one for a good price on ebay, get it and all is well for about 2 weeks. The case starts to appear to start splitting. I take the back off and the battery is swelling. I could have sent the phone back, but I found a battery for $12 and so I replaced it. Everything's working great.
About 2 weeks after that, I was walking up the stairs at work and tripped, the phone caught the corner of my wrist and the bottom left part of the screen shattered. I find a new screen/assembly and think, for $50 I got this...
After watching pretty much every video on YouTube, I'm feeling confident and get started. The screen came with the basic took kit and each of the two "guitar pic" type tools were destroyed in the process. (I even tried an actual guitar pic, ineffective and flimsy). Good basic concept with those, but they are pretty much a one time use thing. Glad there were two.
I tested the new screen before I took the whole thing apart, every test passed with flying colors. Take everything apart, attach the new screen, get to the end (the one part of the video I apparently failed to really pay attention to) the proper way to pop the screen back in. Get to the last part of that and crack. The screen, with very little pressure, cracks as the top left. Not bad, it was still usable. But I was so disappointing.
I was pretty bummed out and hobbled along. I should have went with the same source, but I ended up getting another screen from another source and when it finally arrived, I didn't think about it, and went ahead and took the phone apart, put everything on the new frame, getting ready to pop it on the back cover, decide to test it then. No response what so ever from the touch screen. It would power on, but nothing would make it swipe to the lock screen. (I also noticed in the top corner "No Service" (an issue that I have since seen people get but no real reliable fix). I put the old screen on. Works like a champ, take everything apart a couple more times thinking maybe I didn't get something right. Nothing. I contact the vendor and he is awesome and he sends me a free replacement.
This time I test the screen. Right off the bat I get Touch Disable Mode. Crap. Look up that and find the Settings Database editor solution. (I tried the volume up + power but as soon as the screen locked it enabled again). Screen passes all other test, but now there is that lingering "No Service" issue. I never really figured out what fixed that. But this is what I did. 1. took all of the red film off of the new screen, Now the phone shows my carrier, but still no service. So I did a factory reset. and Voila, good to go.
Which brings me to now. I have the new screen ready to go in and I notice 1 part that is throwing me off.
I really don't want to take this apart again...
I don't have a pic of the original screen as my phone is currently in pieces... But this is what I came up with if anyone has any ideas on how I should approach this, and what is the significance of this part? I can't find anything on it. From here on out said part shall be called "flappy thing":
