Android / Linux port for PHOTON
Introduction:
HTC Photon looks very similar to HTC Liberty. It's not only external look, as well they are very similar.
My goals was to determine how fast it can be binged up on HTC PHOTON.
Actually they much more changes, that it looks at first view.
PHOTON doesn't have digital compass, while LIBERTY have it.
As well LIBERTY have optical trackball, PHOTON doesn't.
Notes about future development:
All GPIOs looks same in PHOTON & LIBERTY.
Only 192Mb RAM used for now. Additional RAM can be activated.
Battery driver doesn't work, heave difference between PHOTON & LIBERTY.
GSensor doesn't work, looks like it's problem of userspace android library.
Calls are working, data (GPRS) - not. It maybe big problem to implement DATA connection.
WLAN also not working somehow.
Buttons are working, but they need proper align. (buttons are part of touchscreen).
Status:
http://htc-linux.org/wiki/index.php?title=PhotonStatus
"Unknown" means not tested. I had not enough time to test it well.
I didn't test anything really. Only just looks for "yes" / "no", no deep testing because not enough time.
Files to download:
for developers:
KERNEL + HARET sources.
Note this HARET only compatible with HTC PHOTON.
http://cotulla.pp.ru/photon/Cotulla_PHOTON_AD_Devs.rar
for users:
ANDROID which runs from SD card, without removing Windows Mobile.
Copy files to root of SD card and run "HARET_PHOTON7227.exe"
http://cotulla.pp.ru/photon/Cotulla_PHOTON_AD_Users.rar
NOTE about files. I will delete this files tomorrow or after tomorrow.
Please reupload them to different file share hostings. Otherwise it will cause too big traffic to my site. Sorry for that.

DISCONTINUED:
I won't continue developing of Android/Linux for PHOTON. Why?
*Main goals of this project are passed. All stuffs was ported in about 5 days.
*I have not much free time to develop android for another device. (I am supporting several devices, they take a lot of time)
*It's rather useless? You can sold PHOTON and buy LIBERTY. With native android inside. With compass inside. With trackball inside. With same size and design like PHOTON.
*And main reason: My father's phone is broken. I will give him PHOTON So I won't have PHOTON device anymore. And can't develop for it.
*I hope you appreciate all this
Anyway goodluck in developing, a lot of work already done (the hardest part however...)
-Cotulla
Awesome job you did there Cotulla. I don't own a Photon myself but have been trying to help the guys in another thread with some hints to try and get HaRET working. It's unfortunate you can't continue development. But with your work maybe some other developers that have the Photon can make it fully functional.
I've mirrored the files here:

This is SO NICE!! I hope someone can pick up Android development now and we can get Android on our devices. And what you're saying about HTC Liberty, we can't buy it over here So I had to buy HD Mini
Thank you so much!
PS: I still hope you'll get another Photon in the future
Thank you so much! This a VERY BIG STEP for us!
We will continue with your work
Thank You Very Much Cotulla!!!

Yes. I have tried
I can only tell a compliment to devolopment.
... a very polished look and work a little slower than wm (so far)
for 2 hours of testing a few times I had to put the sim card pin
hm i tested it too and android working ..but i have a few questions...hm could it be that our (or my european device from germany) mini ist not fully working with ARIA rom? maybe we need Gratia rom ? im asking that because ehen i started booting first time i could only chose betwen 3 languages (and german or other European languages are not there). and the second thing is that it didnt find my SD-Card .. and i heard that aria only accept specific SD Cards`? is that right?
or is it possible to replace this aria(liberty) rom to an gratia rom? because we now have working haretfix `? thanks for the attention greetz silver sorry for my english
first off all:
THIS IS NOT A WORKING ANDROID!
please read first post for details.
haret does not give us the possibility to run complete "ROMS". we have to build kernels and android on our own. and as i can see there is no special gratia source on htc developers site, so i think there is no difference in hardware.
great job! thanks so much
ok thanks for the explanation schlund

Hey,
I've just stumbled upon this community and I'm really grateful to see so many developers working on HTC Android devices. That said, I would like to ask for some info on the custom ROMs that work on Magic (features, differences, etc.).
Could outline them quickly or point to somewhere I can read that info?
Thank you so much!

Let me try:
Haykuro6.0r1 ROM:It's an HTC no Brand ROM, it still has problems like:volume of the micrphone(for the otherone on the phone it's difficult to hear you), and it's slower than the others.
Roger's ROM: it's still an HTC no Brand, but has some ION's improvements, that means it's faster than the 6.0r1, it has some apps pre-installed, microphone bug fixed, and other stuff (read the thread).
Hero ROM:it has Rosie, so it's graphically ahead of the others ROM, but it's not released yet by HTC, it means that it's incredible slow (compared to the others), and has lot of bugs (again: read the thread for more info)
France ROM: Never tried, but it should be (the releaser forgive me if I'm wrong) a Vodafone ROM , with ION's improvements, and JF kernel, that means it's fast, but you can't install HTC2s apps.
Every ROM's should ( not sure about it, again: read each thread) have tethering enebled, and everything working (except for the bluetooth in the Hero's ROM, that is not working yet)
If I've forget other ROMs sorry for that, but it's quite late here!
I'm sure somebody else could be more specific...
Thanks!
So what are the advantages of each ROM when compared to the default one? What's the difference between ION and the current ROM?
Also, just to make sure, rooting and installing custom ROMs doesn't void the warranty, does it?
XDA user simon walker created a build database for the Dream. Maybe he would be willing to do the same with Sapphire.

Thanks again!
So for battery life, speed and stability what would you suggest? (I need WiFi and A2DP too...)

NEWS: AS OF TODAY FEB 26TH WE HAVE A BOOTABLE KERNEL! WE ARE WORKING TO IMPROVE IT'S STABILITY. STILL NO FRAME BUFFER SO WE CAN NOT SEE OUTPUT PAST THE KERNEL BOOT.
*********************************************
NEWS:
Since I don't update this first post very often I thought I'd share some news for those following the project.
We have a git repository now! This will allow the project developers to share code and work together much more efficiently. Anyone interested in joining us send me a PM
The stable branch is the one we will be adding permanent commits to, the experimental branch adds official support for the lg incites registered mach type, meaning the kernel recognizes our device, it will be merged into the stable branch once it is bug free and cleaned up.
Stable Branch(still not booting)

Experimental Branch (still not booting)
http://gitorious.org/~randomblame/linux-on-qualcomm-s-msm/experimental-linux-msm-lg-incite
We also have an IRC channel, you can join us on freenode channel #lg-linux

I attach the haret.exe and the zimage
Someone can throw(shoot) a hand to me helps
i just bump it, i will work for this when i can i guess in weekends , who need GF anyway
odd that looks like something I wrote... very strange.
Android for LG GM750 would be cool!
great.. are you completing the project.. i was failed and tired
I´m hopefully awaiting an working stable port for the gm750,
because its hardware is great for its price, but the system is crap and since we also know that development for winmo 6.x will slowly die within the release of wp7, android would be a great(and only) chance to have an up to date, good system which will also get lots of support in the future.
So, please keep working on it guys!

I think this needs a bump.
Well, it's pretty big bulge ) xD
Dont let this topic die...i have GM750 and i need android on it...ill tried to modify other phone`s default.txt file a lot but no luck...it would be fine to get a working port on this handy.
I do not want to die in this thread because I also really like LG and GM750 is, Windows Mobile just does not like it. I do not understand the Android Linux kernel access this building ... so i can not help this. But I think if the team is dealing with XDANDROID 1 day is running smoothly I think you could do ... Someone please HELP! (sorry I'm not English [translate.google.com] )
still hoping... no new apps for wm6.5 now
I agree
Im from over at the lg-incite.com forum, and I've been following the progress of their Android port for a rather long time. The guy who's been doing most of the programming has other life issues he's dealing with right now. Car wreck, kid on the way, etc, and I can sympathize.
Our biggest roadblock is an lcd driver. Over here in xda, they had the same problem with, i believe, the htc diamond. Their solution was to make their own driver. We don't have that kind of knowledge (that i know of). If someone from XDANDROID could pop on over and give us a hand, whether through making us a driver, or pointing us in the right direction, this project can be resurrected, finished, and ready for the world to see!
i've been trying to help as much as I can, but a college kid that works full time and plays in a band doesn't have much spare time. But I try. I love my Incite and want to see this thing run all the same stuff the modern PDAs run.
LONG LIVE THE INCITE
Hix, adroid is a dream with my GM750

This thread is created just to inform you kind chefs that a working linux kernel for the HD2 has been built by:
Developers:
cr2, LeTama, Markinus, NetRipper, dcordes
We (the HD2 community) were wondering where the android builds are now that the hard part has been done.
I created this thread to inform you of this succes.
Original thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=651632
(you will see the high demand for android once you are there )

That would be great to have Android on HD2 !
That's AWESOME news!
Can't wait to have this running on my HD2.
This is a little premature to be asking devs to make android builds.... the kernel doesn't even have sound or touchscreen drivers implemented yet. The kernel is bootable, but nowhere near done.

everything starts small and buggy. you wont get a fully functional android build from one day to another
I don't know much about this but I heard that T-Mobile USA will be reportedly (rumors right now) be getting an HTC 4.3" Android snapdragon device with sense called the Sidekick Twist (though it will have a QWERTY) sometime this summer. Maybe somebody could try a transfer of that rom if and when out releases. Don't have an HD2 but that would be awesome.
Sent from my Liquid using Tapatalk
Hope to see some Ando Cookies for HD2 in close future.
Thanks to all Developers.
Cheers,
Let the cookers tries to rebuild android with the good toolchain, hope everything will be fine in the compilation process !
I think we'll know soon what is missing or doesn't work with Android and HD2.
Thanks to all guys (dcordes, LeTama, NetRipper, ...) for making this possible !
Congrats to all those working so hard on this. Great progress and a working ROM must be on the cards before too long. I'm not going to lie though, I wish you all worked faster
THaNks To All THE DEVS....
Thanks guys for working hard on this HACK.... Cant wait to have the android 2.1 running on my hd2... "Keep Moving At The Speed Of Light"
As you know, Google has published Froyo sources. And there is a froyo on SF already. I tried it on my POLA100. It installed and launched well. No wifi, bt, camera, external sound, gps, 3g... Nothing except phone—can receive and send calls. For my humble opinion it runs as fast as current speeded eclairs, even dialer runs almost immediately. Will it see future on polarises, or it's time to think about some native android device? =)
..................deleted
I dont know what you expect from our devs here.
As far as i know the source is only a few days old (23.june).
At this moment eclair is about to get fully functional camera, stable builds, battery life and a good competition between the roms.
So if you neeeed it that much it would be the best to buy a native android device that gets the latest versions first.
---------
So there will be a delay, it depends on how much changes must be done.
I hope that android will become more and more a real alternative for our device.
Since im using android on my polaris i think its like i bought a totally new device and im really happy about it.
Another thx to all devs, modders here ;D

Sorry for possible intonation and meaning misunderstanding. Actually I didn't complain or tried make somebody do something. I appreciate all the devs for their work, It is really great challenge for them to port and adapt builds and eclair gets almost perfect lately. My question was actually just a question about possible future. There could be some hardware restrictions, incompatible drivers, who knows what else, right? So it could be no future for Froyo on polaris at all, that was my question about actually. But dzo has already answered it with uploaded froyo build which installed and launched on my polaris, so I am glad that there is possible oportunity for Froyo and polaris. And of course I am not agitating to get native android phones, and not laughing on enthusiasts here, forgive me my english. =)
iD
ah sorry too, got you wrong^^
sometimes hard if everybody is translating ;D
In the vogue thread they started the froyo development by incubus.
First build is on with bug, but he tries to get a build with most things working this night ^^
Faster than thought
If this is in the wrong section please move it instead of deleted it. Thanks y'all are awesome
So, what I want to is make my own Ice Cream Sandwich ROM.
I want to take stock android and:
-Make everything work right (camera, buttons, drivers for proper graphics and stuff, etc)...
-Use a good boot animation (I already have in mind which one)
Stuff like that. Would my old server with a dual dual-core Intel Xeon CPUs (total of 4 cores), 6GB RAM, and RAID SCSI disks be good enough, to compile it? Do I even need to compile it? or just unzip and zip?
Thanks!
PS: can I use Windows or would Ubuntu work better? I've also got a MacBook Air that I guess I could use
I won't touch on the driver thing (simply because it's not an easy thing as you suggest). Not only are there various 'work arounds' for the camera issue... but... eh.
Also, I will say that boot animations are nothing more than a text file and a bunch of images... no compiling done there. Just google around and you'll find the 'needed' format VERY easily... and probably even suggested software to make it easy.
Be careful, as you have a condescending style about how things that are easy but aren't, and aren't easy but are... while you haven't even really done any research. These things... they do not go over well here.
Ok as stated it is not as easy as it sounds. Compiling from source is not easy and making everything work is not easy either as the drivers are not released for this device. As all the source is ported from another device. Some of the best minds on XDA have been working for months trying to get the camera to work but with the new rules to the AOSP source from Google it is a huge undertaking. No longer can you build a full working rom from AOSP as the OEM drivers are no longer included due to being closed source and not released.
There are walk thru videos out there but like the Gentlemens above me said it is not a simple task. If you look at the developers it's a collaboration of several members making a team just for one ROM. But you can play around with several ROMs like I did:
Some Ice Cold Sandwich with a little salt from Redemption and a little pepper from Zues and BOOM my perfect ROM for me. (My Frankenstein)
BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1. Dont get me wrong I'm not saying you can take bits and pieces from different ROMS and create your own and offer it here cause thats stealing from developers without their permission. But only for your enjoyment and PLAY AT YOUR OWN RISK.
2. you can't ask for help from developers when you alter their ROMs.
GOOD GOD!!!! Hope my phone don't die with so much flashing and testing (lmao)
Sorry if I made it sound like I didn't realize how huge of an effort good ROM development is. I do!
However, if I just take AOSP then attach the device drivers then add the features I want, I can release it as mine, right?
I'm bored with web design and development, so I figured hey let me try android stuff!
Maybe I should learn how to make an Android app first I have a feeling my basic Java knowledge won't be enough.
Would it be better to start with that, then progress to the more complicated stuff?
And I appreciate the time you are all taking to answer my random questions
I wish I could make Android apps with HTML, CSS, PHP, and Javascript. LOL!

HAHA yeah sometimes I wonder if it's bad for it
But I've dropped it about 20 times and it still works no damage except for a tiny scratch in the screen so I'd say flashing ROMs is much safer for it than dropping it. LOL!
