[Q] Honeycomb for nook color, why not for us? - G Tablet General

Why are we not getting honeycomb to play with?

You really need to read some threads before posting a question that has already been answered many times.
Sent from my Viewsonic G Tablet running TnT Lite 4.2.2 w/ Pershoot's Kernel using Tapatalk Pro

And the honeycomb you are referencing has no practical use in the real world. Its a hacked together UI that does nothing but run the preview sdk

if it was worth it we would have it. our devs kick ass

Moved to general

I hate to sound like a jerk but what is it with all the people whining about honeycomb. The only version out so far is a hacked version built off the prelim sdk and in no way will work for the g tablet. Anyone who has been Modding for anytime knows the cardinal rule for android...
DON'T ASK FOR ETA'S.
When honeycomb is officially released by Google I'm sure it'll be like every other release and in a short time we'll have our own version. Until then have some patience please and do some research.

or if you want honeycomb straight away then get a xoom and pay the big bucks

What i dont get is why do people ask and ask...........
Doesnt your gtab do everything you need It to?
honeycomb... Hero cookie....danish....pop tart...soda cracker........flap jack or royal with cheese
Just names I dont see anything i cant wait for.
Now when they say the next android version will give my gtab the ability for it to make me samwiches and give me oral pleasure on demand that is when i will be all over the devs to build that $hit....

Instead of anwers that are coherent and useful we get alot of mouthy folks that serve no purpose. What a bunch of AH's!

Really?

Let me get this straight. You post in the wrong section, you ask for an ETA, and you obviously did not search, which also means you did not read any of the forum rules or stickies. Yet, somehow we are all assholes. You know if you just follow a few simple rules your experience with XDA will be much better. The rules here are no different than any other forum. I am going to assume you are new to this, so I will help you a bit. Search for what an SDK port is and you will quickly realize why you do not want this.

I think you should flash the Nook Color ROM BilliamB, you obviously know what you're doing, I'm sure you can get it to work. I mean come on, the G Tablet has a Tegra 2 processor, it should totally work right? Although you may want to read a few threads.... oh wait, you obviously don't do that. Come on dude, the only one here being an AH (as you put it) is you.
Sent from my Viewsonic G Tablet running TnT Lite 4.2.2 w/ Pershoot's Kernel using Tapatalk Pro

Seriously.... You will not see Honeycomb on the G Tablet until another unit is released with Honeycomb and has the Tegra 2 chip. The issue is the instruction sets are different enough that its not a one for one port. The Nook, Dell Streak 5, Tegra 2, etc. are all based on the ARMv7 instruction set but there are difference in their implementation enough that make them incompatible. In addition the biggest differences lay in the I/O subsystem which makes these platforms completely different. With these major differences it makes porting from the emulator (which is how they are getting Honeycomb to work) a daunting tasking and nearly impossible on a Tegra 2 based device.
I am very confident after the first Honeycomb system image is posted it will be running on our tablets... It will be a race as to who gets props on Engadget for being the first to port to the G Tablet..
You would get less hostility if you read, learned and asked accordingly. Its a give and take community. Unfortunately the way you asked makes it seem your less inclined to contribute and just take...

Totally agreed. XD.

Hey Alpha06...
I'm just curious if that is a confirmed news or word of mouth that the G-tablet would have Honeycomb around the March?

I wouldn't guarantee that Honeycomb for the G-tab would be available for sure in March, however I wouldn't be surprised to see Alpha-versions of Honeycomb ROMs shortly after the first Tegra2 devices are released and rooted. Like everyone has been saying around here, don't ask for an ETA, because the people around here that do develop do it on their personal time. They have lives, work, and possibly kids, wives, or whatever that also wants their time as well.
Remember, porting a ROM is a lot easier if there is solid reference material to build from. As you may notice, TNT-Lite comes from his building on and improving the existing TNT version of Android that came with the G-Tablet. Vegan is a modification and improvement of the Vega OS. I don't believe that the developers of either package (and correct me if I am wrong) went to Google's GIT repository for Android and compiled their own versions of the OS specifically for the device - along with writing their own custom device drivers for all of the internal hardware. They built off of, and improved what was available.
IIRC, the Nook port of Honeycomb is only partially functional. The just released port for the Dell Streak (http://www.mytabletlife.com/2011/02/08/dell-streak-honeycomb-port/) is as well. Why, because they are essentially starting from scratch.
Which brings everything back to my original point. As soon as reference devices are out in the wild, I'm sure that will be the point where we will see Honeycomb ports start to pop up here as well.
BigJohn

march can not get here soon enough... heh.

Feeling impatient

I've had my phone 2 weeks and run out of things to do to it. Where's the roms? froyo where are you ?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Well I can't wait for froyo + full file system lag fix
If you're not satisfied with the current rate of development, feel free to put together your own rom or even contribute to current development. The phone is what, two, three months old? Some phones didn't even have root methods for that long. If you wanted an att device that had a background of strong community hacking, should have gone with an htc device. The method of building roms on this phone is massively different and requires time to get everything sorted. And I'm willing to believe a lot of devs are waiting fur for the 2.2 source

You're saying you're impatient for new roms, implying you are not satisfied with your current options. There are several people doing fantastic work on our phones and you're belittling their work. Even jokingly.

I think you are taking this entire thread the wrong way.
I think the OP is trying to say that he has done all he can, where is something new? More things to play with.
Nowhere did he belittle or offend anyone. Nor was anything implied.
I have had my phone for 7 weeks - I want to see even more new ROMs -but in no way am I saying anything about anyone. I can't wait for the first Cyanogenmod either - I am impatient, just like I was when waiting for the Captivate launch day.

Looks to me like you are a good candidate to get in the kitchen and start cooking. That way you don't have to wait around for the roms and we can all play.
I don't think it's a matter of lightening up, I agree the op surely said "where are the roms?" That could have ben interpreted more than one way, which it was. Coming from the op of the forum nazi thread, sounds like you have plenty of time to start cooking and stop whining

Hey gunny, I know how you feel. I too am a bit bored. The rom development is great so far but that's starting to reach it's limit with what devs can do while we wait for froyo. I would love something new to play with. Maybe flash or some awesome game to come along that really pushes this device. Gps fix from sammysung would be nice. I could drive around using that to kill some boredom.
Anyway, props to the devs. Thank god we have some good ones. I would have been bored weeks ago without and with a laggy phone on top of that.
I understand both sides but unfortunately unless you know how to dev we all must be patient. These guys have done very good work and so far it is right on par with the Vibrant, and we all know T-mobile has many more dev's to work on ROMS. With more time will come better products, and all Galaxy S phones will be waiting for a while for 2.2. If Cyanogen comes out soon it shouldn't be hard for Eugene or someone to make a port of it, even if Eugene does not own a Captivate.
There's no need to fight guys, in all seriousness we have the best touch-screen phone on the whole market!
Gorgeous screen, specs, and soon to be a great international community of devs with the whole family of galaxy s line sharing ideas and accelerating the growth of development at a great pace.
Not to mention the soon to be implemented froyo that will not only introduce optimizations and flash, but also allow for a greater use of the phone's potential- spec wise.
Take into consideration the further development after froyo + full lag fix + a COMMUNITY effort of collaboration and I see a really bright future ahead of us.
Personally I LOVE my phone, it does everything I want it to do (I multi-task like a beast!!) BEAUTIFUL camera software.. I painlessly take panoramic shots! What more can you ask for?
Yes some high quality games compared to that of the iphone would be great, but the anti-piracy measures are not on par with the iphone at the moment, so we'll have to wait a little for the big-name app/game developers to step in.

I don't know what you mean by "all of my posts recently have had attitude." I generally answer any questions asked and follow it up with any advice I can offer. threads like this where, even unintentionally, the OP is kind of being dismissive toward the excellent work Unhelpful, DG, eugene (and a slew of others who I have forgotten to name).
it'd be fine if he was just opening a thread to say "I'm excited for something new! can't wait for froyo! woo!" it's that the attitude of this is "I'm bored with all the work everyone else has done." especially when it's someone who doesn't contribute to development (not counting donations, I have no idea if he has donated) himself. I just want people to be grateful for what they have right now... there's no need a open a thread saying "I want more but I want others to do the work"
Dude. Quit reading into stuff that isn't there. As for donated monies, I have indeed done so in the past. Lots. I HAVE NOT (REPEATING AGAIN) disparaged anyone or their work in my thread or any post I have ever made hear on XDA (feel free to search) If I am complaining about anything it's samsung, And YOU at the moment.
I'll say again then I'm done in this thread. Lighten up Francis.

And Kaik, I am NOT directing this at you personally, just used your quote. This is meant as a general comment not directed at any specific person....
Ok, I clicked on this thread because I could have written it myself, as it was intended. Which was obviously "Ok, I tried all the mods and now I want to try a new one or an update of 1 I already have."
For instance, as you can see from my signature, I run sre123. Last night, Designgears posted that 123a would be posted that night. I thought nothing of saying "ooo, can't wait, please hurry!!!" because DG knows how I meant it (I hope).
I have only seen a couple of REAL jerk posts, and those were like "hey thanks, your mod/rom broke my phone" idiots. Read the OP's and mod and your own risk, fools!
I have NEVER programmed. I understand what gets done here, having been a pc tech, but I can ONLY help by installing and testing and reporting results. This device and this forum has inspired me to try to learn what the guys like Cyanogen, Designgears, Eugene etc do. But until I learn, I will eagerly await new stuff to play with, much like the OP of this thread.
Sorry to type so long a note, but the ONLY thing that can ruin this forum is nazi's. I live in S Florida, got enough condo and homeowner association nazi's to deal with !!! =)

I wonder why that is. Dosn't seem intuitive that would be the case. TM is a much smaller carrier, with much less coverage. I can't imagine (of course maybe I'm short on imagination) that there are more people on the TM version than the Captivate.
I too am impatient. But the impatience is for the GPS Fix.
Gunny...I'm with you. Seems many people just try to take everything the wrong way. Of course, the fact is, writing things and having them read, the reader doesn't know what your mood is, and it is a fact that if it can be taken wrong, it will be by some.
If I had the time to invest, I'd get into the ROMs. In fact I started to get into DEV. Downloaded the tools, did a couple weeks playing. But my programming has never expanded to Java, and the learning curve is too large, so I guess I won't. I'd enjoy it, but being at the computer all the time is not how I want to spend my time. I already spend a lot of time on it.
Regarding the DEVs, I appreciate them, and enjoy their work, and contribute occasionally to those I tend to utilize and keep using. But that doesn't diminish my right to be impatient. All customers are, no?
I want the GPS fix. All Galaxy S phones come with a nonfunctioning GPS. Froyo will be great to have also but they need hurry up with the GPS. The Droid X and all Motorola Android phones have an awesome GPS out of the box. I'm hoping Samsung gets it together otherwise they're not worth buying if it lacks a feature that most phones nowadays have. This problem from Samsung shows they rush things out to fast and then once they're out they fail to repair phones currently released.
I'll be eating my words if an update gets released within a week though.

From what I have read about Dev's and Tmobile is mainly because Tmob was the first to have Android. Lots of them are familiar from being already on Tmob. But that is just what I have read, does not necessarily make it correct. The dev's for the Captivate are doing a phenomenal job getting us great products.
Highlighted portion: Joking aside since I know you are, if people are impatient they really should start learning how to do this stuff. The intent of the thread missed the mark based on how it was written. We all want more ROM's or theme's or launchers etc...and they are coming but nobody has any say to be impatient when the majority of these dev's do these on a donation basis. How bad would it suck when people continue to feel impatient and the dev's decide to not dev anymore?

I'm not sure there are a lot of expectations here to be let down. We know that in most cases you probably wouldn't be able to offer us beta, or even alpha firmware and software to develop with or on. RC firmware and software would be just as much out of the question so we're down to what is already out, or something that is leaked by people friendly to the development communities that take the chance of getting in to a lot of trouble. So I don't really know what you have to offer yet. I am curious to find out, though.
Dear john, you have sparked a lot of interest, we are drooling at the mouth do you have any gingerbread for us, or dare I speak of honeycomb? ;-)

"IF" this where to happen it would be a good thing for both samsung and xda for the simple fact that it would help us make better mods for the samsung community and would allow samsung to release things that are more open to modding and customizations that all of us around here love and enjoy making (or in my case learning to make)...hope all goes well with this.
I am a dubious person and do not have expectations as I am still uncertain as to your intentions and more importantly you identity.
But if all is as you say I would take back to the powers that be, many are obviously unhappy with having to run outdated software in the form of the OS on what was at the time of purchase cutting edge hardware.
Give us a option. Give us a way to open the phone up and flash a AOSP option. A more Nexus-ish approach would be fantastic.
The Mainstream will have what they require in a stock configuration and we the ones that know what the potential of the device is can help you in pushing it to its limits.
Well I'm trying to get my post count up so I can comment in development. Anywho kudos to samsung.

Honeycomb is made for tablets so I don't think that really helps us. And I highly doubt Samsung is going to release Gingerbread directly to XDA if at all.

maybe samsung will use us for testing and maybe some tweaking...that would give us a chance to develop on it before its officially released and we would just plain out have it early, cause if you give the devs here like 2 weeks with just about anything it will be fully modded and running to its full potential!!!

Hopefully their next approach works out better, they should have known better than to open a topic up to the entire forum
They should probably have moderator's from each device take questions from their users, then they could collaborate and get only the good questions answered. (and you wouldn't have to deal with trolls/flames/etc.)

I suppose the question *since we can't ask specifics* is....
What can you do to help us and or what tools can you provide to the DEVs to help us get every bit of Awesome out of the device that we can.
Put the ball in your court.
Glad THIS thread is still open...
(Does SamsungJohn know how forums work?!?)
ANYhoo... I'm a give 'em enough rope to hang themselves kinda guy and I've actually been recommending the Mesmerize & Fascinate to friends that need new phones based solely on the great XDA community and what they can get those phones to do using only a bread tie, three pennies, and a jar of Cheez Wiz. Kudos to the devs once again!
I had no delusions that Samsung was a great manufacturer... my TV and DVD/home theater unit have had their share of problems... and I was also aware of the OS update delays in other product lines before I got my phone so that wasn't a big surprise either. BUT, I got in on the free phone thing through USCC and (if I EVER get my $80 rebate) I'll still consider being a Mesmerize owner/user a WIN.
What I see here is a classic example of a company that has the OBVIOUS solution within their grasp and they are actively choosing to find an alternative to it that will provide them SHORT TERM monetary gains. They have set themselves up for failure and they have only themselves to blame. Here's a vocabulary lesson for SamsungJohn et al... crowdsourcing
Guys if you haven't read through it, that topic was closed by a moderator because it was an experiment that failed miserably. (because the general XDA population isn't very good at reading and following instruction, and it turned into a huge flamefest.)
John has been confirmed by several sources to be who he says he is (at least works for samsung) and is here working with the XDA administration to (in an organized way) swap feedback with the developing community (on all samsung products).
On a side note Supercurio has been in correspondence with Korean Samsung and has been also pushing for this very thing to happen, but from what I've read i'ts pure coincidence that John arrived when he did.
Anyway, sounds to me like we need to be patient as information IS coming as soon as they figure out the best way to go about this whole thing. This is how I've taken things from what I've read today, don't quote me....

In all fairness Crowdsourceing is what the whole AOSP is about. Android was and is developed to be Open Source. So if a company is reaching out to the community it can't be all bad.
I just think that for the most part a lot of us here are end users.
While I am sure that others like me want to, and strive to learn more, we simply will not be on a par with the current crop of DEVs as they progress as well.
I think the idea of a couple DEVs from each of the respective forums of the variations of the SGS platforms being in contact is a smart idea.
Dcows, Phidelt, and of course JT and many of the OPs in the Samsung Fascinate IRC channel would be obvious choices.
In fact a meeting of the minds in a channel of choice with only participants having voice would be nice as well.
I do understand and hope that SamsungJohn does know as well that most here are simply end users and just wanna know when we will get xxx or yyy ..
I will now go back to my corner get my Java Text out and see if I can learn, learn, learn....
If samsung really wants to get in good with the developement community, they would be wise to make it entirely official, and go to engadget or someone with a press release. If you want to gain our trust, give everyone the AOSP build.
Do I want sammy to be community-minded? Absolutely.
Am I going to trust one guy who says he works for our manufacturer? Well, let's get to the root of that. Do I trust the company who created out hardware? Not at all.

Yeah I frequent the irc with those guys and we're always willing to help people... I think a lot of people come to forums just to get help and information rather than to develop and theme and stuff like we do. It would probably be more beneficial for Samsungjohn to maybe set up a date on the irc and say like "I will be on from x time to y time" and then people can get on and ask questions and talk about things, and more of the power users who use the irc regularly will get a chance to maybe learn some stuff or help out Samsung.
It would also make it much easier to control, if things get out of hand then the OPs can simply kick or ban the culprits.

Does this mean we will have honeycomb soon or do we still need the drivers from nvidia?
You still need a boot.img. Just so you know people have had access to the xoom for more than a week already and have been working on this.
Thanks, but based on the early indications this fingerprint will actually cause the market to shrink rather than expand. It is interesting to read though as it specifically states nosdcard, and does include the telephony stuff, if nothing else there is potential that once we have a honeycomb port 3G usb modem drivers may become available.
I just posted this so we could take a look at what was in it... it is a good read if nothing else ;-)

I would have thanked you but I've exceeded my max per didn't know there was a maximum. You learn something new everyday.
Anyways, it's also my understanding that to get the boot.img, the Xoom will need to be rooted. Is that correct? So, is that what we should be really looking for? Xoom has been rooted threads?
Look for "Rom based on Honeycomb". And yes it needs root. It will happen people. Posting endless honeycomb threads is not gonna make it any faster.
Ok I'm kind of a noob, please don't slam me 'frog. Since the whole purpose of Android and the whole Open Source thing is to make source available, don't either Motorola, nVidia or Google NEED to release this Honeycomb-Tegra 2 code at some point. I do realize that there may be proprietary pieces but I thought once you used open source code, you were obliged to release your resulting code to the community. Am I missing something here or is all this chatter just an attempt to get it faster?
I hate seeing all of the teaser threads as well, but I also try to keep an open mind and view it more as humorous than obnoxious. I'm sure the real dev's are quite adept at skipping and ignoring the stupid comments by people like me.

Lol. I shouldn't have posted the last two sentences. It's not like I was saying that I was being impatient. Just wanted to learn that's all.
I'm assuming we'll see a lot of the bits and pieces of the XOOM system posted in here and just wanted to know what's relevant or not.
Thanks again.
Its all good. I understand people wanna learn.
Yes they have to release anything that is open source but if you use linux you can use the nvidea and ati example. They don't release their proprietary libs for their cards and as a result its quite likely when you upgrade your kernel you break your video drivers. Its not so bad now but a couple years ago I couldnt keep an ati card working.
All the endless threads that are repeats make it nearly impossible for noobs to find good information and it makes it harder for me to link the correct posts for noobs to follow. Everyone was new at one time but you will never learn anything if you keep asking and not looking. This is a developer forum....xda DEVELOPERS.... not a customer service forum. Most devs here go out of their way to answer questions as do a few of us power users. My tirades are not directed at people like the 2 previous posts. Its the ones that dont want help. They want someone to hold there hand and type out each and every command for them and supply them a fix for every problem. And they want it now

Typically one week is the lead time afforded the trail blazing device for each generation of Android, and then the plain vanilla source AOSP is posted at source.android.com (read about git first, where the kernel is posted). However none of the proprietary information in specific devices needs to be made available right away.
Will th devs that made the honeynook sdk preview be able to update that if they get a Xoom, amd in turn would that help the g tab devs?
I'm just curious about how much of a problem the fact that the XOOM has a Gig of system ram rather than 512 megs will be. I could see an easy way to protect some exclusivity under the guise of "ensuring compatibility" where one of the first boot steps is to check for enough available ram...
Good thing my Zpad has 1 gig ram then eh

It's a Xoom boot.img, and the (tegra 2) kernel source for honeycomb (2.6.36).
Ok, per Engadget Xoom has been rooted... Next?
Here are the init files as well: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11615922&postcount=9
You can get a rooted boot image here: http://www.koushikdutta.com/2011/02/motorola-xoom-rooted.html

The Nook is so heavily supported because it's so god damn cheap for a tablet. (it's really an "e-reader")
there was no touch interface released with the version of honeycomb from the preview sdk.
With a real Honeycomb product (and full SDK) full development is possible.
If you wait, They will build it, we will come. =]

Beta honeycomb port for Gtablet available.

There is a semi working port of honeycomb for the g-tablet available from the below link. I looked through the threads and could find no mention of this.

You need to look harder.
The thing is, because its not being developed/released on xda its not mentioned in the Development section.
sorry - It makes sense that this is not in the dev thread
It makes sense that this is not in the dev thread but it is big news and I skim for new post every day in the dev section and did not see any. Sorry I wish I could delete this post.

I'm curious about this since the project obviously IS development, but is being moved to General every time a thread references it.
Is this happening because Roebeet is now, for some reason no one has shared, persona non grata around here?
I mean, I guess it makes sense if he is no longer part of the XDA "family" but it still seems kind of silly.
I believe it is because the DEVELOPMENT is happening elsewhere.

It's not that at all..
Development is for the actual development of something and by the developer of that something, not the discussion of things being developed elsewhere regardless of who is developing it.
A good example.....CM7, the primary source tree for all Gingerbread built ROMs on the Gtablet is discussed in General as well because CyanogenMod is not posting their development and issues....it's others just talking about it.
The easiest way to think of it is that the development forum section is for a developer to post on their work and get feedback.
If it's not your work and you aren't doing the "developing" on it.....post it in General.
This really makes me want to punch whoever that drove roebeet away. Seriously, the guy is as dedicated as you can expect any dev who's doing this out of pure hobbyist enthusiasm.
The guy actually spent his valuable time to give us honeycream. Whoever that accused roebeet of any ill intention and effectively drove him away, shame on you. You should go and buy an ipad and leave us gtabbers alone.
When you think about it viewsonic made this all possible by releasing the 1.2 bl. In the end they have given us honey creams...
The honey comb port is from another device that uses a compatible or similar bl.
Roebeet is simply ironing out the gtab specific bugs. But therew are numerous bugs, so his work is much appreciated.
I definitely hate following the development on an outside site from xda. Because I love this community. But it is what it is.

Really Jerdog?
I think you take this too far. Just being a jerk now.
I guess you will be removing all links to CM7 huh? Isn't that another tablet/phone/forum site? Those DEV's don't post/host their projects here.
I've never really taken sides in this little spat, but I think this is childish.
It's not like this is just one of many CM7 derivatives. It's the only bootable HC image I know of for the G-tab at this moment. Whatever flaws, issues, malfunctions it may have, many in these forums would like to play around.
This is an amazing rom for an alpha!

Don't worry its all over the General section right now
XDA is merely reaping what some of its members/mods have planted (see: roebeet vs. XDA regarding 1.2 bl), and the more they continue to make a big issue about it the more the members will be trafficking and directing others traffic outside XDA.

Thats not the issue here (IMHO), the thing is , everyone who wants to try this ROM needs to load 1.2bl, this just proves that 1.2bl was the way to go (as suggested a month or two ago). The 1.1 <-> 1.2 switch just to try honeycomb will drive many users (at one point or another) to keep using the semi-backed, still alpha, HC release to avoid the overhead of the switch (especially given the rate of advances made in the HC port and bricking risk involved in jumping back and forth). Now all the current ROM developers (in clear contradiction to what XDA advocated) will need to either release 1.2 compatible ROMs or risk loss of interest.

I originally thought that they didn't want to do this becuase they will then have wasted all that time on the 1.1 Roms that are still in development...but then something dawned on me. Roebeet was able to port 3 existing Roms, all that he worked on, to 1.2. One based on TNT lite, one based on Gadam, and one (and probably best Rom I've ever used) based on Vegan. Keep in mind, he had all 3 of these up and running in about 2 days. He's actually been working on all of those, the HC port, and general 1.2 tools all at the same time. He's created direct and simple processes to flash to 1.2, a revised CWM for it, has Pershoot and Clemsyn on board with kernels.
Call me a fanboi, etc...but the man has really put in some major time on the 1.2 projects.

The whole 1.1/1.2 bootloader thing is stupid and melodramatic. There is little difference, and no real reason to use one vs the other. As builds from Malata get released, this will likely be a non-issue. sooner or later a 'standard' will emerge. Time takes care of this.
As for this 'overhead' between switching, its a fairly simple process to nvFlash. I think we forget that this is an enthusiasts and developers site. There are plenty of threads/articles explaining how to do it. This ain't Viewsonic Tech support. If you can't read these threads and learn how to do this, you really shouldn't be toying with the firmware to start with.

At the moment there is a few good reasons to use 1.2. The main one is HoneyComb . But it has been found that the 1.2 for the Adam is interchangeable with our 1.2. The adam developers have said they are working on a gingerbread release which means that 1.2 will be the way to get acceleration on a gingerbread rom.
Sure at the moment, if you don't feel like playing around with Honeycomb which is only partially working (I can't believe how much progress has been made in the last 2 days), there is no real reason to switch today. But, it looks like the best of what will come out in the near future is on 1.2 which can only be found on a different web site currently.

[Q] Lollipop? Is anyone looking to develop a custom Rom for the Xoom?

I know our Xoom is getting a bit long in the tooth, but it still is one of the finest equipped pieces of hardware out there. I've been using the Omnirom 4.4.4 iteration for many months now, and love it.
How many tablets can you name that have external sdcard,HDMI, and USB capability besides the normative features most tablets have.
I think the Xoom might just might have a very good future with the next iteration of Android, Lollipop. I'd love to be able to
work on this, but if I did it, I'd have to find someone who would loan me a Xoom they have laying around unused for an extended period of time.
I don't know, but the more I think of it the more excited I become.
That's not how it works...... You are a user not a developer.... I will see what can be done when sources come out but no this is a scam! Why get a Xoom if you already have one? From a account with no rom threads started

Wasn't a scam Cameron. I have 1 Xoom that is my primary computing device with anything having to do with mobile devices. I will not have it's useability compromised.
By the way, long ago I wrote code for the Atari ST, STacy and Falcon. In the last few hours I have been able to get a second Xoom from a friend locally (he's not using it, and thought it was bricked-It wasn't, just needed help-I've got working) once I get my friend's Xoom up to speed and brush up on my coding skills I should be able to help.
Honestly, I'm 74 years old and just tired and busy enough that I'd rather not take away from my limited time to become a developer again. At this time I'd like to just be a user and return my friend's fully working Xoom to him
Cameron, It seemed like most of the developers had just gone into hiding and I was hoping to generate interest from the community..
You don't know me, or really know much about me. If you did, you'd know that I wasn't attempting to scam anyone. In fact, saying that my goal was to scam is almost criminal and libelous, but I'm not one to easily take take offense.
Just please don't do a rush to judgement again. Once you make such statements they aren't easily retracted.
I look forward to hearing from you soon. Your friend,
Rob

Thanks for the vote of confidence my friend. The Lollipop Software Development Kit (SDK) is out there. I think that I'm going to hide and watch(though I am available at any time) as far as development is concerned. There are many of us who need help, including me from time to time. I'll go back to helping when I can.
Blessings to all,

Since being on IOS since 2011 I haven't used this account ; I got on here to say thank you; you are an inspiration for the ages. As our knowledge and experience becomes "mature" it's good to see that young or wise by years; we can all work together.
By the way,
I do have a second Xoom of my own not, and am running Omnirom 5.1.1 Alpha on it. At the moment, I'm looking to see what it can, and can't do. I hope to be able to help Schischu develop this into a stable, and very complete Rom now. Even so, this alpha is very polished, fast, and smooth.
I think we're gonna love it.
Blessings,
Rob
