Why don't You try contact with Toshiba UK ? They seem to be very kind . I got back cover for free from Them. Maybe They will be able to repair it ?

thanks but it is a second hand phone out of contract with a non official rom so I doubt very much they would be interested

Of course I do not think they would do it for free but they have skills and possibilities to do it at all. I do not think they need any contract. I bought my tg01 on ebay without warranty, in box. Toshiba UK wanted only IMEI number of my phone to send me new back cover. What for ? I do not know but I suspect so that to be sure the phone is for UK market.
What concerns ROM, You may write official one. It is not so difficult to charge battery externally, write official rom in external SD reader and change the rom.

Bad ROM update: is my Tornado dead?

Greetings... It's been only two days since I've bought my HTC Tornado (T-Mobile SDA). After unlocking it, I tried uploading different ROMs (i-mate SP5m, Cingular 2125, etc), just to find the one that suits me. Anyway, I found this T-Mobile SDA II ROM and without a second thought, I uploaded it to my phone. I didn't realize than this ROM was for the HTC Hurricane. After the "successful" upload, the phone went off! Now it does not boot at all, the battery does not seem to charge, I'm not even able to launch the three-colour bootloader screen (camera button + usb plug).
Can I upload a new ROM? Is there a way to recover my phone?
If the flashing stated it was successful then it should be. Try other fully charged battery.
Thank you for your quick answer. The battery was fully charged when I flashed the phone. Unfortunately, I found out that the "bad" ROM that I uploaded was for the HTC Hurricane phone!!! Is there anything I can do right now? Is it recoverable?
you *might* be able to recover with a SD card image, not sure
just connect your phone to the computer, turn it on, and immediately run a PROPER rom update for it, you might be able to get it back.
i did the same with a tornado rom on a SP3i (typhoon) and managed to get it back after a few tries
good luck
The problem is that I cannot turn my phone on. The phone seems completly dead. Just like having no battery installed (which btw is fully charged). I can't get to the bootloader (RGB) screen. Is it possible to use a SD card image? If I won't be able to update the rom, do you know if the HTC support can do it or should I throw my phone away?
dead is dead!
if the phone is under warranty , it should be no problem to get new one!
I didn't know that Hurricane can stop a Tornado ..well maybe it was just the end, and yes, if it still has warranty, use it.
Please observe Silence for 2 mins.

this is exactly why i get the jitters everytime i flash my phone... i'd rather do a hard reset. i'll only flash ONLY if it comes to it, when it comes to it; and if there's a new rom worth it (like the wm6 rom the geniuses are making here... can't wait 'til the 'alpha' comes out ^_^)

don't take it as a joke, and if i send to HTC?
Who's joking?
If that is the case, you might need to change the corrupted ROM chip, and usually they will change the whole mainboard, which is very expensive, not worth to repair
They asked about 600€ for the repaid, so I bought a new one (380€) and sold the broken one for spare parts.
600 EUROS for repair ? In my country, that is 4200 bucks, enough to buy a brand new O2 XDA FLAME.
A new one for 380 EURO ? You can get HTC Hermes with that amount in my country,
The repair cost in my country will definitely be lower than 100€, why not send it to me via courier, and see how much would HTC repair it here
yeah, sell it for parts and save up for the htc advantage ^_^

I read here: http://wiki.modaco.com/index.php/HTC_Tanager
OMAP5910 datasheet: http://focus.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/omap5910.pdf
Tornado have a 10 pin jtag connector!!!
You can find it possibly the jtag points with this software, http://www.c3a.de/wiki/index.php/JTAG_Finder
and with this hardware: http://www.xilinx.com/support/programr/jtag_cable.pdf
You must find TRST, TDI, TCK, and TRST must pull up VDD with ~200R resistor.
Good luck!
Great info, Dibi. Thanks!!! Although I have sold my "brick" for parts, many unlucky guys will find this information useful to revive their phones.

[Q] HTC ChaCha replacing digitizer. Help!

Hi i just buy an htc status (chacha) brand new for $270, but digitizer has dead zones, i can't use the back soft key and some parts of the screen. My very big problem, I'm from Ecuador here theres not tech support for htc, i call htc and only solution was to send the phone to USA (my warranty is valid thru oct. 2012), but i already pay for the unlock code and the importing fees (almost $80), so send it back to USA and bring it back again to Ecuador will be around $130 more at least. So this phone will cost me around $480! My only solution is to replace the digitizer by myself, i try to search some disassembly video but i can't find any. Anyone has take apart this model of htc? plz I'm desperate. Hope some suggestion or if you have some service manual will appreciate.
Thanks a lot...
this is to new model, so it will be hard to find videos and parts. I think, you need to look some cheap or for spare chacha on auctions and do from 2 phones one working.
Well i find the digitizer in ebay, but no luck with the manual or video

I understand your problem and realise you need to do something yourself - however I have been repairing screens all my life and HTC are the hardest. The HTC CHACHA is a delicate phone - yes you can replace the digitizer but this is a long and troublesome path you are taking.
The best way I would recommend is check if Ecuador has any mobile repair shops and get them to do it (but go in person - no posting). If you can't find one that can fix within your range - SENDING TO THE U.S.A IS THE ONLY WAY (UNLESS YOU ASK HTC IF YOU CAN SEND IT TO A CLOSER SUPPORTED COUNTRY).
If you are to attempt it yourself expect no tutorials for another five months or so and even then it's too dangerous.
Thanks for the advice, you right htc is hard to fix. But i have good news the digitizer is working, i dont know what happen, maybe was the charger, do you think was that? I used one from motorola and one from samsung, but since the phone drains the batery i full charge with the cable supplied by htc now this thing is working again. I never will use other charger. Again thanks

[Q] USB no detection Club

I've read so many posts about USB woes and no PC detection. So now I'm officially a member of the My PC wont recognize my Infuse anymore club. I've tried so many cables, PCs, laptops in many combinations and nothing. Often the phone wont even alert me that I am connected via USB.
So my thoughts are that I troubleshot this to the best of my abilities. Cleaned the port, contacts points etc and still nothing.
I got my phone in August of 2011. And of course I have a great custom ROM running on it now and I cant return to stock!!!
Oh and add to that I have issues with SIM Card detection errors, lost contacts randomly and crappy sound during calls on occasion.
So here is the question...Who do I call ATT or Samsung??? And do I tell them its rooted and running a custom ROM or not admit it (will they find out). Will this cause me to not have any warranty support?
Should I just count my loss at this point and get a new phone out of pocket maybe upgrade to a newer phone... Gxy note, Skyrocket, HTC one X or S3???? unlocked on ebay or ???
Really at a crossing point here and unsure of next steps. Be gentle on me folks this aint easy to fess up on my lack of repair, warranty, return process skills!
Maybe I should just ask Who do I call for warranty support?
The local AT&T store suggested that I call Samsung as they never heard of USB port problems.

Go to an att store and ask where there nearest exchange center is. Then simply tell them what's wrong. If your scared if they will deny you because of the rom, then just brick it by flashing random crap to get no recovery, then they can not really tell unless if you were on gingerbread bootloaders (even then most employees dont get what the numbers mean). Make sure if you want back up all the data to the cloud or use bluetooth to connect your phone and computer to transfer data over. Remember to act stupid like you don't know what happened and you never heard of odin and such.

No problem. Happened to me too... except i wanted the data off it and i completely bricked it, so i headed over to mobiletechvideos and he figured out my usb was broken. He tried exchanging the usb hub and it did not work. Another user found that somehow the voltage was screwed up and running the wrong way, that is probably the cause. I think i was the first person to have this happen to me, it was late last year. Anyway do not take to sammy, they would probably turn you down, they have gotten pretty tough with devices lately, unless if you reset the bootloader. With this experince from sammy, im very tempted to go with the one x for my next phone. Installing custom roms are a pain on that thing, but then again it actually works a lot better the first time around, instead of installing a custom rom.
Yes the One X is very much in my eyes. And I hear you in out of the box performance rather than the need for custom Roms!
I'm hoping that I can convince AT&T to allow me to move up even though my contact ends next year, i've been a customer seems like forever.
Thanks again for the information on mobiletechvideos!!
Dunno about you but I've seen like 3 people post about it ever... And there is always two answers; either your phone's port is broken or you need to learn how to flash ROMs.

Well, since I know how to flash roms and there are several with this issue not just three as you suggest, I'd rule in favor of it being an inoperative port.
The original question was inquiring for return/warranty recommendations and not to solicite judgments of ability or lack thereof.

Thanks for the exchange center suggestion. I went to a different store (device support) and they were fully aware of the USB port issues on many Samsung devices. They, without hesitation gave me an exchange and tested it before I left to ensure all was ok.

That's a tough one for me to answer. My wife has the HTC One X and loves it. I can't say it could replace a tablet. Maybe the SS Note?

Since i bought this phone on ebay will i be able to go to att for a replacement if i am on an att prepaid account. what are the chances of fixing this by replacing the usb port as i have read about users not being able to get it fixed after doing this.
as for now i have resorted to an external charger. it works but a solution to fixing the usb would be much appreciated

I removed everything that I could and when I returned it. They tried to upload a stock rom and it would not connect at all on their set.
All they were concerned about was the moisture indicator for water damage and physical damage-cracks battery contacts etc. I really played dumb as heck and asked dumb questions.
The tech told me he didn't care about custom roms since in fact the issue was a known problem with the USB port and that was what they were replacing it for.

Galaxy reboots itself

Hi All
Received my SH-G920I (unlocked) and for the last 2 days I faced three occasional reboots.
Once it was when phone was idle, then when I try to unlock it and once it was in the middle of web browsing.
It looks like "fast" reboot, when only "Samsung" logo displayed briefly and phone is quickly coming back to working mode. Sometimes after such reboot screen and soft buttons aren't responding and I have to turn it off/on with power button. Them it back to normal
Any ides what is it?
Thank you.
My G920i (got it from eBay) is doing the same thing...hope it's not a hardware issue...

Yes, my from eBay as well. For last 24 hours it worked without reboots. Not sure how promising this might be....
Bought a G920I from ebay myself, arrived yesterday. So far noticed :
- 2 soft reboots (really dim Samsung boot animation, then fine)
- CONSTANTLY reboots on mains charger all night (annoying as it was lighting up in middle of night)
- Reboots on wireless charger constantly (standard Qi cheap one - not sure about officiall)
I have not rooted my phone, it's completely stock.
Is this just the G920I or are other people having problems? I am thinking of returning it for the G920F model.
Better to replace it.

Who was your seller one Bay? Maybe it is the problem of specific shop/batch.
I have the same problem with a SH-G920F
My god! I started a new thread about this without finding this first. I bought my 920i from the same seller and am facing the same problem! So any idea if this is a batch issue or general issue that quite a few are facing? I have asked for a refund and hope that I am not charged a restocking fee , which in this case is 20% which is too much.
I sent request to Samsung support so they advise if this is hardware issue and we should replace the device or software one that can be mitigated.

Please keep us posted ! I think this could be a software issue
On top of the random "soft boot" my S6 has has an issue with the SIM tray not sitting completely flush with the frame. The top portion (the section where you can insert the ejection pin) tends to stick out a little bit (about 0.1 or 0.2mm). I have had quite a few phones with similar designs (iPhone 6+, M8, M9) and this is the first time I run into this kind of issue. I am starting to think this particular batch has a bad QC or something. I message the eBay seller yesterday asking for a return/refund but have not hear back from them yet. A little bit frustrating to say the least.
So you are facing soft boot issues and sim card tray issues? That sucks. I heard back from the seller and he asked me if I wanted an exchange or refund. I have asked for a refund and am expecting RMA any time today. Seller has also increased the price to 839 now.
Yea, it definitely sucked. How did you contact the seller on eBay, did you just asked him a general question or you used the specific "return" link? I think I can going to request a refund too as this point. I was trying to be nice by avoiding the use of the "requesting a refund" link as I think it count against the seller but they are not replying to the question I initiated yesterday at all.
Thanks,

Honestly I really like the phone alot and would've most likely kept it if not for the raised SIM Tray. The random soft boot really didn't bother me as much as the physical SIM tray issue.... I liked how this int'l version can change the APN settings for you depends on what SIM card you are using (I tried both T-Mo and AT&T) which I know the AT&T version will not even I get it unlocked. But then the AT&T model is built in Korea verses the int'l version which is built in Vietnam. Not sure if is correlated but T-Mobile's version is also built in Vietnam and there seems to be quite a bit of issues with that batch too.

Don't you see anything unethical in what you propose?
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
I don't know to me it's unethical to dispose of a good gaming tablet. They are still vague on whether you need to send it back. For example I received an email last night saying that I would receive mine today and that they were going to instruct me on how to dispose of it.
I don't need to be given a lecture on morals just knowledge thanks you.
People have started receiving their replacement and yes, you do have to send the old one back.
And it IS unethical of you to keep the old tablet. Just because the old tablet gets disabled doesn't mean they won't be able to salvage internal parts for refurbishing like any other company that refurbishes devices. You paid for one tablet and Nvidia is spending a ton of money to lend a hand and replace defective units free of charge and without requiring a credit card hold (I just had to do that for HTC) and you still want to take the whole arm? That's very selfish and this is why we can't have nice things.

you dont have to send it back. it varies per region...i just got my replacement one today and the flyer in the box says that i should take care of the disposal/scrapping. no return label, no request to send it somewhere...nothing. period.
so, i dont feel like doing anything unethical by keeping it...just accepting the risk of the battery exploding...

Yeah he sure lectured me by just informing us that we either dispose it ourselves or Nvidia does. (this is taken from the same post he's referring to)
There are opinions to respect but the morally wrong ones, I will not respect. That is all I'm saying.
Anyways, better not turn on that new tablet until someone figures it out, if anyone does.
I was not trying to lecture anyone sorry everyone took it the wrong way. I just wanted to give people information on the situation.
So shorty88 are you going to keep yours too?
Unless Nvidia specifically says we have to send it back I am keeping mine
Hey. I got my tablet today. I got the yellow paper saying I will get a box to return the old one. They actually put that paper in there twice. Anyways, my old tablet is currently running BlissPop Rom and after setting up my new tablet, I was waiting for the old one to shut off or something but nothing has happened. Not sure if it's because it's on a different rom but I basically have the 2 tablets running side by side. I even wiped it and it still works. So there you go.
I'll probably return it or keep it for spare parts but I don't trust the battery.

I'd be very concerned if they could remotely force an OTA on a device not even running an Nvidia ROM...

Not possible for nvidia to push any updates to a non-stock ROM.

Obviously. I'm saying I'd be very concerned if they could remotely cause the tablet to brick via OTA on a non-Stock ROM as that would require a very deep level of privacy intrusion.

No concern necessary. Android requires permissions for those types of operations. No one making a custom rom would include such a thing.

I know that. Again, I'm saying I'd be pretty hypothetically concerned if it were possible for Nvidia to remotely force an OTA on a custom ROM. I know that wouldn't happen...
Ok, let's just dial this back a bit. Here in Canada, you do not have to return the old tablet. I will be keeping mine for parts. Although I would also like to order a replacement battery and swap it out. In this scenario, it is 100% safe to keep using the tablet. So, in the event that you no longer have a suspect battery, how would a person avoid the kill switch?

Have you tried searching the General forum? [hint: what you're looking for should be pretty obvious]
