You obtained approval from the creators to upload these without permission I assume? Or are they all under a 'open' license?
edit: and yea, it's just an unzipped ROM's dumped /system/app directory uploaded to mediafire.
edit2: looks like CM6 perhaps? I also see Facebook... Amazon MP3, etc

sorry guys. i had this in the dev section for a guy who needed them and they moved it

You posted this orginally in DEVELOPMENT !?!?! You may want to stop doing this posting others work with no credit crap. This is the third thread you posted of others work with no credit and lame excuses. Read the forum rules, you are clearly violating them. People really do get banned for this stuff. If you are tryin to send something to "a guy" you shouldn't say "for those of you who can use them" that implies a broader intent, and if it really was a favor to "a guy" then figure out how to use the PM feature. Please stop clogging the boards with stuff you didn't make, stuff that any member can get EASILY, stuff that an actual dev worked hard on. If you ever actually develop something feel free to post it, but leave other peoples stuff in their own threads. And please learn how to post in the CORRECT section.

Cooked ROM (Hey JimmyMcGee)

I have a new TILT from ATT, US. I was hoping someone could provide advise on a lighter ROM (one without the ATT crap everywhere) that I could use. Also, if I do so, can I revert back to the stock AT if I need to?
Three Words:
Wiki
Sticky
Search.
Welcome to XDA.
Thread Closed.
Hey Jimmy McGee...
Why did you close my thread on ROM suggestions? I am so new to this and was referred over to this forum by the owner of another large site that handles other phones. You said: Three words...WIKI, Search, Read or something to that extent...Why? Al I was looking for advice on what I should choose, not instructions on how to install or anything really technical. Instead, why not try helping rather than closing threads...
maybe because there are just so many threads that ask/suggest the exact same thing?
i guess you must find out for yourself.
every rom is different, nobody can tell you if its great or less great. its the same for buying a new car. everybody tells you different things.
think about it, and try some roms. take your time
if you read his response you will answer your own question.
I waited 6+ months before even posting on this site coming from Howard forums strictly because of the name of this site. You could at least respect when a thread is closed to put some thought into it. You should also try to education yourself a little before creating more spam threads. The mods have to sift through enough of it as it is. Where you came from and who sent you is irrelevant.
Thanks da_mafkeez...
that's all I wanted was a suggestion. Isn't that the point of forums? As for the other weenies, I will so try to be a better boy...
Because everyday someone gets their new phone and asks the same questions, its a pain for the mods and members to have to tell people the same things over and over. Check out the wiki and stuff at the top of the page it will give you just about every answer you need. When youve read through it all and still cant find your answer then try starting a thread. It wont drive people as crazy around here.

There is a neat little function in the site called "private message" for something like this. Please do not disrespect the mods and and forum by creating a new thread after yours has been closed.
Ya know what...
if there were as many members responding to my requests for help as there are these, it'd be great...

then we will be just encouraging this kind of behavior
Here's a little friendly advice...
The reason that so many people are reading and replying to this thread is because you are having a go a one of the forum Mods. The Mods on this site are respected by all other members; they uphold the Rules of this site (found here) and ensure the forums are clean and easy to read by everyone:
From the Rule Book said:
1. Check if something hasn't been asked before

If you have problems with a Moderator or the Rules, bring it up with the Mod in question, or another moderator or even one of the Site Admins.
Don't feel insulted by the fact that your thread was closed, and don't make it personal (Rule 8 ). It's not the end of the world.

As i've stated many many time in the forum to noobs who complain that we don't answer their questions...If you asked your questions in the correct manner, and put it in the right place, then you will find the people on this site to be very helpful to you. If you insist that you are above the rules, and choose to disrespect the forum, the mods, and other members then you will not find it to be a welcoming place at all. There are not many rules here, but those who have the knowledge that you seek expect those few rules to be abided by, and as another use said, if we answer your questions when you intentionally didn't put it in the rigth place it only reinforces the belief that the rules don't matter.
chill up dude - we are all one big crazy family here
closing a thread is a tough decision to be made but some times a mod need to take it for the good of everybody
maybe next time if you want to ask specific question or a individual advice (try using Personal Messages), in couple of occasions i sent personal messages to mods asking advice/opinion and they replied me promptly but if i had posted my queries as thread i am sure they will close 'em up...
back to your question - there is no best answer to what is best rom because i will say 50% is personal prefrence and 50% technical details so nobody will know what is best for you expect one person - YOU - cuz u can judge them for ur use and ur prefrence
best wishes bro

I think I feel the hammer coming on!
Does that mean it's "hammer time".
Oh crap, did I just say that. I need sleep
Dave
Dude, AllTheWay has shot me down twice & moved one of my posts. Am I crying about it, NO. He did that because I didn't follow protocol. It was a learning experience for me & probably some other people who saw it happen. I'm not pissed off at him for it. I apologized & thanked him for teaching me something. Your thread was probably shot down because someone else has already asked the same thing at some point. These guys have been here longer than us & know a hell of alot more than we do. If you're still reading this at this point, I should feel pretty inportant for keeping your attention this long. I wouldn't @#$% with the Mods, Admins or Seniors on this site. They know what they are doing, that's why they are where they are!
Well, terrapin69, If I offended you. I'm sorry.
I hope you stick around this is a great place.
Now to answer your question, Why did I close the thread?
I think others have covered it. I respect your opinion. But please respect mine.
It wasn't meant to be curt, but more to be efficient.
Look at the Sticky Roll Up Thread. Read The Wiki, and Of Course Always use search.
Just note, Asking "what Rom is the best" is so subjective that there is no answer.
I have the reasons why. If you want to know most of them, just check out the Rules here.
I appreciate your eagerness. The Kaiser is a great device.

That was actually my first thought when I clicked on this, that somewhere I was going to see AllTheWay's Hammer graphic somewhere in here before long.
To answer terrapin's original question: ROM selection is entirely a matter of personal choice, and there are so many options that the only way to really tell which is best for you is to browse through the ROM threads, read the features of the ROM, look at the screenshots, and if you like what you see, flash it. If you don't like that ROM after flashing, find another one.

[READ ME]Development Forum Etiquette. Help keep our Andriod/XDA devs

While I am in no way a Dev, programmer, grammar expert or anyone of importance, this is my attempt in helping to help XDA/Devs/Android to keep moving forward in the most efficient way possible. As recent events have unraveled it is apparent that XDA, Android, and a flux of Ports & ROMS has boosted the traffic that we are seeing come in and out of XDA. While the traffic is welcomed the absurd amount of "n00bish" post, bickering, and multiple posting is not and that is why I decided to take a stab at making this thread.
Why post this in the Dev forum?
I want this to reflect the fact that in ANY DEVELOPMENT forum there is a different type of etiquette then in any other type of open forum. I've personally learned this from seeing plenty of GREAT Dev's come and go through XDA. Mods please feel free to move or close this is you feel this in inappropriate in the DEV forum.
PROPER DEV FORUM ETIQUETTE:
-READ!!!-
*Read the developers request/post.
*Each and every [ROM] thread I have ever looked into has had a Changelog and inclusion list! READ IT!!! Its usually located on the FIRST or SECOND post in the thread.
*If you are not willing to read through a thread, then search! EVEN BETTER... SEARCH THE THREAD!!!
*If you are following a thread closely enough and see that others are posting or reporting your same issue, CONFIRM and at the least post a LOG
*If you can not keep up on XDA at least follow a developers Twitter. Its a great insight to what is to come. Rather then expanding the crap to filter through in the [ROM] thread, LOOK for updates.
-Remember-
*Not one Dev on here owes any one person anything!!! So dont expect to be entitled to anything such as updates, explanations, and/or anything that you may want or feel should be included in THEIR work!
*By flashing a ROM(or even rooting) on your phone, you are expected by the community that you have some knowledge of what you are doing; Hence you should not be asking or posting "what is adb" or "How do you Flash" type questions. That is NOT development!!! This is REGRESSION for lack of better words.
*DO NOT post ish like "flashing now" .. "downloading" .. "cant wait to flash".
(added by: lexotic_sc300)
*DO NOT post "how is this ROM?... better?... faster?". TRY IT!!! The RA [RECOVERY] can make going from a non hero [ROM] to a Hero [ROM] in a 5 step process(in theroy) and back in one step with the [MOD]swithROM
*Give credit where credit is due!!! If you wanna say "thanks", do it in a constructive way, maybe say it when answering someones n00b question or drop it in your sig: "Thanks to: blah blah", or both
*It is MY observation that Devs do this stuff for just a few reasons: Money, fun, and/or experience.
-Fun- Just cause they are damn good at it and have the extensive ability to do so.
-Money- Not so much just so they get donations, but time is money, they make something worth paying for then they, you, or I would do it if we you could. So if you appreciate what someone has given the community then I am sure they would appreciate any sort of donation.
-*Experience*- The work placed here is NOT for you. It is shared with the community to further development!!! Its placed here to be shown as a physical representation of what a DEV can do. The more success he has, the better it looks to clients or potential employers. That is why CREDIT NEEDS TO BE GIVEN!!!
-Basic Troubleshooting-
*Wipe
*fix_permissions
*post log
*reformat partition
(If you did not take these steps then you have not tried to fix your problem and you should not make a post till you have tried at least one if not all steps.)
*A Force Close (FC) is when you DO NOT have a "wait" option. These are the "bugs" that Dev's need to be reported to respective location. An Android Not Responding (ANR) DOES have the "wait" option and is probably not due to the [ROM] but apps and/or permissions (someone correct me if I am wrong)
-From Members to Members-
*RESPECT each other!
*Be constructive in your posting. If you are not posting an ANSWER or if you are BEING NEGATIVE towards another member, you are virtually spamming the thread that you are trying to keep clean. The least you could do is point the person in the right direction. Refusing to help at all while berating them for doing it wrong accomplishes nothing besides further clogging up the forum with threads bumped with useless posts.
(added by: loccy, commander)
*Do not Fanboy or spam a DEVs[ROM] thread with another DEVs[ROM]. Keep the respective info in its respective thread.
(added by: HiRoots)
-From Members to DEVs-
*DO NOT "ROM whore"! If its not your work then give credit. You and the other DEVs will know if what you are releasing is a [MOD] or [ROM].
(added by: r_dub, IConrad, ComplexMinded)
*Please make sure your first (and second post) are clear for n00bs who will not read this thread. I know you're working hard on building ROMs for us, but FAQ's and n00b instructions will hopefully help!!!
(added by: digitallysick, _Kyros_)
*Please help us help you. If your attitude is poor then your followers/senior members of what you are developing may carry the same attitude. Lead by example.
(added by: IamLugo)
-From DEVs to Members-
*DO NOT be "inclined to help" for you own personal gain
*(any DEVs who would like to get this section going please feel free to post)
**If you have anything to add to this list please feel free to post it and I will update this post** Hopefully this is not done in vain and can help some of the clutter.
Reserved... just in case
Yes thank you this needed to be said well done well written but i would add that making minor changes and reposting a rom does not make it yours nor does it make you a dev like so many people do on xda now days everyone thinks their a dev
Re: Minor tweaks do not a new ROM make. I.e.; if I took the Cyanogen ROM, swap it out for a +mem patched boot.img file, I could not then call it the IConrad01Mod. It would be the CyanogenMod+mem. Not even if I replaced sh with bash by default.
EDIT: Mostly this post is just a "bump" to keep this higher in the ratings so more people see it.
This should be made a sticky thread really should be
Id like to also add to your excellent list
dont post ish like "flashing now" .. "downloading" .. "cant wait to flash"
makes the thread grow too fast and makes it a lot of work for people who do try to follow etiquette and search for the answer before posting
I also agree

Thanks guys... I knew other members would feel the same way.
Like I said in the first sentence, I stated that I have no dev experience and I am pretty much a n00b, but I actually was not aware of "ROM whoring" so we will see if others agree with this and/or their are current devs who feel this would be appropriate to add to the list.

agree to that, and im one of those that says flashing, downloading, cant wait, and i realize myself thats its annoying .
"ROM Whoring" is alive and rampant in the forum. I know that all ROMS have "pieces" of other devs work in them but if 90% of your build went untouched then how can you re-release it under your own name?
We honeslty need to seperate ROMS from MODS of ROMS.. There is a clear difference..
Lets add to that for devs
Make your rom instructions CLEAR , and easy to follow.
Also include screen shots , and don't run all of your links and information together.
If your rom doesn't support specific formats/features please list so.
These things will prevent the same questions and issues being asked again and again
Lets add to that for devs

* Update your initial post to include answers to common questions. Yes, I know, everyone should read the ENTIRE thread, but when that thread is 30 pages deep, people won't.
It really wouldn't be a half-bad idea for the more popular ROMs to solicit people to help support them in a sort of semi-official role.
Great post All~G1, I think that while this thread seems to mainly target Noobs and improper forum etiquette then I can't help but suggest adding something targeted at Devs. All Devs or anyone contributing to the Android Community should (Most do) have precise details on installing whatever your giving to the A.C. and a FAQ's would be nice too, that way we wouldn't have so many tutorials.
I see I'm not alone on this.
I honestly don't see XDA keeping the Dev's with other phones coming out that are not HTC. They will realize HTC is going to be WAY behind and thus having to go to forums like Alldroid.org, android community and forums like that, that cater to ALL Android not Winmo and deal with Android
I wonder if we could have a post# rule implemented (i.e. you need to have x# of posts before you can post in the dev section). If a poster hasn't learned wtf to do in 100 posts and then enters the dev section, they should be banned. lol

here is proof that theory isn't the best one. cyanogen was a "junior" member when he started putting his roms on xda. member status does not equal intelligence level. some one could log onto to xda with an amazing rom with features never before seen, but they couldn't post it in the dev section bc they have no posts, doesn't really make sense.
the mods need to enforcing their 3-day ban on people who post nonsense in the dev section (well any section really) but limiting some ones ability to post based on post count is not a great idea.
just my .01 cents. i am very poor right now, so i can only give away a penny.

Only issue with that is I do not have many post, but I know about as much on flashing, adb as most of you do...you dont need to post to know what your doing, and to have the ability to help others out when/if you see fit.
Agreed david1171, didnt see your post when I made mine..
thank you all~g1 for this posting! i believe it was sorely needed!
ive spent the past two months reading and learning by trial and error so i agree that instructions could be more clear and concise for n00bs like myself...
ive also seen the flaming that goes on for incorrectly posting in the wrong section so ive taken it upon myself(so i dont get flamed!)to post in the q&a forums.the thought that maybe one day i might learn enough to mod/dev on my own is another reason i only post when needed...
also...excellent idea to put in following the devs by twitter! i get blown up with info from their tweets all the time so i mostly know whats coming before they even release! more to than my actual friends i follow! lol!
just my .02 cents...but the search function here on xda could be a little more thorough so as to maybe help keep down traffic.
but overall...this is a great concept! and thanks again!
Me likey this thread. good show!
IMO it should be stickied and kept unlocked (but clean) like the index so peeps can submit constructive ideas
Wow, really while I'm sure we all appreciate this thread and the thought put into but this is pretty much where everyone starts. This the start for most of the Devs here. So maybe we should make a Topic that says Noobs go here first and then have all the stickies including this one. We need better organization but even still we're not gonna be able to stop people posting in the wrong section. We were all noobs once be humble and put yourself in their place.

Bad Forum Ettiquite

I was SO HAPPY when I read the post about "Operation Iron Fist", and SO DISAPPOINTED when I saw the enforcement in action.
Can we PLEASE start issuing 24-48 hour bans for people who break or disregard forum rules?
Example: The VERY FIRST POST in the dev section is titled "If you didn't create "it", then it doesn't belong in Development", and the rest of the post goes on to tell you WHY and WHERE YOU SHOULD POST if you don't meet the criteria for the dev section. A thread like "TEAM TOXIC on GALAXY S 4G" should not have had time to get 9 replies, and the OP should be banned for at least 24 hours for BLATANTLY disregarding the rules.
I saw a thread a couple of days back where a guy was trying to make a place where people could post their WidgetLocker mods/themes. The OP specifically asked people to NOT reply to the thread unless they were posting a theme, but instead they should PM the person with their question and request they update their post with the answer. This thread has AT LEAST 100 ***IDIOTS*** in it asking question after question, making request after request, despite the OPs wishes, and no mod has *ever* done anything about it.
I don't know if "Operation Iron Fist" was a joke or a serious endeavor, but from the looks of things, I'm gonna have to go with the former. People who disregard the rules at their whim -- first time offenders or not, unknowingly or not -- are EXACTLY what is driving devs away from XDA in mass numbers.
I guess what I'm trying to say, here, is; Could we have some ORDER around here? ENFORCE the rules, and start giving people a REASON to follow them...
"Damn, I should have read the rules before I posted that, now I'm banned for a day" -- That guy won't break that rule, again.
"Wow, I just got a warning from a mod because I didn't follow a rule. Oh well" - That guy will break the rules again -- probably including the one he JUST got a warning for.
I've moderated my fair share of forums in my day, and I have to say the **** I see people get away with on here is appalling.
Anyways, that's my two-cents on the subject. I'm pretty frustrated and fed up with having to dig through MOUNTAINS of bull**** to get little tidbits of useful information just because some selfish jackass can't be bothered with reading and following the rules.
Have to agree with you but it is a very big Forum so we cannot read everything that is posted so we need every ones help that way helping us is helping you in the long rum.
As far as the Punishment goes we do have a fair system that includes infractions and bans depending on the crime.
So please if you see anything Report the Post or drop me a pm
Thanks Guys

No. I'm saying that people should be a little more considerate of others, and not clutter up potentially useful threads and forums with unnecessary stuff. I guess I'm also saying that the penalties for it should be a little more harsh and frequent, IMO.
I have to admit, though, I haven't been making much use of the report button, myself, so I haven't been doing my part, either. That changes here
I do think that people should post threads in their proper forum and that mods are doing a good job, you have to remember that they do have lives outside of xda, they can't be here 24/7.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
Yeah, sometimes I kinda lose sight of stuff like that and get a little wound. Thanks for the check, guys
Still pretty frustrated about all the inconsiderate people, though *shrug*

Issues

This is generally a concern from a friend and I will not be responding to any post or pms from this. (from anyone)
"
I have recently noticed that numerous developers have had their pages deleted because of in proper layout.
1st of all this makes sense that it should be in a the proper layout, but.......... big but here, does that mean delete it before they even get a warning. most developers are doing this on their own time and have their own fans to keep happy. Therefore because a simple source or gitcode is not in place right away, doesn't mean it should be deleted right away. Warn the people first, kinda makes the moderators look like their power hungry and also make people not want to be here. There's a fine line between being moderated or just an _____.
2nd not everyone is going to see the rules right away or may easiely forget to add something to it. This does not give it a right for deletion. Also, note there are many other developers that people have noticed that are no way in these rules and are still up? so makes u curious.....
Anyway I'm not bashing anyone on this, I just feel that the admin should start filtering some moderators for that bad ones. Every forum has at least one dud and it completely ruins the site.
As I said before, I will not be responding to anything from this post or pms. If I get banned fro simply posting a concern and not bashing,it just proves this even more. Or if the page gets deleted.
I think it will be good for the forum if you can see some other peoples views on this issue.
Best of luck with everything, with this hopefully positive feedback.

Threads can be removed from site until the OP is updated to work with the rules. Just because users cant see it doesnt mean it was deleted. There is always a warning given before a thread is deleted. As for keeping fans happy. Boy are you in the wrong place. This is no concern here as this is a Developers site made for and by developers to share work with each other.

(This was for my friend who was looking for a nexus 7 thread for hours to only find out it was deleted, not my own words to a degree)

There's also a fine line between coming to this site to contribute and thinking you or your "friend" are above the rules!
Rules are rules and if a moderator thinks a thread should be unapproved or deleted then guess what?....there's most likely a reason for this
Also if you're a developer, an RD then you sure as hell better know the rules by now........I mean, they're clearly posted for everyone to see...lol
Oh and about fans, that shouldn't come into play! Whether you're a lone developer just starting out or have a mob of fanboys.....rules are rules! Just because this developer has 10000000000000 kernels or roms or whatever doesn't mean he should get special treatment. AGAIN......rules are rules and if a developer is not held to those rules then how are you going to enforce them on a junior member?
Another thing, from my experience if I have an issue with a moderator.......contacting the moderator committee is the best route! Going off on the moderator or starting a thread complaining about this or that isn't always best.......it will only lead to more threads being closed down and infractions/bans passed around...lol
JUST MY TWO CENTS.......

Pretty sure this was involving me since its being talked about in that g+ thread I was tagged in a have read.
This "rd" was sent a pm and explained why it was unapproved and couldve easily sent me a pm in response saying opps if U reappove I'll fix it real quick. Instead there was an insulting pm responded with and multiple bashing threads on site and off site yet the thread was still reapproved.
Forgetting something in an op is one thing. But blatantly doing it cause you don't have time or be cause you believe you are good enough to not have to comply with rules is another thing.
The nexus 4 section had multiple kernel devs get the same pm and everyone else complied with little to no fuss and went on their way.
Also this is a developers site so the whole fan thing means absolutely nothing here.

Maybe I need to spend some more time in that section as I decide if I am getting the Nexus or not.
Now As this as run its course, I am gonna close this up.
Oh and on a side note. Had it been me, a ban would have been issued.
