change keyboard color - Droid Incredible Themes and Apps

I am sorry if this has been asked already, the search feature isn't working and keeps telling me to try again in 10 minutes which I waited I think 15 minutes and it still didn't work and gave me the same message.
Anyways, I was wondering if there is a way to change the keyboard colors yourself? I know there is a way to use a site that's been passed around. However, I am curious if there is a way to do it yourself if that makes sense?
If so, where do I find the keyboard stuff so I can edit it? Or how do you go about editing it? I just would like to try and design my own theme if that is possible.
Thanks for any help, I'd appreciate it.

Anyone know of a tutorial or anything? I'm really interested in trying this. I would highly appreciate any information or helpful pointers. Thanks!

Still interested in learning if anyone is willing to point me to some information that I could use to learn how to make my own theme from scratch.

What type of keyboard?

Just wanted to make a theme or whatever for the android keyboard I have on my phone now, the latest gingerbread keyboard.

Since you arent getting much help I would recommend you using the smart keyboard... that is much better than the gingerbread.... and you can use skins with that one too... if you need help getting it just PM me...

Does it run pretty much the same as the gingerbread keyboard? The reason I'm asking is because I am so used to using the standard gingerbread keyboard that I am scared to try a different one, lol

Okay, I am currently running Smart Keyboard, and I have a skin that I have edited, however I am unable to figure out how to get it to show up in the list of skins. I have created a folder named skins on both the internal phone storage and the sd card but I am unable to get it to show up in the list of skins. I am not entirely sure what I am doing wrong. I did leave it as a *.zip file when I placed it into the skins folder on my phone not sure if that is the problem I am doing wrong or if I'm missing a step. I don't know.
Any helpful information with that would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'd you download the gingerbread keyboard from the market one of the available and free ones has skins.

[REQUEST] Theme team / colaboration etc?

OK, so basically im looking for a partner in crime. Im starting to fall behind on everything lately, from school to themes. And the requests just keep coming to my inbox. And currently im barely able to keep up, and soon wont be.
What im really looking for is someone with decent photoshop, etc skillz. I'm OK with cut and paste, hues, gradients, color changing etc. But images from scratch are beyond me. Knowledge of everything else(compiling apks, .9.pngs, xml editing) isnt a must. I can do those if needed, its just the images take up most the time and I could use some help.
Im looking to share all future credit with someone or more. TBD.
Currently on the todo list:
Get swype for more colors.
Finish up themeing the 3-4 apps in the works
really fine tune the images in my main theme
Add more stoke apks to the theme.
Getting my theme to more roms (a few have been tested by other people, but would like to verify myself)
Plus when The good ROMs hit the threads (sapphire team, BB, CM, etc), I want them supported quickly.
and the list goes on and on.......
Get a hold of me one way or another if your interested
I'm interested dawgg!

haha, you see the date on this thread?
And you can see all the people that jumped on board.
I can help with testing. I'm not super great at from scratch image creation. But i understand the xml's fairly well in combination with the decompiling and recompiling.
Lol yeah I see it. I am good at everything you said! Lol.

hey do you still need help?
Also looking for someone who is good at packing things into a MM theme.
I have a swiftkey theme that needs to be built into a mm.
Also once slideit is done (if the xml for key color is found) it will be easier to distribute if its in a MM.

I didnt find anything referencing android color either. If that is found we can take out where is says color=inverse or something like that and put in the hex number. I used to have to do this in pandora and the blur music apk

[REQ] Working AOSP Keyboard for Sense ROMs

Searched around here and found a few posted, but none of them seemed to work. Tired installing through Astro and ADB on Frost ROM. Both times, when changing to Android Keyboard input method and going to type into a text box, I get an immediate FC on the keyboard.
Anyone have a good APK?

In an effort to quickly get you something that is useable, I would point you in the direction of the Droid Multi Touch Keyboards. They are rather similiar in look and feel to the AOSP keyboards.
EDIT: I know this isn't exactly what you are looking for, but it satisfied my need for an AOSP keyboard for the longest time so I figured I would at least share. Hope this helps at least somewhat.

Thanks alot, I was going to give that a shot, but I had the DroidX and I hated that keyboard. But I guess it can't be worse than the HTC keyboard... or can it?
I will give it a try, thanks! Anyone else know of any that work?

Is there a how to on changing your Sense lock to AOSP?

Title pretty much says it all. I've been hopping from mod to mod, theme to theme, framework to framework to get exactly what I want in my phone aesthetically. I'm using this frame right now: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12131447&postcount=37210
The guy who ported was kind enough to point me to this AOSP lock that worked, but didn't quite match what I wanted to accomplish. I'm really looking for this lock, and if not then just a straight up AOSP lock.
As I said, I've tried just about every combo possible but everything takes something away that I want to keep. I tried the how to theme thread, and it was a great resource but only offered advice on how to change the png on HTC's lock; something I'm not particularly interested in.
Is there a howto on how to get this accomplished myself? I've looked everywhere, but I can't find anything. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
You can just use root explorer to rename your HTC lockscreen to something else to get the vanilla lock

Do you know which files get accessed when it reverts back to the lockscreen then? I did what you said, and it basically gave me the same version that I linked to before. Even if I can extract the files and alter them myself, I feel like I'll be accomplishing something. I just don't know where it draws from.

He wasn't trying to be a ****. It's a very flexible and effective way to change your lock to just about anything including a ton of custom locks. Well worth $1.99 to people who want a high degree of customization and control over their lockscreen.
Why not purchase widgetlock? You can switch between aosp lc and lense lc. Just my opinion

First off, I love your work on this. The whole theme is great, and the only reason I keep trying to Frankenstein this one in particular is because I love the black on-screen notifications over that HTC grey. Unfortunately when I replaced frameworks I bootlooped :-/
@the other two previous to this post: I don't want to do that because its unnecessary. I don't need to spend money on a bandaid when I (with the help of others here) can go into the filesystem and do it myself.

[Q] Backed Up System Apps Not Installing

When I got my phone, I rooted the phone without removing or modifying the stock ROM, just used Odin to give me root, so I was left with my stock experience. Yesterday, mostly because of the constant nagging of the uninstallable OTA update that Verizon kept sending me, I flashed the Tweaked Gingerbread ROM to my phone, and it's working fine, except that it removed all of my Samsung apps for some strange reason (every other app, and its data was left intact).
The problem is I used the Samsung screen capture utility, the stocks widget, and the Samsung keyboard. I thought that even though they were removed, my foresight in backing up my ROM using CWM's built-in NANDroid backup would be beneficial. So I used Nandroid Browser to look up my apps that were missing. The first one I found was the screen shot service, so I opened that with the package manager, and it seemed to open just fine, and gave me this:
www(dot)thecdrive(do)com/images/shot_000002.png
So I clicked Install, and it then gave me this:
www(dot)thecdrive(dot)com/images/shot_000003.png
Why is installing these backed up apps failing? And also, why is there a green "success!" check mark next to the failure message? I thought it succeeded before I read the message, lol.
Nandroid backups are rather problematic for this device. You can get some of your apps back through Tweaktools.
And the stock screencap and keyboard SUCK.

Frankly that's your opinion. I can't find a better screen capture application, and the "Android Keyboard" and the other strange one that the ROM came with don't work correctly. That aside, is "Tweaktools" on my ROM or do I need to obtain it from somewhere?

My opinion...and everyone else's. ShootMe is a much better screencap alternative, and SwiftKey 3 is the best keyboard I've used, though some prefer others. Swype (the "other" keyboard that you say doesn't work but you probably don't know how to use it) is also pretty good for one handed typing.
Obviously you haven't read the OP in the Tweaked thread, otherwise you would know Tweaktools is easily accessible through Terminal. Or, you could download a stock ROM zip and pull out the apks you want from /system/app and put them in your own /system/app.

The popular opinion does not mean it's the right opinion for me... The "Other" keyboard is NOT Swype (That was also removed from my phone when the ROM was installed) it's called "Eyes-Free keyboard". Also, I very much know how to use Swype, my ex loved the stupid thing, and I hate it. I prefer a normal keyboard. I will look up SwiftKey. Does insulting someone's intelligence make you feel better about yourself?

No, it's just -slightly- annoying when people ask the same exact questions all the time, but REALLY annoying when you're helping someone who acts like they're entitled to other experienced user's assistance (read: have a stick up their ass).
I've never heard, seen, or used this "Eyes free" keyboard. Maybe it's something that comes stock, but I would never know since I spent about one day stock.

Excuse me? Entitled? Hardly. I asked a question of anyone on this forum, because I could not find a solution to the specific problem I was having. I asked why restoring .apk files from Nandroid backups was failing, and you replied by pushing YOUR OPINION in my face, as if using the Samsung keyboard was a crime. In absolutely NO WAY was I demanding or acting entitled to anything. I simply asked a question, and expected a reply that wasn't condemning my choice in software!
In short, I appreciate your suggestions (I really do, Tweaktools worked fine for everything but the keyboard) but I don't appreciate your Elitist attitude. Sure you know more about the inner workings of this telephone than I, but that gives you absolutely no right to talk down to people who are only trying to learn.
Edit: Also "Eyes-Free" came with the ROM not with my phone. My phone shipped with the Samsung Keyboard, and Swype. That's it. This ROM replaced the Samsung keyboard with the Android keyboard, and Swype with Eyes Free.

Question + Cool Hint

I finally got my computer working again, so I have some questions regarding rom cooking. Would I need permission to use ayOteddy's "Stock [email protected] Deo Rooted" as a base for my roms. And If I really wanna get into this, some recommendations for ideas even if I dont use them?
ALSO. Its well known that we do not really have a soft lanscape keyboard, no matter what keyboard used, right? Well that's wrong. Its been awhile since Ive used this keyboard, I used it on my old Optimus T actually, however, the keyboard known as "Hacker's Keyboard" has an option to always view the landscape keyboard even if a hardware keyboard input is present. Just thought you all would like to know that I figure my little discovery could be useful to you all ^_^ Welcome.
*** One more thing, does anyone know ways I can change the settings options and navigation + links? Like, the Theme Settings space for example?

I actually used KJ2 for TigerFusion without permission. I figured since ay0teddy retired long ago, he would not reply to my PM. I think as long as you give credit to him it should be fine.
I recommend using ASimmons Theme Injector if you want to port over a theme. Just remember that the Sidekick 4G uses hdpi. What I did for Froyo Iced Up was just change one letter in the apk.....the m in mdpi to h. If you don't do this, the result will be a brick. I had to use Odin to flash back to stock....lol.
And remember that the Bali kernel with keylogger removed will only work on KJ2. You can actually extract the zip and copy the contents from the kernel_flasher folder right into the update folder of your kitchen project.
Thanks for the keyboard app recommendation. I'll definitely try it out! Good luck with the rom cooking. :good:

Hats off to ayoteddy, sduvick, and krylon for the work they did. When all is said and done, those are really the people that pushed things forward and got the Sidekick 4g a couple useful 3rd party kernels.
As I recall, ayoteddy shared his stock deodexed rom so other people could have some fun cooking up their own custom. So, just credit him and move on. I don't think he'll be upset at all.
Make sure to also credit krylon and sduvick in anything you do. If you dig back into the forum, you'll see that they worked together.

That was way tricky. You need to add three pngs to the drawable-hdpi folder after you decompile the framework-res.apk.... reboot, reboot_ recovery and download. Then edit the strings.xml folder.... after that, it gets pretty hairy. I'll send you a pm with all the steps needed to configure the android.policy.jar file.
Oh, and thanks for the advice orange808!

Dude...I just thought of something. Why don't you make a custom Key Lime Pie theme? Just use the various images found on the net for inspiration....maybe you can make a kind of CM theme based on yellow and green...just a thought!
As for TouchWiz....ugh...I personally hate it. Why not go with Go Launcher? It is a bit on the hefty side but is very theme-able!

That is a great idea not gonna draw conclusions yet, but the whole green color seems to look nice on the SK. And I used to love Go Launcher, but it became so chock-ful of ads and weird buying with credits and just....it became a bit too much I think? I might poke around and try to find an older version of ADW and just break the market link so it doesnt upgrade to the new one. Which by the way, I wanted to suggest in case Holo Launcher starts to get old for you, it looks alot like the ICS update, spare the icons. But with a theme installed its gotta be the best ICS launcher I've seen yet IMO anyway.

Learning
Well, I tryed to set up the EPM for Sidekick from scratch. No go, it's different than a lot of other devices it seems. Could anyone direct me with this a little? Please? It would be awesome because I really want to learn some while building this.
I know I have a lot of questions, but believe me, I appreciate it more than you know and I love the community for all its provided help. I have one more:
Which file happens to be for the notification background? Have tried a few but see no differences :/
It is amazing how PDT and ayoteddy got all of this working. I tried editing the classes.dex file on my own, but it seems that the Sidekick 4G is a freak mutation of some sort.
I wound up taking a shortcut and used GenericGinger's android.policy.jar file. I edited the GlobalActions.smali file using Notepad ++ and added the reboot info from the public.xml located in the framework.
