Bought a second hand HTC Diamond that works real well. Just ordered an extended battery and a new back to cover the thickness of the new battery but the screen needs to go and be replaced.
Has a couple scratches (Isn't too bad) but there's one right near the forward facing camera that pisses me off because I always see it when I'm looking at the screen.
How hard would it be to replace the screen (By myself) and where would be the cheapest place to buy a new screen for it? I want a quality OEM (If possible) screen for it, not a cheap Chinese knock-off.
Check Ebay. There is a lot of lcd's and digitizers for Diamond.
Here is how to video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LrlBpgskwU
HTC's most hard devices to change digitizer are touch pro, diamond, hd and hd2.
they are sticked with lcd.

My new screen of lg really works well.
Normally , a full display will cost you at about 40-50E. At least this are the prices here.
I too have a stupid display , it has some little white dots under it that light up when the lcd lights up. Not a big problem , but does annoy me
Good day. Could anyone post a picture of the Sensation side by side with a Xperia Arc? This are the two phones that i consider purchasing. I would want to see how they compare physically. I know the dimensions but would just want to see them side by side. Thanks
I found this video online comparing those two and a few more, hope it helps:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srS03zyRwv4
Thanks alot for the link. By the way, i was just wondering why the HTC sensation has a darker screen compared to the others while the Xperia Arc has the brightest screen. For those that have both, could you share which has a brighter and more readable screen when using the internet?

This can be altered on all phones so why should brightness matter?
I am not familiar with both devices thats why i was wondering why the htc sensation had the dimmest screen and why the person who posted it in youtube didnt bother to adjust it before making the video. Hope that someone who have both devices could share their experience with both screens.

It's often been noted in reviews that the Sensation's screen degrades quickly as the viewing angle varies from straight on. When they set up a shot like that it's almost never straight on. Thus the screens with better viewing angles shine. I'm waiting until I can hold it to judge the screen for myself.
I also read that the xperia arc has problems with viewing angles, but on the video, it has a nicer screen than the sensation. I wonder why.
I only noticed my Sensation had it's screen on a fixed level after a week of use (while I was fiddling in the settings) so guessing most 'reviewers' don't bother to check either. It's made one hell of a difference in day to day.
On another note, I'm not overly fussed about viewing angles. If I wanted someone to see the screen I'd show them, not have them looking over my shoulder.

Would everyone post here whether their Sensation was made in China or Taiwan? There is a understanding going around here that the Sensations made in China use a better display, Sony, compared to the Taiwanese, Sharp. Please post your display observations/experience here, also input from people who have had both versions would be really helpful.
Starting with mines, its made in Taiwan. Coming from the HD2, I compared them side by side and the Sensation is NOTICABLY brigher and more vivid. Its also sharper, ofcourse due to the QHD resolution. However, on my phone, if I lay it flat on a table, the colors do seem washed out, its not the same as looking straight at it. Ofcourse, it is LCD. I am still on the fence if I should exchange it at Walmart, I still have 8 days to decide. But I have a feeling that most of these units are from Taiwan? Someone here had both, and according to him, his current Chinese unit is better than AMOLED in quality and also outside in sunlight.
Don't think we needed another thread, but Taiwan and no issues here.
It seems like people are getting too paranoid over this screen stuff.
The sensation uses a Super LCD display...it says right on the back of the box. Super LCD displays are made by Sony. If we are being given displays made by Sharp, that wouldn't be a super LCD display, right? If so, HTC would be lying to us.
Looks like all of them will say made in taiwan anyways

I received my sensation last week, but because the earpiece speaker saturated, i sent it back online for a replacement. The screen was very nice although viewing angles where bad.
Man I regret my decision. I received my new one today. The crap lousy sounding earpiece still saturates and distorts during call. but now I GOT A TOTALLY different screen, A NASTY one. viewing angles tint the whole display redish, but that i dont care, what I care is the god damn SCAN LINES effect. the lines between pixels are much thicker on that one, makes it look grainy, and the ghosting, I have never seen so much ghosting. Im pissed :/
Mine says made in china under battery. and box does not say SLCD (although its a french box)
Looks like most people having screen issues own the european sensation.
The original one i had was fine tho. I think Made in China will soon start to pop in US as well. we just got the phone much earlier than you that might be the reason.
Could be my imagination but it also seems more colorful. But i could be imagining that.
Mine is a sharp made in taiwan.
Doing the command dmesg I found Panel Type PANEL_ID_PYD_SHARP listed there.. BUT I do not see the same issue with this screen that was going on with the MT4G screen where the sharp screen would wash out more on an angle. Now I'd like to see it side by side with a Sony one to see if there is much of a difference or if they chose to use two manufacturers again
to check use terminal emulator and run the command dmesg it will output a bunch of stuff.. just look for the line <6>[ 9178.895111] Panel Type = PANEL_ID_PYD_??????
I think this is just a rumor that spilled over from the MT4G forums because it was in fact an issue there... I'm curious to know now. My screen looks pretty damn nice and it's sharp, wondering if they did make sony one's if they are in fact better or not... Time will tell I'm sure when someone has two side by side.

Sorry for off top, but did you find a solution to this? I have the same saturation issue on mine from Vodafone Germany.
Hi guys,
I've recently picked up a Sensation, and I can't help but notice how "odd" the screen looks in comparison to my Incredible S. I've read in reviews that it is a bit disappointing in terms of viewing angles and such, and that's true. It also looks as if there are faint scan lines running across it (like a monitor that has an incorrect refresh rate) and the gamma is less intense.
Is this just how the Sensation's screen is or does mine have some issue? I may simply be really used to the Incredible S display.
I'm loving the phone otherwise.
Thanks!
My screen suffers from yellowing at more than 30° or so, but no scan lines like you mentioned. I know there was a lot of discussion about the screen when they first came out and 2 or 3 different screens were used for the displays. I have a sharp screen on mine for reference.

I also have a " sharp" screen on mine. No lines at all. If it bothers much perhaps exchange it for one without lines. (i don't think they are supposed to be their anyway) as for contrast my daughter just got a s3 and our screen compared to the s3 screen is very poor in my opinion. Our colors seem washed out and light compared to her vivid bright screen . But I'm not really complaining I don't seem to notice unless I do a side by side comparison. If I were you I would take back the device for one without lines! Problem could worsen in the future and I know not every sensation has them. Mine doesn't . Best wishes to you .

I haven't used the Incredible S before, but a quick search reveals it has a 800x400 16M color S-LCD screen, the same tech in the Sensation's screen (except the higher resolution).
You're saying gamma is more intense than Incredible S, if this is the case then the Sensation may be calibrated with more vividly than the Incredible S. Does your Sensation screen have colours similar to AMOLED screens? How does the white balance look? I find my Sensation screen to be much more neutral than the typically over saturated AMOLED screens (which is how S-LCD should look like, factory default). White balance looks great too on my Sensation, pretty close to 6500K.
I've never seen scan lines on my Sensation, this is most likely the biggest clue you've given that your screen may have defects. Would be much more easier for everyone if you can post a picture of your actual Sensation screen on.
I've got an AUO screen myself. Is it possible my eyes are adjusting to it? I'll give a week and see how it goes.
It's a shame about the washed out colours, but it could be worse.

My mistake, I meant to say the gamma was less intense. It seems very washed out and less saturated than my Incredible S. The blacks and whites are better though.
My only problem with the screen is that the blacks aren't black enough. Well.. I suppose that's true to all colors.. as you guys said..they're a little bit washed out.
Beside that..no scan lines and the viewing angles never disappointed me.
The scan lines-not normal.
Being washed out, highly reflective, blacks that aren't black enough, maximum brightness that isn't very good for outdoor use, and the like-normal.

I had another Sensation with an AUO screen and found it sort of unpleasant to look at. I think it was something to do with the way the pixels were arranged, made the text look fuzzy. I also remember the screen having more of a pink/purple hue compared side by side with the Sharp screen, but I don't remember seeing any sort of scan lines.
If you just bought it from a retail outlet, I would see if you could get an exchange. If not, I guess its up to whether you want to deal with exchanging it with HTC (it should still be under their 2 year warranty), or deal with the screen as is.

Is the warranty two years? The little slip inside the box says 12 months, which would mean this phone is out of warranty by now. (I got it from someone who upgraded their phone)
I've taken a picture of the scanlines here.
Ignoring the vertical lines that both phones have at this zoom, you can see the Sensation has faint horizontal lines running across it while the Incredible S doesn't. Not sure if that's just how the display quality is on the Sensation.
Make sure you zoom into the full size image to see.
EDIT: Sorry for double posting, I didn't realize.
Last time I spoke with HTC customer service was to get a replacement mainboard for my wife's HTC Vision/G2. When I was on the phone I inquired about my HTC Sensation warranty, as I was surprised that the G2 was even under warranty still (G2 had a 15 month warranty I believe). If I recall correctly the warranty period they told me was for two years. I was thrilled to hear it, as I was under the assumption pretty much all phone warranties were for 1 year. Give HTC a call and see what their terms are, you may be pleasantly surprised.
Also, I have some pics that I took a while back that have the Sharp screen side by side with the AUO screen, but I haven't yet located them. When/If I do, I will post them for your reference.
Edit: I am using the T-Mobile HTC Sensation 4G, not sure if this has an influence on the warranty terms, but it could (different SKU compared to European version).
I currently got the HTC Desire HD and kinda love it. But it starts to get too slow, battery gets worse and so I thought about getting a new phone.
The HTC One S looks nice, perfect size, good performance, good camera and due to the AMOLED it looks like the battery last long enough as well.
But how does the AMOLED display quality look like compared to e.g. my Desire HD ? How abour reading from the display at sunny days?
Thanks
Get it you won't be sorry. Screen is a thing of beauty.

Ye I would get the S4. I am just curios about the AMOLED quality compared to other phones. Besides that it should be perfect for me
TBH I love my AMOLED. Colors are nice and sharp and its barely pixelated.

The display is great and one thing, which definitely deserves more praise rather than just being slated by a number of people and review sites. Sure the screen isn't as good in terms of sharpness and screen real estate compared to the GS 3, one X, GN and SE phones due to the 720P res. but the colours of it are superb and IMO better than the GN (too dull), GS 2 (too over saturated), SE phones (personally not really keen on their displays when it comes to the colours) and also the GS 3 screen, but the best thing about the one S screen is just how good it performs when in sunlight (as in sun shining right on the screen), I can see stuff (even on black backgrounds) without even having to squint my eyes (and that isn't even with 100% brightness, only like 70% brightness selected) where as with the GS 2 etc. I always have to cover it slightly with my hand in order to make a text or website etc. out. And with my S, there is no yellow/blue tints at all, no matter what brightness I put the mobile to, whites are extremely bright white (better than my dell U2311H), this will vary from unit to unit though.
IMO the desire HD has one of the worst displays ever, colours are extremely washed out, viewing angles are non existent, and it isn't that sharp either.
I do notice the pentile matrix, however, I only notice it when I have my face right up to the screen or am really concentrating on trying to spot the effects of it. The most noticeable areas I notice it are on the notification icons and white/grey text on black backgrounds.
From one of the best sites when it comes to hardware stuff and so knows what they are talking about:
I’ve griped about PenTile RGBG before on this panel and other SAMOLED displays, but I find the One S to be completely enjoyable in spite of having it thanks to two things. First, how well HTC has controlled the panel (no awful hues, weird white points, or dramatic shifts as you change brightness) - this is basically the best I’ve seen this particular panel, and until SGS3, the best I’ve seen AMOLED in general. Second, because HTC doesn’t appear to be applying any processing that applies sharpening (like Samsung’s mDNIe) to text.
How you feel about PenTile really is the final factor: it’s there, but I’ve slowly become accustomed to it after staring at it for so long. If you go back to the Nexus S days, I was one of the most outspoken critics because of how large those subpixels were. With small enough subpixels (below visual acuity), PenTile starts to make sense. In other news, HTC moving back to Samsung AMOLED for phones is an interesting move after supply issues forced HTC to SLCD with some earlier phones, here on the HTC One S however, it looks great.

Although as always, you should check out for yourself first to see what you think.
Imo, I would get the OneS if I were you.
I also came from the DHD, an moved forward after the no update fiasco.
I am on pre-pay and did not want to sign a contract again, actually ever but that's another issue, so I shopped around for the OneS on sell in different places. I could not swing full retail so I looked for NIB phones that are turned over fast.
Well long story short is, I looked and looked for a slightly used phone and never scored one sadly, I would up grabbing a OneX NIB for under 400 and couldn't say no to that price.
However I still like an want a OneS, nice form factor coming from the DHD and really is a sharp looking phone.
Would I suggest one to my friends, in a heartbeat.
Get yourself a OneS an rock on.

Same here. One X is so awesome big Take One S S4 - great phone. But remember using a case when you order the black version, cause after some time the color in the edges turns silver...
