Just took home my Captivate for $275 from a corporate AT&T Wireless store. Only requirement to get EARLY activation pricing is that you haven't upgraded your line within 6 months. NO ONE said anything about this anywhere until today - have been in 4 different corp AT&T stores, and finally someone said "early upgrade = new activation + $75 = $275 for the Captivate." Deal is good UNTIL Saturday, 7/24, when the pricing goes back up to $350 (Samsung is offering $150 back-end rebate currently) + 75 for early activation.
Get it while you can! Better than AT&T's no-commitment price of $499 and even their phantom $350 pricing they said on Facebook and Twitter, but won't honor after some lucky folks got them early last week!!! Been struggling with this mess for 2 days now, just trying to get it and finally found out about this, so make sure you all aren't buying them at no-commitment pricing, that's just outrageous....
This is the first I've heard that the $200 2yr contract renewal price is temporary. I'm eligible for an updgrade next week! grr...
Where'd you see that mentioned?

Maybe AT&T noticed demand for this phone and said.. Hmmm..how do we make more money on it?
I was surprised to see 10 people lined up Sunday morning to get this phone when the store opened.

Has anyone confirmed this?
Just got off the phone with a CSR, he didn't know anything about this being a short term deal. He spent about 5 minutes looking it up, so I hope he wasn't just saying that to get me off of the phone.
Oh, and how long have they been ending their calls by saying "Thanks for being the best part of AT&T" or something like that? That's ridiculously cheesy.

I just walked into an AT&T store and was able to use the early upgrade and get the phone for the 199+75 +18 (296 with everything totaled up). You have to not have had a upgrade within the last 6 months. That's it... and be in good standing ofcourse.
I got my Captivate on Sunday for $275. I did an early upgrade this past December for a BB 9700, so I was eligible for the early upgrade (I didn't know I was at the time). I was hoping to purchase for the "$350" non-contract price last week, but the rep @ the store last Thursday said I would qualify for the early upgrade, but they weren't going to sell it to me until the 18th. $275 was cheaper than $350 just to add 7 month to my contract, so I had planned to go that way. Luckily I was since the phone went to $499. So yes, it is true.
Contract
Do you go under another 2 year contract for this price?
AT&T Customer Service can push your upgrade date forward 30 Days, easy. Just give the customer service line a call and talk to a representative.

I called CSR early this morning and was able to order it as early upgrade...199.99 + tax and delivery...i think it came out to $260-something total...i wasn't eligible for upgrade till march of 2011

I'd try again, seems like it just depends on who you get. I'm trying to get my upgrade pushed forward 3 months (it will be a year since I got my Tilt 2 in October), so far I've had one CSR tell me to just walk into a store and use the upgrade off of one of my family plan's other lines, the other told me she could only make it that much earlier if I increased my plan, but that isn't going to happen lol.

I also got my Tilt 2 at the same time. Your best bet is to call CSR...just call back again and hope to get a different person if they tell you no the first time. It's a matter of getting the right person. The guy I talked to this early morning told me that it's best to call after midnight since you get the seasoned employees but you have to be premiere...if you call during the day most likely youll get a trainee

I stand corrected. I called back and specifically mentioned overriding the upgrade date, and the CSR said that I could do that. However, they would only do it if they could ship it to me, not so I could buy it in the store, and if they had any in stock.
They don't.
She put me on hold saying that she's trying to arrange something with the store closest to me... So, maybe this will work...

Weird, the first girl I got was all ready to set it to today until she read the 10 month part and told me she couldn't, she didn't seem to care where I used the upgrade at. Makes me wonder if the CSR wants the sale.

Possibly, she supposedly couldn't get in touch with the local store and asked if they could call back in 2 days when they might have stock to ship to me. Maybe I should call again.
Nah, I'm tired of messing with this today. Thanks for letting me know about moving the upgrade date.
No, problem ingrown.
Sorry for sorta hijacking the thread though. I'm thinking I may try to get this with the early upgrade fee myself.
Has anyone confirmed the price going up to $350 for an upgrade after 7/24?
Just so everyone knows, the loyalty advantage applies to this phone. I got an additional 100 off because I hadn't upgraded in 24 months (iPhone) and my bill is
greater than 100
No upgrade fee either
Nifty phone for 100!

I ordered my phone with Best Buy with a Tmobile 2 yr contract(in Texas). It seems like nether company knows what the other company is doing. Best Buy told me I have 30 days to return the phone. Tmobile told me that I have 20 days before I get locked into my contract. I asked Tmobile since I don't have my phone yet has the 20 day period started, and they said yes! Ugh!!
The day you ordered the phone was the first day the contract started, even though you don't have the phone. Best buy is correct and does have a 30 day return period on the PHONE, not the contract. T-Mobile's trial period if you order a phone online is 20 days. So if you are not satisfied with the phone/service, then I would recommend that you return the phone within those 20 days so that you can cancel the service
Ok, thanks for confirming. Wasn't sure if it was supposed to be like that.
I bought the nexus s the day it came out on 2yr contract at best buy mobile in Dallas. I had 14 days to decide if I wanted to return it or not for a refund on both the phone and the contract.

I'd call call Tmo CS, (talked to 3 different CS reps), and they all told me that Tmo will honor BB's return policy, since you cannot buy the phone from Tmo.
Also, I had them make a note in my account, so that if I would have needed to return the phone on day 29 (for example), that my contract would also be voided.
I didn't end up needing this, as I liked the phone enough to keep it (bought 12/17/10), but it was nice to know that I had the extra time to try out the phone, just in case.

Wow thats awesome they did that for you...Time and Time again T-Mobile proves they are the best carrier in terms of customer service.
I just got my Captivate from AT&T in December, and I am pretty much unsatisfied with it. I was wondering if any of you here got an early upgrade to an Inspire 4G for just the $99 and $18 activation? No early upgrade fee's? Thank you!
I did. I complained and they gave me a full early upgrade and waived the activation fee. Not only that but they had a $50 off deal going on so I walked out with mine paying $53
Over the phone or AT&T store?
I complained and they said they set up the upgrade for me, I went to the store on release day and it was a clusterfarq. So a few hours later I had my phone. Then a customer service rep called me from corpo and I complained again and got a $20 credit on my account
Good luck
I went to the AT&T Store, and the guys there were very unhelpful. They just turned me down saying "we can't do anything about it."
What exactly did you say?
I received an early upgrade but I was exactly 22 days away from my official upgrade date, which was March 8. I contacted customer service on the phone and threatened them with Big Red and HTC Thunderbolt ( Verizon ) because I have 4 lines and all on recently renewed contract and they put in "special instructions" into the system for when I went to an AT&T Store.
The employee checked and I was eligible . HTC Inspire was mine for 105$

But you were 22 days away. I am 2 years away, just got the captivate recently.
I was wondering if it's possible to early upgrade now like I read some people did.
I got upgraded for no fee today. I don't know if it helped that I knew the assistant manager. Just a coincidence I went to high school with the guy. Such a big difference in this phone compared to my Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. It is worth the try to get an early upgrade!

Can he help me?? AT&T screwed me. They said the cheapest I can get it is $470 early upgrade, and he would take $200 from the bill. Still very high... I am pissed off. I threatened to change to Verizon, but nothing. Even higher level support didn't have the "authority" to change the prices for loyal customers for the past 7 or so years. SMH.

How would it be $470? The non-commitment pricing of this phone is 399.99 the most you would pay even in California where the tax is applied to the full retail value of the phone would be $435.
Sell the Captivate. Get $200 for it. Then buy the phone for the early upgrade price of $299.99. Still only pay $99 for it.

No offence but you kept it past it's 30 day return policy. It's not AT&T's fault that you suddenly want a new phone a few months later. If you really want it, dish out the $399. That's not too bad.
It's like buying a new car and a few months later deciding on you wanted a Honda instead of a Ford.
We all make choices in life. You made one....now live with it.
Att can not do upgrades over the phone if you are not within 4 months of upgrading. You can't do it in store unless you are so many days from upgrading. Nothing they can do about it.

I talked with AT&T about this as well. I got my refurbed Captivate in October. To qualify for for the exception upgrade, you need to wait 6 months. For me that is April around my birthday. They told me the cost to get the phone them would be whatever the 2 year contract price is for the phone plus $100.00. I have had this confirmed multiple times. I am hoping with the Atrix coming out and other potential offering with FFC and dual processors, that the two year price for the Captivate will plummet and I can get it cheaper as those other things do not matter to me.

Actually that is incorrect. Early upgrade on a Data device is 2 yr pricing plus $200.
Non smart phones it's 2 yr pricing plus $75.
I am sorry they gave your wrong information.
So basically you guys are saying I'm screwed. Yeah, was afraid of that. Hope someone wants to trade an Inspire for my Captivate. Maybe convince someone who isn't a techy at school. Haha.
Wow, sooooo many diff experiences. I purchased my Captivate and renewed my contract in August. I went to the At&t store on launch day perpared to pay $399 for it as we have a Corp. account. The rep told me if he would give me an early upgrade by starting my contract from that day. By doing this I was able to get it for $299 which was fine by me. 6 months for a $100 sounded like a deal to me. He said I would be eligible for upgrade again in 20 months and kept my unlimited data. Honestly, one of better experiences I had with them in the past 7 years.
I still think you should sell the cap on the market here for about $200(or more) take the $200 off and end up paying $70~ out of pocket... In my opinion the inspire is well worth it.

They sell on eBay for around $300. Maybe I should try there...
Just thought I'd pop in here and share my experience with switching from the Captivate to the Inspire.
I have only been an AT&T customer since August 2010. I have a couple of calls to ATT Customer service in my record where they documented my unhappiness with the GPS and lack of Froyo updates. When @samsungjohn came to the Captivate portal and stirred the pot with Samsung's PR stunt I had finally had enough I called 611 again and was polite, and nicely explained to the CSR my complaints with the Captivate. I asked if there was ANYTHING that they could do to move me into another phone, I never mentioned wanting to cancel my account or raised my voice in any way. The CSR told me that he understood my frustration and he had heard similar complaints before.
He was able to put a $150 dollar credit on my account and I was able to sell my Captivate for $200 so I walked out of a Corporate AT&T store with my Inspire at a net cost of $50 to me.
Maybe I got lucky, or maybe AT&T is hearing from a LOT of people like me and is losing customers, I don't know.
Just thought I'd share.

And maybe the highlighted part was the real reason. At any rate, congrats on the early upgrade. I'm lovin this device more and more.
I recently bought an Inspire 4g 5 days ago from Wireless advocates (Costco) for $50. The price today shows $30. Do they give me price adjustment if I call them? I already tried calling them, but they are not available on the weekends. So, I have to wait till Monday morning to call them about it.
Did anyone have any experience with costco regarding price guarantee? Please advise me what to do. It is always good to get money back, aint it?
You must have bought it a really long time ago, in Feb or so.

I work at WA/Costco. haha. You get 30 days from the date of the initial purchase for price adjustments.
If not, exchange it and ask them to change the IRC (instant rebate) to whatever the current price is.

I went to 1 T-Mobile store in my area and they said they "had two and just sold the last one".
Then he called 10 of the closest stores - TEN - and they all said they didn't have it. Has anyone else run into this? Any idea what's going on?
Mike
Probably like the v10. Release day I had to go to 3 stores. Called the third store from the second and he had one left and held it for me while I drove 20 minutes to get it.
The stores only got 2 or 3 each. I was afraid they were going to do it again this year. Sounds like at least in your area they have.
I had a bad feeling about it when they finally got the demo unit and just stuck it on the wall. Just up there with the stlylo and other lame phones. No special signage.
Why lg? And why t-mobile? This is an awesome high end flagship device! Why do they treat it like some ghetto prepaid low end cheap phone?
I pre-ordered mine on Tuesday and thankfully received it yesterday. (Thursday) I was going to wait to get it in store but was afraid to risk it.
I hope you can find one soon.
The store I went to had 5 in Stock when I went in, one other person was buying one and multiple people called about it. My first one was defective so I had to exchange and got their last one.
I heard one rep saying that they deliberately send them a low number, something about driving up pre orders. I also assume a lot of the note 7 guys are probably picking this up as it is the best replacement to the note.
I got the only one the store has. And the other local store also only got one in today.
Didn't want to risk this fiasco like with the V10, so I smartened up and pre-ordered mine on the 17th...received on the 20th and have been enjoying it since.
Sorry to hear that T-Mobile's out of stock. It's the first day of release and I'm sure they will get more in quite soon.

I pre-ordered on the 18th and my expected shipping date was December. I cancelled my order and piked one up in person instead.

there is no way you that if you pre-ordered the 2nd day pre-orders were open that you would have gotten your phone in december. there was a glitch in t-mobiles system showing incorrect shipping dates. you probably would have gotten it before the actual release date like everyone else who pre-ordered. you wouldn't get a pre-order 2 months after they were available in the stores.

Coming from a banned Note 7 that I still use everyday, I waited for the release of the V20. Easy to do because Tmo didn't have any S7Es a week ago or so either. I really need to do an exchange because my Tmo bill is terribly jacked up from the Note7 experiment. Needless to say there was absolutely no stock anywhere to be found at the 7 stores between work and home Friday.
HOlly mollies! I have been calling to the 25 stores that are found within 20 miles from my house and none of them have it until finally i found one store that told me there would be 1 unit arriving tomorrow and i told him SAVE IT FOR ME! I only have 4 days left to replace it without any fees charged

I pre ordered mine on the 18th and it's on back order. Expected ship date as of now is 11/21 - 12/12. I can't even cancel the order if I happen to find one in the store because the $200 I'm getting for my note 3 was only for pre orders. If it doesn't ship soon I think I'm just gonna cancel my order and wait a few months to pick one up for $300 on Craigslist.
Wow
Given that lots are seitching their note 7 to comething else this is the only thing comparable
I got lucky. Walked into tmobile. They didn't have any in stock. Had them call another store that was 30 mins. away. They had one and the T mobile lady went and got it for me. I call that top notch service. Maybe because I was switching from Sprint, I don't know.
2 stores by me where out of stock today. I called tmo and ordered one, it will be here in up to a week. Cool thing was I could complete the trade in evaluation over the phone. I read the imei # to her and she processed it. I have 30 days to send in my g5 after I get the v20. I also will get a label to mail in the cheap Alcatel I bought for the $200 promo
